    Just a thought: I'm 70 & was diagnosed with Alzheimers 5 years ago but thankfully still allowed to drive. For how long I have no idea but hope I will recognise it's time to give up before being pushed as I spent over 30 years in the fire service observing the results of poor driving. On the subject of a vehicle handover I just want to raise an issue I have. As my 'instant memory is real poor', it makes new toys or changing brands with stuff that works different. TBF the last sails person knew my situation & said I could contact him anytime if I was unsure about anything. I'm 18 months from a change and right now fancy a brand I have never driven before. Great vid, stay safe x

    I have to say that I have a HUGE love/hate relationship with Land Rovers. When they work, they are without doubt one of the best most comfortable, relaxing driving you can enjoy. However, Land Rover seriously needs to address the whole reliability issue of the whole brand, from a Range Rover owner myself, it feels like they just don't care to fix it. It's almost as if they expect their customers to accept the unreliability when you buy them.

  • @DjNikGnashers
    @DjNikGnashers Před 6 měsíci +3

    Fair play to you Pete, this certainly makes a change.
    I was expecting another £100k+ out-of-reach SUV.
    This actually took me by surprise, and it's exactly the sort of thing the majority of normal car owners who aren't petrolheads, might be looking at.
    It doesn't interest me in the slightest, but I am in a tiny minority of car fanatics, so I will be following the mid-term living with style opinion on this one.

    Just been on Vauxhall's website. PCP example (after some digging) requires £10 grand deposit to make it even remotely affordable , 5k per year mileage allowance and a 5 year term. I will watch with interest what the real range of this is. That finance works out over a pound a mile before you tax (it's coming) insurance (ouch) maintenance (£££ tyres) or charge it. (up to 85p / kWh) Absolute madness. What's really crazy is 2 years ago you could buy a brand new pre reg previous gen Astra for just £12k!!!

    • @graemecollie9233
      @graemecollie9233 Před 6 měsíci +3

      I'm guessing you don't drive an EV. VED will be £160 so not a deal breaker, virtually no maintenance (Vauxhall EV service is £70 inc. VAT) except for tyres which are within 5% of normal car tyres and if you are charging at 85p/kWh then more fool you, public charging can be had at anything from 35p/kWh, even less if you have a charging subscription scheme. Insurance is on a par with ICE cars despite the best efforts of ill informed people to convince people otherwise.
      The one downside to Vauxhall EV's is the depreciation but then presently, everything is taking a bath whilst the market adjusts to where it should be after the Covid Halcyon depreciation light days.

    The £40K+ price of this is nuts, (although AT has a new one at £31K), especially compared to an MG for £15K less or….you can pick up a 2021 Peugeot e-3008 (which I assume has a lot of Stellantis genes) for around £12K…! Not jumping on the EV hating bandwagon, but just based on its list price, you’d be nuts to get this on a personal basis….look forward to the content on it though

      @adamcole4808 Před 6 měsíci +3

      Agree, price point starting at £40k is too high. Lots of arguably better competition at the price. It's an ICE car converted to EV which is never optimal. Say it quietly but a Tesla Model 3 is £40k for a car with significantly more range and probably a better driving experience. Also a dramatically better road trip charging experience if you regularly do long journeys.

  • @insigniatek3775
    @insigniatek3775 Před 6 měsíci +1

    I grew up in a time and culture when unless you were really well off, Ford and Vauxhall were the best you could hope for. There were obviously other manufacturers around in the same price range but I was almost brainwashed with “You can’t go wrong with a Henry or GM”. I could go on and on here but the short story is that I’ve had a few of each and due to some bad luck and at least as much bad decision making I have never made it to any of the more prestigious brands. Even now as I approach my driving twilight years I still look at these two brands when I’m buying a used car, and you might guess by my username that I have a liking for the Insignia. Don’t really know where I’m going with this so I’ll just finish by saying that I’m looking forward to your take on the now French owned Vauxhall brand and more specifically their latest Astra. Though I would be absolutely gutted going from a Defender to this ‘Tin Pot’. At least it’s not a Dagenham dustbin! Keep up the great work Ped 😊

      I saw that too. The drop was relative to a 1 year old value of the same car last year. That means the Mokka lost around 70% of it's list prices at 1 year old and 10,000 miles. Truly nuts proposition for a private new car buyer but arguably not bad for the second owner if you can live with an EV ...and a Vauxhall.

    A couple of suggestions for living with an EV. Make time to read the Manual, most of the people who have problems never read it. Get into the habit of 'Top Up' charging around your useage. Don't wait until the Tank is nearly empty. Remember a selection of charge points along your normal routes, the most important being the one that will get you home, (for my LEAF the new HUB at Rugby Services M6 will get me home to Havant) Change your Electricity provider to have a low price overnight charge session.
    Otherwise just enjoy the drive .

    The reason for range anxiety is varied. First off it takes maybe 10mins to fill a petrol or diesel not an hour (assuming you can find a charging location) It's NOT a mindset, thats just a sales person talking sales stuff. When people get in a car and the very first thing they talk about is the "info tainment" thats a red flag.

    Model 3 or an Astra for 40k , I can't see who's going home with this......I would imagine you'll be able to pickup a new pre-registered one in the 3rd quarter for under 30k when Vauxhall panic and realise they won't hit the 22% target

      Nail on the head. No private motorist in their right mind would buy a brand new EV right now. End of the year the market will be flooded with pre reg. better to sell an EV at a £10k loss than an ICE and get a £15k fine.
      If the ZEV mandate doesn’t get scrapped, there’s going to be a few manufacturers go bankrupt because of idiotic governments.

    Thinking back to the handover when I bought my current car a couple of years ago. After all of the finance and paperowrk was dealth with, it consisted of them giving me the keys and telling me where the car was. There was someone by the car when I got there, who asked if there was anything I wanted to know. I replied, I'm sure I'll work it out. Then I drove off. To be fair, that seemed like it was enough. I was at the garage for 10-15 minutes.

    Looking forward to your review Pete, Vauxhall do appear to have upped their game on the styling front at least. Coming up to a year of ownership of our Mokka-e which we bought used and its cost us nothing except for public charging as we don't have access to allow us to charge at home and even that is a fraction of what it cost to run and maintain the ICE car it replaced.
    Conspiracy theory; Stelantis charge a premium price so that when it's leased, the monthly payments have enough margin in them for the company to make a profit on each vehicle even with the depreciation levels...

    I’m a EV fan but the land rover Id jump in all the time unless it was the only car available that Vauxhall would sit. Thankfully it’s only a month a useful you’ll get to experience it to pass on your thoughts. You’ll miss the LR if we get more snow ❄️ plus and I usually hate huge vehicles I liked the Tonka toy look of it. This blue Car is probably frightening dear to buy, please don’t say it’s over £30k for a Astra. (typing as I watch) Dealers have to be honest on range from day one or all you do is disappoint owners who thought because they got told they got more. A bit like MPG figures for some brands where a bit fantasy island.

    Love the Defender and although I'd go for the 110, I can understand why you didn't want it to go.
    The Astra is an interesting car, alongside the other variations from the Stellantis group. Not sure why but i've never really been a fan of Vauxhall and always preferred Ford.
    The current offerings are a little confusing price wise as list price of the Astra and Cross seem to be way too high compared to other similar cars from different manufacturers but recently Vauxhall have been offering some massive discounts of up to £9k I understand which make the cars more competitive. It's a conundrum as to why price them as they have and then discount? Why not just make the list price lower in the first place, although the whole industry seems to be having a price crisis so who knows?
    Look forward to seeing your thoughts and how you adjust from the defender?
