Lego needs to release the "Build your own DnD party" set with bunch of minifigs and accessories for them. So the people can build their own characters and use them in tabletop games. :) It is really a shame the set doesn't come with game campaign included. Real missed opportunity imho.
It is included, you just have to download it!
Wait until september ;) a minifigure line is being made.
@@AD-ie5ie o Hell YEAH! :)
LEGO, hire this person right now!
THAT would be so awesome ! ❤
“Are D&D fans willing to spend this much money…”
Let me stop you right there.
Tell me more, I honestly have no idea about the amount of money D&D players spend on the game!
@@TiagoCatarinoit’s just like Lego fans, you have your casual fans who spend under/around $100 yearly. Then you have enthusiasts who have whole rooms devoted to the hobby. Then spend/invest hundreds in books, miniatures/models, accessories, tables etc.
I played dnd back in high school and college fell out of it due to not having the time to join campaigns. Now if Lego started releasing more affordable sets and included entry level campaigns that could be completed in a nightly I’d definitely purchase
@@TiagoCatarino Many players start off the game with only paper components or very cheap books. The only thing you TECHNICALLY need for D&D is a piece of printed out paper and some dice, if even that.
But “blinging out” your game creeps up quick. This is for two reasons.
1) The game is so time-intensive when you have a good play group. This makes it so that you’re willing to make it look professional and immersive with cool minis, painted landscapes, tools, etc.
2) It is basically no cost of entry. In the same way that free-to-play games get you to spend a little bit at a time (ultimately leading to more than a solid price with no micro transactions) after getting you in for free, D&D takes advantage of that same part of the market.
Basically, people like myself LOVE to make the game feel real using all 5 senses, and official WOTC products are plentiful because they know that.
Thanks so much for covering this set! As a LEGO fan and a tabletop gaming nerd, this sounds right up my alley. Now I just have to decide between this and my next $300 miniature-based board game!
@@forrest3491 I get you. When I was DM in old times, I was preparing tons of preps, including even music. It was fun as hell :)
There is only one disadvantage - it consumes so much time!
During the pandemic I started DM'ing a campaign and built all the player characters, villains and monsters out of minifig parts. It was perfect for customization and immersion. My hope is LEGO continues producing figs past this new minifig series and add-on small modules for extending the game.
Castle fans can NEVER be spoiled too much!
Indeed there could have been way more D&D like being a dungen under a taven with tons of classic D&D monsters... But no it's just a Lego Castle atleast to me.
There are like, 8 dnd specific monsters and a tavern that backs into a dungeon. So it does exactly what you asked for.
@@johnmickey5017 I mean most of those monesters are just normal Lego things like the lego skelenton for exemple and the dugen isn't the type most played in all edtions of DND.... Honestly it reminds me more of a high level player casle or low level player hub from the first few editions of DND then what most think of with DND from any eidtionj being a grid paper dungeon which they could have made be playable in 5e and the upcoming edtion.... Not have a seperate limited edition normal DND advature... Like it works for a second wave Halo set not a first set of hopefull a theme.
I cannot afford or justify anything over 100 bucks. So I'm definitely not being spoiled.
@@johnmickey5017 Ok just finisehed the video and your right brickbuilt and minifig they have 8 DND creatures) and yeah they did an ok job at doing what we are describing but just still feels more Lego's and WOTCs new creative direction then a Lego/DND set meant to showcase the TTRPG to Lego builders and be used in every session of DND... Like it being a sprawling dungen you play in/with for countless advantures would have been awesome... As apposed to a prop that only really the DM touchs though out a single quest is dispointing especly at $350 when it should have been $200 or so... Like I did a TT wargame MOC for nanofigs using mostly random pick a brick parts just as demo of using lego for TT games It worked out fine... And their are those who also have done similar things more recently for TTRPGs and for DND specficly... Like I said this is ok and works as a fun prop but not a practical game tool.
Ah yes, the Gelatinous Cube, a classic D&D monster! Think of it as a sentient, hungry blob of jello which is conveniently translucent so as to show off the skeletal remains of its victims as it slowly dissolves them.
Ah yes, nightmare fuel basically 😂
More importantly, it's also a 10ft x 10ft cube that conveniently fills up a standard 10ft-wide dungeon corridor and is conveniently _just_ hard enough to spot that you might walk straight into a living wall of acidic slime.
And as for why it (and other assorted D&D slimes, jellies, and oozes) exists... well, they're a handy excuse for why the dungeon is relatively clean and lacks all the junk the DM might have forgotten was left there by other players previously. OD&D even called them "the cleanup crew".
