I see that Hagrid didn’t have enough single malt whiskey for the Abraxan horses, and one of them died from thirst.
HA
🤣
this is so sad can we get three gazillion likes
Voldemort lured 1 into the Dark Forrest and ate it whilst he was staking out Hogwarts that term.
@@MrStrats He only eat Unicorns, not Pegasuses!
stickers on the shields is beyond disappointing those things should always be printed imo
Agreed, especially at this price point - oof. I mean, how many different printed shields did Lion Knights' Castle get? I feel like 4 was not out of the question here lol
I am going to replace them with Black Falcon Shields anyway ;)
@@DoctorBrickzI like your style.
Agreed
Appreciate the ‘for science’ moment. Taking one for the team! 😂
I've got you covered xD
There’s something about new Madam Maxine that looks uncanny to me. Her ridiculously long arms and short torso reminds me of Salvador Dali’s elephants.
Yeah, the proportions get pretty wonky lol xD
For me it's the legs that make her look weird. I wish she had that dress piece again.
it doesn’t float but luckily the entire point of the ship is that it sails underwater in the books and movies
lol that's so true xD
Literally saw the first half a second and thought "wow that ship looks infinitely better"
I feel like the play for Madame Maxime would be the dress piece with the longer arms. But alas, I am but a simple peasant
I agree. She looks weird with the legs.
I'd probably swap out the legs too. I'm guessing the old and new prints will still work together pretty nicely
"If you're looking for a drier experience, the new model might not be such a bad pick" is exactly the kind of wit that modern journalism needs
I honestly didn’t expect them to make this set for a while longer.
Right? I think we had all given up hope lol! Really glad to see it though - it's gotta be my favorite of this wave.
Man, seeing this amazing ship makes me want a UCS-style Black Pearl from Pirates of the Caribbean so bad! The original set was already beautiful but, by the elder gods, I can’t even imagine how beautiful a $200-$300 ship would be. I can dream, I can only dream.
I'm surprised we haven't seen some random 18+ ship at this point from any theme honestly lol (at least not since Imperial Flagship) - but that would be so incredible! Imagine all the sails....
Great, I've been waiting for your comparison review! I will definitely buy this set, great sails for Castle mocs and my ship collection
Yes! It uses some awesome techniques that'll be great to incorporate into MOCs.
This whole wave is so confusing. Very solid designs but the fact that they did not parted the sets (like this should have been 2 sets but ship should have been even better) its such "new" lego way. Same with Troll set being pushed in biggest set while people would buy more sets if troll was in 40dollar set.
Im really dissapointed of lack of Playfeatures and space.
I definitely get what you mean. I really am not a fan of the Great Hall especially having a lot of unnecessary extra sets in it - really drives up the price.
I loved this review, man! Definitely do more of these comparative old to new design reviews when the opportunities arise. It is a fun insight to see what is better and what is not as good
Appreciate it! Love love love doing these comparisons. It's so fascinating to see how things have changed at the LEGO Group over the years.
It’s just so funny seeing the Ghast in the top right of the screen.
He's up there keeping an eye any everything xD
He's always watching you...
Since I've only ever built and played with Lego exclusively while in my bathtub (a secret I kept well hidden until today), I suppose I have little choice but to fork over the $200 for the 2005 model.
It at least will last a few more seconds before capsizing, and that's worth an extra $60 any day
@@CheeseyStudios I just hope it does better than my Gringotts set. 🤞
@@Malt0d3xtr1n Gringotts set actually makes a lot of sense, just pretend that the basement is flooded...
3 reviews in one!!!!
Oh h*ck yeah baby
As a kid I pored over the 'building the magical world' book (with the yule ball minifg), and the older sets just had something truly magical about them. This channel sums it up pretty well, but the vibrant colours, metalic plastics, secrets galore, and genuinely mystical feeling that each set had was conveyed even in the book (I'm too young to have bought any of the early 2000s sets). Seeing those sets in these videos always gives me a nostalgic feeling, because in my mind as a kid, those sets really were so mysterious and cool. I wanted all of them so badly.
Rebuilding them for this channel too has consistently brought me great joy. The new sets obviously have their appeal, but the classics will forever have my heart.
This is the kind of set no one expected but gave everyone a 😮 effect. Agree on the lack of room interior but it's still a really nice display piece. With a little discount it's an instant buy.
Even if it's not perfect, it sure is a beauty. I don't think you'll regret picking it up!
