Within their concept of morality, letting a slightly umkempt methodist preach using the wrong version of the bible is a greater sin than child abuse. Got it.
The Baptist God is fine with abuse of any kind, but liberals are an abomination. It's not about right or wrong, it's about the "in" group vs. the outsiders.
It really is a funhouse mirror reflection of reality.

Apologising for the trivial stuff, is diverting attention away from the really serious abuse problems in his church.
There is a saying about the reason the battles are so fierce in academia is because the stakes are so low - religion has a history of burning people alive over quibbles - and they want to bring that back.

Yes,
however, their schemes to distract are not fooling the millions who actually notice their crimes from leaving Religion and churches.
Still REAL prosecution of felonies will hit organized religion eventually.
People will no longer fall for their apologetics.
Its all about optics for them
These are just another group of grifters from the religious sectors. Just using a pulpit to spread the cult words and to grift and abuse others by using their elitist stature. Keep religion out of politics and politics out of religion and we’ll all be fine.
And if the sheep are not diverted by the trivial stuff, there is always blaming the victim for leading the wolf to prey on innocent.
What I’d like to hear from the SBC is an apology to all the children and impressionable young people they have sexually assaulted, and covered up for decades. I’d like to hear an apology for the very real pain they’ve caused, the abuse they’ve enabled, and the shame they have dealt out to others, when it should have been theirs, alone.

I was fifteen, and we were taught the story of Abraham and Isaac in catechism. I laughed at the absurdity of it. I was sent to the father's office, and he didn't seem much bothered by it, to his credit. But that was the beginning of me breaking away from anything resembling religion. I just put it on the back burner. I had shit to do. When I was 40, after a nasty separation from my mentally ill and religious ex-wife, I started looking into it more deeply. Initially, the notion of atheism disturbed me. But I got over that, and can clearly see the falsehoods of all religions. Present evidence, or fuck off is sorta where I'm at now.

I will never understand why some Baptists are obsessed with the KJV. It's the authorised version from the Church of England. Which is not a Baptist denomination.
It's even stranger when one knows about the "rumours" about King James and one of his male "favourites" that was climbing up the ranks suspiciously fast and was openly flaunted at court by the King - much to the dismay of the nobility in attendance.
I'm sure these people would rather bend over backwards to explain away everything that's pointing towards a homosexual love affair of the King than change from this particular translated (and deliberately altered) version of the bible to any other version of the bible.
As someone who has read at least a few paragraphs of a letter from King James to his rumoured lover - in my opinion it sounds like he was passionately in love with the man... and I'm pretty sure these religious people have never done any research about King James because I'm sure otherwise they would have chosen a different version of the bible if they're already getting their knickers in a twist about a man having "too long" hair...

However, James was super misogynist, and so was the resulting translation, and that is probably what they like about it.
I would give no credence to the degrees issued by that college.
Yes your "degree " is called a BS in mythology. It and a quarter won't get you a cup of coffee.
Well, it’s unaccredited, and its education programs are to prepared teachers to teach in Christian schools. A very good display of the real danger of Religion. There was a time in a town called Salem, that people like these so full of themselves, so righteous that people were actually burned in the name of the god they have constructed in their own minds. All across Europe, long before Europeans settled this continent, lives were destroyed in the name of a self constructed false belief/faith. It's hilariously hypocritical.
He's against humanism?
Religion, especially the "Christianity" being espoused in the USA, has been a blight on humanity for too long.
Well of course he's against humanism. Humanism is naturally secular and isn't based on any theistic foundations, it's the exact opposite of his dearly held world view... The Church does not like freedom, autonomy and progress because churches are controlling, authoritarian and conservative.
Exact opposites.

My mother, who was a life long Catholic raised in Europe, kicked the priest out. I never went back to church or catechism. One of the best things that ever happened. 😊

This kind of fracture is the thing we should hammer on. . In 12th grade I was told by a cute little born again girl I was flirting badly with that I wasn't a real Christian since I had been raised Methodist. The purity wars could be great for atheism.
It _could_ be great, but Christians don't have the greatest track record for avoiding sectarian violence; the Protestant Reformation kicked off nearly a full century of slaughter across an entire continent (the European Wars of Religion). Add in the American love for firearms and the situation swiftly turns into a powder keg.
The problem is that rifts between Christian sects has a very real body count, and trying to "hammer" on those distinctions can be a very dangerous game in the long term...
I love the the complaint about use of the NIV! I'm over 60 now but grew up in an extended fundamentalist evangelical family (mostly Baptists) and as a teenager I well remember passionate debates about only using the KJV and that the new translations were of the devil.. We had a man who was thrown out the church (disfellowshiped) for the 'pernicious' habit of cigarette smoking'.
The King James version is arguably one of the worst translations in history.

