Happy you enjoyed it!
Agreed!! This is an awesome twist, watching you on the producing side. I’m am dying with your and buddie’s “stank face” when mixing it up good. Pure Gold.

I feel like I remember you initially giving some of these Epic Studio Gear pieces away! I’m throwing my name in the drawing for this one! 😂
The snare sound you get in that little room is insane man. For real. Your an awesome engineer!
Thanks! I appreciate that.
@@AndrewMasters black beauty?
Superb
Ottawa Senators!!! I play drums and grew up in Ottawa. Also recently built a studio in my Garage in Quebec thanks for all the advice over the last year and a bit.
Great review and fantastic video. This was very fun to watch :) AWESOME DRUMMING PAYDEN!

The drums in this video sounded amazing from that compressor
SOunds great!

Cannot go wrong with Neve and WFL drums!
Love my Neve and BAE hardware - cool video - sounds awesome 👏 We have lost the legend but his influence was extraordinary
Absolutely!
wicked Video. The tone was super nice. All I Kept hearing was isn't she lovely that beat.
This is so great. I'd love to have you come to my barn studio!
I'm loving my Lewitt 441.
Payden!!!!
brutally beautiful, also on the OHs
Thanks!
Leeland is one of my all time favorite bands I love the song lion and the lamb one of my favorites
Andrew, (hockey jokes aside) I had the opportunity to compare the 2500, G Comp, and 33609 while I was at Blackbird.
While overall, the SSL was my favorite as a 2-Bus compressor, the 33609 definitely shined for very specific uses.
Drums? Hell yeah.
Parallel compression? Fuck yeah
But the secret was to use it as a bus compressor for background vocals. Flavortown
I've been looking over schematics and pondering the subtle differences all these different flavors of compression offer. It looks like diode bridge compressors like this Neve unit, and FET based compressors like the 1176, inherently distort the signal the more they lower the gain, so it's kind of like there's an inherent exciter that kicks as the compressor kicks in, adding a bit of excitement back in to compensate for the loss of volume. I think that may be part of their special magic; that's my theory, anyway. (Optical compressors like the LA2A and VCA-based compressors like the SSL and DBX designs won't have that characteristic; it's great to have so many sonic options).
I absolutely love the sheer excitement you and your comrades bring to these gear explorations -- I like the fact that they're not traditional knob-by-knob "reviews" per se. I sense the inspiration that you get from experimenting with the gear.
Would love to see aaaaaany new content you make related to engineering the drum sounds you get. Specifically how you gate your room mics. Incredible sounds. Hope the new room sounds similar or better, mah dude!
Oh there’ll be plenty
Smash~!
i recently did a session of drum tracking and we used the 33609 on the room mics as well, and yes it's a bit of a magical thing. i was going to buy one for myself, but i opted for the Audio Scape D-Comp, another diode compressor, which is just as fantastic, i think (i know absolutely nothing, just putting that out there).
potential thoughts on the successor bu heritage audio? (also diode bridge)....?
Awesome channel bro! Random Question… how did you mounted the OHR (above FT)? I know it’s from the ceiling but any specifics ?Thanks so much for all the data!
Now you gotta put it against the UA Version
Completely agree. I can barely afford that one. Lol
Sounds amazing but, I don't think I'm going to drop 4k on any bus compressor.
If the 33609 puts a smile on your face, I hope you one day get to play with a pair of 2254s! Even more sass and attitude, with just the right amount of grit - immediately familiar and recognisable!
Nice video i want that compressor in my life!! By the way where did you get the table, it is a very nice design for my setup too!! Thanks
It's from dangerfox, I linked it in the description with a discount code!
Hi! Is that the Black Beauty 6.5" snare drum? It sound amazing! Bravo!
It is!
Holy shnikes! NEVEr doubt NEVE.
Dude my birthday is in 3 days... you wanna just pack that thing up?
Sounds dope man!
Happy future birthday dawg
u rock wish knew how get record deal in Nashville live be pro songwriter there
Can you PLEASE make a sample of that snare???
Not sure why this is the one, but this got me thinking about getting a legit home studio set up
Which mics are you using for over heads and room mic ?
i just do a couple of screenshots from your video on 8'40, :)
For a snare drum I like boosting around 8k to get that crack and smack out of the snare drum
Hey Andrew, WHAT FINISH ARE YOU GETTING?
So you gonna tell us what's going on with that snare or what lol 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Sm7 on top, that’s it :)
@10:19 😉👍🏻
Leeland kinda fire tho
Are you going into the Warm mic pres first and then into the compressor or just straight into the compressor?
Mic - mic pres - compressor
Who makes the subkick mic you're using?
Dr. Alien Smith "subkick 01"
Drums ok dude. Need to add to backing track as no one listens to drums only. So cannot compare sound that well unless with a mix. Cheers. Love the the snare. :)
Those Tunerfish lug locks are the best lug locks ever. Well, were... sucks they discontinued them :-(
Don't use rubber bands though. Grab some simple ponytail holders and use those. They'll last forever.
Cymbals sound awesome!
I've had the 33609 for many years and love it but what it does is not what I'm looking for in my room mics. I guess it depends on your style of mixing/tracking. I'm an 1176 guy for rooms.
5.00 granola
What's the conga microphone, you have in front(bassdrum)?
Subkick 01 from dr. Alien smith
@@AndrewMasters Ok, thanks
Andrew can you talk about using a side desk? Cause we take decisions, not hearing the right center....
Yeah. Watch my video called using a side desk.
Wait there was granola in the beginning
00.01 granola
How do you use this as a plug-in
Hardware insert. Send and return through the same I/o. Select I/O in the insert menu.
Takes a brave man to wear an Ottawa Senators shirt. Period
😂😂😂😂
Have you ever had a vegan burger
What is in front of the kick?
Beyerdynamic m88 and dr. Alien smith subkick01
@@AndrewMasters Thank you
Stank face tells you everything you need to know
Why do you gate the room?
It’s a technique to control the release time of the room. Still getting big room sounds but allowing it to close before the next hit cleans up a ton of space in the mix between notes and sounds awesome. It’s triggered by the key input from the kick and snare. Very old trick I might add.
@@AndrewMasters thanks for the tip (you answer your comments insanely fast btw). Coming up in the "in-the-box" age sometimes I missed some of these tricks that our resourceful and clever past generation came up with.
It's great , can you lend me 4 grand?
Let me get some of that Beatles money Paul
@@AndrewMasters All kidding aside , great video Andrew!
loved it. but would def be better if you guys could play to a song or something....that would make more sense.
I never pre-compress overheads. You'll have nothing to work with later if you actually need to.
Sexy…just sexy
The Arturia 33609 is on sale for 50% off at the moment for any poors out there that can’t afford the real thing.
Arturia 33609 eh?
@@AndrewMasters Yah, for $50 It sounds great to me. czcams.com/video/NynkAliIk1w/video.html
everyone is being paid to use these lewitt mics, they are all over all of the 'you tubers' channels.
I missed my check, tell'm to hit me up!
