I got a Leatherman Surge for Christmas (my first Leatherman), returned it and got that new 2 tone Bibury. I’ve had the stainless Bibury as my daily driver for 6 months and it is a superior build and finish to the Surge when I sat them side by side. It’s really sad to see an American brand get outclassed by a tool 1/4 of its price, but I can’t carry an inferior tool just because of its brand name.
Wow! That is interesting. I've been carrying a Swiss Tool X for 20 years. The knife and file are worn out. I'm sad that Victorinox does not have a repair program for it. My local stores carry a variety of Leathermans but not the Surge. The Surge is the best contender the the Swiss Tool X. I would have spent the $150 for the Surge if it was available locally. I started to buy the Surge online and the Bibury clone popped up so I read the review. Then more reviews. So, I ordered the Bibury Pro on Amazon. It hasn't arrived yet but I'm anxious to see it. Honestly, I'm not a fan of Leatherman quality. I've had two of them in the past, 35-40 years ago and they did not hold up. To hear that you actually traded the Leatherman for the Bibury is encouraging. 🙂
I have a couple multitool ideas that i hope a company would make in the future 1.) Plier based multitool with implements for tire repair that uses those ruber sticky strips so it would have a pointy pick with abraisive sides, a small rounded fork to insert the sticky rubber strips and a knife, Also a set of allens 2. Motorcycle chain breaker with additional implements: chain stretch checker, sprocket teeth checker, tire thread life checker. and if possible common box wrench sizes. These two will be in every motorcycle riders pocket if designed well, and if marketed well.
Absolutely true. Saw Bibury a few years back and was very impressed. For example, the bit driver which can lock into two positions, and the nice crisp action.
Yeah, I totally agree with you on the hex breaking or the pivots snapping, if you put full torque on it. Bolts normally rust into place and have to be broken loose or have a chemical to eat that rust away, like penetrating spray. Multitools are not solid like a breaker bar is and that will probably end with alot of Multitools breaking.
Very cool options. Bummer that the prices shown for BiBury is for prime members only. I was about to grab a couple but they are significantly more for non-prime. Thanks for sharing Dom
Nature of the Game. Great budget tools with good prices. Great vid mate. We would select the B/bury for mod upgrades. Hvac is the man..! Cheers from Australia.
Good video, Dominic! So much for the sovereignty of the LTG...if I were starting out, that Bibury "Surge" would be an excellent start & value...the Gator Grip is a space saver & can be used for light & medium jobs in one's EDC...it is supposed to take on heavier jobs, but it is a nice tool to have if you want a lighter multiple-use carry...Good job!😊
you are correct about the 1/4" hex not holding up with a lot of torque. my OTMF hex adapter shattered when I tried to use it to break free a clogged garbage disposal... something my rebar and bit adapter have had no issue with many many times.
19:00 The universal socket was marketed under the name "Gator Grip" back around the year 2000. I have a Gator Grip in a toolbox somwhere, but I've rarely used it. Usually, I go with a socket fitted for the bolt I'm working, but the Gator Grip does come in handy for slightly rounded bolts that you need to get off.
I just got that same bibury, but didn't get the warranty(was still $42+tax for me)... due to seeing most extended warranties as scams. One way to look at it... if the tool was bad enough to warrant 'needing' the warranty, then the warranty wouldn't be offered in the first place, as the company would not be profitable due to losing too much replacing bad tools... or they just sell in such bulk that it doesn't matter how many replace. :D Either way, the multitool seems pretty well built. And the inclusion of replaceable cutters(and a second set AND the tool to replace them), a larger-ish set of scissors, both plain and fully serrated blades, a t-shank holder that can be used with name-brand saw blades, and a 1/4" bit holder that can, again, use quality bits... makes this a hell of a value. I would definitely like to see what force those cast holders can hold up to.
21:38 just don’t walk into a bank with this multitool deployed like this, because it looks like it has a silencer on it, and things might not go too well.😂
The bibury IS amazing have used It over and over i work in a steel Factory and i have used this tool in ways you Will never use your leatherman and survived
The gator socket or gator bit is what I always called it. We never used them regularly but when we needed a bolt that rusted or was smashed to the point where a normal socket couldn’t do the job. We’d use a gator bit to grab ahold of the problem bolt and get er done.
Excellent informational vid as always! I used to carry around a lot of tools doing IT with physical Computer Hardware and networking installation but since I was put out of that game I'm not willing to put the cash into the big name brands because I just don't have need for or the money for them anymore. Been looking at these for awhile now as an option so maybe I'll finally pull the trigger. Thank you very much!
