Very good. I'll have to remember this.
Yea that is well understood thank you for that.
Love this.
I've been using the SSL Comp on my mix buss & the puigchild670 on the vox buss for my latest mix. Thanks for sharing this, it was great to see & hear the differences of these classic compressors!
Thanks for this video! Makes the whole business of the different characters of compressors sound a little less esoteric for me as a mixing beginner :)
Nipsky86 Cheers!
Great video! I will try this in my next project
Cheers!
And I use Presswerk which is very different sound too.
Neve sounds most balanced of all 3, Puigchild most vintage, and SSL G most snappy.
Hey mike on the previous video about selecting the right compressor for your mix you were using a Rcompressor before you added your vintage compressor. Would you care to explain or expand on what was that compressor doing to the instruments and vocals and expand on what would you do on a group background vocals please.?
+Nathan Brown Hey Nathan,
Which video were you referring to? I may have to see what I did there to explain. I don't normally use the RComp for mix buss compression.
Cheers!
Mike
is the ssl is bringing the material forward or narrowing stereo image
Hey I'm referring to the video called selecting best mixing compressor for the individuals tracks.
+Nathan Brown Ah yes! On individual tracks I use the R-Comp to perform groove based compression that helps to stage the front-back positioning of the instruments. The Vintage compressors after are used for tonal character and balancing of overall levels for each track.
Hope that answered your question.
Cheers!
Mike
What's the Never Comp numbers again. Is it VST or RTAS? I like it alot!!!
33609 - The one he is using here is from UAD. There is another emulation made by IK multimedia.
SSL is the most transparent of the 3 and has nice midrange to it. Neve has the most bite and works a bit faster so it can catch sharp transients and it brings crack to snare drum and some life to clav part . Fairchild gives the most low end to bass and body to congas. I cannot say which one is my favourite cause all 3 have their purpose.
Not sure I have a favorite either, but typically one of the options will stand out as best for a particular mix.
Loop a section of the song when you’re doing these comparisons. Perhaps?
What's the name of this track?!?!
+ZIRAKZIGIL War Inside
+Michael White I would love to listen to the full song... Not much luck googling "war inside" is there somewhere I can hear this track? It sounds pretty cool. Thanks! (great video, by the way. :)
+ZIRAKZIGIL I have to track down the artist website, but here is a link to the full song soundcloud.com/nickh3/war-inside
All your channels - or most of them - are clipping.
no clipping with the 64 bit processing, but definitely pushing more than I typically do. A lot of sharp transients in these sounds.
Cheers!
