    Getting an appraisal by an jewelry appraiser is very different than getting a statement of value from a jewelry store where you purchased it. An insurance replacement value will always be higher than what you paid because that’s how much it would cost to replace that item (CAD, labor rates, materials etc) new. Inflated appraisal don’t help anyone except the insurance company. Appraisals should be based on comps and scheduled properly. I’ve seen so many times a bad appraisal screw a client because they were incorrectly written or incomplete. Most insurance companies don’t cut you a check. They replace from their vendors so it’s very important to go to someone who is trained. Fair market appraisals are what you can get the item on the open market. Much less than what you paid. Different appraisal for different things. You can’t use an insurance replacement appraisal for divorce, litigation etc. Buyer beware.

    We got declined by Jewellers Mutual, not sure why. They sent an email stating "Nature or type of jewelry item(s) you intend to insure". We were trying to get insurance for a loose diamond. Should we try to apply to BriteCo?
    Or wait until it gets made into a ring then apply to BriteCo? Or just add a rider to home insurance? Was quite unexpected, kinda at a loss. Thanks for any advice.

    Is the 349.99 warranty for Jared worth it? Their standard warranty covers the diamond and cleaning for lifetime but they said this 349.99 is for the setting and prongs. Also at Jared they said you can exchange the ring for 100% of the value if you get it inspected by them every 6 months which is covered under standard warranty. Thinking about buying a ring ~4k

    • @OsirisDiamonds
      @OsirisDiamonds  Před 2 lety +4

      Thanks Stella, Yes avoid Jareds! Most companies offer a upgrade exchange if you spend double. Nothing new. Its very hard to bring a ring back every six months. If you miss once and something happens they blame you anyway. Thats why its structured every 6 months. To make it difficult. Read This warranty that is free - goto.bluenile.com/VyNOxM.

    Hi Osiris, I would like to make a little addition to your information regarding jewelry appraisals if I may. A little-known fact is there are no federal or state laws or regulations regarding the performance of a personal property appraiser only real-estate appraising is regulated by state and federal law. Jewelry and gemstones fall under personal property. Unfortunately, yes, there are many people representing themselves as jewelry appraisers without even basic appraisal knowledge or credentials. In the professional jewelry appraisal arena it is common knowledge that just because one may be a gemologist, or graduate gemologist, that alone doesn’t qualify one to be an appraiser. Personal property appraising is as much a studied discipline as any other profession. In the area of fine jewelry appraising it would be wise to seek a trained professional jewelry appraiser with gemological and appraising credentials from a respected appraisal organization such as the American Society of Appraisers, the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers. Organizations like these and others provide training in valuation methodology and valuation theory, market analysis, and various types of appraisals along with content required by The Appraisal Foundation (USPAP Rules and Standards). So, just because one owns a jewelry store, or has been in the biz for decades including having gemological credentials this alone doesn’t qualify one to be an appraiser. I would suggest ... When you need a jewelry appraisal report seek out a professional in the jewelry appraising community and ask for their credentials.

    Hi Osiris. I would like to know your opinion as I have an opportunity to purchase a lovely bargain diamon ring but I have two choises. Both of them are with white gold band but the diamonds vary largely. One of the diamonds is D/E color, good cut, i1 clarity and 1.80carats. The other diamond is J color, good cut, vvs2 clarity and 2carats. Which one would you choose? The price difference is $1100 as the D/E diamond ring is more expensive than the J one. I haven’t seen them yet personally but next week I will. Which one would be better value for my money? Thanks so much for your help!

    Need to get insurance on my fiancees engagement ring. I only want my jeweler to make the ring if it was lost or stolen. No games played, suggestions on a company? Have read Jewelers is only replacement value.

    • @OsirisDiamonds
      @OsirisDiamonds  Před rokem +2

      Insurance companies have the right to replace the diamond or they may pay out. neither will say only replacement vale. Is in their interest to buy from their wholesale connections. Remember appraisal values are often double the purchase price. Why pay a 20,000 replacement vale when they can buy for 8k and replace. In the end its a business and they will act n their best interest. You will never know what you will get till you lose your ring and its evaluated by the company. But in the end, you will have a ring replaced or the cash. The larger the replacement cost, the more likely they will replace the ring.

    So I’m torn, my jeweler in LA said they can appraise my future fiancés LAB DIAMOND at a lower rate than what it’s worth so that i can pay less a year on insurance.
    If i can afford $180-$300 a year on insurance, should i get the correct appraisal and pay that “extra” insurance cost with jeweler mutual?
    I want to guarantee that 2ct lab Diamond is covered

    • @OsirisDiamonds
      @OsirisDiamonds  Před 2 lety

      Great comment. I think an ideal appraisal is the price you paid for it. If they give you replacement value it’s covers the cost. I hate overinflated appraisals.

      That's where my ring is from and it's less than a year old and the large stone is falling out. Brought it to a local jewler and they placed it under the microscope to show that the prongs are terribly welded. They couldn't tighten it without it breaking. They advised to send it back under warranty and ask them to re-make the entire setting. They wanted us to pay for shipping, first.. no. Now we're arguing about the need to replace vs tighten. The local jewler advised it could Crack the diamond to tighten the way it is....... up creek without a paddle.

Asking him why we haven’t gotten married yet and saying I’m not covered w the ring. Funny thing is my fiancé had the USAA membership 30yrs, rental(apartment. We are in a temp place)coverage is in both our names, the rider is in his name and the truck it was stolen out of is in his name. USAA sucks.
