- Excited to release this Overwatch 2 Tank Guide to help both beginners and experts understand how to play tank in Overwatch 2. In this Overwatch 2 guide you'll learn about all the different tank heroes, who's the best tank in OW 2, weakest tank, how to play them in different scenarios and who I think will be meta and pairs well with other heroes. @@414PRisky I mean if you play rein you can drop shield and just stand there or you can swing around. There is no point in not swinging the hammer when your not shielding.

@House Mouse Main your first mistake is thinking roles = their title in overwatch, there are plenty supports and tanks that can outdps a large portion of dps characters. Junkerqueen falls flat here cause her toolset is designed around bleed and anti-heal but beyond that she achieves nothing. average dmg, no tankiness or ability to control the enemy positions. What else is there left to do if you cant really influence the flow of the game? The answer is do damage. She's a 6v6 meta tank and even then I dont think I'd pick her over something like a peel/flank roadhog tbh.

Assigned role doesn't mean that's how you have to play the game.
- Roadhog creates space by being THE damage dealer and fragger with hooks and bursts
- Mei has relatively low dps but gets kills through crowd controls and controlling space.
- Moira has very little utility as a Support but can deal consistent dps through orbs and unblockable beam of an ult.
Junker Queen on release had a very similar role with Hog, being THE damage dealer and fragger of the frontline. But that role is all gone since she got the massive nerf, she's now an off-tank brawler at best.
@House Mouse Main It's funny that you mention Kiriko, bastion, and sombra because those three are useful in many situations and are not special use case.
Kiriko is widely regarded already to be one of the best supports in the game rn, and is most definitely not a "very short time" hero.
Bastion has extremely consistent dps, with his downfall really being his lack of mobility.
Sombra is also extremely good as a dps cause her hack and her emp is some of the best counters to a lot of tanks due to the ability disruption and her tp makes her have great survivability.
Genji is good if you know how to play him well due to his great backline dives.
Torb is a pretty good close range and long range chip + his turret.
Echo is the only one i would say you need high game knowledge cause her ult gains value from you being able to use most other heroes but even then her util itself is very good.
Roadhog is a great damage dealer and has insane survivability with self heal, and his hook shoot melee combo for oneshots
Mei like skeet says has great crowd control and space control
Moira is also not a special use case hero because she has very good heals, just most people don't use it as much.
Heros who actually ARE more affected by the situation are Widowmaker and Tracer. Widowmaker being not as effective in close range fights and tracer being useless in long range fights. Even then, you can still find some value using them.
And I say more affected because ALL heroes are situational, that's why you are able to switch heroes midgame. I play widow on circuit royale for early picks than i switch to cassidy cause he's easier to find consistent value with after those initial picks. Why? because at the start of the game you start with a long sightline that widow dominates on.
you should never need "permission" from your teammates for wanting to play the game how you want. This isn't pro play, this is ladder. There are no stakes other than rank.
@House Mouse Main where your proof for that. I searched it up myself and it said that blizzard specifically said that playing an unpopular character is not enough to get you banned.
And even if it was true, if that was the case, overarching is a bad game then if you get banned for playing the game with a character you want to, even though they offer it as an option.
If you need permission from your team to play a game how you want, I'm sorry but that's just a bad game
Doomfists charge punch can also cancel ultimates like Moira's and Reapers, so that's some very very slight extra utility. Which is kinda helpful since moira's are pretty common

It genuinely breaks my heart to see Orisa so low. The entire point of Tank is to survive so you can maintain point, while keeping others off point, and in that she does phenomenally. It doesn't make her selfish because she isn't sharing her shield. She can tank damage and keep people at a range very well. Yes, her Ult BLOWS, but the rest of her kit is literally peak Tank.

I love Orisa’s new kit, but her ultimate needs some serious work, maybe even get a completely new one. I always thought it would be cool if her ultimate placed fortify on every player on your team, that fits with her brawl play-style and would signal to your team to initiate a team fight.
too op, fortify's damage mitigation/cancellation is the same as nanoboost without the damage boost

as and OW1 agressive orisa main I find this ult ok...not great...not broken..not as useless as the bongo ...just...a little buff plz... the strategy for me is basically to wait for the end/mid of the fight charge it over 130% and kill everyone with less than 50% life
A 40% damage resistance and immunity to headshots and ccs for your whole team seems incredibly busted