I kind of hope they bring the SOG Reactor back. I know it's not much different to the Flash Mt but that little plastic bit holder seems like the sot of thing that's guaranteed to break or wear out and I don't think the Reactor had the assisted release though I may be wrong about that. You're probably right about it being treated as automatic so I'm not sure I can even buy the Flash MT here.
The Bibury Surge Clone has been fantastic, I even bought one for my father-in-law. However, when it comes to the Wave+ clone, I prefer the Swiss +Tech, since the large tools are located on the opposite side.
I just got the Flash MT on AE for $37+ tax. It pairs extremely well with the Roxon KS2 Elite. Both use 4mm bits. SOG is more secure, KS2E has longer reach. Both have D2 blades and bottle openers but that's it for overlap. Both are 3.4" closed and weigh 9 ounces combined.
I just bought the same bibury surge for 39 dollars with free international shipping. I had no idea i bought the best value multitool in market😅. Good review.
I prefer the Rocktol SK05 29/1 multi tool "Surge clone " even though it's a couple dollars more than your choice, it's still $50, and 5yr warranty, plus the additional amxzon warranty.
Thanks for your outstanding reviews on all the different multi tools, I was on the verge of buying the leatherman surge when I saw your reviews of the Bibury clone of the surge which has the full size driver bit holder so I went for that as it allows me to use all my driver bits without buying LMs ludicrously expensive bit kits ! Plus the LM bit holder looks too flimsy.
The bibury's majorly went up in price. The wave clone is $40 now, and the surge clone is $60.. Honestly though, they're probably still a good value for that price. At 1/3 the price of the wave, you get way more than 1/3 of the quality and usefulness of a wave.
I bought the Ozark Trail Multiforce from Walmart about two years ago due to your recommendation. I DO like the tool but their customer service is nonexistent. So much so, I ended up buying another one to replace the one I was having an issue with… Back then I remember you comparing it to the Bibury, but I think back then, Bibury was still unknown as far as how their company operated. It was more of “this company offers this for this price, and for that price, why not buy it.” I should’ve gone Bibury from the get go lol. I’m glad to see they are growing and making good products due to your research/reviews.
Absolutely agree. The Bibury "surge" is the best! I've got two for myself and one to gift. I have the non-black version and I lightly sanded them with very fine sandpaper, almost polishing them. It removed a bit of "harshness" I felt when holding them, now they are buttery smooth! In Europe they go through a funny price cycle where they will cost a little above 40€ for a while and then switch to like 71€ BUT with a 50% discount box you can tick. That makes them just 35-36€!
I grabbed an Ozark Trail MultiForce on your recommendation last year, really enjoy it, so I just ordered a BiBury Wave clone mainly for the smaller size. Love your videos and comprehensive evaluation of product.
In the livestream you were talking about being in contact with a few budget tool manufacturers. The patent on the leatherman juice expires in 2026. Maybe they can get working on budget versions of the juice.
I just got the Shall. I don't know if makes any difference but the scales on it are a separate piece of metal instead of the frame just wrapping around like on other ones. I don't know if that affects strength or durability, but it does make the edges slightly sharp, it's not terrible but you can feel them.. I'd get the Bibury if I were to choose again, the separate scales and the universal socket aren't worth an extra $10. And it doesn't have that satisfying click when you open the knife. Go with the Bibury.

Hello. I have purchased the bibury wave multitool clone that you did present. I did contact them to purchase spare wire cutters. They did answer me that no spares are available and did offer me coupon to purchase another tool. This is not very satisfactory, what is the advantage of having replaceable wire cutter if you caonnot find replacement ? Do you have any idea where to find spare wire cutters ? Regards. Claude
I don't think there is a better Multi tool for the money than the the newest version of Swisstech I8 in 1 I actually like it better than the Leatherman Wave+
Just wondering if you’re planning to cover the 50 to 100 dollar price point. In the market for the next step up but not willing to commit to an Arc yet.
Unassisted knife is easier to open than an assisted one? Come again?... I'm gonna have to pick up a bibury or shall (already have a powerpint, although the bit storage is pretty cool)
Too bad the sogs got taken down from Ali express. Shows the markup the are making on American sales. I bought my Flash MT there last year for $32. I took the knife off mine to make an extremely light and compact plier. I pocket edc it.
