@@sirboredom1012 totally disagree. It has nothing to do with the actor. It has to do with the fact that Draco's parents literally INDOCTRINATED him with the idea that pure-blood families (such as theirs) are superior and the others must be treated as skum. They even had a say in his choice of friends: He was only allowed to befriend pure-bloods such as Crabbe and Goyle. They influenced every aspect of his life. Still think he's a genuine bad guy? I sure don't.

I think one of the reasons that the trio are not in the top tiers is just because we have closely read about most of their actions or emotions, we have seen the good and the bas sides (which is the case for most people, well, except umbridge) I feel. Characters like ginny and others are truly side characters so we mostly see figments of their personalities (plus given that the book is from Harry's POV, ginny is obviously gonna look better).

This is my hot take… but I think Ron was in the right when it comes the the whole scabbers and crookshanks thing, like yeah because we found it scabbers was Peter pettigrew then it was fine but they didn’t know that. And Hermione to me was being careless and didn’t bother about making sure crookshanks was away from scabbers and wouldn’t listen to Ron when he was concerned about his pet being killed. Yeah Ron might have took it too far, but I think he wasn’t in the wrong if you don’t think of him as Peter pettigrew, it’s normal to be upset.

    • @joeyjerry1586
      @joeyjerry1586 Před rokem +147

I completely agree. The worst part is Hermione is perfectly aware that cats chase rats and so is perfectly aware of what she’s doing when she has Crookshanks around when Scabbers is also around and dismisses any sort of near murder of Scabbers as natural. If that’s the case, why the fuck would she bring crookshanks around.

    • @clover2739
      @clover2739 Před rokem +102

@@joeyjerry1586 exactly… like Ron has his moments of being mean for stupid reasons because he’s an angsty jealous teenager. But his feelings with the scabbers situation are completely justified, and if it was the other way around and it was Hermione’s pet and Ron was being dismissive about it. I 100% bet people would be on Hermione’s side and Ron will be seen as the bad guy. Like didn’t Hermione also bring crookshanks to the boys dormitory? And all Ron wanted was Hermione to apologise or actually do something about crookshanks to stop him going for his pet. The fact that scabbers was Peter pettigrew makes people go like ‘well Ron was in the wrong!’ But that doesn’t change anything for the actual argument. Hermione didn’t know anything like that she was just allowing her cat to do what he wants without consequences and didn’t care about Ron’s feelings. Plus Hermione that same book put down lavender’s pets death just because she doesn’t like divination. She’s a grey character but she wasn’t the nicest in that book either.

They cut out a lot of awful things he did such as laughing at Cedrics death and instead made him look sad while Dumbledore was acknowledging Cedric. They also show him being depressed from the start of the 6th film while in the start fo the 6th book he was bragging about his task and he was rarely shown bullying other students. The movies make him seem more sympathetic to me.

I was very satisfied with Malfoy's character. I feel like he was able to move on from his past, which I do think he deserved to be able to do, but I also don't feel like he was over reawarded.
Like, he didn't get this big, grand redemption arc and become one of the hero's.
He was just able to mature past his ways and live a relatively normal life, where he hopefully didn't pass on any of his previous beleifs to Scorpius.
It feela very realistic. Sometimes bad people change, and are just able to live. Some people may think it's unfair, some think they deserve more; the point is, it happens, and all we can really do is accept it.
I'm glad Draco didn't go full evil, and I'm glad he didn't die in some noble sacrifice that was meant to magically redeem all the shitty things he ever did ( Or else we would've ended up with Albus Severus Draco Potter 🙄). I'm glad he just lived normally.

