- This is Halifax Nova Scotia in 2024. We're back in our home city of Halifax for the first time this year. In this video we're catching up with what is new since we were last here. We make our way though downtown Dartmouth (across the harbour from Halifax) where we check out thew view of Halifax and head to Ace Burger at Battery Beer Park (maps.app.goo.gl/L21DTDebCNVDN...) for some of the best burgers in the city. We then take the ferry from back to Halifax. We make our way along the amazing Halifax waterfront, and stop at the patio at Bar Sofia (maps.app.goo.gl/5nLx6TG6uziHV.... Eventually we end the video back at our condo in downtown Halifax.

I just stumbled upon your CZcams channel. My ice and I moved to Halifax last summer, she wanted to be closer to her family-everyone is from South Africa-we left Ontario and honestly, have no desire to go back. It has been good for her physical and mental health, we have spent more time outside at the harbour and walking around town in the last year than the past decade in Ontario.
We are seeing the similarities in costs and whatnot but it’s manageable as we got into my sister in laws building at a cheap rental price. It’s nice to go for a drive and actually get out of the province within hours instead of being stuck in the same province after driving for days.
We love it.
I saw you two downtown very recently but you were filming content so I didn't want to interrupt of course. Great to see you back home, if only even for a little while. Y'all are the best!
So cool! Definitely say hi next time 😀 - Trevor
My hometown!❤ happy to see that you got one of the two sunny days we've had so far this year!!
Ugh right? It's been terrible weather as of late. Even worse in Cape Breton - Anna
I'm more than happy to see cooler weather and some rain every now and then. Last year I had to evacuate due to the wildfires.
Can’t wait for the news! Looks like you guys have enjoyed beautiful weather! Great video guys..~Cara ❤
🤗
Looking forward to the exciting news!
I watched your channel 3 years ago. That's the reason I moved here. Love it
Welcome home!! Looking forward to what new you'll find!
🤗
Yes, summer is the best here in Halifax. But don't forget, the fall colours are amazing and last for weeks. I lived in Edmonton for 38 years - spring and fall last about a week, and the fall colours are *only* gold.
I love your videos! Be safe!
Fall is great for sure! We just prefer summer all year round 😉 So glad you like our videos - Anna
Another Great Video Thank You Trevor & Anna 🙂❤👍Halifax is really growing 🙂
So appreciate that... lots more on the way 😀- Trevor
Great video as always guys. Looking forward to having you back here in Cab soon
Already missing Cab that's for sure 🤙- Trevor
Can’t wait to hear your news.
🤗
Cannot wait to hear the news! I have a few guesses, but will keep them to myself....haha. - Coreen
Exciting times! 🤗 - Anna
Good to see the old guitar’s still in residence! 😁 looking forward to hearing your future plans guys 👍
It's definitely not in tune Helen hehe - Anna
Thank you Trevor&Anna for this great vedio
Glad you enjoyed it - Trevor
Welcome Back !
🤗
Good morning all happy Sunday morning to all of you guys and Trevor and Anna you all amazing
🥰
That park you filmed in in Dartmouth, I used to walk it every day to take the ferry to work when we lived on Portland St. (5 corners). It was a beautiful walk and great ferry ride to downtown Halifax to work. I did that for a number of years. Dewolf Park in Bedford is a great place on the harbour as well. Great boardwalk there. There are nice restaurants in Bedford as well. I love Urban Resto (has vegan and gluten-free). They also have yummy vegan and GF dessert, and Thai Ivory is great. The cost of living in Nova Scotia used to be so good compared most of Canada. It's gone up so much. It's sad. I think the pandemic had a lot to do with it because we had so little covid here that people wanted to move here to be safe. I can't blame them. Your surprise, could you guys be having a baby?!! That would be exciting!
🤗
Hello Anna & Trevor, this is a really different atmosphere than Dominican Republic and all the islands you've been visiting these last months but it has his charm too, never been to Halifax but it seems really cool too. Keep travelling and sharing your cool videos, I love them ;-) cheers from Belgium
So appreciate that... we'll be back in the DR later this year but there's a lot more coming to the channel in the meantime 😀 - Trevor
Hi 👋🏼 guys!!
We loved the the beer 🍺 and burgers 🍔 place. That city is beautiful 😍👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you so much 🤗 - Anna
Back from berg chasing in western NL, what a blast, love from Montreal! ❤
welcome back, definitely recommend the Canteen in Dartmouth !