It's fine for you to have a preference against assisted opening knives, but that doesn't mean that there's anything wrong with them. Sog, like almost every other knife company, makes assisted and non-assistant varieties. Kershaw makes incredible assisted knives and some amazing non assisted varieties as well. I have carried both kinds in 27 different states and have never had an issue with the legality of either. And I have assisted knives that are going on 20 years old and have never had an issue.
Many times the assisted feature is literally an extra step taken by the company to avoid dealing with the nuance and tolerances necessary for creating "good action". It's no coincidence that so many gas station knives are assisted. It's a "lazy" way of making sure the knife flips open quickly every time. In many instances the assisted feature may indicate a lack of quality or effort into the design and construction of the knife and for that reason it's existence on a knife can be mentioned as a negative unless made by a trusted company known for their proficiency in that areas. Nothing wrong with them existing, nothing wrong with liking or even preferring them. Some companies do a great job with it. Also nothing wrong with stating one's dislike of them in your own vid where the whole point is stating your thoughts and opinions.
There is A LOT wrong with assisted knives but it boils down to being a reflection of cost savings and lazy engineering. Any good manual flipper will be both faster, easier to deploy..and last longer (assisted knives become extremely dangerous as the detent tab wears down)
@@pretentiousname01Most people think OTF knives are for criminals. The blade design is made for 2 things, letter opening and m#&£@r ! A nice slim SAK is at least 6 times more functional and 100 times more socially acceptable 👍

how does the bibury wave and surge clone fit in a TOK XL holster?? mine has the flap on it so if you have the same holster please let me know which to buy! ive been searching for a multi tool to buy instead of throwing my otacle razor and opry 2 in that pouch
I have a question for you. I have a brand new leatherman surge and when I’m carrying it with the pocket clip, one side open by itself when I walk or move to fast and it is extremely to easy to open. The screws are very tight to the point is hard to open the serrated knife and scissors. Is there a way to fix this? I ordered the tool through amazon and as you might know, everything that amazon sell is defective. After 2 replacement they just refunded me and let me keep the defective unit, that’s why I can’t send it to leatherman for repair.
Yes it is because it works good when I use the pliers. It locks very well when I used the pliers but it doesn’t engage when I close it. I remember you said the scissors doesn’t cut very well on your black oxide surge, mine does the same thing. I inspected it and noticed that one blade is not straight, it could be bent or they ground it to much when they sharpened it. Right in the middle of one blade. When I close the scissors and hold the 2 blades together, I can see the space between the 2 blades. It was my first surge but it was also a very bad experience.
I have a question, how Is the tool performance of the black coating bibury? I have the previous version (all steel) and i am a bit worried that look like they coated all the tool including saw, scissors ecc
I mean..it's going to come off over time..which doesn't bother me personally. I don't see anything to suggest performance would be different from stainless version
Why do you think Leatherman is Out of Stock for the Free Series (you mention it being suspicious) ? You think they are trying to push the sale of the Arc? Or discontinuing them?
Yeah I noticed that mention as well. I haven't been into the EDC "culture" long, but as a newcomer, Leatherman is coming off more and more like "hype beast" companies in sneaker culture. Manufactured scarcity tactics, creating huge price leaps and inflated value, especially in the reseller market. When everything a brand releases seems like a "limited edition" with a huge price jump, it's really addictive and almost impossible for them to stop, especially if they continue to sell out.
@@labandlegacy Agreed. Leatherman has a lot of Brand-loyalist which they are playing for profit. The limited edition stuff is super annoying, and even their Arc like for $230 is borderline ridiculous... Having said that they do make nice quality tools and their warranty process is nice. Also, I understand making stuff in America has a higher cost associated with it to employees and regulations (vs China and Child labor). So, there is a part that I am willing to be flexible about. Ultimately, they are a business, and they employ typical business opportunities/marketing.
Whats really annoying is that the second Bibury tool which you got for $35 in the US is £70 in the UK, which is $90 US Dollars. Which completely takes it out of the budget range! 😢
Amazon is giving me a one off 50% discount on the bibury 31 in 1, making it £35 in the uk. I'm tempted at that price. But have way too many multitools. Currently edcing a juice cs

I don't think it's a different gear ratio on the powerpint. I think the PowerPint is just smaller and easier to use
It's different, in the first flash MT video I show it.
Any idea where we can get these in Europe? Thanks a mil
SOG is $50 on amazon currently
Regards. Claude
I know they are all interchangeable between the tools...I'll research it.
Have you ever come across a multi tool version of a set of Channel Locks? I’ve never seen one. I know there is one for locking pliers.