Big thing I didn't hear you mention about Junkerqueen's kit is you don't need to pull the knife back immediately. If you leave it in the target it will continue to do bleed damage and you will regenerate while that happens. It's a great way to help her last in fights or finish off fleeing targets while you reload.
The bleed from her axe also heals her. That alone gives her at least half a star's worth more in both tankiness and damage, as it does 90 on-hit and 40 over 3 seconds. Still easy to heal over, but a follow-up headshot or two will pick off most heroes anyways.
@@TheUltimoSniper If you get the follow-up headshot for the kill after the axe, the healing stops. I’ve been playing her in TDM to get the arcade challenge and practice her kit, and there I can actually do a ton of self-heal because the enemy team always has at least 2 tanks. In role queue though, it seems a lot harder to get the self heals, because your wound target is either very squishy and dies before you get the full bleed duration, or you got too greedy for that juicy 3-man axe swing and die for it. In my (limited) experience, the bleed healing is really only noticeable on a big Rampage.
I think the nerf to commanding shout’s cooldown probably made the bleed heals less effective too, since the overhealth can serve to buy time for the healing to work.
Just so you know, leaving the knife in doesn't cause any more bleed than if you immediately rip it out, I tested this yesterday.
Another thing about her knife pull is that you can perform it while you're in other animations.
For example if you toss the knife at someone and it hits, you can then hit her scythe and THEN pull back the knife and the knife pull will drag them into the scythe swing.
On a 200HP target this can almost one shot and there isn't really anything they can do about it
Also the fact that his rating her damage at one when she’s literally one of the highest damage tanks.
Not to mention he completely lied about how to kill at 200 health
Rein feels crazy good right now at low levels, especially when paired with kiriko and/or lucio
I'm a rein main in gold, but going against other reins without a second tank, with a Lucio and kiriko at my back, feels great
Rein is basically always good in low ranks because players in those ranks usually just brawl it out on point regardless of team comp. Rein just kinda thrives when no team has any proper strategies in play.

I played Rein. Can confirm that no speed boosts (Had Ana/Mercy) feels like trying to chase down a bunch of hyperactive cats.

I think Orisa is absolutely amazing and her improvements have helped so much with making her a good tank. The new abilities are really good at tanking damage and defending teammates
She's broken. She can now 3v1.
True, and her kit is pretty easy to get a hold of as a newbie. She can go a full game with only two or three deaths as long as the support is good.

Honestly DVA is still one of the best tanks IMO.
I genuinely love her.
About 70% of damage usually comes from projectiles. Being bale to block that is really really nice.
Plus she is fast and can escape because of her booster packs.

@AntZ3z1 her ultimate is incredibly easy to counter. Any shield can do it, and breaking line of sight is also real easy most of the time.
I didn't play OW1, but playing Orissa in OW2 is what has kept me playing. I didn't expect to have so much fun. Frequently when playing with my friends I'll just burst into laughter from getting a good spear kill, the spear feels so good to hit.
been playing Orissa in OW1, but not in OW2. However i can say the same thing about having fun but on Junkerqueen and getting knife kills

One thing you missed that adds to the power of Self Destruct is just how effective it is as a zoning tool. Even if you don’t get kills with bombs, it will at least force the enemies to react to it and potentially go out of a good position.
One thing I noticed with orisa is that you can cancel your javelin spin instantly with a javelin throw, and if you are already pushing an enemy forward with the spin, the javelin always hits and seems to carry them backwards even further than normal, making the wall pin combo easier to land
Do you find her useful? I used to main her but I don’t like how they removed the shield

Yep, it's insane how useful that thing is with such a short cooldown. It's like a slightly weaker but much more constant Sigma rock.
As someone who never played Overwatch before today, I fell in love with D. Va's mobility mixed with firepower as soon as I unlocked her. I'm willing to maybe give Winston a go, but for now, she's my main tank for sure. Getting the play of the game for the first time (with her) was so exciting. I've been able to go on SO many Killing sprees, and I haven't even played 30 matches yet!

I think an important detail about zarya (that ive noticed as a support player) is not knowing for sure when she has a personal bubble available. if she used personal in OW1, it was a reliable callout. Now it takes a lot more effort to be sure of the cooldown status
Yeah I was a zarya main in OW1 and I’ve caught myself getting mixed up with my cooldown with my bubble, it is a slight learning curve

This was so informative. Since starting overwatch 2, there have been so many tanks like Rein, Orisa, doom, and sigma that I just couldn't grasp, forcing me to stick to the tanks that I already knew and understood. This video helped me so much in filling out my overall knowledge of the ow2 tank roster and I can't wait to use this knowledge to improve my counter picking capabilities and overall gameplay performance.
It's nice to hear about the Reinhardt earth shatter nerf. I didn't know about this and was playing Reinhardt today and completely missed a pin because the Reaper got up early. I literally said to my team the Shatter must have gotten shortened, because I knew I should have had just another moment longer to be able to connect the pin. But he got away clean and then wiped my team.
I would love to see this be done for Support and DPS as well! This makes me want to try out Orisa more when I never gave them any thought before