@@TiagoCatarinoit's also exactly 1 tile wide, which is how wide a usual dungeon corridor is; leaving u now room to escape as it slowly inches toward you, one square at a time lol
@@TiagoCatarinooh, there’s lots of good nightmare fuel in D&D. Anybody wanna tell him about how horrific an atropal is?
@@Gemini476 It would be awesome if the backstory is a wizard/alchemist created the Cube by modifying an ooze after being tired of dealing with the "heroes''" (more like ransackers, amirite) bodies that were left just lying around. The square shape was just genius, at least that's what the wiz said to themselves after casting Bigby's Hand to pat themselves on the back.
The bodies goes away, awesome gear sticks around. Profit. Crappy gear? Chuck it to your rust monster pet, Flaky. She's a young, growing "pup". Skeletons? When the Cube excretes (Everyone Poops) the bones the wiz turns them into the undead guards or finds other uses thanks to a handy Tome of Undead Soups (the bone soup recipe is chef's kiss). The wizard was efficient, to say the least.
I knew it was going to be a set inspired by it but had no idea they were going to make it actually a playable DnD game as well, that's crazy...
I don't even play DnD but now I want too...
Never played it either, but all the hidden features in this set made me smile, and it definitely got me interested in giving it a go.
Same here, I have never played DnD but looking at this set, I want to learn so I can appreciate and enjoy this set!
@@elpiloto100good start is with DnD podcasts. Highly recommend The Adventure Zone, that’s how I got into it
As a lego fan for 25 years, and DnD fan for 11 years, this is a day 1 purchase for sure! Genuinely the most hyped for a Lego set I've been for a very long time
same! so excited!!!
This is one of the best sets to come out of the ideas theme in a long time, i love the playability of the set too!
Indeed! I really liked the Polaroid despite the horrible pricing. This one stands at the top of Ideas at the moment for sure!
before one was better
It's also unique in the fact that it came out of a specific contest, rather than just a general submission. Lego and Hasbro knew they were going to do this collab for awhile.
Once again you win "most informative and informed video" award for this review. I have watched 5 youtube reviews on the set and yours was the most complete and comprehensive without being too long. Many thanks.
I do my research! Thank you for the kind words, means a lot :)
Not gonna lie, this is one of the best Lego sets of all time, like top 10. So much playability and displayability. Basically perfect
For real, as a fan of dnd and lego this is a dream come true
I would love to buy just the beholder. Scary and cute at the same time, and one of the most classic DnD monsters ever.
Just wanted to say that I kind of like the T connectors holding down the wings. Makes me thing of tendons/bones in the wings because dragons in fantasy source materials usually have sinews, muscles, and bones that run through the wings for support so the connectors work for me, at least in my own head cannon.
Agreed. Definitely better than the technic pieces that are usually used.
I'd love to see Character vs Creature packs, honestly.
So many interesting parts and fun designs, maybe modded for playability.
LEGO feels like such a perfect medium to craft and build all things DnD I think!
@@TiagoCatarino Yeah, Lego is all about creativity. And a common thing you'll hear online is the winner of DnD is the one who makes the most new rules. So DnD is also entirely creative. A match made in heaven, you could say
Supposedly come September there will be Battlepack(s) or CMF for D&D. Hopefully it does give the ability to mix and match to create custom heroes. Would love to see more humanoid monster minifigs as well.
@@TiagoCatarino There is quite a community of people playing D&D with Lego already :) r/LegoDnD for example.
As a life-long D&D player, I love every part of this!!! I'm glad the back is open, too. You gotta be able to turn the model around and see inside, get in there and do stuff. So good!!! Thank you Tiago!!! That red dragon is AMAZING! And all the little secret hidden parts. Like, I can see those myconid, mushroom things, in the bridge. But I did not expect the awakened tree!! Man this is so cool!!!

Who in their right mind would EVER want to scribble notes in that BEAUTIFUL adventure book??????
Desperate time call for desperate measures.
Can always scan and print fresh copies of those pages to write on 😂
As a DM, I love the detail in this model, but would never consider spending that much money for a terrain that could be printed through battle maps or described using theatre of the mind. That beholder and displacer beast would be incredible minis to use ngl.
I can only imagine how much money lego could make if the sold the individual monsters, and made pieces to build your own characters from. But that might put them in direct competition with WotC, so I won't hold my breath for that.
@@horrorfan117they have DnD CMF on the way!
That's the thing though- it's a Lego set first and functioning terrain second
It is not a tabletop material, it is a d&d themed lego set with a fun small game as bonus.