Great vid! Lego ships aren't my favorite, but it's really cool to see how the designers made this! I just wish we would get more chrome gold, but I understand why they don't use it lol
I wish we got more too. It's so beautiful! The chrome stuff really elevates any set that it's in.
The bathtub toy condition was a stroke of genius
i love the mentions of your older mocs. so glad you had a picture of it lol!!
Took me forever to find it lol - I think Pete Strege took the picture randomly at BW before we even knew each other lol!
I don't have the old HP ship but can't wait to get the new one ! Thx for the review ! 💕
No problem! You're really going to enjoy this set - it's a beauty.
Had the 2005. One of my favorite sets as a kid. Up there with Jabba’s Sailbarge. I just like fantasy ships I guess.
They're pretty sweet - I wish LEGO would do more!
I loved seeing your ship mock cuz it reminds me I just have to keep building and I’ll get better 😁👍
Exactly! Just takes lots of practice ❤️ Keep it up!
Damn that MOC is better than anything I've been able to make, and I'm 18!
Just takes practice is all!
I bought a mostly complete 2005 Durmstrang from a friend when I was a kid, but it was missing one of the black hull pieces so I had to make do with just the back half of the ship during play
That's an unfortunate piece to be missing, RIP. But hey, if you still had fun with it, that's all that matters!
11:10 You made THAT at 15!!?? Man, I think even many adults couldn't make such a cool MOC, myself included!
Well, I'm flattered! Just takes practice is all.
@@CheeseyStudios Then, you sure have practiced a lot :3
"If you need a bathtub toy, you gotta go for the now $200 ship. It's gonna be a great time."
-for a few seconds (rock counterweights not included) 👍
I'm still so incredibly sad it doesn't float lol - what a scam?????!!!!?!?!
The new Durmstrang ship makes a fantastic baseline for Pirate MOCs to convert into Carracks/Caravel type ships which were small narrow predecessors to the galleon with extremely high fore and aft sections like we see here. I might be picking up a few over the next year or so just for that… I can already tell this one’s going to be a real expensive one secondhand after it retires.
This will certainly be popular with HP and non-HP fans alike. It's been turning a lot of heads!
I’m not a HP fan at all and I got this the first chance I could lol. Gonna use it just like you said, as a Merchant Carrack that goes to and fro from my Eldorado Fortress and wherever else it needs to go.
@2:48 My guess is the 2019 Carriage expanding feature was aimed to suggest an expandable charm applied to it much like the tent in the Quidditch World Cup.
Yeah! Bigger on the inside - it works really well. After all, you'd have to fit the whole school in there somehow 🤣
The technique for the closed sails on your original moc is really ingenious and looks super natural. But man, you had a different Lego budget at 15 years old than me :O
I was a bit of a spoiled brat I fear, but I did have to take all my Harry Potter sets apart to build that lol
@@CheeseyStudios oh no, what a nightmare! :P
8:36 I love shield on the right with the dolphins (?) on it, makes me think of those orca pods in the Mediterranean that kept sinking yachts. Wild that it's a sticker though, especially for a shield.
Prints would have been fantastic here, but yeah, still love the designs. I could never pick out these details in the movie, but I assume they're accurate to the source material!
Great video!🐐
Thank you!
This set has great potential for pirate mocs
100% - there's some great techniques to learn from this ship!
Please fo the great hall next, i CANNOT wait for it to comw out
I'll do my best to cover it soon! The figures in it are amazing :O
@@CheeseyStudios Exactly🤯
I love this ship! But due to personal reasons i have sworn off buing HP sets. Still looks amazing
That's all good. I feel like you could still use a lot of the techniques once the instructions come out to create some other cool ships!
I have to smirk every time I see the old face prints - they are still hilarious to me. Love the shape of the new ship
Goblet of Fire 2005 gave us some of the craziest faces ever - Ron is so ridiculous 😂
hmm I really wish you showed how they connected the back at an angle, I can't find the instructions yet, and no photo really showcased that design solution. I need it specifically for a ship buid of my own :)
If I recall correctly, it's some angled Technic lift arms! Super sturdy and effective
So glad they made this set! Totally didn’t see it coming and they did a pretty bang up job. The new one is obviously a much better and more accurate (looks like a whole different ship from the 2005 version) but I don’t think you can beat chrome antique brass studs
I hope chrome makes a proper comeback one day, but I remain skeptical....
Oh wow I never realised the hinge piece was compatible with the clip until you flipped open the original carriage. Do the little friction nubs in the hinge pieces the same-ish circumference as a regular bar?
