Well, Git It ! - Tommy & Jimmy Dorsey

Not sure where 'Dorsey Stomp' came from but it is 'Well,Git It! ' with some wonderful Charlie Shavers and the other trumpet could be Lee Castle. From a TV show called 'Stage Show' that went out around 1954.
The Dorseys reunited on March 15, 1945, to record a V-Disc at Liederkranz Hall in New York City. Released in June 1945, the disc contained "More Than You Know" and "Brotherly Jump". The songs were performed by the combined orchestras of Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey. They reunited again in 1947 for the film The Fabulous Dorseys. In 1950, Jimmy disbanded his orchestra and joined Tommy's band on a permanent basis. On May 23, 1953, the combined orchestra made its television debut on the Jackie Gleason Show. Starting in 1954, they had a network TV series, Stage Show produced by Jackie Gleason. Elvis Presley made his national television debut on their show in 1956. Charlie Parker, who as a fledgling alto sax player expressed an admiration for Jimmy, died in front of the TV while watching a Dorsey Brothers' show. When in November 1956 Tommy died in his sleep from choking on his own vomit, Jimmy, already desperately ill, carried on for some months with Tommy's silent trombone displayed on stage, until in June 1957 he succumbed to lung cancer.
Jimmy and Tommy appeared as the Mystery Guests on the October 16, 1955 airing of What's My Line?. They were guessed by Dorothy Kilgallen.
In 1996, the U.S. Postal Service issued a commemorative postage stamp in honor of Jimmy Dorsey and Tommy Dorsey.

Yup, that's Lee Castle trading off and harmonizing with Charlie. Pretty neat to hear Charlie doubling TD during the latter's solo, too. Also great to hear Jimmy playing what was originally Heinie Beau's clarinet spot. That's some energetic treatment of this Sy Oliver classic!

"Well Git It" was actually a renaming of the common practice of letting "Bugle Call Rag" evolve into "Ole Miss" as had been done before on record by several bands. Here it starts with Tommy in "Bugle Call Rag" and turns into "Ole Miss" at Jimmy's solo.

These are fantastic, @CCJazzmen! How did you get these videos of Stage Show??? I have a special interest in them, as my dad was in the trumpet section from, I believe, late 1954 to sometime late 1955/early '56. I know that he was there for Elvis' first appearance.
Any chance you might have access to the Count Basie appearance on Stage Show? My dad actually came down and played a solo next to Basie at the piano.

Actually, they died fairly young. Tommy was about 50 here and Jimmy a couple years older.

@@CCJazzmen Thank you! I think Jimmy Dorsey is the best clarinet and alto saxaphone player I have ever heard. (I used to play both many years ago.)
His flawless solos, for example in "Night Wind" (clarinet) and "Do It Yourself" (alto)
are terrific and I never get tired of them. And there are many more. Benny Goodman, of course, is also excellent but
I prefer Jimmy's style of playing and the music he played.