I was raised in a Baptist church in a small town in which there were also lots of Methodists. Regarding the text shown at 7:56 that Methodists are "obviously ... doctrinally wrong on baptism," our Sunday school teachers and preachers would quote the Bible verses that describe the baptism of Jesus, explain that those verses clearly state it was done by immersion, and then go on to assert that the Methodists do it wrong because they do it by sprinkling. I thought to myself that those same Bible verses state Jesus's baptism was done in the Jordan River, but in the church I was in, baptisms were done in a permanent tank installed in the sanctuary. Weren't we, then, also doctrinally wrong by failing to fly to Palestine and doing baptisms in the Jordan River? Baptists make a big deal that drinking alcohol is a major sin (There are probably more alcoholics among Baptists than any other group!). In our Baptist communion services, which were modeled on and in commemoration of the Last Supper, we were served grape juice. Yet, the Bible clearly states that Jesus and his disciples drank wine at the Last Supper. It was things like this, among many others, that eventually caused me to leave religion altogether.
Yup, exactly....christians are as authentic as the "wine" they drink.
That says it all.

AND JOHN DA BAPTIST, BOTH WERE ESSENES AND HAIR WAS FROM GOD AND NOT TO BE FUKED WITH. JUST AS BALDNESS AND COLOR ARE NOT TO BE ALTERED. ACCEPT WHAT YER GAWD MADE YA INTO. SAME WITH PLASTIC SURGERY.
I was about to make a similar comment. I grew up in evangelical churches. There were Sunday school lessons and sermons that revolved around Sampson. (They ignore the verses where he murdered a bunch of people so he could steal from them to pay a gambling debt.) I'd wager this pastor has preached using Sampson.
Yeah that's not how they think. They think that if they have problem with something then god has too. And they have problem with anything out of their norm. No amount of bible studies will change it.
God is also mostly depicted in paintings with a beard and long hair.😮
For half of my 80 years I struggled to be considered a good Christian in a Baptist church that was much more liberal than the one you show seems to now be. That is long in my past, as my commenting here would suggest. My childhood church was supposedly "non-denominational." However, its doctrine was nearly the same as the IFB denomination. When the NIV was released, my pastor wanted it to become the Bible the church would use. My pastor wanted the congregants to actually read the Bible for themselves during the week. That proposition caused quite a stir. The board of deacons had many meetings about using the NIV. I remember that the congregation also had a long meeting about it. As an ex-ifb fundie I can attest to the fact that yes, they care more about haircuts, dress, bible version, & denomination than they do about reality. As a former Reformed Fundamentalist, I did enjoy the pettiness of all this that I totally saw in my youth.
Frankly I’m relieved for once that it wasn’t some high-up like Pastor Wilkerson having to apologise for being caught in the bathroom stalls with the invited young speaker, claiming to be counselling him privately about his hair length and Bible version choices! 😂
I was raised in the church of Christ this is just another Tuesday for them
That is the age I stopped believing. About that time my mom was dragging us to all the different churches in our small town looking for some meaning. After listening to one young minister expound on gods perfection for an hour I asked him as we were leaving, If god is so perfect how could he create such an imperfect being as man! His face went ashen and after a long pause he told my mom , “don’t bring him anymore”. I realized I’d severely shaken his faith.
Hypocrites will go nuts over nonsense like this and do nothing about things that actually matter, like abuse. In fact, their constant nitpicking is arguably abusive
there's no hate like christian love.
These people reinforce the best argument for separation of church and state, they judge other religions, if they gain power, which religion will be in charge ? They can’t even get along with other beliefs that are not like theirs.
Oh my clod. I sometimes think that certain religious denominations are more concerned about others denominations of notionally the same religion than they are about other faiths or atheists. I am glad to be out of religion now.
Y'know, as one who grew up a Christian, my biggest complaint about Christianity is the lack of Christ
Wasn't jesus technically a long haired hippie? 🤣🤣
Jesus has frequently been referred to as "the original hippy"!
My husband is a PhD professor and has long hair. I guess I'm going to have to tell him he's "unqualified to teach" 😂😂 😂
How low is the guy who wrote; "I respect the apology and hope it is sincere." When you offer respect to someone or something you accept it to be genuine and truthful. Also the affirmation that his critique of the College President is possibly subject to ridicule, but as it is his self affirmed truth, the writing will remain as published so he may relish the insults to some other of the gods children, cringe worthy. I am encouraged to never be involved with a Baptist.
The response from the long haired man, "Well, that's just like... your opinion, man."
You're Mr Lebowski Mr Lebowski.
Funny that these people don't like a man with long hair, but all the pictures of their Jebus has a man with long hair and according to the buybill, Jebus was a hippie, because he didn't have a job and used to walk around talking to people and receiving donations.
I grew up in IFB churches in TX, when I moved to NJ I heard my friends (mostly Catholic) complain about the SBC.
They were shocked to hear that as crazy and evil as they believe the SBC is that the IFB hates them for being so liberal.
After all that apology I thought he'd invited Aaron Ra .
Considering how Christ is and has always portrayed in art in most churches; with long hair, a beard and wearing a dress... always make me laugh.
If your apology requires a piano laden musical score, then is it truly "heartfelt"? 🤔
Hell yes. This is exactly the kind of cult drama I needed to eat dinner and not think about my problems. I just wish we could get these guys arguing in drag. Also, if suits are so crucial, why don't they learn how to make one?
My son works in an emergency room. Last night a near death, badly beaten and strangled woman was admitted to the ER. She was a victim of an exorcism performed on her in a Methodist church.
Always get a chuckle when Hemant starts out a posting with "Oh, my God!"
If Jesus were to appear today, do his teachings, but never say who he is, Christians would persecute him for his beliefs. There no hate like Christian “love”
Worse, they would accuse Jesus as being "woke."