I've never played DnD directly, but have played enough games directly inspired by it, over the years, to be a fan. The set looks incredible. Tiago, you give the best reviews, going above and beyond to avoid spoilers.
since you can take it apart this would have been so cool if it was released as 5 small sets you could put together to make one big if you wanted to, or just enjoy the small set
Another shortcumming (a real design flaw in architecture world):
Remember, this is a PnP, with stats and variants of monsters to choose. So there were 6 sorts of dragons (1974): Green (gas), Red (fire), White (cold), Black (acid), Blue (light), and Gold (fire or gas). By round eyes and brickbuild wings, the original submission offer an option for a prefered dragon color (this calls Open Design principle!). But Lego did a Closed Design. Why not print its eyes on neutral (gray) plate? Or (if commit to non-open) offer 6 color packs.
That’s a bit extra, doubt many people go by this idea
Out of all the possible buyers for the set only one or two would actually appreciate that
I’ve been toying with the idea of using Lego to build D&D play spaces for a while now. I would enjoy a whole theme dedicated to this concept.
I was really impressed that the buildings could be split by floor and the roof easily removed. That’s a great feature for playability.
Check out the legodnd subreddit. Have fun
My gosh, that is delightful. If I hadn't splurged and bought the Lion Knight's Castle, I would absolutely buy this. But I don't think I can justify it as is. So I shall admire from afar.
The last few years Lego has been pumping out incredible sets. I’m always amazed at how much detail they are able to cram in and how difficult the designs of the sets can be.
Haha, that twist at the end! So creative!
I was unsure at first but the fact its an adventure makes me more willing to spend the money, i really hope they continue this as a theme with smaller sets that i can use in my actual dnd games, im planning to get the minifig blind bags so i have access to a mini of my character at all times rather than keep ordering off etsy
I DM'ed a very short game (only a few sessions) with my brother, wife and nieces, and we used Lego mini figures for our characters and I built a few arenas out of lego's as well. This seems like an obvious no brainer. So cool!
Using Legos for ttrpgs is a no brainer. It's surprising that Lego never partnered with Hasbro to make all sorts of DnD products to be used for playing.
Hey Tiago,
Just wanted to say i love the effort and love and dedication put into your videos
Whenever i am getting a lego,i always look at your vids
Thanks
:)
I love that they included cmf series, the set is really good tho the dragon could have been more like the briclink submission, but it’s good overall
Rest of the set aside, that dragon built looks spectacular. As a dnd and dragon fan, I might get that one
Thank you for displaying it next to the other sets I own/plan to get. Looks very good together with them (especially the market). And showing the booklet redeemable stuff.
Technic thingy next please, I'm dying to know more about b/ it looks really interesting and my first ever technic set (aside from some really small ones) could be a really interesting building experience
It’s really funny because for the last year or so I’ve been using lego for my dnd campaign and i am so happy to see official support for my use of lego
Not usually a technic fan, (prefer Adventurers, Pirates and Castle) but the working Solar System model does look awesome. Would love to see a review.
I gotta say this set looks absolutely fabulous and actually goes well with a lot of medieval sets like mentioned. Black smith too.
An entry level adventure it may be, but it’s an entry level adventure with an awesome and useable set piece! Most DM’s don’t have that level of terrain to use in their games and centering a game around something like this is pretty clever!
Thanks for the review Tiago! I’m not a D&D fan, but my sister would like this.
NEXT: Technic thingy for sure! I am really thinking about ordering the Orrery
Technic set next please
This set is amazing ... said as a Castle & D&D fan. Kinda a must-buy to share with my kids ... at the moment so many cool sets to get, as I still don't have the Viking Village, the Town Square and now this ...
Lucky man! I didn't think I'd be seeing a review of this so soon!
What levels is the adventure for? That can give an idea of it’s length, also level 5 characters should really not be going up against a beholder or dragon yet
Great detailed, informative, and objective review, as always! So glad you got this set early, as you are the top Lego reviewer and I was very interested in hearing you break this one down. I was put off by the original images, but your insights have moved me toward wanting to get this set. Thanks for putting this alongside some of the other castle and related type sets. Love seeing how they could go together! Thank you, sir!
Love the playability with this set, wish I was more into DnD, honestly, just a brilliant idea all around, you can take that and do your own thing as a DM.
Amazing set, and I'm not a D&D fan! I would love to get it because I love lego castle based sets like Rivendell and the Lion Knights castle and some of the march releases, but that price feels somewhat steep to me tbh. I really don't mind open-backed sets, I actually prefer them because I can just turn the set around on display and see all of the detail inside. And great review as always! I was curious who that black caped figure was that lego was keeping secret on the back of the box. I would love to see a Star Wars review next, but either technic or SW would be cool!
