  • In this video we take a look at the Uro Fiber 50:50 pad from Buff & Shine. This blended cutting and polishing microfibre pad promises to cut, polish and finish in one step! But will this be the case?
    For most corrections our go to combination is the Rupes Fine yellow polishing pad paired with Sonax Perfect Finish, so how will the Uro Fiber pad compare to this?

    I've watched quite a few videos in the last several days, and finally realizing that for me, a guy who's going to do this once or twice a year, the Sonax Perfect Finish coupled with the Buff & Shine Uro Fiber 50-50 pad will be the perfect solution especially when trying to keep this a bit simple. Let the pros deal with all the variables to get that last extra bit of shine. I'll get 80-90% of the way there with much less aggravation. Thanks for the great video!

      rand49er - That’s a wise choice! Taking this approach will save you lots of time and effort, and will still yield very good results. Here’s some advice ... for a 1 step correction - even though the Uro Fiber 50:50 pad is very good - we would use a Rupes Yellow pad instead. Team this with either Sonax Perfect Finish, or Meguiars D300. Thank you for your kind comment. Wishing you a happy 2021 👍🏽💯👊🏽

    3d one and the uro fiber 50 50 is very popular in the US. 3d one cuts like 3d hd cut plus compound and finishes down like perfect finish.

Our opinion is that these media channels require time for people to stumble across the content and hopefully subscribe if they feel the content is valid ... it would help us if you recommend our channel on other detailing channels you may view/subscribe to. @Teleman01 - Thanks for watching. You should clean your pad after every set of passes. The method of cleaning depends on your polish. If it dusts a lot then use a brush or air to blow away the dust. If it doesn’t dust much then we use a brush and also a microfibre to wipe away residue. Hope this helps. • @VProjectUKDetailing
      @VProjectUKDetailing  Před 2 lety +2

      Vince Khaw - Great question. Firstly, (and we are not trying to boost viewing numbers here 😂), we would highly recommend watching our ‘Pads - Do you know where to start’ video if you haven’t seen it already! This video goes into various pad choice in greater depth. Once you watch that video you will better understand why we would recommend the Meguiars MF pad as a better choice for achieving better 1st stage compounding results. To answer the second part of your question you would need 1 x pad for each large panel, and 1 x pad for 2 smaller panels - therefore you would need numerous amounts of pads depending on the vehicle you will be working on! Also - let’s say you need 10 x pads for your vehicle - you would require 10 x pads of each size your vehicle may require e.g. 10 x 5” pads, 10 x 3” pads, 10 x 1” pads etc - not cheap! 🥺. That is of course assuming you want professional results! Hope this helps! If you’ve not checked out the rest of the channel please do - and please make sure you subscribe! Thanks 👍🏽🙏🏽🚗

    • @VProjectUKDetailing
      @VProjectUKDetailing  Před 4 lety

      Hi Ed Burness - Thanks for your kind comments! In our experience of using the Uro Fiber pad it would sit somewhere in between a polishing pad and a cutting pad such as a Rupes wool pad - so if you’re after a pad to cut the wool pad would give you better cutting. Buff & Shine have designed this pad to do all three steps of a correction i.e. it will cut with a compound, polish with a polish, and finish with a finishing polish but we find other dedicated pads perform better for each of these individual stages - check out our “Pads! Do you know where to start?” video if you’ve not already done so! It performs brilliantly as a one step pad (even though it was not strictly meant for this purpose) using Sonax Perfect Finish on medium & hard lacquer! Hope this helps! @VProjectUKDetailing  Před 3 lety +1

      Snookerloopy - You need to measure paint thicknesses, then do a test section and assess the results! We use a Rupes Yellow Fine Pad paired with Sonax Perfect Finish for this purpose. If you get hazing/are creating scratches as you go chances are you have soft lacquer. If you get good correction and good gloss then chances are you have medium lacquer. If you get some correction but not much then chances are you have hard lacquer. The you can adjust the pad/compound/polish choice and determine if in general a 1-stage or 2-stage correction is required to attain the results you are trying to achieve! Hope this helps … thanks for watching and if you not subscribed on Instagram & CZcams please make sure you do! Thanks 👍🏽🙏🏽🚗

