    Honestly, it’s a little exhausting to get teased a theme or set I’d be interested in only to be thrown some $300 investment that would occupy an entire piece of furniture in my apartment. I wish Lego would do more in the $50 range for adult oriented sets.

    • @CheeseyStudios

      I hope that if the collaboration between LEGO and D&D continues that they'll focus on much smaller playsets in the future.

      Supposedly there’s gonna be a CMF series later this year but I do hope they’d do some more builds, especially if they make it the quality of some of the side builds in this where they’re not necessarily for play but look really nice

    My favorite part about the Minifigs (though correct me if I’m wrong) is that all of them have gloves and no skin-colored printing on their torso necklines, so you can swap the heads between figures as you please. Really neat and perfect for D&D character creation. I wish more sets did that, too!

    • @CheeseyStudios
      @CheeseyStudios  Před 3 měsíci +99

      Yeah! I got a chance to talk with designers about that, and that was very much intentional. They wanted you to be able to put pretty much any head on any minifigure and go crazy with the customization! I sure hope we see that in more sets too.

    • @TheCcjOf1997
      @TheCcjOf1997 Před 3 měsíci +32

      That’s great! It’s one of the most annoying things to me about building custom figs - you find the perfect torso but there’s a little triangle of the wrong skin color at the top, when they could easily have just left it out in many cases 😖!

    • @The_Blue_Otaku
      @The_Blue_Otaku Před 3 měsíci +5

      Speaking of D&D minifigures I was expecting a Barbarian, a Paladin or even a Ranger to be among the main crew of characters... Oh well I'll just make some using some already existing torso and leg pieces from Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and some Castle sets

    • @mrpersoonman
      @mrpersoonman Před 2 měsíci +2

      @The_Blue_Otaku fighter and barbarian are kind of interchangeable, at least ascetic wise. same goes for clerics and paladins but to a lesser degree. Ranger would have been great especially since it'd probably include an animal figure but who knows they might be saving that for later

    Why can’t we just bring back a castle theme? I’m tired of all the castle related things being locked behind a $300 pay wall. I just like to have a good castle and pirate theme again. I’m so tired of all the licensed stuff.

    • @CheeseyStudios
      @CheeseyStudios  Před 3 měsíci +192

      You know I couldn't agree more! LEGO's in-house themes has always been where LEGO is at its best.

    • @metroid767
      @metroid767 Před 3 měsíci +51

      This doesn’t solve the $300+ problem you’re talking about (yes I agree), but at least as licensed set, this is the easiest to ‘remove’ the license aspect. Just remove all the sidebuilds and minfigs and it’s just a castle set. Also as a celebration of DnD, this feels more of a genuine passion license than ‘quick we need to make Avatar toys! Quick, Minions is coming out! What’s the next thing? Gabby? Whats that? Who cares! Make it! Money Money Money’ THAT is the licensing mentality that needs to end immediately. One off licensed sets that come off with some genuine celebration and passion for the ip are a lot more tolerable, as it is more of a collectable rather than just straight merchandise! Also yes just bring back pirates and such.

    • @arno_nuehm_1
      @arno_nuehm_1 Před 3 měsíci +3

      Without the license it would just be a simple castle theme for kids. That's not the same.

    • @wanderingyeehaw
      @wanderingyeehaw Před 3 měsíci +14

      arguably, DnD is the least licensed theme we can get without it being unlicensed since DnD is all about story building and creating your own narratives, but I get the appeal of just wanting a medieval theme with less fantasy elements.

    • @oliverpuppetproductions8753
      @oliverpuppetproductions8753 Před 3 měsíci

      @@metroid767 to be fair, mostly every licensed set is "quick this is coming out!" even lego star wars came out because phantom menace was in theaters. dnd does seem unique as there isn't anything that big coming out to co-incide with the lego set. that's just how companies operate, they couldn't put out a line of sets based on 1980's comedy hit "airplane", because it came out 40 years ago. recency is how most companies make money.

  • @amyhiggins4225

    What annoys me about this set is that it could have been a great line with a Tavern set, a battle in the forest set, the gelatinous dungeon set, the tower set and the dragon set all at different price points and inculding figures to build up your party! Instead we're forced to buy a giant 360 dollar set if you want to have any of it. I really don't like the direction Lego has gone lately with making 1 off giant sets aimed at adults instead of a whole line of smaller sets like they do for standard themes

    • @piotr78
      @piotr78 Před 3 měsíci +17

      I think "one dungeon room, one brick built monster, two Player Characters, a little treasure" would be good for a midrange set...the kind I'm still used to thinking as $10 but let's be real here, that'd be like $20-30 nowadays. Or one player character and several minifigure scale monsters in some sets, like a handful of orcs or skeletons.

    Love the colors, visual power, adventurers, and brick built monsters. That Dragon may be the best ever.
    However, that price seems a bit steep for how hollow it is. (Hasbro has their hands in this.) The tower isn't even fully built up. And only 6 proper figs for $360 is ridiculous. Skeletons are a cop out. No minifig monsters; not even a Lich or some goblins? Shouldn't have to buy into the CMF series to properly fill this set up.

The mushroom guys are Myconid, the black lumps shown at 11:00 are probably supppsed to be Black Pudding (notoriously they divide into smaller ooze monsters when they take slashing or lightning damage), and the pink plant is probably supposed to be Violet Fungus!

    Be so good if they made buildable D&D game sets, like rooms you can buy and adapt.
    Could just do them myself but would be nice to get everything in a little box, having players make their own mini fig and win loot in a game to add to it would be so fun too.