Yep, it's from irwin.
I don't use a credit card anywhere online, that is not specific to Aliexpress.
Bibury wave is 39 on my Amazon as of today
Hey max, lmk if you need some leatherman passes. They’re having a 50% off on custom tools.
Need more drama and rumors on how LMG reacting to any of these...
I think they will be fast and strong in their response and rise price to $350...

@maxlvledc What are your thoughts on the Guidesman Overload at Menards? Great video!
Not familiar, ill check it out.

But does it fit comfortably in my prison wallet? 😂 you should expand in testing to reach a new group of people 😂
Underrated comment
I don't think there is a better Multi tool for the money than the the newest version of Swisstech I8 in 1 I actually like it better than the Leatherman Wave+
It's a Burge.
Just wondering if you’re planning to cover the 50 to 100 dollar price point. In the market for the next step up but not willing to commit to an Arc yet.
I think it's a good point
Unassisted knife is easier to open than an assisted one? Come again?... I'm gonna have to pick up a bibury or shall (already have a powerpint, although the bit storage is pretty cool)
1000% fact, IF the knife is built well.
maganda yan madaming mods parang ibang klasing laro talaga
Any good manual flipper will be both faster, easier to deploy..and last longer (assisted knives become extremely dangerous as the detent tab wears down)
@@maxlvledcim curious where you stand on otfs. I wasn’t really into them until I got one. Them its like “ohhhhh. I get it now”
@@pretentiousname01Most people think OTF knives are for criminals.
The blade design is made for 2 things, letter opening and m#&£@r !
A nice slim SAK is at least 6 times more functional and 100 times more socially acceptable 👍
@@edwardfletcher7790I picked up a lighting about a year ago~(Then a live wire, now a shift). I have been carrying an otf ever since. Its really convenient for doing stuff. Being able to easily open and close 1 handed, even while holding or doing something with that hand, is really convient.
I bought the two-tone Surge clone last month. I had to fine tune the tension on the straight blade a little. Amazon also has versions of the universal socket for $6-7.
🎉🎉 vert happy
The prices are considerably higher now
how does the bibury wave and surge clone fit in a TOK XL holster?? mine has the flap on it so if you have the same holster please let me know which to buy! ive been searching for a multi tool to buy instead of throwing my otacle razor and opry 2 in that pouch
They are basically in same sizes as wave and surge respectively. As long as the TOK fits a surge for instance, it will fit this larger tool.
After 2 replacement they just refunded me and let me keep the defective unit, that’s why I can’t send it to leatherman for repair.
huh...thats super wierd.. sounds like it needs 2 more spare bronze bushings.
@@maxlvledc Thanks...i order it and let's see wow it perform . Thanks from Italy ;)
Your Bibury knives say 7cr? Mine don't, I only see 420j2 on the Amazon page, but I'm in Canada so maybe they're different?
It's on the box itself.
@@maxlvledc Ah! Yep there it is.
I was going to get workpro but you didnt include it in this video ? You think these are better than workpro ?
100% for sure, the workpro was amazing at $23. But not at $40
Four hours later and the Surge clone is at +$59 now..... Wow.... Love how these sellers price gouge at double the initial price....
That's why I am now stating proper price ranges... ppl shouldn't pay more than $40
Will probably be back to $40 within a couple weeks. Keep checking.
Use a loaded card
👍
The thing that kills me with the universal socket tool is the lack of anyway of carrying the socket. Give me a side pocket or something
Any opinion on Daicamping DL 30, sir?
It's the same thing basically.
Is the Daicamping , the same as the Bibury?
The Bibury Pro is the same as the Daicamping DL30
Yes
Is there pocket clip available for bibury serge clone?
Nope, but the nite ize hip clip should work.
Thank you@@maxlvledc
Whats really annoying is that the second Bibury tool which you got for $35 in the US is £70 in the UK, which is $90 US Dollars. Which completely takes it out of the budget range! 😢
What about DL30 from Ali express?
Amazon is giving me a one off 50% discount on the bibury 31 in 1, making it £35 in the uk. I'm tempted at that price. But have way too many multitools. Currently edcing a juice cs
I'm seeing the dl30 on aliexpress for £28. Free postage, I buy alot of stuff on aliexpress, I bought a power pint, I don't like it.
@@odie7764 the powerpint? Fair. But yea, DL30 is basically the same.
Knipex!
SOG makes a few winners... and a lot of losers too.
I like my Power Pint about as much as my Arc.
And now 4 months later.....the price has gone up 150%...