Luna goes in the best: Harry even named his daughter Lily Luna Potter. He named her after Luna because:
In Order of the Phoenix, Luna is one of only a small handful of people who support Harry and believe Harry when he tells the truth about Voldemort’s return.
Luna fought with Harry and his friends in the Department of Mysteries, showing her bravery and loyalty.
After Sirius dies, Luna is calm and comfort Harry at least a bit when even Hermione can’t. Harry learns Luna lost her mom when she was 9 and at this point Harry and Luna become kindred spirits who can understand and relate to each other because of their common experience of loss. Harry actually remembers now that Luna can also see thestrals.
In Half Blood Prince, Luna is of the very few D.A. members who actually responds to Hermione’s summons on the night Dumbledore dies, again showing her loyalty.
In Deathly Hallows, for as long she can, restarts the D.A. with Ginny and Neville and becomes one of it’s leaders,
Luna gives a very moving speech in tribute to Dobby after Dobby dies. Here, Luna shows her sense of respect.
Harry sees the portraits of himself of his friends that Luna has hanging in her bedroom with the words friends that she had painted. Harry would have been very moved by that.
After the end of the war, when Harry was tired and unwanting of attention, Luna created a distraction long enough for Harry to get his invisibility cloak so that he can move freely and peacefully. In this moment, Luna understands what Harry really needs and helps him get it.
Holistically, Harry views Luna as loyal, kind, respectful, and understanding.
Harry and Luna never had a fight or falling out, this proves how strong, meaningful and genuine their friendship is.

If you think about it Harry is one of the most amazing character in the entire series, and he's never given enough credit.
He forgave Snape and Dumbledore. I dont know how he founded it in himself to do this. i mean he wasn't treated fairly by both. He was used as a tool for the "Greater good" by Dumbledore and Snape let that happen. They didn't deserve his forgiveness.
His attitude toward Pettigrew is incredible. You never find Harry as furious with Pettigrew as you would think. Harry despises Bellatrix. He knows the difference between someone like Bellatrix( saddist, crazy) and someone like Pettigrew.
He tried to pull Peter's metal hand from his throat. This is the man who betrayed his parents and was now responsible for the rebirth of the Dark wizard trying to kill him.
He uses Expelliarmus on a death eater trying to kill him because he didn't want him to fall from his broom.
He even manages to sympathise with Voldemort on some level. Dumbledore himself is surprised by that.
    He returns the elder wand.
He goes back to save Malfoy from the fire.
And yet he doesn't come off as an insufferable do-gooder. Rowling makes him so real.. He is jealous on Dean and Cedric, he has fights with Ron, he laughs at Fred and George's joke. He finds Hermoine exasperating at times..
He is the perfect hero, moral and ethical, but not so much so the he seems something out of morality play of medieval times. He's human- a flawed one but having a good heart.. That's what makes him real.

He could be so insightful. But he wasn't perfect, he made mistakes and he wasn't some child prodigy. He had strengths and weaknesses. Some things he was good at, others he had to work harder. He wasn't a genius like Hermione, but he had a lot of resourcefulness and street-smarts. He was the perfect balance of human and relatable, yet at the same time heroic and inspiring.

He tried to tell Neville, Luna and Ginny not to come with him to the Department of Mysteries, and he tried to tell Ron and Hermione not to join him on the horcrux hunt.

What pissed me off about Dumbledore was how secretive he was about everything up until the end. Why? did he think noone except him would understand or what? The fact that everything happened to work out in the end was pretty lucky. Like imagine if Snape died before Harry took the memory and never learnt that he had to sacrifice himself, or literally anything in 7th book failed during their quest to uncover what the hell Dumbledore wanted. Harry, Snape and most of his other friends proved themselves as capable and loyal time and time again and Dumbledore still acted like they just met him, and didnt deserve any meaningful insight. I would understand if maybe he was betrayed somehow before. But I dont recall anything of the sort. Pettigrew betrayal was betrayal of his friend group, not Dumbledore. Other people like Grindelwald seemed more like a value disagreement than betrayal. So if he didnt have any experience with big betrayals and his supporters proved to be loyal and competent, then only other option is a god complex to me. That he really just naturally felt like he had a big plan and people around just wouldnt understand, they could only get some pieces and be slowly lead to correct actions.
On the other hand, he was a great character. I wouldnt place him to bad tier either, but I agree that he had flaws that were just frustrating to read. Like jesus, when I read the 5th book. Why not explain to Harry why he needs to learn oclumancy at the beginning.
"You see Harry, when you had a vision with Mr Weasley, that was actually view of Voldemort possessing a snake, so you saw into his mind. We fear that this is a 2 way tunnel. For now he is probably not aware of this connection but soon he might try accessing your mind, or give you visions that are not real, torturing someone else you like, to trick you. So please, you have to learn to close your mind, and any time you have a vision just bring it up to me or any other order member like Professor Snape or McGonagal"
There. It would save tons of mental problems that Harry had and maybe even Sirius.