This video is on tanks because Flats is a top-level tank player. He probably does not have the understanding and experience required to talk nearly as accurately about healers and damage.

something else about Zarya i like to do, right clicking in front of a Rein that's chasing you down as you back away. it keeps him from getting in hammer range and allows you to get out safely sometimes.
For sigma's movement potential, his ult lets him reposition as well as recover if knocked into an environmental hazard, and you can use rock as a pseudo-rocketjump.
I'm not normally a tank player so trying it out in ow2 has been a lot to take in, and all of my knowledge of the characters is outdated. This helps a ton! I'd be interested to see more vids like this too!

I don't even know why but for the first day Junkerqueen felt so dominant in all the games. When you spell out her abilities like in the video she seems lackluster, but whenever I played against her she just seemed unkillable and did much damage, the same goes with Roadhog. Nearly every game was against a JQ or a Roadhog and everytime both supports just stuck to them and we couldn't kill them if they didn't fuck up or the whole team was focusing on them.

Gotta remember that all her DoT bleeds give her healing back. Everytime she hits you with her knife [direct, or it passing through you as it returns, her axe attack, her melee, her ult], she's healing. When she jumps into your team and is bleeding everyone, even if her damage is lackluster, the lack of focus can easily let her sustain herself.
Hog and JQ both live and literally die by the focus fire. If you don't focus them down/counter them they are a damn menace.

this might not be incredibly helpful for lower tiers, these kinds of things usually dont work for both ends. last i played ow during season 10 ish i was at 2999 rating. (idk where im now but i dont see a skill/mechanical drop compared to back then) and ive seen many queens and orisas just destroy the enemy team. i honestly thought they were op because of how many games they dominated.
@@KsanUwU oh I totally agree on that variation/unpredictability, especially with a developing meta. I think the real value is watching someone really walk through characters and you get to witness his thoughts. It's like an in-depth tutorial almost.
Though a lot of it is personal conjecture, I think even listening to someone's mindset like that can help us reflect and grow as players. It can help guide us towards what to pay attention to and the potential drawbacks of certain playstyles
@@bloodreaper16 totally, just gotta count in their experiences to avoid other simple mistakes. Like flats comes from a level of play where people communicate properly, that alone means that his strengths wont work for bronze tier in most cases etc. ^^
@@KsanUwU you're right again :) I think I actually started using comms more and trying to replicate streamers/creators when I saw how effective it was though. I think having that visual can be an aid. I will double underline the "your results may vary" component of your points though - it's hard to see that level of play and expect everyone at your level to act that way.
JQ is one of my favorite tanks and I can tell people in qp do not expect her to be up in their face as much as she is

@@ADoomain I'm a tank and ana main, I don't like hitscan. The issue with doomfist is that he was a broken one-shot hero who could literally freely kill supports with his ult, fly from the sky out of sight by abusing easy to learn "techs" and one shot every hero in the game or 3 shot tanks in the span of 2 seconds. It was unfun to play against for anyone who wasn't a little bitch Doom main.

Myself being a Reinhardt player, having Kiriko in the enemy team cleansing the shatter stun is really annoying, BUT having her on your team and getting your swing speed boosted while walking through the kitsune rush is SO GOOD! It's so much fun :D
Orisas javelin is not only a push back stun, it cancels a lot of abilities and ults which is rly good. I mean u can block the rein charging in or canceling stigmas ult and other stuff

One tip for Orisa's ult is to either combo it with other ults such as death blossom.
If there aren't any ults available to combo it with DON'T panic press the use button, if you keep charging her ult all the way to the end people often don't expect it and walk into the radius while you're still charging the ult. It's also a great way to create some space.
I love your recent scripted content. It's so good. It's all your typical on-the-fly good stuff condensed into a really clear and fun package. I know how much work this stuff is, so massive respect for taking the time to do it.

Thank you for this video. After about a week of debating before OW 2 came out, I decided to become a tank player. I just can't ever seem to get shit done with dps or support. But in most cases, I can switch around tanks to get the W. Doesn't always work, but so far in OW 2, NONE of my tank games have been steam rolls. Every loss has been extremely close

Maybe doomfist could have super armour on his punch, immune to CC until taking a certain amount of damage during punch. It would bring back some of that fighting game inspiration

@@madmaxv161 There is though. They only really removed Mei's freeze and Cassidy's flash. What other hard CC did they remove? Ana has sleep and they even gave Junk his old trap back. Most of the tanks have CC, and pretty much everyone who had "soft CC"" still has it (Pharah concussive, Lucio boop, Ashe coach gun, etc.).

