2021 Toyota Supra 2.0 Review: 200 Pounds Lighter than Supra 3.0 & More Fun?!

  • This year, Toyota added a 2.0 liter version of the Supra to their lineup. The 2021 Toyota Supra 2.0 sits between the Toyota 86 and Toyota Supra 3.0 as a distinct third offering in the Toyota sports car lineup. And it's not just "the base model" either - ‪@toyotausa‬ removed over 200 pounds from the 2021 Supra 2.0 which brings its curb weight down to about 3,180 pounds. We spent a week with a 2021 Supra 2.0 to see if it's truly a fun contender in the sports car scene, or if it feels too decontented to be a player.

I have the 2.0 2023 Supra. Ten speakers, safety tech features. Lots of power for me. Don't care about the "noises." I don't want to distrub neighbors. There is enough "noise" in this country. It's my fountain of youth.

18" looks way better than the 19s. I wish more car companies would leave some sidewall on their sportscars.

I agree. 19 inch rims w 35 series runner are better for tracking. 18 inch 40 series rubber are better for street use.

Currently owning a 2.0 RF mt and coming from a s2k and lotus type 116 (300bhp 840kg). I chose to testdrive the 2.0 launch edition because I simply can't stand weight.
The Mx5 RF is a great car but being 6,3 it's a bit tight. I fitted carbon seats to sit 1,5 inches lower and further back but seating comforts suffer.
I was pleasantly surprised by the supra. It's indeed quite nimble for its weight but less connected then the RF.
Suspension is quite harsh and the rear is too nervous for my taste. I also share the thought that it misses drama.
That said, I think this car is great when you fit the e-diff, together with a kw set, catless dp and a tune.
Yes, you can easily obtain more power figures with the 3.0 but you can't change its weight that easy.
I really like what they are doing in Japan. Revolution sz is a prime example on what the 2.0 should be. 380hp at crank and 1288kg in weight.
Currently awaiting feedback from the dealer, so I can decide to go for it or not.
Thank you for this in depth review. Real helpful

I'm curious to know how you think the MX5 RF and 2.0 Supra compare,
10k difference there also. I ask this for selfish reasons, as I'm soon to
be in the market for a new sports car. I know how you feel about the soft
top MX5 as I've seen your review, but the rf is a better fit for me. For reference I'm in the Mid Hudson Valley region, an I would be getting the MX5 in manual trans only. what are your thoughts? Also how does the new GR 86 fit in this category, Thank you in advance.

So I (Jake) also have driven two Miata RFs, one automatic and one 6MT. If you're tall, the RF can feel kinda tight, and I don't love how it's basically a targa roof and not a full convertible top. It's equally good to drive vs the soft-top Miata, but you get more of the "Miata experience" with the full soft top. Pros to the RF are better security if you park on the street and a bit more insulation/sound deadening for extreme weather temps and road trips. I'd personally only buy the soft top if I did a Miata right now.
I think if you want Miata-esque driving characteristics but aren't a huge convertible person, the 86/BRZ is a fantastic choice. I drove the 2022 BRZ recently (go here: czcams.com/video/K7kE_Oa6SmE/video.html) and enjoyed it a LOT. Miata has the nicer interior if you compare top trim versions of the cars. Both lots of fun.
Supra 2.0 is fairly nimble everywhere but is a larger car than BRZ/86 and Miata so it doesn't feel quite as tossable/flingable. It leans a little more GT car than anything.
All three are honestly very good in their own ways, it comes down to what your priorities are. Supra will feel the nicest inside and be a hair more relaxed on long drives. BRZ/86 are "nice enough" but focused on driving experience over all. Miata can be that driver-first car but has a nicer cabin than 86/BRZ and obviously, the convertible top if you want that.

@@OutMotorsports Thank you, for taking the time out to respond. I've sat in both the RF and the Supra and I fit in both, the RF is tight of course but I can work with it.
Once the BRZ is released I will try to drive all three back to back and hope for the manual on the Supra. Thank again for your insight. Cheers!

I would get the Supra 2.0, but I'm on a budget. I'll buy the GR86 Premium as a 2nd car instead. I currently drive a 2021 Toyota 4Runner. I just want a lil "toy" to play with on weekends...LOL!

Copypasta from our Honda Ridgeline review where someone asked the same question:
As for the "why" - the queer community is one that's not thought of as totally welcome at car shows, autocrosses, track weekends, etc. Sure, "show up" but can you bring your same-sex partner, much as a straight man would bring their girlfriend or wife? Can you do that without getting looks and comments? The answer is no, unfortunately, in a lot of places. And before you say "just don't shove it in my face," consider how simply bringing your wife or holding her hand in public is akin what many would call "shoving it in my face."
So, with that, we're here to build community for the LGBT+ car enthusiasts who have previously not found many or any of their people, or a welcoming place to nerd out about cars and motorsport. We host events online and in-person to connect people, too. It's not exclusively-LGBT+ (i.e. all are welcome as long as you're not a jerk) but the messaging is consistently "you are welcome as you are" which is sorely needed. The car community and motorsport community would both be better off if more adopted such a mindset.
If you have a problem with any of what I wrote above, there are a bunch of other channels doing new car reviews with no other purpose behind 'em.
TLDR: If you have to ask, this channel and associated community is likely not for you. But thanks for watching anyway.
