I Dressed Like It Was 1967

- I styled 3 outfits inspired by the popular fashions of fifty years ago! As 2017 comes to a close, I figured I would close out our decades through fashion series with a style video of clothes from half a century ago, in 1967. From the mods to the caftans to the hippies, 1967 was a defining year in music, culture, and fashion - and also a fun year to ~wear~ around! Which outfit was your favorite?
A huge thanks to Kayley Melissa for rocking out this 60s hair! You can check out her channel here: / @kayleymelissa

Safiya Nygaard Happy New Year Says!
Awesome Saf! 💞
I love your videos! I can tell that you put a lot of work into them and they are always entertaining. Thanks for the consistent quality content 🎉

“Look at my bush; look how big it is.”

Wow, that made me die.
Honestly Safiya is such a talented person. She researches so much and puts so much work into every aspect of her videos and makes pretty much a tv episode. This is exactly what CZcams is about she is such a icon on the platform to me. Great job girl you killin it.
*i make funny videos like safiya i genuinely hope they put some positivity into your day ! :)*
CoriGowins I was going to ask what her sources are for the research. Can't find it on Google I web search...lol
I actually agree she could provide pretty good 15-30min TV content
She is so good at researching! I am blown away!
She should put these history videos on Netflix - to earn more money and reach a bigger audience.
So true

Cool, how could we forget your dad?
and my mom! hell yeah!
Mine too
that was so cool! I was born in 1952 so I totally related to this video and it was fun to get a nice flash from the past. I wore more of the mini paisly dress style but also wore jeans and T shirts...but I embroidered flowers or zodiac signs on the jeans. There were also two jean fashions that we all wore...one was making a pair of jeans into a skirt by slitting open the inside seams of the jeans and then stitching the fronts together and the backs together.....and the other was making your bell bottom jeans MORE bell bottom by cutting open a portion of the outside seams open and adding a triangle shaped piece of fabric. Very groovy.
"Groovy", "boss", even "gear" - they all apply. I was there too; born in '51.
thank you so much for sharing it all 💙 it was lovely reading your comment ✨
Yeah - I was born then as well - JEANS were the uniform LOL
Why was everybody slim? What was your diet like in terms of veg, meat, fats and snacks?
@@argentum3919 Everybody WASN'T slim LOL I thought I was horrendously fat (okay, I probably was maybe 5 pounds 'overweight' at most LOL) when I was a teen (in the 60s)

The first green outfit gives me Buttercup vibes. Powerpuff girls in the 60's.
Oh my god I thought that too
naruto chick I love PPGs Buttercup. I feel like Azzyland would be Bubbles
Well the show started in 1998 and in the 90s, there was an interest in 60s style and fashion. Example Phoebe from Friends.
Heathers duke
True
My mission to make Safiya's hair long has finally been completed!!
Also, team thiccy!
Kayley Melissa hats off to you that updo in the second outfit looked bulletproof.
Kayley Melissa I watch your videos and I was wondering if you could please do a video for people who have curly hair. Have a great new year and a good day
Saf can rock any hair length/style!
Kayley you are the best! I loved all hairstyles and they indeed looked like cut and pasted from a decades Magazize into Saf's head! You rock!! 💟
Kayley Melissa YESSSSS
Being a Beatles fan, seeing Tyler trying to be George Harrison was hilarious 😂

I can't wait for her to dress like 1927! Flapper dresses, a bob, and heavy makeup!
Maddy E the makeup wasn't heavy. For the time, it was, but considering 2017, it's not too heavy. I'm excited for that one too!
1928 though cause it's 2018
Maddy E *1928
It would be 1928 😭😂

this is underrated
“Have you seen Paul and Ringo?” Haha I died x
Safiya nygaard - where you learn more about history , than history. And we’re living for it.
I love how seamlessly you go from informative, eloquent and well-enunciated voiceovers to "Oh, I've married 45 men and kept all their jewels hahahaha" and "look at my bush. Look how big it is."
You are such a well-rounded personality to watch and I love it
Hello
How are you doing and how is the weather condition over there??
Can we bring this video series back??? It’s so interesting and entertaining and educational all at once.
LOVE this!!! Every woman I was close to in my family wore these kind of outfits. I accidentally found my Aunt's wiglet looking for something in the closet when I was a teen and I thought it was a rodent. The long maxi dresses were called "hostess gowns" in New York. My grandma and her sister would wear these comfortable maxi dresses when entertaining for the holidays.
Hello
How are you doing and how is the weather condition over there??
Safiya, I think it would be really neat to see you do a video about "What we thought we would wear" focusing on 1950's and 1960's science fiction styles--like what people in the 50s thought we would be wearing in the year 2000 for instance.
Khalexnet omg yes that sounds amazing!!
Khalexnet Yes! Awesome idea!
Or a video talking about all of the trends that people thought would catch on but didn’t!
Khalexnet YESS
I love Tyler being a Beatles fan he knows what he is talking about😂😂 “I’m hiding from yoko” i died

