    I think you're right about electric motorcycles. there are two things holding back electric vehicles. The infrastructure (gas station replacements) and range. For electric bikes, especially like you're describing, range is the only issue. Once you can do a full day of riding on one, they'll start to take off.

    I ordered a Lectric XP folding e-bike, 20”x4” fat tires. Also a class 3 (ships as class 2, but can be bumped to class 3). That is, maximum speed is 28mph. I like the idea of two hub motors. Your frame looks a lot friendlier to the typical locks folks buy for bikes. Hope you have a few good ones. My bike is scheduled to arrive next week (darn it it’s a long weekend!). I was fortunate enough to get mine for $900 w/saddle bags (panniers). Mechanical disc brakes though. Like your headlight. Hate our little puny bell. I will be getting a light, a better horn, a disk brake lock (or 2), along with my Liteloks that I already bought. I caved for a mountain bike style helmet. At 25+mph, I figured I’d be prepared for that other guy causing my demise.
    As far as “real” mountain bikes go (silently through the night) - eventually I’ll get me a Zero FX-S dual battery street legal enduro style motorcycle. I hope.

      @jackdallwitz5086 Před 4 lety

      Paul Labossiere I doubt it. The hubs would have to freewheel, otherwise the unused hub would create drag when riding in single wheel drive mode. The amount of energy you get back is barely worth it in any case, since it’s limited by the battery’s safe charging rate - typically way lower than the discharge rate.

      @@paullabossiere5239 Probably, but wrangling speed controller firmware is well beyond me. The limiting factor is the rate of charge, not total capacity - lithium batteries can typically be discharged way faster than they can be charged. I've wondered about using regen braking to charge capacitors to get around this, but again, the electrical engineering it would require is beyond me. Also, you need to be running direct drive motors, which this bike doesn't appear to.
      There's a good overview of why most ebikes don't use regen braking here: czcams.com/video/k4Oe4hv4QpI/video.html

    I'm wondering how they figured out the all wheel drive function. I remember watching pawn stars where the guy from ricks restorations redid a old offroad motorcycle that had these outrageously huge tires on it that could cause it to float so you could for instance "carry" it across a river, and each time you turn the handlebars it would disengage the front wheel drive mechanism. They stated that the reason for this is that anytime you turn the handlebars it causes the front and rear wheel to rotate at different speeds and it is a matter of physics with any bicycle or motorcycle.

    You could have got a Rad Rover for $1400 it is adult size with 26" x 4" tires. Larger tire diameter gives a smother ride. Not 2 wheel drive but that is not really necessary. That extra motor just runs the batt down faster.

      Wheel diameter might be the caveat for some considering their selections - whether electric or gas-powered - as it is, at least in my locale, the determining factor for taxation and licensure / registration versus something that isn't.

    As many have already pointed out the throttle is on the wrong side and this is a deal-breaker for me. Not because I couldn't learn how to use a left-hand throttle but because it shows the designer either wasn't aware of the sort of "standard" that exists for throttle placement or was aware and chose to go non-standard anyway for some unknown reason - even worse.
    It makes me wonder what other design decisions are non-standard or poorly thought-out; perhaps the designer routed the brake lines without knowing the standard way, used undersized hardware, ignored the standard for bushings or washers. There's no way of knowing but the non-standard throttle placement is a red flag.

    As a bicycle rider, the only down side I see is that when peddling, the seat is so low that decent 'power' efficiency of your legs (too short a distance) is not very good. It would be close to perfect if the seat height was adjustable. I realize that most won't "peddle" much, but I would, to conserve battery for longer distances.

    The rear-wheel and 2-wheel drive would appear to otherwise tow a sled full of a successful hunt back to the truck quite well with the benefit of keeping hunting grounds quieter for hunters' efforts in the area if it weren't for particular seasons' extreme cold temperatutes in farther Northern / Southern latitudes or colder elevations -- keeping the lithium batteries from having their best, longest life for the application.... Maybe for all other climates, mount a scaled solar charger to the frame, throw on a secondary battery pack and a break-make SPDT/DPDT source switch that'll enable charging for the battery that's not currently in use?
    Curious.... Any street, studded or paddle-tire no-flats with wheels that are quick-change/tool-less options? I don't see ABS being too far out for the braking systems on these.