"Unrequited" is an important word here because Lily never knew Severus had feelings for her and they were "friends" for six years. Severus was not a shy person, if he wanted someone to know how he felt about them they didn't stay oblivious for long, the fact that he never spoke to her about his feeling shows that he valued their friendship more than any romantic tryst.

    Dumbledore is my favorite character.
It's just that he is so flawed and he knows it. He set up Harry to battle Voldemort and you can say it's manipulative, but I thought more of it that he didn't have a choice and he felt that he alone would take the burden to send a boy to his death. He always made the hard choices even if he didn't want to do it (and I believe he felt terrible for Harry and hated himself for it).
Dumbledore feels like a tragic character to me, he thinks he deserves to be punished and would always burden himself and letting others out, and when someone found out they would hate Dumbledore, just as Dumbledore himself thinks he deserves.
Oh and btw...... I really don't like Neville, always founded him annoying..... Truly my least favorite character (next to Snape if I think about it).

I also think Sirius is not given enough slack. He was tormented by dementors in Azkaban for 12 years and labeled as one of the worst people in the wizarding world. He was framed for murdering his 2 best friends and their child, something he would never do. Sirius has so many great qualities. He was fiercely loyal, willing to kill or die to save the people he loved, and he willingly risked himself multiple times for Harry in only a 2 year span. He escaped Azkaban just to find Harry and be a godfather to him!
As for his treatment of Snape (he didn’t really bully anyone else in the books), remember that Sirius came from a family of dark wizards and defied all of them. He was therefore very much biased against dark wizards, which Snape showed signs of being. Is that really such a bad thing? Think about how many other kids were raised by dark wizards and took their prejudiced beliefs! Sirius actively defied them as a child and bullied dark wizards in retaliation instead. He’s rebellious in the best possible ways.
He’s one of my favorite characters for sure, even if I understand the gripes Molly and Hermione have about him. I also understand the movies portrayed him in a far more positive light, particularly the fifth movie where he was such a great role model for Harry. One of the areas where I think the films beat the books.

Snape is my personal favorite. He's fascinating, complex, entertaining, and the entirety of The Prince's Tale is a perfect plot twist that recontextualizes everything that's come before and makes you really think about Snape's actions throughout the series. He's not exactly a good person, and his pure hatred of Harry just because he looks like James(and probably reminds him of the loss of Lily) is absurd, but he's nonetheless an intriguing character to read about and watch. Alan Rickman's performance is equally phenomenal, and elevates the character.
Yeah, Wormtail is pretty terrible. I don't like evaluating characters based on the morality of their actions, but Wormtail kind of drops out of the story after he helps Voldemort return. He was bound to be eclipsed by more powerful people once Voldemort's army grew, but he only makes a few appearances between Goblet of Fire and Deathly Hallows.

What would you call it then? Cuz it certainly is weird. Like, when a girl get MARRIED to someone else, it is already overdue for you to start looking for others. He was a bit obsessed. He was too smart to do anything about it, and I assure you he wanted to get her back, but he knew that there was no way. Perhaps he had given up on her being with him. That still makes it pathetic. Look, he was not sad in the slightest for setting a death sentence on a child, it was only when it affected THE ONE person to ever show him kindness (because he was a terrible person), that he actually cared. Even then, it was ONLY about her.
Everything he did in his life, he did for this girl, that didn't actually like him in any way after an incident when they were 15 years old.

@@filip_aleksander_moen In my opinion, I personally think that's the purest shows of love and actually more sweet when you've worded it the way you did: Snape did everything he did, because he loved Lily.
Not because he wanted her to be with him.
Because he wanted her to live.
Literally, what benefit was there to saving Lily *and her family* if he wanted her to himself - nothing.
I don't see why doing an act of love, and not accepting anything in return, should be viewed as a terrible thing.
It's literally the one selfless act this terrible, terrible man commits.
I mean, what would you rather want him to do, “Oh? Lily Potter? Nah, it's cool, fam. She rejected me, and as a completely healthy individual that's able to move on, I'm totally capable of smiling as you slaughter her. Make sure to teabag the husband on your way out. Really just pants his corpse to be found later.”
Obviously, that's an extreme strawman, but essentially, that's what it sounds like you're arguing for, letting Snape's most defining act to either come out of nowhere or for him to do nothing at all. The former would still have fandom painting Snape as an incel simp, the latter would have deprived Snape of his depth.

