    Was I the only one praying that Bill would NOT demonstrate his zipper extension lanyard any further???? Excellent, thorough review as usual bill, and very generous giveaways. Seems Multipick is great at taking consumer feedback, and producing what the folks want, while Sparrows is great at coming up with innovative items we didn't know we wanted, until we saw them! Happy Thanksgiving Bill, and the LockLab Tribe!

    That nub on the sandman pick seems to be an indicator from what I can tell. When the tip of the pick is on the 5th pin it is just touches the lock body. 🤷‍♂️

    My guess on the tab on 1 side of the sandman is so you know you have the single hump up when in the lock vs. the 2 hump side since it's reversible.

    Not all of Europe have the pins down. No idea how common but at least in Sweden (and I assume the other Nordic countries) pins are up. My guess is that it depends on the climate, freezing water and pins down doesn't seem like a good combo to me.

    Zipper pull: I think it's a dog whistle. I mean not a literal one, but I have one of their patches on my work bag (office day job), every once in a while someone "in the know" notices it and I get to have a nice conversation about locksporting.

  • @soerenwizard

    I purchased the kit in 2016. I missed top of keyway tensioners and a bogota. Today, I'd just buy a bogota with the kit, and get a perfect set of picks.

    If that loop is slightly elastic, it wraps around a small bundle of objects, then the disk passes through the loop like a button/toggle to secure it.

    7:33 Bill, I might be a retired one of those "builders, that has no clue about lock "mithing", but I do know this, 99% of all residential exterior doors that I've installed swing inward. When an exterior door which swings inward is closed it's edge is tight against the door stop or door molding and there is no way ( from the exterior) to use your "shove-it tool" or a plain old knife blade to walk the live bolt over (even if the by-pass pin is not depressed), making this tool useless except possibly on commercial doors that occupancy codes require the door to swing outward.

    The sand man has that dimple to use as a lever point in gm auto locks. The sand man can be very versatile but the gm locks are a pain without that lever point.

  • @uncle_thulhu

      If you are going ninja-level stealth, you may not have pockets big enough to hold the kit. Maybe it also has a loop, and the logo dot can go through a button hole to hang it inside you outfit. A little nutty, perhaps, but maybe a bit creative too.

    • @mikevandebunt811
      @mikevandebunt811 Před 5 lety

      I agree. I'm pretty sure it's included to be used on the Jim tool. But Bill IS correct that it is a zipper pull. It's the same as the one that is part of their small zippered case.

    On the Sandman, the little nubby serves to let you know when the tip of the pick is on the back pin. You can sort of use it as a depth stop. I'm not sure that it'd be terribly useful for an old pro but it is pretty helpful for us newbs.
    Frankly I didn't really like the Sandman much (got one in my Vorax) until I tried it on a wafer lock...yeah, I'm sold now.

    I wish I'd bought the Dark Shift instead of the Tuxedo but the Dark Shift isn't listed on the Sparrows website with the other pick sets. Over a year later, it's still hidden in the New Stuff corner of their website. List all of the pick kits on the same page, Sparrows

  • @bc7495

    The quick strike is the exact pick design I made myself when I first started picking and is my go to pick for almost every lock you encounter in Canada I love it I am surprised that's new I just randomly made it from a wide bobby pin or street sweeper bristle now I use better metal but same design I use a fairly fat round chainsaw file and make em by hand pick sets don't even compare to hand made bespoke for self picks

  • @PaulSteMarie
    @PaulSteMarie Před 5 lety

    You're putting that plate on the wrong side. It attaches on the *door*, not the jamb. It's just a decorative cover to hide the mounting ears for the bolt. It's a separate piece because there's an option of using one with square corners for a installation with a chiseled recess or with round corners for when the recess is cut with a router.
    The strike plate that goes on the jamb has a bent overhanging flange to protect the jamb from the end of the bolt and to guide it over the corner.

  • @CorkKNIFE

    Some of these smaller kits like keychain type, cannot help but wonder ppl with bad intensions using them. Maybe not at houses but for cars like that ford one or whatever they can think off. Granted they can do that with large set aswell, as with everything, but i would think the smaller items they can hide better? Just a thought, as with everything made with good intensions there are people that want to misuse it i guess. Sorry for the rant! Btw love your videos!
