    Took carpentry 101 - Instructor said not to cut boards with circular saw when the board is propped up at both ends. Because the board buckles at the cut and pinches the circular saw. The board is supposed to be a cantilever propped up at one end only when you cut it. Maybe this also applies to chainsaws?

    I had a Champion generator for my offgrid cabin for about 10 years and it was always easy to start, but it was heavy and noisy. When it died I bought a Honda that has been excellent and is very quiet. Honda generators are worth the money.

    Build your own a 3 horse predator engine a lifetime guarantee 12 volt gm alternator for a 1980 gm a 12 volt battery and a inverter . When one component fails you replace it cheap . Portable generators are made with not quite garbage parts . They are throw away meant for rare use and rapid failure.

    For your Generator problem, try this and see, whenever you are stopping the generator , close the gas valve and let the generator stop on it's own by running out of gas, that is when stopping the generator over night. Then when you want to use the generator turn ON the gas valve and wait for 5 minutes then start I think it will start . Try and see.. Be well and be safe see you guys on the next one..!!

    Do you have a good length of heavy rope, and a pulley? One end tie on a large stump, take it close to a large tree a good distance further downslope, feed it through the pulley, which is anchored to that large tree, then bring the rope back up to the tractor, and pull away from the stump. i.e., pull it down-hill.

    A sure killer of any "small motor" equipment is using ethanol gas. I have not had any problems with my small motor equipment by using "NON-ETHANOL" gas. It cost a little more but much cheaper than having to spend hours fixing carburetors and fuel lines or hiring someone or having to continually buy new generators. Happy trails - always enjoy watching your channel.

    If the fuel has Ethanol it might get contamination in the fuel. I don't use my equipment enough and the Ethanol gets watered down. It also ruins my fuel lines. (Google says: Ten percent ethanol blends can hold small amounts of water in solution, above this level a phase separation of water and ethanol mix separates from the gasoline.)

    • @donaldhofman5257
      @donaldhofman5257 Před 2 lety

      The ethanol actually grabs the water and carries water with it into the carburetor! It then gums up the jets and then breaks down the seals and gaskets! I had given a gas pressure washer to me for free because of ethanol ! I pulled the carburetor off and cleaned it out and put it back together, put fresh gas in it! 2 pulls and it was running great! It was a Honda!!

  • @davidsuperdavelarson6174
    @davidsuperdavelarson6174 Před 2 lety +9

    I have been around many different generators in my time and the most common issues I see with non starting gens is a fuel issue. They seem to be prone to getting water in the fuel when outside a lot and then the water plays hell with the carburetors. Make sure your gas cans are clean before refueling rinse out with some alcohol if need be to remove all water and contaminants. drop the bowl off the carburetor or drain it if it has a drain plug to keep the water in the bottom of the bowl from building up. And as much as I don't like to say it the best generator is a Honda. Yes they are costly but they sure seem from those I know who use and myself included to give the least issues. I have a Honda 5000 watt and this will be it's 5th summer and I have only changed oil, filters, and plugs on it. I went and looked it's saying 731 hours on it.

    • @sherw6456
      @sherw6456 Před 2 lety +1

      I bit the bullet and got myself a Honda, too. The best brand-choice as backup for my small solar set-up to top off the batteries as needed, also easy/low maintenance, super quiet (great since I'm off -grid in a neighborhood) and most important for me, easy to start. I have a real problem starting pull-cords...weed-whackers, chain saws, nopenope no can. Gotta be rechargeables/battery. I can barely manage my lawn mower's pull and it is supposed to be "easy start". So yep, Honda for me, too! :-D

    Generator problems, I posted about this before. You'd be better off running on propane. Straight 87 gas will gumup the carb in no time. You can prevent that some by going to an ethanol free gas or using something like Stabilzer. In the end, propane is the best way to run a generator.

    Ah the generator. Small engines need to be cared for. It’s a pain in the ass but ya gotta use fuel preservative, clean or replace spark plugs etc. and they’re all crap these days. You guys got so much going on but you gotta give time to maintaining your stuff. I have a generac. Don’t use it all the time but keep fuel saver in it, then turn the gas valve off and run it till it dies. Then you don’t have gas in the carb which has turned into deck stain and gums it all up. But otherwise you kids are great. The critter footage is wonderful.

    did i notice your generator only cranks for a little bit then stops cranking on it's own?
    the very first thing i'd do to that machine is find and eliminate that limit switch or whatever it is.
    if it were mine, i'd make that heffer crank till i took my finger off the button.
    be very particular about your fuel.
    only put fresh clean gas in it. the higher octane the better. the best results i've had with my small power equipment is run it till it's out of gas.
    got a small job? only put a little bit of gas in it.
    so there is none left in the tank to draw moisture and go bad and so forth while it sits waiting to go again.
    todays "modern" fuels have so many additives and junk in it a carb full of gas sitting for a month or two is nothing but bad news for it.
    store it only in a dry place, never out in the open.
    good luck.
