Good Lord, I love this song so much. The Nordic countries do pop well, but their ballads are even better! I love his look. He looks big and tough, but the vulnerability he displays in this performance is so unreal. It destroys the idea that guys have to be all tough all the time. The music video is also really good!

My mother passed away when I was 12 after a battle with cancer and was after that growing up with a stepmother who psychologically tormented me which has today caused me to deal with ptsd and anxiety issues. I've tried ending my life numerous times and been homeless three times but I keep fighting and fighting to get to the point in life where I want to be, this song just reminds me so much of the struggle and hardships I've faced and still am facing in my day-to-day life and it makes me feel happy and lucky at the same time because if one of my suicide attempts were successful I wouldn't be alive to this day to make my mom up in the heaven's proud of me and show her I am not going down so easily. I'm on my way to becoming a chef as food has always been a big passion of mine and it's my drive to make her proud that also keeps me fighting and battling my inner demons (as I call them) to reach the top.

We all have inner demons trying to destroy us. Just know you’re never alone. It sounds like you’re on the right path now. After all you’ve been through, you chose to stay and the world is so much better because your story can now help others. That’s what this life is all about.💚

One of the best ballads ever. The piano combined with his voice... It's too much, I have to cry. And you (maybe?) trying not to cry... Now everybody, let's cry together. I feel like I've heard it in a movie. Deserved top 2.
I can't die before getting to hug you.

GDI Jake! DON'T BE SORRY for your REACTION... that's part of makes me/us watch these videos. Because you, like Carl Espen, dare to express some of those feelings. Let us see some of your heart and soul, so I/we can recognize the same in ourselves and be our mirrors. THANK you again for this. And thank you AGAIN for doing this, Jake. I don't think you know how much you help me/us. We never know whos's in the audience, whom we'll touch by our words and actions.
So, THANK YOU, again Jake. And thanks to Carl Espen, who made this possible.
SUCH A GEM! I actually had forgotten HOW GOOD this is. SO PROUD of what we were able to send to ESC that year. Such a healing piece of music, and with such an authenticity. Made me cry... again. Just what I needed today, and amplified by your reaction.
What also makes it such a good entry for me, is that Carl Espen's "just" an ordinary man, with no professional or classical music training, .

I was waiting for this one, Jake. 😃Absolutely beautiful, Norway. The “bruises” Carl sings about don’t always have to be physical or tangible. Sometimes they’re on the inside. Your personal experiences, and how someone goes their whole life to seek love, and acceptance, as well as what they’ve done to overcome their own silent storm. I think he sings about wanting to find love and acceptance in life, whether it be from a romantic partner, family, or even just enough acceptance to make a friend, it does transcend and it makes you remember that you’re not alone; that people experience and feel the same way and the same things you do. The first time I heard this song, I bawled like a baby, because it made me feel like I wasn’t alone in the world, and that with time, things will get better. It’s about hope and just believing in yourself. I do agree, the message of the song is so personal, it’s like he’s speaking to you directly instead of at you and the whole arena of spectators.

MY FAVORITE in 2014 I usually love the norwegian entries, allthough I am Danish Norway always delivers ( almost always) I had the chance to meet Carl Espen in 2019 in Oslo. He is so nice and polite and he told me about his performance. It took a lot of guts for him to perform and imo he should have won. I love this song so much, and you analized it spot on. Much love to you from Denmark ❤️ the country with all the awful songs recently, besides from 2018 and 2011 I am soooooo embarrased when you sit there in the arena, and everybody asks about the danish entry 🙄

I remember when he was selected to represent Norway, I was skeptical of how well we were gonna do in the contest considering it's a low-key ballad. Luckily, the juries saved us and got us in the top 10, which was a happy surprise and well-deserved in my opinion. It is a simple ballad on the surface, but the way he sang it was so emotional it still touches me to this day whenever I go back and listen to it. Glad you liked it and connected with his message!

I was waiting for your reaction of this and I just knew it would touch you in the way it touched so many of us! This is always on my Eurovision song playlists and one I return to quite often, I feel it deserved a top 3 place at least. I just love this universal message he sings of, because so many of us are in our own silent storms, so to speak, and we're all trying to find our place in this world. I'm glad this and the winners song had similar messages, albeit with very different tones, about the desire to break free from struggle - it was a good and memorable ESC year!

My father was terminaly ill during when this song came. It was our «keep it together song» the 3 years We waited for him to pass on.
We, out family, had this song during the funeral
All the others songs he got his wishes; mostly Frank Sinatra, in our father spirit. He died of Lewy Body, the worst form of dementia
This song kept out shit together and made us think of how wonderful and strong He was

This is my winner of that year and one of my all time favourites. I have always had trouble finding my place and feeling like I belong, so this song really spoke to me and described what is going on inside my head perfectly. I have a love-hate relationship with lonelyness. There are days when I love who I am and my differences, but very often I want to be a simple person and part of the "sheep herd" because then I wouldn't have to worry about finding a place. This song is really sad for me, but it makes me want to be myself.

It's a constant discusson about Eurovision that the best art very rarely actually wins this competiton. Sometimes maybe it does, but the common denominator between so many people are rarely the music that touches someone deepest. How could it be... but all performances are winners in that they are performed in front of the enormous international audience, even the songs that don't make it to the final round.

It's one of the best ESC performances I've ever seen, too. If we speak about Norway, then only 2009 and 2015 are better.
    P. S. You don't have to apologize for showing your emotions. It's OK. Especially in case of this song.

@@lindakristinekjlibraten757 you're more than welcome.....Norway very rarely disappoints me......Morland, Stella, Margaret Berger, Jowst......some of favourite all-time👍👍 ......not this year though! Such a silly, childish song from Alexander😢

He has a whole a lot of instant request in store. So, hold on be strong! I have a lot of requests myself, so far none of them have been brought up, but we have to be patient and wait and see. Let him finish this year first and the flags and he will go back to that lot he has sooner or later. If you have begged for this for months, I am sure he has noticed it and written it down!!!
