I just made this rub..it tastes good! Thank you.
Looks real good bro keep it up! I try to do alot of the recipes that you do and they turn out very good 👍 thank you!!
Thanks bro! Glad you like the recipes :D
Planning to cook spare ribs I will try this rub. Thanks
I hope they turn out amazing!
definitely gonna make this! I may mix well like you then rub it through a strainer. I plan to try on dehydrating sugar snap peas for awesome "chips" snacks. Thanks for the recipe, have everything and it’ll save me $$$.
That's awesome! After you make this you can tweak it to match the flavor profile you like. I always change a little something till I find the perfect blend. This has a more smoky flavor because of the cumin and chili powder. I know out people would like more brown sugar and less cumin and chili powder to give it more of a sweet flavor. Glad you liked the video and hope it goes well for ya!
👌keep at it buddy,doing great!
Thanks!
Great tutorial. I'm gonna try and make my own this weekend.
Awesome hope it turns out great!
Thank you so much friend 💪
No problem! Hope it turns out great for you.
Going to try this rub - making homemade BBQ freeze dried potato chips (will omit the cayenne for this though).
Yeah if you're not into spicy no cayenne lol
Great video, Nick. I learned a lot....thanks!
The combination of flavors seem like they'd go really good together. Good job!
No problem! Glad you liked the video. :D
@@Nicks-BBQ DO you think you could come up with a BBQ flavored seasoning like is similar to what's on BBQ chips? I want it to put on Popcorn, but you know waaaaay more than I do about spices, and what combinations would create the flavor we're looking for. 😋 I'm sorry, I really AM that ignorant about this stuff. 😔
@@HRHBoof your all good bro! Ask as many questions as you want I like answering them. I'm not sure actually what kind of bbq seasoning would be good on chips. I would look online and see if they sell anything in a bottle you could use at home. I know for those chips they're highly processed and probably more chemicals than actual spices lolol
Making this today, love the passion and explanation. Danko
No problem. Hope you like it!
😊 father's day ribs are on the menu
Glad you popped up!
New sub in Georgia
My husband loves ribs!!!
And I can add to it
I'm going to use this as my base
🥰😘
So glad you found the video! If you guys don't like a Hispanic tone to your taste buds I'd use less or no cumin. Growing up in more of a Hispanic community my taste buds like it :D
So, to help everyone ... here is Nick's recipe ...
4 TBS Salt --> not sure if it is Table Salt or Kosher Salt ... [In the above, I asked Nick what it was.] --> Also, seems like a lot of salt, unless it is Kosher Salt. You sure this is right measurement?
4 TBS Brown Sugar
4 TBS Paprika
2 TBS Garlic Powder
2 TBS Onion Powder
2 TBS Chili Powder
2 tsp Cumin
1 TBS Black Pepper
2 tsp Cayenne
Sea salt
@@Nicks-BBQ • Thank you Nick . 👍
Thanks
Didn't he say 2 tbsp of cumin?
Good job 👍🏾
Thank you!
Good video!!
Thank you!
Love the explanation and quantities! I just got done smoking some ribs and they turned out WAY too salty. I added too much salt and plus the rub had salt. Thanks!!
Thanks! You may have a sensitivity to salt. My wife always tells me the food I make is too salty and I love it lol. if you use the recipe and like it let me know :D
Very nice rub mix! I would say nix the salt, just because salting should be a separate action. That way you can salt correctly and add as little or as much spices as your heart desires :)
That is actually really solid advice. I can definitely agree. I wonder why some rubs you buy in the store have salt in them? I wonder if the salt acts not as I preservative than for flavor enhancement? I'll have to research this to learn more!
@@Nicks-BBQ That part is simple, of all things that go into commercial rubs, salt is by far the cheapest and takes up a fair amount of space in the bottle. If you look at the label, salt is usually the first thing listed.
@@Azurko makes sense! You sir, are very intelligent!!
@@Nicks-BBQ More so just a fat guy that likes to cook :D
@@Azurko hey I guess that means we have something in common 😂
Thx bro :)
No problem!
Seasoning won’t really go bad in the sense that it’ll make you sick, but you will gradually lose the intensity of the flavor profiles over time.
Sweet info thanks!
Please write down the ingredients quantities in the description box.
I will work on getting this done soon. Thanks for the advice.
Yeah, I asked the same damned thing, but I wrote it down. To me, it's obvious, because it saves all of us typing it out. Maybe, he was just getting started and didn't know to do it.
@@Nicks-BBQ See, Nick, I wasn't the only one that needed it written out.
Hey man new subscriber here can you do a video on the cleaning maintenance with the Austin xl....I'm buying one tomorrow and I'm super excited
That sounds like a great video idea. Thanks for the idea! I'll definitely add that to my list. I hope you enjoy it! My family has def been blessed by all the meat lol. Also thanks for subscribing! welcome.
@@Nicks-BBQ Hey, also, you could make a video about how you Prep to get the unit ready and then how you clean it up. Because, I have a system that I developed, and it sure makes cooking much easier. If you make a video, do it in two parts. Like show how the unit is turned-off, then walk us through your prep it to cook. Then, once it is finished cooking, show us what you do afterwards.