I must admit it looks a lot better in person and the scale, especially the dragon, looks really good! 😍
that dragon is absolutely incredible
This set is love pure. Of course it is expensive but for people loving LEGO and DnD this set is a no-brainer. Thanks LEGO and Wizards of the Coast.
Awesome review and never fails to steer one wrong or hold back! Thank Tiago :)
This is so much more awesome than I had ever hoped for. Fingers crossed that this will be in stores in time for my birthday and my wife will get my hints for it (...and not get annoyed by my constant hinting at this wish).
I'd never thought there could be spoilers for a lego set. This above and beyond my expectations :o
you haven't done a speed champion set in a while. great video! if i had the money id get this one, my family loves lego and DnD.
And I love the green dragon guy so much😭
That set looks incredible. I’m a medieval castle fan and the tower looks good to blend into a medieval scene. But I don’t think I’d get it. Primarily cause of price but also because of its size. After many other large sets, the size of Lego sets is getting tiring. I want to see more smaller collectible builds at more comfortable prices.
Agreed
We need affordable medieval sets! And in general
@@BrickHQ Mountain Fortress from Bricklink series 1 was sold out in less than 3 hours (cost $380, 30k sets produced). No, too many people still have enough disposable income to buy expensive Lego sets. You can bet if they made 50k sets, it would still sell out. That should tell you something. Lego knows that they can charge even $400 for this set and it will still sell well. That's the reality
@@palkisakumi8595 while there are people out there with big pockets, many people don't. Many people agree that there should be some cheaper more affordable medieval sets (and general 18+ sets)
Im running the lego adventure. i will need to expand the set in my vtt or use something else entirely since i have 8 players. but this video is very useful with me being able to take screenshots to study the layout and to make tokens with the individual monsters and lego figures. i had to keep pausing the video alot but great video and it really shows the set off well.
I am so excited about this, While lots of people have been running D&D with lego now its now 10000000% offical. I am so excited to see what sets they will come out with.
Thiago, thank you for explaining this set! When I saw it I thought it looked terrible. Now I understand that it is not a shelf model. Thank you! Although the price still seems too high to me. Maybe Ninjago Modulars spoiled me too much?
We used Lego for "the dark eye" when I was a teenager and my brother still uses Lego now for terrain in DnD, so I'm a fan and he'll probably be too...
Lovely set and lovely minifigs. The price is a bit spicy (especially since lego fans would have to source other heads to repurpose the minifigs - but no skin on the torsos is great! ) I didn't notice if there are any more prints besides the beholder eyes, owlbear eyes , displacer beast eyes and the mimmic eyes. I hope the 2x1 tiles with spells on them are prints. Those would make up for a great collection of spells for fantasy castle fans.
The point of the figures is just a reference to help you understand positions and orientation in battle and environments. Otherwise it can be hard to just describe the current locations of everyone relative to each other.
No, Tiago. Extremely wealthy castle fans with thousands of dollars to spend on sets have been spoiled. Most castle fans are still waiting for sets that are in any way affordable.
Just look at how Lego is doing financially. Even with all the price increases they are doing better and better each year. So no, it's not just few wealthy people buying, it's vast majority of people who still have plenty of spare cash
I’m not sure you know what “vast majority” means…
@@Colinmchapman in terms of Lego community (those who generally buy it, numbering in millions globally), I think that's pretty accurate. you have to start looking at Lego not as a toy, but as a sort of a "drug for adults" (hobby, "investment"), it's no longer a piece of boring plastic for small kids as it used to be 30-40 years ago.
So cool! I can't wait for this!
Oh I’m definitely picking it up on sale
Wow love this DandD set dragon and minifigs looks awesome great review 👍
Technic thingy!
I am LOOOOVING this set. Unfortunately I'm broke af, so I love checking out ur reviews cus you always go into so much detail in them, anyway- awesome job as always! ✨️🧍🫶🏻
I’m super excited for this set. Not surprising that many people are going to be interested in this from the D&D game aspect in addition to the excellent build and display. This set has something for everyone.
As a D&D player & DM, yes, news of this has reached the D&D community, there is a lot of interest. Even friends who aren't into LEGO but are D&D fans have pointed this set out to me.
I'll be getting the set and the CMF line later in fall.
Curious if the adventure is standalone or if you need other rules information to run it (Basic rules? Others?). Like if someone who is into D&D already wants to get this to show their group maybe it'd be a nice one-off adventure. Really like all the little secrets, quite a lot for a company that already puts fun secrets in bigger sets. No dice is a bit surprising, especially if it's an entry level adventure, maybe some production hurdle there? Lego's modularity already fits in with the custom nature of the RPG so I'm happy to see this, I hope they'll have less expensive stuff in this theme to experiment with. I guess minifigure blind bags may happen?