I believe they are compatible, I'm going to have to check that out for myself to confirm though!
The clip holds on to the bumps inside the hinge. It's not a very strong connection, but for keeping something in place it works
@@vaimantobe3034 aaah so it wasn't designed with that in mind?
Man I really dig that ship. It will likely be on my list when my wife starts asking what I want for my birthday.
To me, this feels like the set to get this wave. It's pricey for sure, but still my favorite by quite a bit.
I only want the new ship for a display set so im so happy with the design. Cant wait to get my hands on those new minifigures 😍
The figures are a DELIGHT
Grumptastic review.. great colors on the new one, but I wish it was a little wider. But it still looks good
It is a pity that it's so hard to fit anything on the new one, but man, it sure does look good
i got the 05 one about 85-90% complete at a garage sale a few years ago for like 10 bucks. i dont even like harry potter but its a great ship with some great parts haha
That's a sweet deal lol! It has so many awesome parts.
I’ve been waiting for a redo of this set
Right?? So glad it's finally here!
I really wish they printed the shield or recycled existing shields as a nod to the original one which had black? Falcons too.
I kind of regret making my durmstrang moc now that this is coming out
I wouldn't have minded seeing some of the many shields from Lion Knights' Castle appear here!
Nice video, but your moc at 15 is amazing for that age man, I know that my friends and me who are 16 could never make something close to that at our age (16-17)!
Well, I'm flattered! Just takes practice is all. :)
Your reviews are always my favourite. Keep it up! Also the correct pronunciation is Bo-buh-tawn rather than Bo-batt-ens :-)
I definitely considered that pronunciation, but I felt I would ultimately get roasted harder in the comments since they say Bo-batt-ens in the movies xD
@CheeseyStudios Please note that I built a new homemade product in your style, I will be glad to see your comment!
I'll be sure to take a look!
A new naval sub theme for Lego would be pretty cool. Sort of like City, but set before the 1900s so we can get different sized sail ships, steam ships, wooden harbours, some islands to explore instead of the typical underwater or pirate themes. Ships of the world, similar to the Star Wars starship collection, with chinese junks, treasure ships, spanish galleons, carracks, etc
I'm surprised we haven't got more 18+ ship models. I do feel something like that would be insanely popular! There's so much untapped ship potential
@@CheeseyStudios Few weeks ago I had to make a birthday present for someone and decided to do a "message in a bottle" and thought about adding a ship inside and if it would be possible to build it out of Lego...inside. Not like the ideas set though, where you build the bottle around it, but actually building the ship with tweezers and such inside the bottle. Now that would be a cool 18+ display set
After building the older 2000-era HP sets, I finally see it all in a different perspective. 2000's sets brought play-ability. As lego has progressed HP, they have approached accuracy in look and layout. I hope the day comes where I see these 2 concepts joined together more often.
Edit: I'm saying a lot of words. LEGO make some cool play features like you use to! It doesnt take more bricks to do it. Just clever thinking.
I do wish we'd see the two in harmony more often as well. There's been a lot of extremes over the years!
Weird fact about the Madame Maxime mini figure is that in the two sets she appeared in that year, the beauxbaton’s carriage and the hogwarts clock tower, both sets gave her different colored hair, with the Clock tower including the same dark brown hair as the new minifigure
Also what makes it even weirder it that both have “different” face prints where the only difference is that the eyebrows are the correct color to the hair.
I didn't realize they went as far to change that older face print too lol! That's crazy
How did you build that at 15, How did you afford it and how did you have the pieces for it?
I did have a job which certainly helped! Also I've never really kept sets together which means lots of spare parts lol
Do you prefer the mountain troll that comes in the new Great Hall or the original? Honestly they're both pretty cool
They both have their perks, but I do really love the original. The fabric clothing is such a cool touch
It'll be cool to see if the alternate build builders focus on this set.
I'd be curious to see what they'd come up with!
I’m getting this bc it just looks like a great ship. And will go
Nice with my fleet!!
It's a beauty, isn't it? Man, I wish we got more LEGO ships!
Absolutely on both!!!
Madame Maxime... you've shrunk! I actually think the new carriage looks really nice. Not so insultingly plain like some other remakes.
I'm actually glad the new ship is smaller than the old one, as someone who doesn't have much space. It's so eye-catching & detailed. Igor Karkaroff looks like a metalhead with the hair & face, just needs Tony Stark's band shirt & a guitar 😂. Krum & Barty look great, as well.
