  • In the jungle by a tropical beach my battery develops an internal short. This is what it took to first diagnose, then solve that most unusual problem.

Scotty, what happens to the battery is the lead flakes off the plates and drops to the bottom. When enough of the lead builds up, it will short out. Sometimes, you can clean the battery and dry it out. Blow it out and refill it. If the lead flakes that are causing the short come out, you will have a good battery for awhile longer.

The interesting thing about Bernays' book is that before you read it, you are aware of what's going on. After you read it, you know what's going on. It's like a tech manual for your engine. Once you read and study it, you no longer see the engine. Instead, you can "see" all the internals doing their thing while it runs.

We thought we'd go to the town's festivities on New Year's Eve, took a taxi there, and found out they don't have any festivities and no taxi to be found that close to midnight so had to walk back.About halfway home a police vehicle drove by us twice then stopped to offer us a ride. They were afraid for us because at midnight the locals fire their guns into the air instead of shooting off fireworks.

Those steps down to the beach looked really dangerous. I think that area should be cordoned off until new steps and a proper handrail is built. And there should be a guard (preferably female) there to ensure you hold on while using them.
Obviously I'm being sarcastic but as an American, I am not too far from the reality of life in the States. I'm far from being reckless in all that I do but I can't stand that my "personal safety" is not my prerogative any longer. It is in the hands of some dip who's afraid of their own shadow and want you to be afraid... Very afraid.
PS, I used to travel to an island off the coast of Venezuela called Margarita. There I would see people living as we once did in the USA. And they were happy because they weren't being suffocated by rules and laws.
    Just sayin!

Scotty, if you hook 2 batteries that are of different ages and condition, it will bring the better ( newer ) battery down to the capacity of the older more worn out battery. In turn it destroys the capacity of the better battery. And shortens the life of the battery. You would be way better off changing both batteries at same time ( i know its expensive). Or, setting it up so only one battery is connected at a time and every so often switching them, that way they both stsy charged. Or, you can buy some different devices that will isolate the batteries from each other while they are both connected, that way they are both always being charged - best scenario.

Being more than one use makes them handy and lithium batteries are small and light weight. And because it's not a battery you don't get the huge prices as the new hour thing is to replace leaf acid batteries in vehicles with small light lithium batteries. Charge them with phone chargers etc.

Hey Scotty, I'm guessing that by now you have the battery issue straightened out. I know they can be a pita even when your in a place where they are easy to get. last July while on a ride, my battery started acting funny. The bike would run good for 5 minutes, then the battery acted like it was stone dead. I figured what happened was there was a break internally. When the connection was good, the bike ran good. When the connection separated, it was like the battery wasn't even in the bike. I bought a battery from a place online and had it shipped to my house for like $120. The last one I bought from this place had a larger capacity and more cca's, then the stock one comes with new. On my other bike, I got 6 years out of one. I use a battery tender every now and then, but that's not an option for you. When I was checking around, I saw that some wet cell battery's have higher amp hr ratings, then Gell cell battery's. But like you said they're a pita to deal with. I learned you can never have too big enough gas tank or battery on a bike.,,

No real test for a cell going bad, though those problems are a tip off (and whether it maintains cranking power under load).. ..and always a bummer when it lets you down.

You need a mini solar generator like I got to keep everything charged up..cell phones, laptops and everything else..it's a must have item for you Mr Scott.

Takes forever to charge a battery.

      @kirk563 Před 2 měsíci

@GiancarloBenzina you only use the solar generator to charge smart phones, laptops and to have lights in and outside of the tent, Scott is using his motorcycle battery's to charge his smartphones and ect. the mini solar generator takes that problem away.

I tried one of those. 11 hours just to charge a cell phone and you gotta keep moving the panel into the sun to do it.

Hey brother man maybe a small solar panel on the fairing could be helpful, you'd fit right in with the Tesla crowd 🇺🇲🏴‍☠️

The small boost boxes will charge your stuff if you need, and jump a full size truck. They’re about the size of 2 cell phones and worth every penny. About 50 bucks.

I had a battery that was doing that and replaced it. When I took it out of the car I dropped it on the ground from the height of the finder. My friend came over and said what's wrong with that battery . I said it`s bad. He says can I put it on the charger and see if it`s good. He puts it on the charger and it tests good. He used that battery for over a year. Dropping it on the ground knocked the corrosion off of the cells and it worked again.

Have you considered mounting a solar charger on your fairing or Tour Pack? It's on duty whenever the sun is out.

@@scootertrampscotty Mine didn't really "charge" the battery (from dead), but it kept the battery at peak voltage when the bike was sitting for better cranking and longer battery life.

BS. Forget that Brands nonsense, they all come from the same few manufacturers. Maintain them and replace them, it’s life.
