"Time is on My Side"
The Rolling Stones performing live on The Ed Sullivan Show, 25 October 1964.
"Time Is on My Side" is a song written by Jerry Ragovoy (using the pseudonym "Norman Meade"). First recorded by jazz trombonist Kai Winding and his Orchestra in 1963, it was covered (with additional lyrics by Jimmy Norman) by both soul singer Irma Thomas and the Rolling Stones in 1964.
The Rolling Stones recorded two versions of the song in 1964. The first version (a looser arrangement featuring a briefer, organ-only intro), recorded in London in June 1964, was released as a single in the US, on September 25, 1964, and was included the following month on their US album 12 X 5. The second version (more tightly arranged and featuring guitar in the intro), recorded in Chicago on November 8, 1964, was released in the UK on January 15, 1965, on The Rolling Stones No. 2. Both versions incorporate elements of Irma Thomas's recording, including spoken-word interjections in the chorus, a monologue in the middle of the song, and distinctive lead guitar.
The Stones played live this song when they first appeared on American television shows, The Ed Sullivan Show, on 25 October 1964.

I was there at the ED Sullivan theater that Sunday afternoon (October 25th, 1964) for the taping the first time they appeared here in the states. Stiller and Meara and Topo Gigio was also on the show that day...LOL
You are very lucky ... I like their (the Stones) appearance here. And this becomes a classic and historic appearance. Gary D, many thanks for sharing the story. Regards. HENDRA
Thanks for sharing! Must’ve been quite an experience, especially with what they went on to achieve. They’re really just kids here.
that’s awesome!!
RIP Charlie Watts 😢🙏🎶🎶🥁

this song feels so soothing the first time you hear it
RIP CHARLIE and BRIAN. Nothing but fond memories about this clip. I rented the "25x5" documentary on VHS at my neighbourhood's videoclub with a friend when we was 12 years old. I remember vividly enjoy the first time we saw in wonder "Time is on my Side". What a great performance, and those greatlooking instruments. WYMAN-JONES-WATTS-JAGGER-RICHARDS were the TRUE & only ROLLING STONES.
Rip ! Mr .Watts !! :/ thanks for great music !
Still on your side 🎉
RIP MR.WATTS
time is not on any ones side rip charlie
Happy 80th birthday Mick
Great group
I’m so glad I grew up back then. Awesome, to say the least.
The renaissance of music, never to be repeated.
Mick is Jim Morrison-level cute here. Love how Richards pipes in falsetto at the end.
Actually the guy doing the real high part at the end is Bill Wyman.
Sir mick jagger,awesome
Rip charlie
Amazing I'm 70 yrs old now....the memories......... "time is on my side". I remember my grandmother taking me on a Bus all the way from Toronto, On to Atlantic City, New Jersey .....WOW!!! They were playing at the Steele Pier. They were in a black van....lol it must have been 1964

Love love love
Bunch of clean cut English boys. Nice to see bill doing some back up vocals. and nice bass and electric guitars. especially Brians Vox tear drop guitar. and notice how Bill holds the bass.
How does this video have only 63k views. It's brilliant. Thank you for the beats Charlie.
RIP Charlie Watts...
The curtain, opening slow, slowed him down, at the beginning, running to the mic... too funny
I remember watching that performance and I audio-taped it on an old Grundig reel-to-reel. Less than two years later I was in a band playing that song along with many other Stones songs. Fab times indeed.
Wow 11 years before i was born
This is my uncle's era . i enjoy the story's he tells me about it.
40 years before I was born😂😂😂
Scenes!
they were really good
Yesss... @paul VON... thank you! Regards. HENDRA
I think they had Keith plugged directly into the soundboard. That is why his guitar has a thin tone.
El saludo de mick👁🤴 👈
80 years..... Time is on Micks side... Yes it is!
Yes it is!! ❤
Happy Birthday, Mick! Time is on your side!!!
Keith’s early playing stance was nearly identical to John Lennon’s
Great video! They are so young! Loved it my friend! :-)
Thank you very much, Laura.
All the best. HENDRA
"I think about [Brian] every time we play Time is On My Side."--Keith Richards, 1981, Rolling Stone magazine
The Early Stones with Brian Jones were at their peak.
Jeasus ...Lads... There ain't a dry seat in the theater!
Excelente apresentação

Mick jagger was already dress in 2020 fashion back than
0:14 for the first three seconds, they sounded like my old school’s band
always great stones Hendra, have a good week, jane and brian.
Yesss...great band with nice song. Many thanks Jane and Brian.