They drive for that line
You should do "dressing like it was the future" and dress like movies make the future look like
LET'S MAKE THIS A TOP COMMENT SO SAFIYA ACTUALLY MAKES IT!
if she does this and doesnt do a zenon 2000s ~futuristic~ look i will scream
Lauren Boi yeah like perceptions of the future from differend decades

Lifting the pentagon with your mind reminds me of today’s trend, Naruto running at Area 51. We always been trolling since the dawn of man.
That second outfit honestly looked so good on her! Even though it wasn't supposed to, it flattered her body shape really well.
"Look at my bush! Look at how big it is!"
She just sounded so happy about her bush. I had to.
The 60 style looks really good on you. I love especially your grandmother’s caftan.
Hello
How are you doing and how is the weather condition over there??
I'm a big Beatles fan and seeing Tyler dressed as George made my day (esp with the accent)
I turned five and started kindergarten in 67. My mother, grandmother and I all had versions of all of these outfits. Those clothes are associated with very happy memories of my childhood. Your research for this project was *spot on!* Excellent work!
#believe
calichef1962 ya old.
Can we take a moment and appreciate how Kayley kills it every time with the hairstyles
Claudia Arteaga agreed!
That Liverpool accent was sooo on point lmfaoo
*sighs* I miss George and I haven't even had the chance to know him. He died two years before my birth 😭
Meanwhile, he died at the same year and month I was born hahaha
😭😭 rip John and George

"Flinging my bag around!" Flashbacks to recess and hitting my friends in the face with my lunchbox
I was 13 in 1967, first outfit, nailed it. We wore shift dresses, poor boy sweaters and plaid skirts. Yes, we wore white lipstick and Capezio shoes. The maxi dress, or caftan, was typically worn by women for evening events. We teens stayed with the minis. Your hippie look is too nice and put together, they wore random pieces and were dirty. You did a great job!
My mom was graduating high school in LA in ‘67, but she didn’t seem to be wearing any of these styles in the pictures I’ve seen of her. Her wedding dress in ‘69 kind of makes me think that maxi dress. Though she just informed me that her dad did buy her mini-skirts occasionally but it wasn’t common for her to wear.
She imparted on me more what were the rules from her school, and being very Catholic (though she didn’t go to Catholic school). She would tell me how all the way up through high school, they were told they couldn’t wear pants. Had to be a dress or skirt. Being a tomboy when I was younger, I would have HATED that.
@@kimberlyhaines107 I graduated high school in 1974, so I wasn't much behind your mom. We were not allowed to wear pants in Junior High (through 8th grade) but by 1970 we could wear pants to high school. There were so many social changes in just those few years!
How old are youuuu???
I never knew how much happened when my dad was born
I'm still a hippie...always been a soap n water girl, tho. Here in Oregon, there are tons of hippies...wn't say they're any dirtier than the general population, Many amazing artists, musicians, performers, organic foods. It's a be who u want kinda thing.
*when Saf teaches you more about history then school could ever*
You need to release Tyler singing I Am The Walrus
I was a teen in the 60's. You nailed all three girl. Took me back a few years.
Saf always tricks me into learning things about history with these videos! 😂
cupcakexlindsay lmao I'm dead 😂😂
i like how youre rapidly bringing fashion history video essays into the mass audience lmao
she worked in buzzfeed before thats why her videos are so professionally made
lol i’ve been obsessed with the Beatles lately and so when she mentioned them i got really happy 😊
60’s is probably my favorite decade. It had a unique twist of style, amazing music (Like The Beatles, duhh), and such a inspiring decade!

THIS WAS MY FAVOURITE ONE SO FAR AND I'M LIVING!! I'D LOVE YOU FOREVER IF YOU WENT ALL THE WAY BACK UNTIL THE 1920s!!!
THE 1920'S WOULD BE AN AWESOME VIDEO!!!!!!
i'm mostly interested in the 1940's fashion but i love learning about everything related from 1920-1959 so... videos about every decade would be awesome
Not just that! She'd rock the 1880s bustle
Yesss totally agree!
deadlyNightshade789 I was just going to comment that I’d love a 1920 style video, it’s my favourite decade
In a world of copycat content you're one of the few putting out original work that's actually good. Keep it up Saf!
A friend said I reminded them of safiya and that was the best compliment I’ve ever received
Oh my... I was 14 in 1967 and begged my mum to shorten all my dresses to Mini length. I also have a photo of me outside our house in a psychedelic Paisley shift dress. I was the envy of my friends. In those days I could make a dress out of a yard of material (36"x 36") as I was only 5' tall (still am 😏) I didn't need much length.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane 😘
Hi
"I'm THICCY" omg yas this gave me life

"For this outfit, I paired this long purple-patterned dress with silver bangles, shoes, ..." I love the no explanation "shoes" :D
You look good in any style of clothing. From someone who was 16 in 1967, you brought back many memories. Thanks Safiya.
I love the amount of Beatles that was included in the video🧡🧡
I really, really love these videos. Not only are they so much fun to watch, but I actually learn a lot as well. I love how much work you put into your videos! And I love when Tyler gets involved, too!

