An appraiser is a certified professional who typically holds a GIA or FGA degree where they have completed a set number of courses and passed a final exam. The degree provides students with advanced training in jewelry, diamonds, and colored gemstones. Gemologists, however, are not qualified to identify the value of jewelry. Appraisers hold further credentials and expertise in estimating the price and value of gemstones.
When getting your jewelry appraised, the appraiser starts off by identifying the gem (is it a real diamond, a natural stone? etc.). A piece of jewelry can receive a Replacement value (highest) or a Liquidation value (lowest). This can be important when you, for example, receive an heirloom. Depending on where the piece of jewelry is from, how old it is, and the craftsmanship, its value could vary. Using a collection of intricate tools, appraisers determine the authenticity and treatment of the jewelry. Using all of their findings, appraisers will then create a price estimate.
When spending over $5000 on a piece jewelry, your insurance company will require a certified appraiser to evaluate its value before insuring it. A jeweler will not ensure a center stone, therefore, insure a valuable gemstone may require an appraisal.
It generally takes around 3 to 7 business days, depending on how busy the appraiser is. An appraisal can cost an average of $150-250.
We offer appraisals for gemstones/diamonds for the price of $150 for the appraisal of a complete ring. We take around 3-7 business days, however, rush orders are a possibility if needed. If clients are shipping jewelry to us for appraisal, we offer shipping insurance for the full retail price. I had a friend who took her beautiful engagement ring to a jeweller to evaluate the diamond before ensuring the ring. The jeweller took the ring out of her view to his work room to do the assessment. When he brought the ring back to the front of the store she could see the diamond color was different and he quoted a value that was lower than what it cost her fiancé. She is convinced the jeweller switched the stone. He firmly denied any fowl play. Don't let jewelry out of your sight in such situations.

The Gold with simply seeing it by color. it tells you what grade it has of gold and there it shows that it is 14 carat

The light blue means it's a diamond with fluorescents, what color will your machine show with a diamond that doesn't have fluorescents?

I LIKE👍🏻her job but I can't afford all those equipments. However I can pretty much differentiate lab grown and earth mined diamonds using a simple jeweler's loupe and common sense.