Thanks so much for the review! ❤
No problem! Glad you enjoyed. The size is pretty perfect for a display piece - you can fit that on quite the narrow shelf, or have stuff behind it too!
Target exclusive Ron. Just... wow
He is so cursed lol...
I gonna reuse that ship for my medieval world cuz it looks like a cog with some exaggerated features but it looks sooo good :3
I think this is gonna be very popular with HP and non-HP fans alike - it's such a beautiful ship! Probably my favorite that LEGO has ever made.
The new Madame Maxime looks so cursed! The long legs I can see working, even though I prefer the dress, but the arms just look off.
Yeah, there's something weird about the arm design. I wish they looked more like the original minifigure arms - the shaping is a bit weird.
@@CheeseyStudios I'd say that the arms separate from the torso too much. Normal arms touch the torso all the way down, while the big arms spread to the sides. Sorry if my explanation is weird. It's hard to find words for it.
Honestly I love those 4+ hull pieces. They create so much space for much less price
Right? I was just really hoping they'd float better lol xD I think this ship in particular is too unbalanced. Hopefully that 4 Juniors pirate one works better!
I don't know if I misremembering or not but in the original set wasn't there a secret compartment underneath the table in karkarov's office?
The table opens up, but there's nothing meant to be beneath the 8x8 plate
@@CheeseyStudios okay I couldn't remember Thank you though. I think when I was younger I assumed the letter that goes on the desk was supposed to be hidden in there. Just my imagination twisting how the set is supposed to be haha
As a kid, I would have loved the older set to play with. As an adult, the new set is more challenging to build and a great display piece.
LEGO has kinda grown up with us all in some ways! Glad have my childhood sets for my own kids to play with at least
It is such a nice display model, but I really miss the playability of the old sets, especially now that I have kids
Yeah... I'm glad I have my childhood sets still, because I know one day my kids will enjoy playing with those a lot more than modern stuff. I do think LEGO is leaning in a bit too hard to adult feedback and demands, and forgetting who should be their target audience - kids!
Honestly I don't mind the remakes that much, it gives new fans the opportunity to buy the sets that they missed out on and hopefully those sets are improved as well as lego sets keep getting more and more detailed (and also more expensive).
That's very true!
Not really a HP guy but am definitely a boat guy, so my opinion of it was initially very low. Amazing build and very true to it source it may be, but I still hold the opinion that it’s a bad boat, if a beautiful one.
What can I say - it's magic xD But yeah, not very buoyant I'm afraid
My god the long legs and arms are no cursed 😭
Cant wait to have them in tan to make a tall Yoda
Tall Yoda with helmet holes hopefully 👌👌👌👌👌👌
What do you think about lego seafood dishes?
It's been awhile since I last ate LEGO ngl czcams.com/video/yhOSUIKr13A/video.html
2024 ship gotta be my second favourite after the micro scale one in the hogwarts midi build
I totally should have included that little guy in the comparison haha!
I really want to get the durmstrang ship
It's a great set - I hope you're able to pick it up at some point!
This looks amazing but I would have preferred if they had made the carriage and it's minifigures a separate set so we could get the ship for 100€ instead of 140€.
Yeah, especially since it hasn't been toooo long since we got the big carriage. It's a pricey set for sure
im really only a fan of the stuff that look good. I recognize the charm of the old, but id take the new one any day :)
It is so much nicer looking, that's for sure lol
if they ever release an even longer leg, they're going to need to make the minifig knees articulate if they want the minifigs to fit anywhere hahahaha
That would feel so cursed but I get what you mean LOL
I can't even imagine what that would look like, but it would be useful lol!
it's like those technic pilots from the late 90's
7:02 looks like the maiden voyage was as iconic and successful as the famous Vasa ship from sweden.
lol sounds about right
Amazing
I've been so excited for this set - glad it lives up to the hype!
It reminds me of one of my white whale sets I would love to own… the SeaCow.
Ah, that set looks like so much fun!
This new sets are nice and Clean :[]
The designers do incredible work, that's for sure!
Looks like Madame Maxime came prepared for some arm wrestling with Rubeus
That would be a truly epic duel
Even though the play features are lacking, just the aesthetics blows the old one away.
It's such a gorgeous model! I'd love to try a custom that combines the best aspects of both
He makes videos come so fast
I do my best :)
Great video
7:18 😅
The old ship is better with details and more room, the new one looks better
Both carriages are awesome
No complaints on the carriages! They both ended up great for sure
The new ship should be its own set so all the pieces go into that model. The ship needs to be bigger and wider.
