Seen 5/10 on my very first audition. the "singer" wasn't even humming... she was BELTING! and she sounded sooooo good. i got insecure and 100x more nervous than i already was. i tried so hard to calm myself down saying "it's okay. everyone's different. you prepared something. just do your best on that." i remember thinking i don't have a chance lol
I remember auditioning for legally blonde. This woman came in a full costume, hair and makeup done, and was GLARING at every woman who came in the room. I just wanted to say "honey this is community theatre calm it down"
Number 11: “The Hater” The Hater is known for looking down their nose at everyone else in the audition room. The Hater sees themselves as above the other actors, and comes up with dehumanizing nicknames for them . The Hater is prone to judgement and cynicism. Often, The Hater is annoyed by other people existing. If you are over prepared, under prepared, breathing too loudly, stretching, or even being too friendly, you are sure to annoy The Hater.
so fun! haha! i loved this! and yes, we all do some of this so emphasizing the way we do it (subtly, responsibly, etc.) and encouraging basic awareness is really useful :) Sometimes I've been an "informer" when someone directly asks me what they asked for when I walk out the door (awkward!) What do you suggest? b/c others are listening/watching and you don't want to see "withholding"...
Thanks for watching Madeline and for your question! If someone asks you directly, feel free to answer and be your authentic self. Just be mindful that maybe everyone in the space may not want to hear the answer.
I've definitely been the informant before, its mostly part of my overall post audition anxiety, when I really should be trying to distance myself from it and move on to wait for callbacks
Is there an appropriate question akin to “what are you up to” that doesn’t force people into an awkward resume scenario? Should you leave it at “how are you?”