..Greetings from Malaysia...just try this rub on chicken...the best is on grill, frypan for chicken chop & oven...funny things is my mom accidently take my marinated chicken with this rub and deep fried in frying pan...honestly,its so delicious and taste like indian fried chicken cuisine 😅
That's awesome! So glad you guys enjoy it
Can i use this as a seasoning for sweet corn? Or cooking the spices is necessary?
I've never tried it on sweet corn before. Let me know how it goes if you try it!
👍 👍
Hope it helped!
What is chili powder made of? In my country I can't find it in any store around. I'll be really thankfull to know...
It's base is ground red chili's. You can use any ground pepper. Ancho chili Chipotle chili's. Or you can add in a little extra paprika. You'll be fine without it. I've had bbq rubs with just sugar salt and pepper and loved it lol. Hope this helps.
Lol I followed just because you told the truth about hitting that subscribe button. Had me LAUGHING 😂. BE GOOD AND BE SAFE.
Hahaha thanks Jimmy. Glad I could give you a laugh.
Do you recommend dehydrated garlic and onion instead of powders? Other question, if you decided to add some herbs for taste, do you recommend powder form or leaves/seeds form? Like sage, celery, or parsley.. etc
I think you can totally put in whatever and experiment. When you're smoking meats you won't notice little variations. However it could add in little blends of flavor 😋
@@Nicks-BBQ Okay I noticed Joe’s used hickory smoke flavor, I bought one hickory smoke powder and it tastes bad “burnt” flavor, do you think these companies use special techniques and smoke the whole rub to make it smell and taste natural or they use special hickory smoke flavor?
Hey looks good hey just going to say go buy some Arabic seasoning I think it’s called 7 seasoning need to go get some myself it’s great I’ve used it mostly with chicken the people in the neighborhood I couldn’t get to live when I use to bbq on my front porch lol
That's some great advice I'll have to try that sometime. Where can I buy it?
@@Nicks-BBQ try any Arabic stores in your area
Nick ... Also, be nice if you'd have the exact measurements in the Description section or in a placard at the end of the video, then it makes it so much easier to put into Notepad.exe to print.
I agree
Nick -- also,l is the SALT kosher salt? Or, is it table salt? Please answer when you can ... please, do it quickly. Thank you.
I used sea salt
Cayenne makes it super hot, doesn't it? I mean I can avoid this spice cause I am not a fan of hot stuff
Large amounts make it really spicy. Small amounts add warmth. If you're not into spicy at all though I'd use no cayenne and change the ratio of chili powder and brown sugar. Use more brown sugar and less chili powder
I use ''SMOKED PAPRIKA
That probably makes it even better!
Great video! Next time you smoke a brisket (or Boston butt) give me a call!
I take it you know me. Who's this?
@@Nicks-BBQ LOL...We don't know each other but if you send me an invite the next time you smoke I'll bring the coldies!
Lol I thought maybe you were my neighbor or something and found my channel. People look at me really weird when they drive by and see our camera and lights outside with the smoker ahah
@@Nicks-BBQ 😀
Gonna try this on my burgers!
Let me know how it goes on beef. This rub is more for pork and chicken. If you're going to put it on beef I would recommend less sugar more pepper.
@@Nicks-BBQ I'll try that.
Can we use it for fries
That would be interesting. I've never tried it before. I would go light on the coating and see if you like it
Would be nice with the recipe on the side panel
I agree. I'll work on getting that added to the description box of the video
Yeah, I asked the same damned thing, but I wrote it down. To me, it's obvious, because it saves all of us typing it out. Maybe, he was just getting started and didn't know to do it.
👍. SF/
[After multiple re-watches, I figured out the recipe. It is listed above. Nick -- ignore any suggested fix for the video.]
At 3:50, you didn't tell us how much Cayenne to put into it. There last tier isn't equal portions, and we don't know how much cayenne. Maybe it's later ... Okay, 2 tsp at 5:40.
Ok
4 Tbs salt, brown sugar and paprika (mix these 3 together before adding the rest)
2 Tbs garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder and cumin
1 Tbs black pepper
1 tsp cayenne
Your Welcome!
Come on man, this video should be 2 mins long max
I could probably make every video 30 seconds long. Then people would complain that it isn't informative enough or explained well.
No need to go overboard with every video being 30 seconds. Just sayingthis is a very simple recipe, and 2 minutes would be more than enough. @@Nicks-BBQ
@@user-bh4tg9vu5u some of us like the extra information, the methodology, the details of the process, because the more you know, the more prepared you are.
Your recipe is 20% Salt, that's way too salty, man! Yikes!!!
Thanks for the feedback. Do you think it is? Traditional Texas BBQ is just salt and pepper. That is 50 percent salt and 50 percent pepper. Or some do 2 parts pepper one part salt. I think it comes down to how heavy you coat something. Have you ever smoked a brisket or pork butt? I put a lot of salt on them and don't think its too salty.
To much talking just make it
Some people like the details. More than welcome to skip to the part you're looking for.
