      @Kimeikus that's one reason I can't take folk serious when they're talking about who they would rather vs who they actually really like. As most will try to convince you to like someone, just because they like them. Like hello......how old are you. Cause to actually like someone means that there are specifics about them that draw you in. Most folk want others to wrecklessly blow in the wind with their interest and passions that they find throughout their journey. Being that MJ brought a level of excellence to the game (while I was coming up) there is no one past or present that will take his place. As they would have to supercede everything that he brought to that game.

And I do remember MJ often compared to Dr. J before he became pro. A friend of mine who is one of the biggest Jordan fans out there told me that MJ wanted to sign with Converse first before he eventually signed with Nike.
    I remembered MJ's first All-Star game back in 1985. I'm not saying the freeze-out happened or didn't happen, but there seemed to be some type of authenticity to that story. Overall, if it was true, it was petty. And the superstars at that time should have been ashamed of themselves. It was an All-Star game. And I'll be honest, MJ's amazing Air Jordan's showcased at the All-Star game at that time was one of the reasons why I bought a pair of Air Jordans. I loved wearing Dr. J's Converse sneakers at that time. But MJ's Air Jordan's were sneakers we had never seen before. Those sneakers stood out. He sued the Squires because he believed he was misrepresented and his ABA contract was voidable. At this time a Georgia judge ruled his ABA contract was officially terminated. He could have just went to Milwaukee, as the NBA sided with them after arbitration, but by creating this three way war, the matter ended up before a Federal judge, so Erving decided to just iron out his differences with the Squires. The NBA should come up with a new event during all star weekend, a 1 on 1 tournament where the fans vote for the 10 top players that they want to see in the tournament and the NBA should make it mandatory that the players have to compete in it if they are voted for it, just like with the all star game. Then they should also make it where the winner wins a trophy along with like a 1-2 million dollar prize to incentivize the players to play hard in it and to take it seriously. Or the NBA could tell teams to include it in all the contracts or players who are superstars where it says in the contract that they'll be paid a 1-3 million dollar bonus if they win the 1 on 1 tournament. It would be great for the NBA and would instantly be the NBA's most watched event during All Star weekend. It would make All Star weekend a huge event for the NBA. Idk why they don't do it. I think they should also bring back the HORSE event. I always liked it personally. I think they should also create a 2 on 2 event. Imagine if you got to see Kyrie vs Steph Curry 1 on 1 during All Star weekend. KD vs LeBron. Giannis vs Zion. Embiid vs Jokic. Harden vs Butler. I think a legends game would be good too. A half court BIG 3 style legends game where it's maybe 3 on 3, but tournament style with several teams where the legends get to create their own team and with all the proceeds generated from the tournament going to a charity of the winning teams choice. I thought they actually did like a legends all star game one time? It should be with like recently retired legends though that are still in shape, guys that are 33-45 not guys that are like 50-70 and are fat and over the hill. Recently retired guys like a Kobe, Pierce, Dirk, Garnett, Wade, Ray Allen, Duncan, Ginobili, Tony Parker, Nash, Shaq, Grant Hill, Baron Davis, Vince Carter, Hakeem's still in great shape and works out with today's players a lot, he looks like he could still play. I hate this. I grew up where I loved Dr.J and then Michael became my favorite. I always felt that Julius maybe overreacted to something Jordan said. I hated that Dr.J would never take over the game more than he did and got overly "team oriented," and would talk about how he talked with coaches when he moved from the Nets and the ABA, where he dominated, to the sixers and the NBA, were he was a great player but not dominant, because of trying to put other teammates first. I remember Julius coming off a short injury and had one point in the first quarter and 9 at halftime in his first game back after the injury. He ended up with 40 total for the game. That's the only time I know he actually went off. When Mike came in the league, everything he said about Dr.J is exactly how I felt too. Jordan added that he wanted to dominate games like he wanted Julius to, but just wouldn't because of his "team first" attitude. I think Dr.J heard some of those comments Jordan made, and took them the wrong way I think. He didn't have to get salty and resentful about it, and should have taken Michael under his wing. Jordan was a fan of Erving and i think he made these comments on the old Roy Firestone ESPN show, but talked about how he was an Erving fan and how he wished he would have taken over games more like he did in the ABA, or something like that. Pippen is a far less accomplished player than either Magic or Kareem. I.e. Jordan had less help than Magic/Kareem than Kareem had from Magic (or Magic from Kareem, depending on the way you look at it).
      Being the NBA's leading scorer is by no means an argument for GOATness. It's an argument for longevity. Jordan is the top player in PPG in the playoffs, which is a lot more important than being the leading scorer in absolute numbers.
      MJ was the league's leading scorer 10 times.
      I just don't see how Kareem fits in the GOAT conversation. Clearly, MJ is way more accomplished than Kareem.