    • @VProjectUKDetailing
      @VProjectUKDetailing  Před 2 lety +2

      Brad - Firstly thanks for watching! It’s a great question! The trick in detailing is to know the best combinations and the best products to use to achieve the desired results being as least aggressive as possible in the process! This usually comes from experience! Fords tend to have intermediate paint! If you want to try to get the best 1 step results we would recommend using Meguiars D300 paired with a Rupes Yellow Fine Pad. Try a test section first (obviously once you’ve fully decontaminated & measured paint thicknesses), and see how you get on! What we can tell you is that this is the first combination we reach for when trying to achieve a 1-step result! Hope this helps! Let us know how you get on! I have both d300 and sonax perfect finish with megs microfiber cutting pads and white lake country pads. Are these 2 similar? I know d300 is named a compound but I seem to get good results with their microfiber cutting pads as a single step and was wondering if is necessary to go over with sonax PF with either a white lake country or yellow rupes pad. What would be the better 1 step out of sonax PF and d300 and with what pad? Thank you.

      @VProjectUKDetailing  Před 2 lety +2

      Din Mulaosmanovic - Thanks for watching. You will great finishing using D300 with the Megs MF pads, and as you say even though D300 is designed to be a heavy cutting compound it works great as a 1 step when paired with the right pad. If we used the D300/MF combo we would finish it down with Menzerna 3800, however depending on what level of finish you are trying to achieve we find the best one step use for D300 is with a Rupes Yellow Fine Pad. We actually find it is a better one step on harder paints than Sonax PF. Hope this helps. Carlos Rivera - Thank You for your kind comments! If you’ve not seen it already check out our “Pads! Do YOU know where to start!” Video. We find the Orange pad is comparable to the Rupes Green Medium Polishing Pad! The Rupes Yellow Fine Pad is the main pad we use at V-Project UK for most corrections. This paired with Sonax Perfect Finish gives us excellent results. If we needed to use a pad to give us slightly more cut we would use the Uro Fiber Pad, and if we needed even more cut we would use the Meguiars MF Cutting pad. In essence we find we don’t need a medium grade polishing pad! Hope this helps 👍🏽

    Is there a 'detailers' registry or anything where you can quickly check the paint/clear coat hardness etc by looking for model/year? Im tidying up a MK5 Ford fiesta [ circa 2004], any idea what its paint is classed as?

    • @VProjectUKDetailing
      @VProjectUKDetailing  Před 3 lety +1

      God Is In The Details - Excellent question! I’m sure you could find many paint hardness guides if you looked but the simple answer is do not use these as a definitive guide! Use them as a rough guide. From experience Ford vehicles tend to have intermediate paint hardness which is to say they are medium hardness. However, manufacturers can change lacquer suppliers due to supply and demand so the hardness could vary! 😩. The only way to be for sure, and as a golden rule, always do a test section first prior to attempting to machine polish the whole vehicle. Another factor to also consider is that the whole vehicle may not have been sprayed with lacquer from the same batch (rare but possible) e.g. doors could have been sprayed separately - therefore could be varying hardnesses - so you should continually monitor your results as you go to ensure the results are consistent. Hope this helps 😁 ... we anticipate releasing a video on this subject soon so make sure you’ve subscribed, and press the bell alert button to get notified when it’s released 👍🏽😎💯

That aside the extra physical work is offset by the results, made light work of a lot of scratches in about 4 passes the other pad couldn't even touch at 8. for a total noob I'm very impressed as I can see me doing whole car and getting 85% improvement at least.

