    UK with Sam Ryder brought quality (vocals, staging and song) back to the ESC. The UK should be very proud and keep that in mind when they will select their singer/song for the ESC 2023.

    I'm pretty certain that without the current sad circumstances, this lovely and uplifting (no pun intended) song, ridiculously excellent singer and wonderful performance would have led to the UK finally achieving its first win in 25 years. However, congratulations to Sam Ryder on maintaining the good old UK tradition of coming second! Despite less than stellar results over most of the past two decades, the UK still holds the record for most second places and Sam has just added to that.
    Ireland, despite not even qualifying for the final numerous times in recent years including, unexpectedly, this year, still holds the record for most wins.

    In a sense he did win, because to be fair Ukraine was being supported by almost every country because of the situation they're in. If that hadn't been the case it's perfectly possibly would have been first. I have no problem with that myself, Ukraine's song was good and they do need so much support.

    • @hkazu63
      @hkazu63 Před rokem +1

      Ukraine’s song improves more when you know what it’s about. It’s like an ode to mothers, a lot of respect for the women that gave the singers life. Before that, it can also feel a bit of an odd choice to win even with the situation.

    • @CandleLight1974
      @CandleLight1974 Před rokem +5

      @@hkazu63 It was made known from the very start that Ukraine's song was about the singer's mother. That doesn't make for a winning song. There have been many songs dedicated to mothers in the history of music far better than this one, and some of them have even been Eurovision songs in previous years but they did diddly all in the results.
      It was the situation and the situation alone that led to Ukraine winning. I mean, come on! They got 12 points from the public in all but t countries. No other country has ever achieved that. Not even Sweden in 2012 that still has the record for most 12 points overall or Italy in 2015 that, until ridiculously broken by this year's sympathy vote, held the record for public votes with 95%. 'Stefania' is a pleasant song but if you seriously think that people voted for it because they were overcome with emotion for their mothers, you really need to get out more.
      Many have suggested that without the current situation, Ukraine would have struggled to even qualify for the final with that song because of its monotonous repetitiveness and dated rap. I think that's unfair. It's a nice song and would have probably made top 10 in normal circumstances. However, the fact remains that Ukraine could have entered three minutes of coughing this year and still won. As a German/French, please do not insult this excellent song, wonderful performer and exceptional singer from the UK by suggesting that Ukraine won because of their song and performance. The idea of the song was lovely but the song was monotonous, the rap needless and idiotic and the rapper beyond annoying. Ukraine should have had the good grace to withdraw from this year's contest. The Eurovision Committee asked it to in order not to make a mockery of the contest but it refused to.
      Aside from the UK's actual real winner, shout-outs to Spain (like the UK, its best result in decades), Sweden, Serbia and others who ended up there or thereabouts and all put forward potentially winning songs and performances.

    • @angelaburrow8114
      @angelaburrow8114 Před rokem

      I respectfully disagree. I watched Vidbir & Stefania was my winning song. I was disappointed when Alina Pash was chosen initially & delighted when she withdrew. I normally don't like rap but this rap was good, imo, with a great deal of percussive elements which made it interesting for those of us who don't speak Ukrainian. I also have a very soft spot for sings which include a lot of ethnic elements. Ukraine's entry had everything I want. The top 3 songs for me this year were Ukraine, UK & France, with Spain a very close 4th. Before the final, I'd put the UK a little lower, 5th place, but that guitar solo elevated it so much.
