  • Hot process soap, made with 30% Tallow which includes 4% Bison Tallow, gifted from Miha at Apitherapi! Calendula infused Olive Oil, with Kombucha, Coconut Milk, Mulberry Silk Top, Honey, Lanolin, Yogurt and much more! This formula is for your own use, but please do not sell it as your own, enjoy!
    Frankincense,Myrrh - with 4% Bison Tallow & 30% Beef Tallow Total - with Calendula Infused Olive Oil
    - Formula by Valerie Mosher, October 15, 2019
    ALWAYS make sure you put through a Soap Calculator before using! I soaped this formula at 38% lye liquid and Super Fatted at 5% upfront and added 5% SF after the cook. Used Sodium Lactate at 5% of oils and I “did not” discount this amount from my lye liquid. I added the Sodium Lactate heated after the cook. This was a 3lb batch. ---------
    Formula:
    Castor Oil - 17%
    Coconut Oil (76 deg) - 12%
    Olive Oil (100% Pure, INFUSED with Calendula) - 23%
    Palm Oil - 18%
    Beef Tallow 30% (which I used 2 ounces of Bison Tallow & 28 ounces of Beef Tallow)
    Lye Liquid amount = 38% (I used a mixture of Calendula Tea, Kombucha, AVJ --- out of that total amount (you can pick whatever percentages of those you like) of liquid I used 4 ounces of coconut milk, 2 ounces went into the cook after the lye liquid and 2 ounces of that was added hot after the cook.
    Additions I used were :
    Mulberry Silk
    2 full Tbsp Honey (mixed with 2 tbsp Aloe Vera Gel, maybe too much including the lanolin? And added warmed after the cook when the temperature was under 175F) and 1 full Tbsp of lanolin.
    3 Tbsp Greek Yogurt (room temperature added after cook)
    3 Tbsp sugar & 1Tbsp Maple Syrup with 3 Tbsp Kombucha (dissolved completely and added hot after the cook along with my 5% extra super fat)
    1 egg yolk mixed with my oils very well “before” adding the lye liquid
    2 Tbsp ground flax with 2 tsp Seabuckthorn powder and 1 Tbsp ground calendula petals added to “only” 2/3 or ¾ of the batter.
    EO’s I used were: Frankincense, Myrrh, Lavender, Patchouli, Lemon, Benzoin, Myrrh Resin
    Hope you enjoy!

    Oh dearest Valerie! I am so glad to see another wonderful soap from you! I want you to know that you have been my Crockpot inspiration. I used to make my soaps in the oven, in a cast iron Dutch oven until I saw your style. I give you the credit in my very first- poorly lit- video! Thank you for continuing to teach us and for the love of the craft you display. I wish you all Blessings. Exotic ingredients, I love it!

    Hi Valerie! I think I'm in LOVE with tallow these days. I just rendered grass fed beef and it is amazing. All of the ingredients in this soap are amazing. Wow! I didn't know you could drink frankincense tea. I'll have to give it a try. The tallow I find is just as good for cooking as soap making. Beautiful soap hon! I bet it feels amazing on the skin. Playing in the soapy kitchen is so much fun and I enjoyed watching you create.

      hey dear Jen, thank you ever so much for stopping by and for those very kind words! I love tallow and lard, but the first time for me using Bison, and I was very blessed to have a dear lady gift me some!!! Love it in facial creams and body creams as well! I've read that Bison tallow is more drying then regular beef tallow, so I've tried to compensate with that info in this formula, as total amount of SF is 10 % with lower cleansing and higher conditioning! big hugs

    So pretty, and what a nice lather! Your colors came out so subtle and earthy - just beautiful! 💜💛💚💙💜💛💚💙 My best lathering soap so far had castor oil in the cook and in the post-cook superfat. Yay for castor! 😄 When it comes to coloring, if you wanted a really white soap, how much TD powder would you add to 32oz of oils? Or would you prefer zinc oxide? Do you think we need to use more zinc oxide to get the same effect as TD? I'm so happy you have a new video up - I'm downloading it so I can watch it again while I'm traveling, tomorrow. Great to see you! Happy weekend!

    • @shalebrookhandcraftedsoap7907
      @shalebrookhandcraftedsoap7907  Před 4 lety +1

      dear Elizabeth! thank you so kindly, with a darker batter it can be tricky sometimes to decide how much batter to color and if I had done a "better" lol, design, you may have seen the colors more....when im needing a whiter batter for a design, I try to incorporate more "lighter" oils and tallow too, and then say if it is a 2lb batch i'll add, 1-2 tsp of TD "water" soluble....BUT, your FO and/or EO can end up discoloring the white even if the batter is white, and I've found it will not matter how much TD you use....soooo as long as your EO/FO does not discolor, I've found that to be good for me, and of course that will depend on if you have other colors or not....Zinc oxide does take more to color, but I've not ever been using it by itself any more, because of spots, so now I mix with some white kaolin and it is working beautifully! big hugs and drive safe!

      @Olivers-G0mmer Před 4 lety

      @@shalebrookhandcraftedsoap7907 I think you did a lovely job with this color experiment. Thank you for your thoughts on the TD/zinc oxide. So far, I think figuring out colors is the hardest part of soaping - so much for being an artist my whole adult life. 😁 Soap can quickly disabuse you of any sense of color competence. If the lye doesn't wreak havoc on your color scheme, the EO/FO oil will. 😃 I'm sticking with your approach - make a skin-friendly formula and the rest is just play and surprises. Have a great day and thanks again for the new video - watched it twice on my flight. 💜💛💚💙💜💛💚💙

Nevertheless, the soap in the video is beautiful, so I'm going to make it with only normal tallow oil. I am not good at English. But Valerie's video can understand English if I listen to it two or three times. I'm always amazed by Valerie's knowledge. I hope Valerie is always healthy and happy. See you next time.

      Hello Carol S1 thank you for stopping in and for your question, I had mentioned on there that a really good thing to do so you don't get hard pieces of soap into the batter from the sides, and to help it from drying out, is to use a "very very" fine mist spray of warm water!.... I've tried the rubbin alcohol and it only made it worse for me personally, so that is not in my kitchen for this, lol

      Hello M J, thank you for stopping by and thank you for your kind words and i'm blessed that these videos can help or encourage for sure! When you ask if the ACV makes any difference to the cooked soap, do you mean in PH or? what I like about ACV is that it really boosts lather, and it is great for the skin...I do use it in my lye liquid and after the cook in my Egg shampoo bar, but I do not use it in all my formulas...in an all natural soap I will be prone to use it more and I like using kombucha as well and it would have similar properties to ACV...hopefully this has helped if not, please let me know...
