    Heb ri dees. Pronounced with emphasis on first syllable with the RI pronounced as in the word rib. The Isle of Lewis is one of a string of islands which together are called the Outer Hebrides. They form the westernmost part of Scotland, apart from further West isolated island group of St Kilda out in the Atlantic.

      Yes. I recommend he takes a camera and goblook at other boats a take pictures of the interior. Reason, there may many things you want or need to incorporate into the boat that you have thought of.
      Like safety, fire extinguishers. Easy access but out of the way sobyou don't bump into it. Fires on boats is no joke.
      A place for life vest. Flare gun and emergency equipment. A tool and parts area. Plus ways to lock this down and strap in place so it doesn't rattle.

    Really cool to see the galley come together with the mock up. Before moving outside for a few episodes, maybe we could get a slow "yacht sales video" walkthrough of the interior? For those of us who watch every week it'd be fun to see a progress report now that it's taking shape.

    the drilled holes in the foam should be square. If you drill a screw in it can slip that round form. if its square you would need way more force to overturn the screw.

    I like the galley. I think it will be practical at sea and ergonomic in port also. I assume you will add fiddles in some places so things won't slide off the counters at sea.

  • @sdcofer52
    @sdcofer52 Před 2 měsíci +2

    I would lose the overhang on the counters. You still have a lot of counter space, which is really nice. But remember what flat surfaces are like 1) they collect a lot of stuff and 2) when you're sailing stuff slides around a lot. It is easier to have stuff not slide so far. Of course you will have good fiddles on the counters. I like what you are doing Matt. It will definitely be a top flight boat.

    Most interesting project and I have followed this from the beginning. Stainless steel tanks are much better but you already know that. What about the quality of the water when staying in those tanks some weeks. I personally trust only steel tanks with big hatches so that one can clean them properly.

  • @marshallmurrell4583
    @marshallmurrell4583 Před 2 měsíci +1

    For all commenters who thought he pulled a vacuum on the water tanks, go back and look again from 4:20. He used the outlet side of his vacuum pump and got the tanks pressurized to a positive pressure of 1.5 psi. It was not a negative pressure (a vacuum). He commented that if that didn't work (which it did), he would use his air compressor.
    Well done, Matt. Looking great. I would also eliminate the overhang on the galley countertops.

    • @teeanahera8949
      @teeanahera8949 Před 2 měsíci

      Aren’t you forgetting that he said, very clearly, that he is using the “output side of the pump” and that he hasn’t tried it before. All people have to do is listen to his words rather than look at which side of the pump he used. You can also see the pressure gauge rise.

    Hi Matt! The Isle of Lewis is at the top of the Outer Hebrides off Scotland's West Coast. A wee help with pronunciation... it's "Heb-ri-deez". The Isle of Harris, although part of the same landmass as Lewis is treated as a separate island. Luskentyre Beach on Harris is probably the UK's best! I've only been to the Isle of Barra, the southern most inhabited island of the chain. Like all the Hebridean islands, Inner and Outer, Barra is also a place of beauty. It boasts one completely unique feature. Namely, the only "scheduled airport" in the world which uses the beach at low tide as its runway! 😯 Quite the sight, seeing the wee Twin Otters coming in to land and taking off again! 😀

    With respect to the amount of overhang on the inboard side of the galley countertop, I think I understand what you're going for in trying to create a surface that people can lean on while someone else is working in the galley, but from a practical standpoint, I think it might make the passage way to the forward accommodations a bit tight? Also, from an aesthetic standpoint, I think it would be more pleasing to the eye to have an overhang on the inboard side of that counter that matches the overhang on the inboard side.
    Just my .02 cents. I love how things are coming together and will eagerly await next week's episode!

    Looking good. I'd remove the overhang on the walkway side of the galley top (where you originally thought of a 'bar'), extend the back up a bit to stop things on the counter top sliding off (or water from the sink going over on to the walkway)... and then you could put a hand hold on the upright end as you come into the galley area.

An opening in the middle leg would provide alternative walkways and space to get out of the way when more people are staying in the kitchen. Maybe the sofa corner feels a little cramped. But the volume in the room is absolutely fantastic. Jag önskar er en glad påsk!

    Hi mat , you can fit a small alen key in your drill and use it as a fly cutter, no need to hole saw just tape the bottom side and inject thin resin , on a vertical panel you tape both sides and drill a hole at the highest point . I have even used this method on balsa core . The lids on your water tanks are impressive. I confess it looked like you were planning to fit plastic screw caps . I personally wouldn’t have joined the upper and lower tanks no matter what . A heavy see will test your wisdom . love the show cheers

    I think you guys are doing awesome work and having solid progress. Thing takes time, but the reward afterwards is worth waiting for. Keep it up! That will come in handy when the boat is leaning over to port

    Finishing the galley now, will give you a lot of satisfaction, and serve as a design clue for the rest of the interior. Push ahead now and enjoy the summer finishing the exterior outside. On the subject of the countertop size, you said yourself it feels a bit too big. It looks from the footage, like the pathway is too narrow, but you have a lot of overhang you can reduce, as I´m sure you plan to do.. Great project!

    When you have a large multifaceted project I think it’s good to go on to some other facet. It helps cut down the burnout that you are feeling about the galley. I’ve been involved with large industrial projects and fortunately have had to flexibility to move from one task that I was tired of and concentrate on another for a bit. When I got back to the original project I saw it with fresh eyes and that almost always helped the burnout.