I just think that the fact that he has this ONE person in the world, as basically his only reason to live, is really weird.
I admit I worded it kind of harshly in the last comment. I am just tired of people redeeming his character because of that.
Love, in and of itself is a beautiful thing. But just because somebody's love life is so limited, it literally stretches to ONE person, does not necessarily mean it is some inhuman levels of love.
With that said, I think the misunderstanding is with my definition of obsession. In my opinion, he is obsessed with Lily. That does not mean it is hurtful to the people around him, but it is kind of destructive for someone to only care about 1 person.
If living for ONE person even after their dead is not an obsession, then I might have misunderstood the word :)
The "pathetic" thing, is not the love for Lily. It's just his incapability of loving others, to the extent of him only actually wanting to save Lily to begin with. Harry, and James are useless to him. He was full set on having Voldemort kill a baby, until he found out that the baby's mother incidentally was THE ONE person he was capable of caring for (maybe except Dumbledore).
As long as we can agree Snape is not a good person, and DEFINITELY did NOT deserve Harry naming his child after him, I don't think we really disagree :D

@@Kat_tea well, if a girl you love from the depth of your heart marries a boy you hate from the depth of your heart. You probably couldn't imagine what that feels like.
I'm not saying Snape is a good man. He loved Lili not James, on contrary he hated him and Harry bcoz he looked like James and also had his personality a bit.
And his redemption is more than enough for Snape, he was a dick to Lili when she was alive, after her death he protected Harry bcoz he's her son. That's unconditional love, but one can say it's a border-line obsession.

Honestly, even though Morgan was right about who Dumbledore was, it's why he's one of my top 5 characters in the Wizarding World.
He has a story that's full of regret, mistakes and trying to make up for them while also using his brain to pull the strings to ensure victory over Grindelwald and eventually Voldemort, even after he died.
Also, it's been clear to me now that Snape is one of my least favourite characters. I mean, a grown man who bullies and embarrasses children, especially Harry, as well as holding onto past grudges and never letting go of his stalker love for Lily is just too much. Yes, he's brave, but that doesn't automatically mean he's good, any awful person can be brave.
With Hermione, she can get really annoying. I know that if I went to a school with her, I wouldn't be friends with her. The most annoying part for me is her unhealthy desire to be the best and to be always right about everything.
With Minerva, she'll always be my number 1 favourite character, even when she does things like take away an absurd amount of House Points. Her moments demonstrating her care and affection more than make up for that for me.

Speaking of Merope, love potions are one of those aspects of the HP universe where you step back and wonder "How is this legal?" It's literally a date rape drug, and it's also basically the Imperius curse in bottled form (and it's a bit more limited to what you can make the victim do with it). It's legitimately insane that people are allowed to have it, make it, and sell it openly.

Malfoy is a tragic character. He put up a facade that he was a bada$$ and evil and would kill for the cause, but in the end he was just a product of his environment. He was made to believe he was better than everyone by his parents. As for his prejudice, he had that drilled into him since birth. You can't fault him for believing it. He was just a child. But when it came down to it he showed his true colours. He could've turned to the dark side but he didn't because that's not who or what he truly was. He wasn't evil, he was just scared for himself and his mother and father.

If you think about it, it makes a lot of sense that the trio are all in the mid tier.
they are essentially the three main characters, so they cant be as perfect as some of the other side characters. the story is focused on them so they need realistic flaws that balance out with the things that make us love them. its how main characters should be written, as much as JK pisses me off she was a damn good writer.
kinda cool you automatically recognize their flaws and dont put them as perfect just because they are the main characters, I really respect that.

I disagree with Dumbledore’s ranking. He has flaws but that’s what humanizes him and brings home that even the most powerful wizard of all time has moments of weakness and bad judgment. But despite it all, he dedicated his whole life to helping others. I would rank him in Really Good tier. But other than that, I agreed with nearly everything else.

I respect your opinion and you're mostly right, but if you are ranking this tier list on how fun they are to read. I'm genuinely surprised Dumbledore is so low, I personally think his dialogue and actions are super interesting to read. Then again it's my opinion and you're entitled to yours, good video!
