    DIY: Coasters (easy and cheap DIY gift)
    Supplies:
    Ceramic Tiles
    Scrapbooking paper, photos or map
    Mod podge
    Clear acrylic spray paint
    Foam Brushes
    Scissors and pencil or guillotine
    Foam dots
    Option one is to trace around the tile and then cut out with scissors. If you want a border cut inside the pencil marking.
    I choose to use my guillotine so I measured my tile which is 98 mm, I decided I wanted a 4mm border, so cut to 90mm. I wanted a border as i feel it gives a more professional look.
    Apply generous amount of Mod Podge to the tile, making sure there are no blobs.
    Stick your scrapbooking paper and make sure it is centred.
    Apply a layer of Mod Podge on the top and allow it to dry for 20 minutes. Apply 2 more coats with 20 minute dry time into between. Each coat turn the tile so that the Mod Podge is going 90 degrees to the next coat, this gives a smoother finish.
    Leave to dry overnight to ensure Mod Podge is completely dried.
    The next morning I sprayed the clear acrylic spray to seal the coasters. This is an important step because the Mod Podge leaves it sticky. Whereas the acrylic spray protects the coaster from yellowing with hot and cold drinks. I did 3 coats with 30 minute dry time in between.
    After the spray has dried apply foam dots to the bottom of the coaster
    These coaster are fantastic and easy to create. I’m using this set for our Christmas table. But they make great housewarming gifts, kris kringle gifts and a your a great mate gift.

    Nice video. I have a question. Can you place a mug are something with condensation on it? I was wondering would it rip the paper

      @LoveHappyAli  Před 7 lety

      It doesn't rip the paper. Sometimes they just stay together.

    Great video Ali. It's lovely to find a video made by someone in Australia!!! (What state are you in? I'm in WA) I've got all the stuff to made some coasters but have been sitting on the fence about which acrylic sealer to use. A friend suggested resin - but I'm too lazy to do that...hahaha - I live close to a Bunnings store and they have the White Knight in stock. I would like to know if a hot mug of coffee or tea sticks to the top of the coaster please? Hugs Ali xx

      G'day! I used White Knight - Crystal Clear Acrylic in the video. It provides a non-yellowing clear finish that gives extra protects to the image on the tile.

    • @LoveHappyAli
      @LoveHappyAli  Před 7 lety +1

      It won't do that. If you seal it. I used Crystal Clear Acyrlic. :)

      I haven't tried this. But you could try a coat of glue that dries clear. And do a couple of coats.

    I have tried so many times to make coasters but the cups still stick 😢 I used high heat engine spray to seal and cured for a month and Failed...I Then tried another decopage glue which a person on CZcams suggested and sealed with water based clear polyurethane and Failed. I was just about to give up and stumbled on your channel. Can you guarantee they wont stick with this sealer you are using.