HENDRA
It is tough to get old !
Yesss... Thank you, marlspc1! Regards. HENDRA
The golden years.
Hello there, Hendra! A fantastic upload you have here by the Stones, one of my favorites for sure.. Wishing Mick a speedy recovery, bless him. You've uploaded some great songs, I have some catching up to do :) Have a great new week, Hendra. Carol
Hello Carol, glad you come back. Yes, its a nice the Stones song, and my fav too. Many thanks, Carol.
Allways keep your health. All the best.
HENDRA
Great clip, but it always bothered me that Keith Richards didn’t get a closeup. Always thought it was cool that he wore a black suit with his white shirt buttoned up, but with no tie. He did wear that getup for the TAMI show, and got better results in terms of camera time.
Yes. That Black Suit with a crisp White Shirt (open collar=no tie) was a great look for Keith or anyone for that matter.
Those screaming girls are shouting for B-R-I-A-N! I guess that got Jagger and Richards a bit jealous! Those young girls are now married, with children, probably around in their 70s and maybe 80s, wearing Depends, gravity taking affect on their bodies, and babysitting their great-grand kids. Great 60s English group!
time stamp? i don't hear it
They were shouting for EVERYONE in the group.
Charlie & co.
If it wasn't for Black American music the Stones wouldn't exist.
If it wasn't for white folk music, black music wouldn't exist. Or guitars or that matter.
O melhor
Girl @2:24 reeling in the band is definitely thinking with her naughty bits.
Always sesu
Bill Wyman was singing backup? Interesting........
He also sang backup on The Last Time and…I think that’s it
Any word on how they did in Sacramento?
🤲🤲🤲🤲🥁🥁🥁
I never realised that the Rolling Stones sang at a chicken farm :)
the guitar solo is by Brian Jones
Who is doing the high pitched vocals towards the end, Keith or Bill?
I think Bill Wyman...
@@HendraSumatera Correct & it actually surprised the hell out of me. lol
Mick Jagger's suit must've got lost at the airport
Whose high-pitched voice is it at the end?
Looks like Bill's voice...
Do you have the Episode of the ed sullivan show when the singing nun appeard?
I don't have the video. From what I read, it was on The ES show Session 16 episode 14, January 5, 1964...
Hendra Sumatra Do you have the Episode from 19/7 1964 according to amazon music she had appeard on that date.
@@oldtvseries5578 I don't have that video... check out czcams.com/video/1Nwwn9vie-4/video.html
Tragic story with her. BUT if I am mistaken, please please correct me! She left her convent. And took the song rights with her. Her country, in Europe, hit her for astronomical taxes. She had given her proceeds to the convent (vow of poverty) so she didn't have monies to repay taxes. She could not get a waver. Her convent would not readmit her. Jail was looming. She hanged herself. Very tragic. But if that is stale gossip, please let me know!
@@AnneEloiseOfCNY One thing that i sure is that she left the convent. But I am not sure What happend with the rigths to the songs. What i remember is that she her artist namne back, but the convent har many taxes that they hadn’t payed and that was handed over to Soeur sourire. I don’t think that she hung herself but I think she took a pil.
Correct me if I wrong, but after that show Ed Sullivan told that this band will never be invited to his show again. Because of band dressing.
That's right... Even though the manager of the Stones gave an explanation and Ed was adamant about banning the Stones from appearing again (because they clothes and hair) , the fact is that The Stones back to the stage on the Ed Sullivan Show a few months later. Thank you rwdsmail... Regards. HENDRA
Can someone tell me who plays the solo? I feel like it’s Keith not Brian and I always thought it was Brian
Woah Ed is so drunk at the beginning
Look how when they switch to a camera facing audience, the girls are all sitting quietly. Canned screams. This is why tv is hell for musicians. The better the artist, the more layers of bullshit the TV directors will bury them under.
Mick before he learned how to move and work the stage from Tina Turner -- 56 years ago today. #MovesLikeJagger wouldn't have been possible without her. #StonesForever #MusicHistry
I am pretty sure that is a bit of a stretch to say.
@@michaelreyes2301 I'm pretty sure you need to brush up on your Stones trivia if you think that is wrong. She taught him the foundation during the down times on a UK tour in the 60's and he took the rest from there.
@@rainedevries3451 Calm down...don't get crazy.
Jagger is the greatest ❤
2:31 JAJAJAJA man who was singing like that? maybe was Keith for sure xd
The only thing left after a nuclear apocalypse will be Keith Richards,
driving a '64 Falcon with a giant, mutated 6' cockroach riding shotgun.
I watched this episode (Live from New York via Satellite) and wasn't
impressed. Just another Beatles wanna-be band. Probably won't last....
Boy were you WRONG. lol
I'm a fan but this is a bad performance. Plus Jagger doesn’t look professional, just unkempt.
This tinny old live recording sounds better than most modern artists who can't even lip sync on stage
Really big shoes.. Really big