    • @VProjectUKDetailing
      @VProjectUKDetailing  Před 3 lety +3

      goldenbear31 - Thank you for your kind words! Soft clear coats can be very hard to refine. To get better scratch/defect removal you can still use the Uro Fiber 50:50 pad but you will then need to do a 2 stage correction to remove the hazing caused by the Uro Fiber pad. The other option is to do a 1 stage correction using the Rupes BigFoot Yellow Fine Pad to get most of the fine/medium defects out and improve the condition of the paint vastly.
      2 Stage Correction - try the Uro Fiber 50:50 pad teamed up with Meguiars Detailer D300 compound followed by Rupes BigFoot White SuperFine pad teamed up with either Sonax Perfect Finish, PolishAngel Esclate or AngelWax Perfect Polish (these get finer as listed).
      1 Stage correction - try the Rupes BigFoot Yellow fine pad teamed up with either the Meguiars Detailer D300 compound (works very well as a 1 step), Sonax Perfect Finish, or Menzerna Super Finish 3500. Do a test section on each vehicle (as they will vary) to see what gives you the best results. One may respond to a 1 stage or 2 stage and/or various pad/polish combinations better than the other vehicle. Also keep a close eye on lacquer removal .. as the clear coats are soft you may be surprised at just how quickly soft lacquer can be removed. Not trying to get viewing numbers up here (LOL) but check out one of our other videos “Watch this to avoid a costly mistake” for more info. Hope this helps ... 👍🏽🤭🚗

      I tend to stay away from finishing with fiber based pads in general. The fibers are a form or abrasive in and of themselves. Some paints won't be bothered by that, but softer finishes can be very sensitive to this.
      If you're looking for a very good 1 step solution, I'd go with Menzerna MC2500 on yellow Buff and Shine Uro-Tec foam pads (near identical foam to the Rupes yellow).
      You could also pick up the Buff and Shine Uro-Fiber microfiber pad for more intense defect removal - even using the same polish.
      I'd avoid 3D One in this situation because it doesn't always finish out on every paint. I have in the shop right now a vehicle with fussy black paint, and even soft foam finishing pads are not getting a mar free finish from 3D One. It happens sometimes. 3D AAT502, 3D ACA520 (incredible polish) will finish out perfectly, but they won't cut like 3D ONE.
      Menzerna medium and fine polishes tend to finish out more consistently over a wide variety of paint systems.
      My "go-to" set of polishes are Menzerna HC400 green line Heavy Cut, MC2500 medium polish, SF3500 fine polish. With the Uro-Fiber microfiber, and Uro-Tec yellow polishing pads. They cover anything I encounter. I do keep Uro-Wool, and the Uro-Tec blue coarse, and maroon medium cut pads in stock for oxidized finishes, and for whenever I use 3D AAT501 compound, because It just doesn't work well for me when using microfiber pads.

No major swirls but some very light marks you can see. Would you suggest i use a white foam pad instead of yellow with the Perfect Finish? To get some small correction and finish down perfect keeping the glossy-ness.

    • @VProjectUKDetailing
      @VProjectUKDetailing  Před 2 lety +2

      John Boy - Firstly thanks for watching! It’s a great question! The trick with detailing is to achieve the desired results being as least aggressive as possible! Perfect Finish does well with both White & Yellow pads! Renaults tend to have intermediate paint - so our advice is try a small test section with the white pad first! If you get the desired results/perfection you are looking for then happy days! If you find you don’t get the correction you are looking for them step up to the Yellow pad! As it’s most likely intermediate paint you MAY find that you will need a finishing/jeweling polish to get that final shine! Make sure you measure your paint depths first prior to doing any machine polishing to ensure you have enough clearcoat to play with! Hope this helps! I bought Sonex Perfect Finish as iv seen on many videos thats all i will need to finish it as its a final stage regardless is this right? The only other polish i have is meguiars ultimate polish. I also got 3d one but thats not a finishing polish. Is any paint depth gauge fine? and is there a video on what is considered alot of laquar and what is a little?
      So lets say i go in with my white pad and it corrects just fine. If the gloss is somehow not enough what do i do or should it finish down? Its just you said i "MAY find that you will need a finishing/jeweling polish to get that final shine! ". Thats got me worried i may not have all the products to finish the job. Thats why i was thinking white pad with Sonex Perfect Finish as its not that aggressive. Im just hoping it can keep my current shine, or get more if thats possible. Its super glossy already. So there is a chance ill need another polish after PF? When you say intermediate paint would that mean like a medium hardness clear? between soft and hard?

