Are you still in Halifax?!? We’re from here and would love to show you around some other places. There’s so much to do here:
      Here’s some extra tips
      1. Visit argyle street during the evening/night any day of the week! Best night scene
      2. Visit the different markets - Seaport Market, Brewery Market (at Alexander Keith’s on Saturday) - Alderney market
      3. Visit the public gardens (our version of Central Park in NY)
      4. Visit North End Halifax for a more hipster scene (very fun areas like the hydrostone)
      5. Visit different beaches - there are many close to the city 15 mins ( crystal crescent beach, Queensland beach, Martinique beach, etc
      6. Walk down Spring Garden road
      7. Discovery Center
      8. Take the Harbour Hopper tour
      And much more!! :)

Great video! As a new immigrant, really love this city. People are super friendly and winter is actually not that cold compared to cities in Prairie Provinces. As you said, it is a city combined with city characteristics and small-town charms. Wishing more people come to visit Halifax!

I visited Halifax in August 2019 on a cruise stop! We spent the whole day there and it was awesome. Your video brings back memories of a lot of places. I really liked the waterfront and also found a great pub in that brewer’s market area you showed. What an amazing history Halifax has as well. It reminds me that you learn so much by traveling. It’s a place with a history I never really thought about until visiting there.

Thank you for another great video! This really made me want to to visit Halifax again. You're totally right regarding Montreal drivers. Montreal traffic is something that still scares me, both as a pedestrian and as a driver, and is in my opinion one of the biggest downsides to life in Montreal.

Halifax Citadel was very cool, too. There was also a park where they would loan roller skates, among other things, and an outdoor roller skating rink. I believe both the Citadel and the park/roller skate/loan were free. Loved Halifax for my only visit, so far, about 5 years ago.

As a lifelong Haligonian, I have to say great video. You will have to come back and show all of the things you missed (Citadel Hill, Public Gardens, McNabs Island...I could go on :) ).
I was amazed that you saw a deer in Point Pleasant Park. The park is right in the city at the south end of the peninsula that the core of Halifax sits on so not a lot of large wildlife lives there. It does host a great theatre group, Shakespeare by the Sea, who put on some amazing productions at one of the old fortifications in the park. It isn't really out on the East Coast though, it is still deep in the Halifax Harbour. If you want to get out to the east coast, a great spot to go visit is Sambro Head, which is out at the mouth of the Harbour, or one of the sites along the coast to get there, such as York Redoubt.
Fun fact, the park is actually owned by the British Government and leased back to Halifax for 1 shilling a year on a 999 year lease :)

As a person of color and 10th generation Haligonian, I was disappointed not to hear that you visited Africville or either of the Prestons? You really missed out. Anyhoo, thanks for bigging up my city.

Haligonian born and raised. I will say Halifax got a lot bigger and better since i was a kid. I would suggest checking out the downtown night life, music ranging from Hip-Hop, Pop, Country, Caribbean, EDM and more! There's lots of music festivals and other fun events certain times of the year like Hopscotch, Jazz Fest, Vibrancy Fest, The Buskers, Parade of Lights aaand more! We're home to some of the Black Loyalists and Black Refugees settlements from the War of 1812 like Africville and Beechville, and survivors of The Halifax Explosion in 1917. Citadel Hill and Point Pleasant Park have forts, cannons and other old structures from war times. Halifax has many hidden gems and other cool things to do, some of which im still discovering myself, so come explore one of the best cities in Atlantic Canada! 🇨🇦😁

Pronounced Dart-Mith not “Mouth” the coffee shops are for a certain citizen, I’ve lived in NS for 54 years and never have been to Pier 21, the parks and wildlife are pretty decent I’ll admit, the food options are unbelievable,, if you go Donair you must, MUST go to Tony’s Donair on the commons (2390 Robbie St.) is absolutely the best, don’t do yourself an injustice with another spot get the best, Tony’s. If you’re gonna do the city core, do not use a vehicle, travel on foot, transit, scooter but parking, driving etc downtown is brutal.
The number 1 thing to do when visiting Halifax is leave Halifax, Nova Scotia has so much to offer, The South Shore (Chester, Mahone Bay, Lunenburg, Bridgewater, Liverpool, Shelsburne all have unique things to see and visit, strong fishing history, great little towns with cafes and restaurants complimenting the history.
Annapolis Valley area, our agricultural region, loads of apple orchards, small fishing villages, the most extreme tides in the world (spend a day to experience the differences in the landscape at high tide and low tide, you will be amazed.
Cumberland and eastern Nova Scotia, is all about history, and connections to PEI and Newfoundland via ferry, rich forestry history, and then there’s Cape Breton, its like another world of great salt of the earth people, it’s like the home you’ve never know, some say visit the Cabot Trail, some say Bras Dour lakes, I say its the people, but yes…..you wouldn’t be disappointed if you want your vacation to be easy, laid back, social, fun and relaxing…….come visit, and again….

I'm from Montreal but have lived in several Canadian cities, mainly Vancouver. I'm living abroad now but many years back in Montreal, I did meet people from Nova Scotia and Halifax and I always had the impression that Halifax being boring and remote. It clearly has changed for the better but as a place to live it can't be compared to Montreal, Toronto or Vancouver. It can be compared with Calgary perhaps. Halifax does have that New England vibe to it somehow.

    • @TheNewTravel
      @TheNewTravel  Před 2 lety +1

That's probably a fair way to think of it. Montreal is so big it's hard to compare a city like Halifax. But Halifax is definitely evolving and "becoming" a big city

Ideally, I would like to be on the boardwalk. I was looking at the Barrington or the Hotel Halifax, but I don’t know if they’re a little too worn? The most important thing to me is a comfortable bed because I’m going for 12 days. If you have any suggestions for hotels, that would be great. It doesn’t have to be the cheapest. Ideally not the most expensive, but at this point I just want some opinions! Thank you 😊

    Or the Rebout .
We DO have a good pizza scene , pizza corner is a good place to hang if You are younger. But as I said You can get caught in the tourist trap there .
If You want to go to a Pub, I suggest asking a local .
I think one of our best Pubs is the Ale House .
    Remember this name !
A bit trendy , but You will enjoy your stay .
I suggest You DO NOT GO TO THE WATER , FRONT boring expensive and a waste of Your time.
Citadel Hill is a good time if You enjoy history .
