    Australia 2016 is a really good example of the stage crew's prowess. When you see the Top-Down shot, you can see her floating to the ground - that's two burly stage hands bringing her down off the box. She also didn't use "special effects" per se. There was a dark transparent screen in front of her that had graphics projected on to it. The crew also moved it out of the way for the 2nd half of the performance.

  • @adambrickley9088
    @adambrickley9088 Před 6 lety +184

    Yeah that's arguably the single best vocal in Eurovision history. It had the misfortune of being from Australia and being in a year that was pretty much dominated by the whole Russia-Ukraine political thing. Granted Jamala was still a deserving winner and blew her performance out of the water with emotion where as Dami was the technician. It was a great year.

    • @tristanhnl
      @tristanhnl Před 6 lety +12

      If we're going by purely TECHNICAL standards and metrics - intonation, breath support, breath control, legato, etc - then hands down the best vocal in Eurovision history is this year's Elina Nechayeva from Estonia, singing La Forza. She did not sing a bum note throughout the *entire* competition, and at no time did she stray from established techniques of proper vocal production. It's hard enough doing it operatically, and even then she nailed it. That is why it is *THE* most solid and proficient display of singing, whether you like operatic singing or not.
      Also, regardless of her superstar status, it's also hard to argue against Celine Dion (1988 winner). It's not just power, but ease of phonation through the registers, and the spinning quality of her tone. For me, Dami is a good second place behind her. Just my thoughts.

    She was the best vocally that year. People are trying to pull some nonsense about how the jury was wrong putting her 1st like she was some random talentless singer. Australia did the work for their first ESC. It was perfect. Her being first in the jury vote makes sense, the song and the vocals were perfect. I guess people didnt want for it to won because of the whole « Australia winning EUROvision » but keep telling also, the song is just there to there the most important thing is the staging...it’s a SONG contest...
    Australia did good, she deserves her 2nd place.

    My favourite performance of this century. It resonates with me personally as 2015 my sister passed away and I was suffering with clinical depression and literally what she was saying "now my heart awakes to the sound of silence" - that literally is what I was telling Doctors. My sister was there and now she's gone, so my heart is beating silently because I'm just looking at her in an urn. Dami Im has grown so much from where she came from her audition to Eurovision 2016. So proud of her, as were a lot of my Korean friends ♥

    Hey Jake, thankyou for the reaction for our Dami, and yes we her fans are very proud of her and we still say she was robbed.
    She got down when the camera angle changed to a top view and 2 men quickly helped her down of the box.
    Dami im is an amazing singer that still struggles to get herself known in OZ. Australians are really hard on our OZ artists and especially in this Genre of Music.
    Dami is a very busy artist in OZ and is booked out constantly for obvious reasons, her vocals are extraordinary all the time.
    If you have watched her performances on xfactor, she has sang many Genres with standing ovations all the way through.
    Dami wants to go overseas.
    Dami said while at Eurovision she realised that she wants to put her own Music she loves to sing pop, but she wants to do what she knows before she was found on xfactor. So she has decided to go back to her roots and put a jazz/pop sound out.
    But she will still sing pop in future also.
    Dami is a classical pianist and also plays the violin and Flute, and she loves Aleesha keys style and wants to exemplify her.
    Dami is working on a new originals album and it will be released late 2019.
    It is then that she wants to tour the US and other place.
    This is the style of Music she wants to produce.
    This one on her Album just released April this year which is mostly a covers album. I hear a song' czcams.com/video/pKASdGIjRAE/video.html audio only
    and this which will be released on her new album video and Audio.
    czcams.com/video/43A50Xr-v6c/video.html
    Dami can sing any Genre because she has an amazing voice.
    Here is Dami singing 'purple rain' on the day Prince died a tribute to him so incredible.
    czcams.com/video/0irYEKTnP7g/video.html
    I hope you enjoy them.
    It is people like you that will get Dami there sooner if she can get more voices to ask her to go.

      @d1sarmon1a Před 6 lety +21

      because Jamala got high with both juries and televote. Australia and russia scored on top of one, but were lower at another. That's not "funny", that's math.

    • @endlessspace.8776
      @endlessspace.8776 Před 6 lety +6

      Actually that's not true Dami got 1st on the jury votes and 1st on her semi final.
      Jamala song was totally illegal and political and should of been denied.
      They gave jamala the points to spite Russia and stop them winning.
      That's why Eurovision is now a lost cause and wont ever be the same.
      Most of the countries vote in blocks and don't vote for the best song, even Australia has done the same by voting Sweden all the time, so for me Eurovision is rubbish now.
      Note I am only here because of Dami im in whom i am a big fan.

    • @d1sarmon1a
      @d1sarmon1a Před 6 lety +6

      Russia got 361 televote, coming first, Ukraine got 323 coming second and Australia got 191, coming FOURTH.
      with the juries Australia got 320 coming first, Ukraine got 211coming second and Russia got 130, coming FIFTH.
      can you count? cause if not, i can count for you. Both Russia and Australia scored hight on one side, but lower or another, Ukraine scored second in both, add the votes and you get the winner. Dami would not win this, she was not 1st in the tele and Russia was not with the juries. The fact you're salty does not change that.
      That does not change the fact that Dami is very talented and if there was any other potential winner aside from Jamala, it was her, not Sergey.

    • @endlessspace.8776
      @endlessspace.8776 Před 6 lety +2

      for a country that is not even in Europe dami im and sound of silence did very well, Really SOS and Dai were the winner, especially since many Europeans did not like OZ being their. As I said Eurovision is tarnished and not a fair competition.
      They have to stop this block voting and song that has any Lyrics that mention any other country should be banned.

We were all holding our breath back home because she was phenomenal and clearly the winner, but of course people were still a bit shirty about Australia’s inclusion (yet no one complains that Israel isn’t in Europe?) and there was the whole Russia threatening to annex Ukraine thing. Sucked for Russia too because their entrant was also really good 😅 Dami has been our best entrant and we absolutely adore her here, but a close second to her was Kate Miller-Heidke in 2019. Please do a series on funny novelty entries in esc at some point, that would be great! There are so many gems like Spain's 2008 Baila el chiki chiki, France's 2014 Moustache, Romania's 2013 Its my life , just to mention a few...

    One of the saddest part about EV 2016 was how it was used politically to send a vindictive message to the Russian Government. The Eurovision Contest was created to promote "Unity & Peace" in Europe, but they seem to have forgotten that fact, and weaponized the competition.

  • @niss2car
    @niss2car Před 3 lety +2

    We Australians are more then proud of Dami. Have to say we were robbed by two reasons. 1. Politcs because of the Ukraine situation. 2. No matter who we send to the EV we will never win because we are guests (Not Europeans) and the logictics of it on the other side of the world are too much for Europe.
    In saying that we were robbed, she should have won.

    I think vocally this blew everything else out of the water, but I think the staging was just bland with her sitting there for the most of it. Like gimme fireworks! But it is a power ballad and they’re hard to stage properly.