    This is a nice set for the Dnd theme. But I hope it will be the only big classic Lego set.
    I had hoped for a type of dungeon builder set with plates that lock in (like this built but simpler). Where you can create your own dungeons, swap out stuff, add different enemies, loot, traps…
    The face swapping is a great thing that works for the theme. But a dungeon builder would have been great. Also just an easy thing to expand on with extra sets.
    Could easily make a character creator set as well to go along with it with the different races and classes. Doubt they’ll do it.
    Kinda set this is all we’ve gotten right now. Seems like the two brands mix so well with creativity being so important for both. Hope we’ll see more at a more reasonable price.

    This looks like a $300 set at best. Ninjago City subtheme is similar to price/size but comes with a TON of minifigs. This set has 6, same as $30 SW battlepacks.

    Looking at this set from the perspective of a DM (at least what you’ve shown of it), I think the people who translated it from the original idea to the final set couldn’t have done a better job. Even things that were probably unintentional, like the lack of detailing on the bridge, is exactly the kind of things that would happen in my games, where i would describe something in immaculate detail and completely forgo describing the thing right next to it. The build itself also has the same vibe as a lot of the dungeons i’ve ran, where parts of it seem completely intact and well maintained while other parts feel like the ruins of structures that were already ancient and decaying when they were built.

    I’m a huge D&D fan, but this set just doesn’t resonate with me. It just feels a little generic fantasy, IMO. The only thing that feels like right to me is the iconic monsters, and a few of the potions lying around the place. I wish they either made a bit more of a cohesive story (Throw in a little adventure module with it, written by WOTC. They did it for Nerds candy!), or just made an iconic set piece from an existing module. Currently, it just feels like a waste of the D&D IP. Build rocks though

    DnD would work really well as a set of four at various levels, rather than trying to cram it all into one big set. Follow the same four characters with different minifigs in each set (representing the new magic items they got), and start with a small set that's maybe a goblin or kobold raid for levels 1-4, go up to a larger set with Mind Flayers or a vampire attack on a tavern for the level 5-10, a bigger set still featuring a Beholder for 11-15, and then you throw out the Ancient Dragon for a big, several-hundred-dollar centerpiece set.

    I think, especially since it's in collaboration with one of Lego's chief rivals (Hasbro, who owns Wizards of the Coast), they weren't willing to commit to a full theme, and instead leaned on the Ideas submission as a one-time collector's piece. What I think they succeeded at was capturing both the spirit of the game and the core of Lego by making the figures fully customizable. And the play features they sacrificed are being replaced by a full playable D&D campaign based on the set. I think they felt like they couldn't skimp on details-- because let's face it; D&D fans are all about details-- but wanted to make it playable as well for that same audience.
    I don't play D&D and I probably won't get this set, but I love fantasy and Lego Castle so I will probably look for these pieces and accessories on PaB

    Unfortunately combining smaller cheaper sets often ends up in much less detail as in the harry potter modular green roof castle or the new daigon alley sets. I do like the idea of modular sets that are still very detailed tho, ie an inn similar in detail to the medieval blacksmith (which came with only 4 minifigures however). Amazing set love all the details. Seems fragile but the play features are all the hidden details and the play story not so much stuff like the trap door. Also regarding the price, LOTR Bard Dur is supposed to be released at about $100 more than this albeit with more pieces bit still!

    Seems like a lot of people are complaining about the $300 price point. Let me be frank - as a long time user of miniatures in my D&D, $300 is pretty standard for entry-level of using minis at the table top. I have spent WAAAAY more on Dwarves Forge over the years. Not to mention miniatures, set pieces, etc, etc. For 300 dollars, this is actually a pretty good price, IMHO, to get into using LEGO for your D&D game. Especially because you can simply merge all of the bricks from this set into your other LEGO bricks and make just about whatever you want.
    For those tight on budget tho - I strongly suggest going to flea markets and Goodwill stores. You can almost always find LEGO bricks and LEGO figs for super-cheap. People are always off-loading their LEGOs, because they amass a large collection and then out-grow them.

    Can the dragon sit above the bridge like it shows in lego's images? That honestly may be a make or break for me. I don't have room to display the dragon separately, or very flimsily balancing it on the bridge

      It can technically, but it's not super secure. Some small modifications to the castle could probably lock it in place

    Not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but for those that aren't familiar with D&D, the Red Dragon now looks like a reproduction of how Red Dragon's are portrayed in all of the official WotC art. I believe that Lego had to get final ok from WotC/Hasbro so that their IP is accurately represented in Lego form.

    I like the idea of D&D themed sets to use to form sets for a campaign, especially because using minifigs as minis is a fantastic idea

      People have been using minifigs for D&D forever - it's a perfect collaboration!

    I was NOT expecting the random Myconids in this set (the mushroom people)

    I don't get it, so on the lego website it said set will be available April 4th, today's April 4th I go into the website and it says out of stock need to backorder it which will take 60 days....🤦 also guess I'm missing out on getting that exclusive lego mimic chest from purchasing this set

      Classic LEGO blunder 😭 I feel like they add GWPs on backordered items, but that may be out of stock too now...

    I'm not too much of a DnD fan, but I really love all things fantasy! I am definitely getting this.

    I really love this set. I hope it leads to more D&D sets, maybe some smaller adventures would be nice. This seems like it could be a great ongoing theme.

    if were lucky, this could lead to a D&D line and LEgo will design some sets with more play features.

    The beholder looks really good. I would love if they just came out with a LEGO D&D range of smaller sets.

      Agreed. Some smaller sets could be so cool. Imagine all the different creatures they could make!