Regarding paint thicknesses check out our ‘paint depth gauge’ video and our ‘detailing responsibly’ video. You have most of the equipment/pads to jewel if you find it’s necessary. Ill check them videos shortly thank you. So like i said the paint is already really glossy there is just a few marks here and there. Its not far off showroom finish. So i can go over with perfect finish with my white pad and step up to yellow if need be?

But im looking for that really shiny gloss like you say that final pro finish. Can that final pro finish be achieved with perfect finish or should i get buying this Menzerna 3800??? I guess what im asking is... if it was to be one step only. Would you personally pull out the Sonex PF with white pad or Menzerna 3800 with white pad for very minor correction (as thats all it needs) but super glossy finish. Thank you once again mate!

    • @VProjectUKDetailing
      @VProjectUKDetailing  Před 2 lety +1

      John Boy - To achieve what you want we would pull out the Sonax PF & white pad stepping up to yellow depending on how much correction we achieved with the white pad. Try this combo first and see if you are happy with the results. It will be very glossy as PF finishes down extremely well. 3800 is too mild to fully correct but is a killer jeweling polish. You will be happy with the results PF gives you - but if you finished it down with 3800 you would see a difference for that pro finish - Hope this makes sense & helps 👍🏽🙏🏽🚗

      @@VProjectUKDetailing Thanks for your rapid reply! I noticed on your one video I watched on the Uro Fiber Pad video you did use a different pad also during the video. Haven’t ever considered using Rupes Pads. You asked if I knew where to start. Guess I should “start” by looking through your videos! I’ll look through your videos to see if the Rupes White UltraFine pad is demonstrated. Sounds like I should use! I’ve already “Subscribed”! Again, thanks for you reply and recommendation! 👍🙏

    Would the Uro fibre be ok with aio polishes on soft lacquer?

    • @VProjectUKDetailing
      @VProjectUKDetailing  Před rokem +1

      Brad - Great question. The trick with detailing (responsibly) is to achieve the desired result being as least aggressive as possible. Soft lacquer generally responds better to AIO’s with soft pads. The Uro Fiber MAY be to aggressive to give you a good finish on soft lacquer. We would start with the Rupes White Pad. Hope this helps. 👍🏽🙏🏽🚗

      Brad - In our experience the Rupes White Pad is a softer pad than the UroFiber. As mentioned previously in most cases the Rupes would be our go-to pad for soft lacquers 👍🏽

    I have never used a microfiber pad as I always thought they were difficult to clean after each pass?
    Do you use an airline to clean the pad or is there another method?

    • @VProjectUKDetailing
      @VProjectUKDetailing  Před 4 lety

      S Ba - Hi. They are fairly easy to keep residue free. If you have an airline you can blow them out after each set of passes, or you can use a brush to brush away any residue. We like to lightly mist the MF pads with CarPro Multi-X APC after a few sets and lightly wipe them with an MF towel to give them a better clean to keep them working at their best for longer. This step is optional and any good APC should work. Hope this helps 👍🏽🚗

    • @VProjectUKDetailing
      @VProjectUKDetailing  Před 4 lety

      Hi Tundra Whisperer - Sorry we accidentally removed your question! Oops! You can resubmit it ... We wouldn’t use an APC on a foam pad. Most good foam pads are open cell which means a lot of the APC would go into the pad and that could just cause issues ... best to just blow dry foam pads, brush the debris off with a pad brush and/or lightly wipe them with a microfibre towel after each set of passes. You should also use a fresh clean pad after each panel or two. Hope this helps 👍🏽💯🚘

