  • Today we are test driving the craziest Harley-Davidson ever! Some people call this the Can-Am Spyder conversion, but it's actually called the Tilting Motorworks conversion! Check out this crazy test drive on a 3 wheeled Harley-Davidson!
One of the few bikes that can be compared to the Tilting Motororks conversion is the Yamaha Niken.

Here’s the thing with this bike, it’s not for everyone but in my humble opinion, anything that gets folks out riding something other than 4 wheels is a win. I’d definitely make this number three in my garage just for the potential and the uniqueness. Thanks Sean and team for highlighting this machine. Well done.

I'd love to test ride one of those bikes. Great option for someone who can no longer ride a two-wheeler but isn't ready to give up motorcycles. Riding a traditional trike (two wheel in the back) is like having a motorcycle with training wheels, it feels weird. I'm not a fan of the classic trike...or bikes with a sidecars. Gotta be able to lean.

Sean, thanks for the Video I appreciate your enthusiasm and how you bring to life each bike you test ride. I saw the Recent Jay Leno CZcams where he interviewed the owner and inventor of the Tilting Motor works Trike kit. Since then I have considered buying one. I am 72 and have been riding since I was 15 years old funding the hopping up of my 1062 Honda 305 Superhawk. When I was done with it I the bike was doing wheelies in all four gears and I difficulties smoking out clutches, breaking chains and crashing the transmission bending putting so much power through it that I bent the main transmission shaft. However because of work demands on my time I took a 10 year hiatus from motorcycling and got down to one bike (an old R50/5 BMW airhead that was not running and I was considering restoring. This summer I semi-retired deciding to get back in to riding again. So in the last 6 months I bought 5 motorcycles and began watching CZcamss to catch-up on the M/C industry. Of all the M/C CZcamsrs I enjoy yours the best. Also ...on another note I was stunned and surprised to see how much my riding skills and strength had slipped in the last decade of not riding. I doing fine on my smaller bikes like the new Huskavarna Svartpilen 401, the Suzuki DL65O VStrom, or the BMW1200GS. However, I continue to struggle with the Honda Goldwing GL1800 and have Dropped it twice when comming to a stop with a side slope. I weigh in at 215 pounds and both times was carrying a 200 pound passenger. So now I only ride solo, as I still struggle with the 900 pound Goldwing in low speed maneuvers. I know a time will come when I am not able to keep riding a heavy two wheel bike, So I am considering adding a tilting 3-wheel motorcycle, or a maxi-Scooter like the 650 Suzuki Burgman Executive to my stable. What are your thoughts and recommendations here?

Very cool setup. It looks really stable. But for 14k it is a very expensive add on! Great for the handicapped who want to ride again but can't ride a regular bike or people who are to small or old to ride a big bike. It really eliminates the weight issue and falling over! Excellent idea how it will center up when it comes to a stop. Thanks for sharing this with us. Take care and God bless you all!

  • @alwaysplaythegame
    @alwaysplaythegame Před 3 lety +19

I love the tilting motor works, but 13k for the kit means you have to be pretty committed to the idea. If you managed to find a used model, the value proposition is there - but a Spyder is the same cost as the kit and going to give you a pretty amazing experience. It's hard to recommend one of these if you aren't married to the idea of a Harley.

I have an 1800 Goldwing with the TMW conversion, it rides much as this guy stated. With the "Tilt-Loc" option it takes a while to get used to the transition from reverse steer to snowmobile steer which is sometimes awkward and it is possible to drop the bike. If you get one of these be prepared to invest some time in learning how to ride it.

Where have you been? TMW have been made for 30+ years by an engineer who, I believe, graduated from Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. I bought a Honda Valkyrie to attach a kit to during my older years. But, by then, TMW had moved to CA and only made kits for Harley's and a few of the larger Honda Goldwings. So, I gave my Honda Valkyrie to my son, who lives in northern CA. Maybe by the time he is my age (early 70s), the kits will be available for ALL larger bikes. But for now, if you want a TMW kit, you are strapped to a owning few bikes. Maybe things have changed... but, to me during the mid-70s Harley's were made for one purpose... dragging a large magnet behind to pick up the parts that had fallen off while you drove it!

I think at that point I'd prefer a trike but, this is certainly a viable option. I'm 71 and 3 wheels just isn't appealing no matter what the configuration is but who knows what the future will hold.

That REWACO FX 6 looks totally MORE LAME than this Harley. They are so ugly that I had to wipe the vomit off my monitor screen. No wonder it is the ONLY one in Australia as no one else would ever buy one. Written by a true blue Australian.

Man I'm thinking i like this more than the can am trikes, but are they stable?, like will i have to worry about falling off or the trike laying down on a slippery road??

As soon as I wrote to you about it, I saw that you had already tried it a long time ago !!! We use them even in Ukraine! Only not on Harley, but on Honda gold wing, and on Suzuki Boulevard! A little bit improved and very satisfied!

Nice video, nice tech, if you get to Milwaukee and get to the Harley Museum and are lucky enough to get to know an R&D guy you can get a tour of the Skunk Works (top floor of the west building. There you will see 2 tilting Harleys that they built after taking apart a Piagio MP3. They did this back in 2006. Just saying.

@@lesoram6236 Harley copied an Italian design when they R&D their version of a tilting front end. They picked up one of the first Piagio MP3s from Reina International Autos which happens to be about 3 blocks away from the Harley Plant on Capitol Drive
Don't know who"s designs Titling Motor Works got their inspirations from. There were a bunch of tilting designs in the early 2000s. There was an internet forum where designers put things out there to share and promote tilting 3 wheeled motorcycles.

The engineering that goes into a front end like that and for just under 20k in very reasonable.
CZcamss engines are working, I got a Can-am Ryker commercial at the end of the video.

BSA did the same on a scooter with the two back wheel tilting late 60's