We almost went there too but it was packed! We've been before 👌 - Trevor
Welcome home! 🥳
🥳
Well, I'm shocked but not shocked with your leaving NS. I just discovered you two this weekend, l will subscribe. Your reasons for leaving make sense, I wish l could do what you guys are doing as l hate winter and the cost of living here, too. Sadly, that isn't in the cards for us. Anyhow, thanks for showing some of Dartmouth and Battery Park. Now, those are burgers l can get behind... sorry, Darrell's. Good luck to you both, now, and in the future.
As an immigrant from The Philippines living in Halifax for a year, your videos have been my guide to what places to check out and which restos to try as I'm a foodie; and boy your recommendations didn't disappoint! I'm definitely gonna try that Deluxe Burger in Dartmouth ASAP!
So cool! The next video is a full on food tour showcasing some of our favourite food spots!! - Trevor
@@DelightfulTravellers can't wait for that! ❤
If you want the best fish and chips, go to Papa Mario's on Dutch Village Road. Fresh haddock off the Sambro wharf, and it's only $11.95 for a two piece (HUGE fillets). ENJOY!
Saludos from nyc 🇩🇴🇩🇴🇩🇴🇩🇴🇩🇴
Hey so Awesome to see you back home, even if not for a visit.
I'm thinking you guys are getting citizenship in the Dominican...you now, home sweet home. 😊
It would be awesome, if you have the time, to show "All" the major building of high rises, apartments etc around Halifax, in clouding Almon & Young streets, Clayton Park, Clayton Park, the Wow! Building on Quinpool Rd across from the North West Arm, and another Wow, Bedford West!
Our population has increased, and rents and housing are over the top, however, these new builds are filling up regardless.
Sadly, it's very, very hard for many with lower incomes...this needs to be addressed and taken care of Stat!
Enjoy your visit. Stay well, stay safe, and I am so looking forward to your next Halifax video, and your Big Announcement...which I think? Is getting your Citizenship in the Dominican...but hey, you just might Surprise me! Lol
Love you both! Cheers from Halifax! ❤️
It's so good to be back. Stay tuned for the big updates. There's a lot going on 😀 - Trevor
👍👍
My goal when I retired was to move back to Halifax Or Cape Breton (I fell in love with it as a student at MSVU) but for better or worse, the cost has become too high. Le sigh! Still a lovely place. There is just something that hit me in my gut when I arrived for the first time on my way to PEI for. Visit.
Love sitting on those stairs! My grandchildren and i love relaxing our feet in the water.
🤗
I moved from Saskatchewan to attend grad school in Halifax almost 20 years ago and adored the city! I lived on Church Street and miss being able to walk by the ocean on a daily basis and the walkability of the city. It was very hard to leave and it's great to see how it's changed.
When we had 'real jobs' back in the day we parked on Church street all the time - Anna
Nice video
Heading there next week!
🤗
Thank you for the information on Ace Burger Restaurant. I definitely want to try that place. I do like The Humble Pie in Dartmouth. Looking forward to more Halifax foodie places. Thank you Anna and Trevor. From someone who lives in Lower Sackville.
Ace Burger is amazing! Tell them we sent you 😉 - Trevor
@@DelightfulTravellers will do
I live there and yeah it's rough
When I was a kid in the 60’s we used to swim at Black Rock Beach but it’s been a very long time since I would swim in the harbour!
It's a nice beach honestly! - Anna
Putting that on my wish list to try battery park
The best!
Welcome back to Canada!!
Thanks so much! It's good to be back - Trevor
🇨🇦
I'm sure that eventually Nova Scotia will become one of the best provinces to reside.. I am Québécois but i can see Nova Scotia becoming an envious place in a few year's time..
If you can deal with our high 'Ocean Tax'... it already is one of the best provinces to reside in. The ocean is close no matter where you go and we typically get very little snow compared to the rest of Canada - Trevor
Home is both here and the DR now for us too :-)
We so miss our DR home! 🤗 - Anna
👍🙂🙋👏
🤙
I prefer the Dartmouth waterfront. It has a better view, looking towards Halifax and the ocean. Plus the Dartmouth waterfront stays warmer late in the day when Halifax is in the shade.
Those are my favourite burgers in the city.
Check out Good Robot on the Commons or Evans at the ferry terminal at Alderly Landing . Also try the best chowder and lobster roll at The Canteen .
We know Good Robot well on Robie... we'll have to make it to the Commons location - Trevor
He my old apartment! Well not your specific apartment but I had subletted a unit from the same building for the summer to see if could handle apartment living again. The location is incredible--I loved being right on the waterfront. Like living at 3 month festival in the summer.