    Question for anybody that maintains these pads. I used a small bit of tide cold water and diluted it heavily with water to clean out the pads after a correction. I know microfiber doesn't like those detergents that have dyes and perfumes added. Are my pads going to be effective after that? I guess I could wash them again using IPA, Dawn and APC this time. Anybody know if I'm just overthinking it? Will I still get the same performance after I do the second clean? Thanks

    • @VProjectUKDetailing
      @VProjectUKDetailing  Před 3 lety +1

      Hot Pepper - Yes you are just overthinking it! In an ideal world just use a pure cleaner without dyes/perfumes in the future! The only thing that would render your pad(s) unusable is any sort of powder detergent, or a biological wash e.g. never clean pads using powder washing detergents etc. After the next use wash them using Dawn, or an APC and you should be fine! Emil - Hi. Yes most Porsches do have soft clear - however a better pad choice would be the Rupes Yellow Fine polishing pad - it will give you much less ‘hazing’ especially on soft clear and finish down much better to give you better correction and gloss! What pad would you use for a paint enhancement? I have an unopened megs black finishing pad but that may not be aggressive enough

    • @VProjectUKDetailing
      @VProjectUKDetailing  Před 3 lety

      Abel Tatek - it’s really not a straight forward answer I’m afraid! We would direct you to several of our videos - you need to know the paint hardness, paint thickness, assess the imperfection level and work accordingly. As a general rule of thumb you would do a 1-step as a paint enhancement so we would opt to use the Rupes Yellow pad with Meguiars D300 Detailer compound but this is a very general answer! We are not trying to increase viewing numbers by saying that most of the answers you seek are in our videos so make a cup of tea, sit back, and watch them over the course of a few days and you should find the answers you are looking for! There would just simply be too much to type! 👍🏽🚗

      @@VProjectUKDetailing oh man. The world of paint correction is a lot more complicated and (possibly) expensive than I thought lol. I was planning on taking my griots g6, sonax pf, and rupes yellow and attempting to do a paint enhancement on our 2010 Mazda 5 but seems like it's a lot more complicated than that. I'll continue watching you and apex. The selfish part of me hopes that the channel doesn't grow too big so I can continue getting my questions answered quick 🤣

    • @VProjectUKDetailing
      @VProjectUKDetailing  Před 3 lety

      Abel Tatek - Yes it’s not as straight forward as most people think. Ultimately anyone can buy the products showcased by CZcams channels such as ours but what you pay a GOOD detailer for is their expertise! Japanese cars such as Mazda tend to have soft paint so try using the Rupes White pad with Menzerna 3500 first, and bump up to the Rupes Yellow pad with Sonax PF if the first option doesn’t give you the results. But again it all boils down to paint thicknesses and how much lacquer you can safely polish away! But yes ... when the channel (hopefully) gets bigger we won’t have the luxury of answering every comment! Thanks again! Make sure you check out the vids - the answers are all in there! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

    • @VProjectUKDetailing

      hakman239 : Hard Lacquer - Will be better, Medium Lacquer - will be just as good but at times may require a 2nd jewelling stage if you want to get that extra finish, Soft Lacquer - will act like a cutting stage which will require polishing/finishing. Hope this helps 👍🏽

    • @VProjectUKDetailing
      @VProjectUKDetailing  Před 4 lety +1

      @Richard Catchpole - Trial and error unfortunately! Certain manufacturers are known to have certain lacquer hardnesses but the only way to know for sure is to do a test section. Start with the least aggressive method which you know will give you excellent results ... usually for us that’s the Rupes Fine yellow pad teamed up with Sonax Perfect Finish! If you get good results then chances are it’s a medium lacquer! If you still have a few scratches/swirling/holograms then chances are it’s hard lacquer! If you get some hazing or lack of real clarity the chances are it’s soft lacquer! This is a really basic explanation but essentially it’s try and see. Hope this helps 🚗💯👍🏽