Fantastic Lego player character properties sheets and variant swaps! - But were ist the Lego dice?
Oh my…they even did STAT SHEETS FOR THE CHARACTERS?! This is such a cool set.
It was one of the two sets I was looking for this year (the other one is Notre Dame)
I'm a bit dispapointed on "the look" that changed since the original submission, on the other hand it feels quite complete, especially as designed to be actually played with in an adventure - although the dimensions are not that wide.
I'll go for the buy, and hopefully there will be additions to the D&D sets!
I’ve been dying to get this set ever since it was announced. Just bought it this morning soon as it was out :D
Technic thingy! 🟡🌏🌗
This was unexpected! I have never played D&D before but this is an awesome model.
It really is! Wish I had friends to play this with 🥲
2024 is the year of castle/Medivaltheme. We also will get 3 new medival theme sets in the bricklink series 5 in feburary 2025.
Hey quick question! Some sets only have online booklets. Does this booklet come with the set regularly or do I have to make it with a digital booklet since I’m not a lego insider member
Paper booklet is not included, you have to buy it separately or download digital one.
I like this set thanks for the review
thanks for the review, I like the set. Only the price that thew me off....but this video made me reconsider. Seems so nice. How many stickers there are in it?
I think I counted 5? Maybe six?
I'm buying. Just waiting if i have to do it on April 4th if the Mimic is a GWP with just this set or if i can buy it later and still get the mimic gwp with something else before.
They should do some lego stuff with Guide to Ravnica based set. We need more centaurs. (Mainly a dark stone grey body and dark orange tail.)
Also I actually have an official D&D off brand lego set seeming from around the time of 2nd or 3rd edition.
I was originally kind of disappointed that they didn’t stick with the original design. (Green Dragon wrapped around tower) But the playability of the set looks fantastic and the minifigures look so good.
wish you could buy the dragon separately
The box with minus, at 9:42. was that included?
I might buy this set once it releases
How was the building experience (comparing with Rivendell for example) ?
Unfair comparison given how Rivendell is one of the best LEGO sets EVER.
So yeah, not as great if you're hoping for something similar but still decent!
I will buy this on release day without a second thought.
I don't usually do this and of all the may sets I own this will actually be the second set (the first one being Baracuda Bay) that I want so badly that I buy it on release day.
I would like to see 30$ character sheet set for each class. The set is essentially a box/chest with class emblem that contain minifig and various accessory specific to each class. Think the HP house set but DnD
we need more lego- dnd collabs, maybe for already existing premade campaigns with a setline for all the important settings of the campaign
This is a very impressive set honestly. Next to the castle theme and LOTR models it will look great
I like it! I’m glad they are trying new IP’s and not just Harry Potter and Star Wars.
I cant believe im living in a world where a lego set can have spoilers
Lego drops the ball again. I had to wait until April 3rd to purchase this set, as it's my pay day. Already it was on backorder and the free gift gone. Yet technically, it wasn't even released to everyone yet, just insiders. How do you run out of stock and free gift before giving everyone a chance to buy?? Ridiculous.
I have been using LEGOs as minis to play DnD and other RPGs for years. Some of these very DnD specific creatures would be nice to get, but everything you need to play DnD with LEGO bits already exists.
The upcoming minifig series will be a nice boon to it all, though.
Was wondering if it was worth the 360€. It actually looks pretty impressive next to the lion knight castle. not as big, but it's without all the creatures which include a huge dragon
Jsut after they made it public, I started measuring the shelf and finding right spot.. ;)
The beholder looks really cool and I'm kind of impressed with just how many playable features have been jammed into this. I don't think the exposed back is too big of a deal breaker because in most cases this is less for display and more intended to run the adventure with. Definitely one of the more interesting ideas sets I've seen.
I think it's a deal breaker for pure LEGO fans who aren't aware of what D&D is all about.
All they'll see is a LEGO model with an open back that "should have been closed off" and that can potentially hurt the sales.
Im sure a 2x rebrickable version will be along soon to solve the open back of it, though its a very overpriced set compared to medieval market if you go by part's so that will limit this.. Lego really seem to enjoy pricing out their fans.
This set could have really benefited from the removable rooms that the latest Ninjago City had. Then it could have a closed back while also allowing the DM to remove rooms and show them off during a game
Damn, I knew I will be tempted by this but to be honest I was thinking it will cost much more - so instant buy for me. Super happy they included a campaign to play
If you could buy the dragon alone I very much would.
“Jell-o-tinuos Cube” 😆
i want this and the new castle sets so bad