Beaubatons' coach should also be its own set. It should at least have four winged horses
UCS Durmstrang ship would have been legendary lol
Im not that much into Harry Potter but the set looks great, I get why you like Harry Potter
The designers do great work with this theme, no doubt about it!
*I ♥ The ship!*
I'm not a HP¹ fan. However I see this ship would do well with my lion knights! It looks so much like a medieval cog. With a couple of modifications it would be perfect!

I'm also not a Hewlett Packard fan. Had a printer from them at one point and it was the most unreliable piece of tech I've ever had...
Oh wait just read the footnote
@@CheeseyStudios hahaha
Regarding the fact that the original set didn't have sails,as far as I remember from the movie they traveled with the ship underwater(magic) and before Hogwarts they surfaced and you don't need sails underwater, btw I've seen movies 1-4 and listened to audiobooks 1-4 but I've only listened to book 4 only once(just for the record I haven't seen/listened to the movies/audiobooks after book 4 because it's becoming too dark for my taste if you know what I mean, and that's why I don't even plan on watching/listening to it because it's losed it's "magic"(A boy goes to a school of magic and wizardry and makes friends and has an adventures,4.movie/book is still ok but after 4. movie/book it gets unnecessarily dark and complicated )
It works just fine without sails in my opinion too! Nothing's gonna beat those old flags anyway.
Anyone think this set would be a good mod base to turn into a pirates imperial ship of some kind? Add some cannons and modify a few things and you’ve got yourself a flagship
A few people were talking about doing that! The set provides a really fun foundation to work with
@@CheeseyStudios i agree!
See I have waited for this set for so so so long and was so excited once I heard how many pieces they said was coming in the set but now seeing it I am very unhappy and yes I might get it just cus I always have wanted the set but I with out a doubt will take the old boat hull pieces and rebuild it my self that way it will look like an actual ship cus that isn't a ship I get it's ment to be short but for it to be that skinny as well is so messed up smh you have nothing but two spots to so called play in it's more so just a display set and that's it they couldn't even do the main room at the top let alone there isn't even a wheel a bridge to turn the ship like how or why is there not a wheel bridge
yes
It would have been nice to get more figures for that price. Five is sort of disappointing for the huge price tag. Another generic student from each school would've been appreciated.
Agreed. Durmstrang is just full of Krums right now from previous sets lol...
@@CheeseyStudios That ship is full of crumbs!
It's so pathetic that LEGO still hasn't made a full minifigure scale Hogwarts Castle yet. I want my $50,000USD set!
so true can't wait til lego sends me that one and I have to buy a whole new house to fit it in
I’m not a harry potter fan but I think I need that ship.
It's a beauty, isn't it?
I'm buying this ship just for parts. The sails will be great for a medieval ship.
Definitely! I sure hope LEGO makes more ships in the future.
Oh god I hope the stickers survived the bathtub D:
I think they're doing okay honesty lol!
You are a fun person!
lol I try my best!
In a horrible world there's always something cheesey to help us along...
I gotchu covered
Always appreciate these videos, gives a great look at the set without the “financially supporting someone who hates me” part of actually buying Harry Potter sets lol
I wouldn't worry about that. Even if everyone in the world buys Harry Potter stuff her life wouldn't change at all. She's already in the 1%. She's already gotten everything she ever wanted.
This franchise belongs to the fans, not it's creator. You only have so long to live on this planet. I would just buy and do what you enjoy.
My brother is transgender but he feels the same way as I do. He thinks there's no point in trying to avoid buying stuff you like just because the creator is a jerk.
Go buy the sets, play Hogwarts Legacy, watch the movies, etc. It's your franchise, not her's.
@@TheFirstCurse1 I totally agree! My sister’s trans and I am queer myself. I do think it is up to the individual and what they are morally comfortable with :-)
I'm happy to hear that I can give you a way to see the sets and still feel good about it! The LEGO designers do incredible work and I'm glad that we can all still appreciate that.
Thank you for this wonderful video.
The old ship is wonderful!
The new one ... just a huge disappointment.
They could hardly be more different lol!
Damn those shields should’ve really really been printed. That sucks
Yeah. They would have made for amazing printed parts! Shields don't feel right with stickers on them
Stickers on shields?! Oh dear!
These are dark times indeed
its the common issue of play vs display
Indeed it is 😪
I’ll be honest, I like the old one better
Aside from a few weird colors on it
It's certainly got its charm!
I think I may be in the market for a new bathtub toy
Two incredibly buoyant options right here, eh? xD