+Sudiksha Tripathi
How? Can you read? Their grammar/ spelling is fine.
Courtney Davison sry that was my mistake I read it without wearing my specs so,,,,, .....but leave it
groovy baby
I think it would be really cool if you did a video dressing as fashion icons of different decades for a week
Ying Zhao Yes she has but I’m talking about going more in depth talking about the specific iconic figures who have inspired the looks she has been creating. I’m also saying go for one specific person so for example instead of an outfit inspired by let’s say Marilyn Monroe she transforms herself into her with hair makeup clothing and personality. As she does this she tells her viewers about who they were and what they have done and educating people who may not know about these icons who have left an impact on fashion and style.
I hope that makes sense. Sorry if it doesn’t I tend to ramble on a lot😅
Ying Zhao no need to apologize! I just wanted to make my idea clear so people would understand it better. Also your English is perfect don’t worry hun❤️
I’m hyperventilating because i love both George and Pattie
My favorite outfit was the green mod dress. I just love that style!
You should do like predictive fashion like: ‘what fashion might be like in 2020’
There would be like armies of clear plastic jeans
I feel weird there will be no clothes in 2020😂
Mind fuck. 2020 is in two years
I feel weird lol
Mahnoor Jehangir probably 3000
Peasant look will be back.
Witchy broom skirts, head scarf, peasant blouse, lace-up boots. Something like that.
Every five years, I swear it's recycled.
You can tell she puts a lot of effort in her videos.
Maddison Toia And has a lot of fun making them!
I asked my dad about the Pentagon thing, and it really did happen.
The third hippie look is amazing! So accurate and it looks great on you, Saf!
My boyfriend is requesting that Tyler do this same series about men's fashion!
Jenna Beckwith omg yassssss
i would love that!

So...suits. Lots. and lots. of suits.
As a Mod in love with everything 60s I would enjoy that a lot
i can't wait for when you dress up like it was 1897
i was pleasantly surprised with how accurate this was! well done, you truly captured multiple aspects of the decade.
Outfit #2 is where it is at!!!! Beautiful!!! I almost did not recognize her !!!! Gorgeous!!! She could absolutely pull that off every day!!!! Wow ...

I've watched this numerous times! I love these videos and the sixties were my favorite decade next to the 70's...THAT was the best decade of all! I wish I could go back to 1974!
I love how confident and comfortable you are in yourself! Also so pretty and funny! Watching all your vids whilst on lockdown ! So thanks for making them. 👏🏻
The fact that the second dress is her grandmothers from india is SO cool

OK. Just finished the vid. Verdict? Absolute *_GOLD_* Saf's content just perpetually amazes me with its thoroughness, hilarity & creative conception.
kelllsey12000 I love that as a newer CZcamsr she sticks to a classic CZcamsr style! She always produces interesting content with no clickbait!
I told my mom about when they tried to move the pentagon
She wasn’t born in the 60s but she said they won’t tell you but it worked 😂
My childhood : ) Enjoying your fashion vids. You look beautiful in grandma's dress (& hair helmet).
The second look/outfit/makeup was actually breathtaking on you. It suits you amazingly well. omg.
Don't change the format too much, these videos are part of why everyone thinks you're one of the top original creators on youtube right now. Plus you're educating us. I want to see 1940s button dresses and hats and stuff. This could be like a fashion history video thing for the future!! People'll be like "what did people wear in 1911?! And then they'll be like, that youtube woman makes videos for this, you'll be famous hundreds of years from now. Haven't eaten brekkie yet, gone a bit mad. The future!!! Silver!
yes! one for the archives
Agreed
I like how much she researches for these videos. You can tell she put a lot of effort. Especially how she explains how the different subcultures led to different styles. Then she made the effort to get clothes from someone who lived during the Era. Cool to see.
its so cool to see that some of these styles are coming back now

Safiya looks absolutely gorgeous in the second outfit!! After watching your recent color matching video it makes sense because those are all of the winter colors that you are suggested to wear based on your skin tone. It just looks so good on you.
I've been trying to work out why I love her videos so much, and why she is so popular. Through her videos we don't see her like other youtubers. Maybe it's because she only mainly films with Tyler but there's something. It's like you know her better and she appreciates her viewers, especially in comparison to other youtubers. I forget she has almsot 4 million subscribers sometimes. She still has that 100k or less feel. Don't get me wrong - I love this about her. It's why I love her channel.
I think it's because she's personal and quirky but also knows her audience and how to deliver to them. She also keeps a routine/structure with her videos and knows how to edit and script them properly at a professional level.
She actually puts time, thought and effort into her videos unlike many others who just turn on a camera and talk or vlog about their boring lives LOL
She has very creative content and she's not trying to sell you anything - not to mention a great personality. I think that's what sets her apart.
Safiya, You did an excellent job showing us 1967. I was there, in the summer of love as it was known, I lived in Berkeley and my boyfriend lived across from Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.
SUCH a cool and well done series, love watching it over and over!
there will be a time where Safiya will wear some poofy dress and a corset down the street.
