It's really an evolution of game-efficiency.
Maximizing Profit and minimizing any cost factors / input into a game. When the gaming market in the 80/early 90 crashed it was similar to now - the difference being you can mask bad gameplay and poor game mechanics now with good graphics and a seemingly open and expansive world. Look at cyberpunk 2077 or No Man's sky at release (the latter has fortunatly improved massivly)
Fifa, Madden etc. are just the same shit every year, making millions with not a lot of effort put into then.

The way you need to think of paradox dlc how it affects the gameplay vs what you expect in the standard game. Take hoi4 for example. It is labelled as a ww2 grand strategy game yet thinks like focus trees, strategic options and integral components like espionage are all locked behind paywalls. This is not additional content, this is core gameplay that has to be active for the game to reach it's label of being a ww2 grand strategy.

In eu4 "supporting independence" diplomacy button is locked behind paywall dlc called "common sense" (to mock you) or "el dorado"
Anyways, basically core button if you want to play as vassal (in vassal rich game)
Without it, you just hope and wait someone attacks your overlord and pray overlord loses and enemy releases you as a peace deal
Prime example is holland and burgundy, even worse you can get inherited, and you can kiss your independence goodbye
All due to single button which is a core
When i found out supporting independence is behind a paywall
I knew right away that paradox are scum
That was 7 years ago, amd 2 years ago imperator rome came out which is imho bigger scam on release than warcraft reforged

GTA5 is still riding the hype for being an extremely long awaited title, being popular due to stuff happening decades before and their graphics innovation, Online's still a garbage pile, recent updates have made it better in the sense that you can enjoy more of the content, but it's still a grinding hellhole that really won't provide any enjoyment other than getting a new car, you're still doing the same missions, driving around the same map, using the same meta vehicle and gun, playing the same meta strat to get the most money.

I think Developers want to make good games But Greedy Publishers make it impossible, Good example of this is Dice and EA, Dice want to make great games, Developers are good people, Their games have really good Graphics and Gameplay, But EA always forces them to either release unfinished game that has many bugs, Glitches or no content or EA just monetize games, Perfect example of this is star wars battlefront (2015) and BF2, They forced dice to release unfinished game (Star wars battlefront) coz movie was coming out and With Battlefront 2 They monetized it really hard, Dice actually made Battlefront 2 really amazing and it is one of the best AAA MP game right now with so much content, Developers are really good and they always work hard but Publishers are greedy and it causes Games to be bad, Same with paradox, Developers want CK3, Empire of sin etc to be good, But because paradox is so money hungry they force to release unfinished games so they can sell DLC and make money.

I haven't played base HoI4 for almost a year now. For the past 5 months, I only played "Old World Blues", "Equestria at War", "The New Order- Last Days of Europe", and "Unification Wars".
Especially in the first two, there is so much content, so many things to do, that I just play hours upon hours and it never, EVER gets boring. It's great, it's glorious, it's magnificent. It's like another game.
If a mod about Ponies is better than the base game, if the mod about Fallout is better than your game and the newest Fallout game combined, you probably messed up.
Also, I love focus trees and financial system from "Millenium Dawn", but it causes my game to crash, so I don't play this very often.
Combat system is still very good, but I always play with a mod that changes combat width, to make game more interesting.
I think that's something beautifull about Paradox games. The community mods and the relative simplicity of making and launching them made Hoi4, CK2 (When it wasn't free), and Stellaris completely worth my money.
Edit: I actually liked playing as India, Mexico, China and Czechoslovakia in base game (With DLC's obviously). The team behind DLC's is ok, there should just be more of them, and some new focus trees should be free (Like Soviet Union and Italy, whenever they get their focus trees).

A lot of times he didn't wait to hear Act Man's point especially when he spoke on complacency with Rockstar and Bethesda. I also think Tommy doesn't fully understand complacency. Act Man was merely saying they are not making anything new, but just maintaining current products because they still bring money.

Game developers are not and should not be starving artists. They have a talent, and society has determined that the application of their talent and time is worth money. Corporations exist to essentially advocate for the most efficient (read: laziest) developers and make sure that we are willing to give the most money for the least amount of effort. But at the end of the day, we determine which products are worth money and which ones are not. Our complete lack of self-control when it comes to pre-ordering, opening-day purchasing, lootboxes, cosmetics, and season passes is polluting the gaming world. If greed is not punished, it will flourish in the current system.

I get what you’re saying but Act Man has a point. The gaming industry has become too reliant on multiplayer games like GTA 5, Overwatch, and so on. And you are right to a point, companies should have a lifeline like these online games to make good money.
But what about the lack of attention towards making new games and being innovative? How cool would it have been if Fallout 76 and Cyberpunk 2077 released as complete games? That’s the problem that Act Man is pointing out about the gaming industry. We can’t make excuses for big companies that encourage their bad practices.

It might be controversial, but a really easy way to not give money to editors who make shit games, is simply to "try before buying". Even though a lot of people might not like the idea, pirating a Triple A game at least gives you the option to try the game before having to spend 60 bucks on something that might be completely unplayable or just bad.

In the past, developers had to actually make good games. Back then, you couldn't update your game like you could today to fix bugs and glitches. You had to go on the internet and download and install patches to fix your game, but they knew most people weren't going to do that. Developers actually had to care about making a good game. If your game wasn't good, you had to sit down and work on it until it was fully finished. Nowdays, no one cares. If it makes them money, but the game is not that good, they will still do it. If its broken, they can just fix it after launch. It is disgusting.

ESO isn't even made by the group that is making Elder Scrolls 6. The Reason Elder Scrolls 6 isn't out is because Starfield was their next big game and Covid slowed it release. This whole video takes as a older gamer upset that "The good old days were better" which in some points is true like how the corporate market definitely has an adverse reaction on the quality but at the same time as Tommy pointed out the times now and then are very different in general and the work and effort it takes to make a game that is competitive in the now massive market is much greater

It just feels like another layer of polish that they have that triple a games mostly miss and early access never have.

Dota 2 and CS:GO are not remarkable, they're good games and have the numbers, but they're also just uninspiring sequels. Yes, Tommy it is, I play with it as well, to this day, but that doesn't mean it's innovative. It's the best online shooter out there? I'd say yes, but it's just that... an online shooter.
Literally same gameplay since 20 years.
    From Valve, THE GAME company.
IT'S SO BASIC THAT IT WAS CREATED BY A MODDER IN 1999, and got prettier skins.
this is ther reason that game developers don't innovate, companies and gamers are both complacent with the standard games, cause there are more today, than in the early 2000s
and with this, I'll also say that I love Valve, for what they did gaming(Steam, the best online platform for gaming) and think that they are the least responsible for why the gaming industry have been going downhilll since the early 2010s, we're just at a really low point now. literally 0 creativity left in mainstream game industry, just graphical improvements mostly)
