Dude, is it normal to accidentally scratch the alu plate while pulling a switch, not often tho

pov: the switch is still inside and it feels like its bolted down you pull it out after 4 hours only to realize you broke a pin

I have a gamakay k-66 it's hotswap yet doesn't come out when doing that???
If you're reading this, is there any good switch puller i can use? My puller is always bending which also destroy the clips of the switch which leads on me screwdriving the thing just to remove it

Extra tips, some keyboard (especially the cheap ones) usually takes extra effort to pull the switch out.
You need to make sure your keyboard is hot swappable too

That happened to me four times. I have no idea how to get my switches out. It’s like they’re bolted down and glued in there.

Make sure the top and bottom are coming out at the same time. You don't want to pull the switches out at an angle.
Can ANYONE help?!? I have a Corsair Strafe RGB MK.2 keyboard and i am having the WORST time getting switches out. I have the Cherry MX Silent switches and bought a lube kit to lube everything up after 6-7 years of intense gaming with it and CANNOT get these gahtdayum switches out of this keyboard lol. Do i need to take the back screws and everything out? Or should I just be able to pop switches out??? Feel like Its almost not hitting the tabs that unlock it, but i tried 5-8 keys before giving up because i felt like i was about to break something
The switches in that board are not hot swappable. You cannot remove them without de-soldering.

Thanks for this. My Keyboard is a Red Dragon Horus. Great keyboard and nice and sturdy too. its stock switches are put in sideways for some reason, in regards to the tabs. your vid helped me realize that where the instructions with the replacement switches that red dragon doesn't do anything other than say "properly pull out the switch"... ooookaaaay, and the illustration has it vertical like what you're showing, but, they're actually sideways.

You sure that's the Switch puller? The plastic ones are usually for the keycaps

the pins on your switch should be lined up with the holes in the board
@CaddacTech thx for the answer. The problem was that the switches are symetric on the backside. :D It seems to be not important for the installation because now it works. :)

the first time you take out a hotswap switch they're incredibly hard to get out. like, annoyingly hard. use multiple tools to wiggle it and then do this

You can. Just be careful as they can break off. I bend them accidentally all the time and I just use some tweezers to fix them.

You know what's better advice since not all mechanical keyboards have the same switch design? Buy a proper tool. The one that came with your keyboard is probably crap.
The different types of switches refer to the pins, not the way they mount to the plate. Almost all hotswappable keys have the two pins and the way I describe in the video is accurate.
@@_Caddac I didn't say the way you describe wasn't accurate. I said better advice would be to get a proper tool. The fact is a lot of the ones you get with your keyboard damage the switches as you pull them out because of poor/cheap design and even if you want to pull the switches out straight, the cheap tools don't really allow it because they are insufficient at depressing both tabs as you pull, usually due to the metal being too thin and slipping off the tabs.

The Ducky One 2 Mini keyboards do not have hotswappable switches.

You can try. It won't be very easy if you can't take your switch out. I'm sure there's a video out there on ways to lube non-hotswap switches.

It depends entirely on your switch type. 205G0 is the most common.