You may not know but city council amended the centre-plan for developers to go by. They increased the allowable height limit to 40 stories in some corridor specific areas. One of these areas is around the MacDonald bridge dark side. There could at least five 40 story buildings started there soon. We need them--bring it on.
I tried searching for a city that had as nice a authentic wooden timber boardwalk. I was surprised I couldn't even a close 2nd. There are more iconic boardwalks of course (Coney Island for one) but if there is a nicer wooden timber boardwalk I don't know where it is at.
Oh that burger!
Oh so good to know about the 40 story buildings. Wow! That burger was so good 🤗 - Anna
@@DelightfulTravellers I forgot to mention that JK Rowling's yacht was in last week
I miss Halifax, left in 2009 for Wellington, New Zealand, which is similar in size, arts and culture and crappy weather, and even more unaffordable
Trust me, it's much less affordable now. A 1 BR is at least $1,500. Yes, in Halifax. I have friends in NZ, where the dolphins live, can't recall the name of the bay, in the south.
@@jennifermarlow. a 1 bedroom in Wellington is currently going for about $2800 a month. Halifax is still a bargain compared to the rest of the world it’s just more than it was 10 years ago. People in New Zealand typically rent a room not an apartment because that is way too unaffordable
You should try SIP in Dartmouth ,it's on Wentworth street.
Noted for next time! - Trevor
As a Canadian who left Canada in 1973, I can attest the beef in Canada is way better than here in California
Hi guys, what is the status of the A&b home you left to be rented by others ?
You will not believe it, I went to HALIFAX IN 1973 from New York, for a short visit.
It must have looked quite a bit different then 🤗 - Anna
Originally from China, I lived in Dartmouth for more than 5 years and became a Canadian citizen there before moved to the states last year. I always consider HRM (and the entire Nova Scotia) as my second hometown. Every time I think of Halifax I kind of feel homesick. Thank you guys for showing us how it looks like now
Amazing! It's a great city and we're glad it feels like your home 🤗 - Anna
I came to Halifax on a cruise ship in 2017. Unfortunately it rained heavily the whole day. We headed to Peggy's cove so didn't spend must time in Halifax itself but it had a nice , friendly if rather wet feel. Are the drunken lampposts still there?
We're pretty sure they are but we didn't look for them this time around - Trevor
Lots of hints. My guess is your selling the condo and buying a place in Las terennas
🤔
Crunchification is the whole idea behind a smash burger
I LOVE how HRM has changed since I was a child. I can’t believe how much the city has changed in the past 10 years. I remember the days when everyone left for out west, the cities population was flat, and there wasn’t much here. It took a while, and we’ve got far to go, but we’re getting there at a maritime pace lol
Well said... it's changing for the better but there's a very long way to go 👍 - Trevor
People still are moving out west still no jobs it’s new people they are bringing in mostly from India .9 new encampments going up homelessness and crime is growing . Roads have never been worse healthcare also is a real sin here .
Canadians are still leaving to go out west and further. The immigration has boosted our population. They will soon realize how hard it is to financially survive in this province. Though yes Halifax and Nova Scotia will forever be beautiful.
@@curmudgeonafHalifax is the largest city on Canadas atlantic coast.. what’re you expecting to have in a city of 500k?
Hi👋🏼🇩🇴❤️❤️❤️
🤙
I wouldn’t jump in the harbour. I’ll never forget taking a Harbour Hopper tour and seeing used tampons and condoms in the water 🤢
Is there going to be a Dominican republic tour anytime soon?😮
We will be back in the DR later this year 😀 - Anna
I don't get it. Why wouldn't you jump into the harbor? Is it too cold or something?
Is it good to live in Halifax? I am interested in this place.
We think it's a great spot to live! - Anna
Sure, if you have 2K+ per month for a one bedroom apt
FYI.....Halifax Harbour is perfectly safe to swim in. There is no raw sewage outlets in this harbour.
I think I’m the first one here yahoo
🥇🤗
I guess next announcement will be that you sell your condo in Halifax
🤔
Are places dog friendly?
Like yourselves, also not a ‘winter’ person but I must admit that I enjoy the autumn season here in the GTA. 🍂 The summer weather looks great there in Halifax and I can’t wait to hear the Big News! 🗞️
Go Team Non-Winter 😂 - Trevor
Not again another video with the rising cost. It’s getting old! Sad this is all youtube has to offer these days. Cannot wait for this trend to be over.