    • @j.p.2976
      @j.p.2976 Před rokem +1

      @@axilmar254 Your argument is based on subjectivity and not necessarily on facts or sound argument:
      1. Why do you view the Finals MVP as more important than a regular season MVP? This is your opinion, not a fact. By your logic a Finals MVP winner like Andre Igudola, Chauncey Billups, or Cedric Maxwell would be viewed greater than Dr. J or Kobe Bryant who only have one regular season MVP each. Or more valuable than HOFs Jerry West, Patrick Ewing, or James Worthy who have no regular season MVPs between them? Your argument is flawed here.
      2. Pippen is a top 75 player like Magic. And a HOF. While Magic is one of the greatest PG, Pippen is considered one of the greatest perimeter defensive players ever. Fact is Pippen is a HOF regardless how much you may perceive him as lesser than Magic. And MJ had plenty of help especially during the last three peat where he played with two top 75 players HOF players (Pippen and Rodman). Same number of HOF'ers that Kareem played with (Magic and Worthy). Both MJ and Kareem had plenty of help. Even during the first 3 peat, MJ had Pippen, Horace, Paxson, and Cartwright (former ROTY and former all star). And a HOF coach in Phil Jackson. Cartwright brought a low post presence to Chicago and his arrival coincided with the Bulls' rise from pretender to contenders. If anyone has a gripe about having less talent in winning a title, it's Hakeem in 1994 (no HOF'ers on his team).
      3. You are correct. Holding the all time scoring record alone does not make one the GOAT. But when you take Kareem's total accomplishments which are well documented, it's difficult to ignore his place in the GOAT discussion when the scoring record is factored is. And don't forget.....this record stood for nearly 40 years and most of the greats that came after him didn't break the record....at least until Lebron breaks it next year. As for your opinion about it being a "longevity" record, Kareem's career scoring average over 20 years is 24 ppg. You don't maintain such an average by just hanging around the league as a journeyman. Outside of Lebron and Kobe, there's really no one that has played 20 years while maintaining at least 24 ppg over a 20 year career.
      4. You also argue that playoff PPG is more important than the all time scoring record. Again, this is just an opinion and it's not based on fact. Currently, Luka Donicic is second in all time playoff ppg. Based on your argument, Luka playoff ppg value is more important than Kareem's all time scoring record. I don't know if someone will seriously entertain that as a legitimate argument. Again, you're offering opinions not based on facts or sound logic.
      5. Yes, MJ is a 10x scoring champ. How is this any different from Kareem's all time scoring record? I guess it boils down to which one a fan values more. I call this a wash.
      6. As far as MJ being more accomplished than Kareem, again you're just offering opinions not based on objective facts and some of your arguments are flawed. I agree that MJ does have a case for GOAT but it's not as clear cut as you believe. All I'm saying is don't be so dismissive of Kareem. Don't be so quick to accept what mass media says without thoroughly researching what the legends have accomplished.

They grew up in eras where this kind of stuff was right in their face. Then this guy just pops through and acts like they never had to fight tooth and nail for the league he even plays in.

      I think Oscar has since chilled. In a 2020 interview, when asked who his 5 favorite players was, the first player and only player he didn’t hesitate to say was MJ. I think people give him shit for his take on Lebron in 2014, but if you watch that interview, he didn’t say Lebron was better than MJ, just that he had the potential to be.

Magic was on the other side but he an Isiah hand their finger prints all over that. You have to remember, Jordan was also stealing Magic's shine too and Magic and Isiah didn't like that!

    I can never understand the fact that whenever someone has a different opinion on MJ in the end they call him a Jordan hater. It's just his point of view on the sport. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. If Michael Jordan isn't in your top five it doesn't mean that you hate him. It just means that you prefer other players game more than MJ's. When it comes to Dr. J, he is the coolest player who ever touched the ball. Pure class. He changed the game almost by himself.

    Junior version of Dr. J at first , when MJ first came into the nba. Then, Mj went on to develop the best mid range game in history of the league not to mention that unstoppable turn around jumper. Of course the old school pistons wouldn’t except for Dumars and Rodman. Payton hate would too. I mean if you beat my very good sonics team in the nba finals 4-2 I would also. I mean it was at the very least supposed to go to a game seven with 30 tics on the clock. Well , that wasn’t necessary.Sonics never made it back and the bulls went in to capture to more titles. But of course everyone is entitled to their own options. Sometimes, as my college professors use to say make sure that your opinions are supported by facts. Kobe bean knew this even asking for the release point of that turn around jumper that he went on to perfect himself.