What if doom's punch functioned a bit like flux, where it scaled based on the healthpool of the enemy? That might give him some of his damage back without making him oppressive vs. squishies.

After trying really hard to figure out how to use Orisa’s ult to actually get kills, I’ve decided that it’s best used as a really long-cooldown Halt or as minor area denial + second Fortify to buy time for getting other cooldowns back. It is nice to still have an option to pull enemies down from high ground or into a dragonstrike or something.
If you feel a bit suicidal, illios well and her ult can be rather fun

I'd say Doom should gain shields after Power Block ends (not finishes) as with how The Best Defense works, he needs to be able to deal ability damage to sustain himself and that can be hard when his own ability damage is reliant him taking damage directly, leaving him vulnerable the entire time he tries to deal damage.
As for Zarya, I really think the bubbles needed to be handled a different way, at the least having the charges be separate cds.
I would try giving her a third bubble and increasing the cooldown time from 8 to 10

This tank one was hard enough as he said at the end, and he mains tank. He COULD do DPS or support, but he mains tank, so it would not be as refined Also, there are A LOT of DPS heroes. BUT, Yes I would LOVE to see that.

Damn, I jumped on this vid for some advice on how to use Junker Queen (favorite tank in both beta gameplay and aesthetics) but it seems like she desperately needs a buff in order for her to be picked over other better performing tanks.
I personally as a Rein main (Reinhardt is a way of life) i love that i finally can feel like a tank in ow2 and not be hugely reliant on my healers
facts, issue is tho even tho i main him, my teamates sometimes need baby sitting so i reluctantly need to switch to sigma or some sht so they dont die all the time coz theyre clueless asf. but nothing beats ramming into an enemy supp and causing absolute carnage in their back lines, truly is a unique and fun experience.
@@apan990 i find often and i dont want to sound too egotistical (but you need to have a big ego to be good at Rein) that my team simply cant keep up unless i have comms. Thats why i always start my games by saying "healers if you just keep me healed we will be fine". Plus Reinhardt is such a funny and head strong guy and he is the hero i most identify with

@@Skynightburst i agree. Shield is not for your team,mostly just a way to keep urself alive thats the biggest mistake every beginner rein does. Also a hyper aggressive rein works really well and feelz really good.....if ur team has the brains to back u up
I am rein I am spartan...that simple..ingame you pair me with a good lucio and its man down I'm bleeding out...I am spartan as rein..had a play of the game yesterday where I charged a line of enemy right off the map...hearing the ever quietening screams falling off a cliff as I rampaged round the winning circle with my team mates wondering wtf was a spartan moment..I roared at the screen...spartan rein will protect your freinds..period

Bro, if you want a Rein how-to guide, just watch Flats play. He's literally insane at the hero. He talks all the time about learning to look for cues from enemy players, where the best places to position are, when is a good time to be aggressive, etc. His channel is full of him watching other players and pointing out their mistakes as well. Rate my Rein, Spectating Bronze, and the old "Rein God watches Gold Rein player on Gibraltar" will have a ton of advice.

I think doom's ult should have either more of a radius or two charges, one to see where people are and then you can slam again to actually achieve higher damage
Would love to see a faster axe swing on Carnage, a 12-second CD on JQ's Shout, and a bit more damage.
Ideally, though, I'd also like to see her bleeds double as a necrotic (healing-blocking/absorbing, up to an amount equal to remaining damage to be dealt), and for that to replace the hard anti-heal on Rampage, with Rampage's charge cost being decreased.

I think Orisa's E gives more movement than you give her credit for. While it does only speed you up when moving forward you can, hear me out, turn towards where you need to go. Many times able to just barely get behind some cover with the little extra speed boost to get away from a DVA ult or more often then not realize you have over-extended and dip out. Also gives her a great way to engage her ultimate, which I think is way more useful than you give it credit for. Surely, better than Doomfists at least.
As someone who didn't play OW2, this guide is the most up to date and gives a good bearing for what each tank's strength and weaknesses are. I'd kinda been floundering and not finding any good help for specifically OW2. Thanks for this, hopefully I get less "tank diff" sometime soon.

Good video, I'd suggest going less from a script in the future though. You can tell that your reading down a list, and it's different from your normal chill and authentic flow. We all enjoy hearing your rables, that why we watch you review dice sandwiches and houses on the Market. I'd say just use a few jey prompts to stay on track but getting your authentic and logical reasoning is what I have always enjoyed. Keep it up.
