  • Graham Hancock, formerly a foreign correspondent for "The Economist," has been an international bestselling author for more than 30 years with a series of books, notably "Fingerprints of the Gods," "Magicians of the Gods" and "America Before," which investigate the controversial possibility of a lost civilization of the Ice Age destroyed in a global cataclysm some 12,000 years ago. Graham is the presenter of the hit Netflix documentary series "Ancient Apocalypse."

    As an Archaeologist I had the chance to meet Flint Dibble in Crete 2 years ago on an excavation. I have to say he’s one if not the most engaging and passionate people I’ve ever met. He was conducting a research study on cattle archeological remains and he had all phds, archaeologists and students drinking his words and actively participating to the discussion while presenting us a few goat bones. He was an extremely nice and down to earth guy and the fact that he was strongly encouraging both students and “experts” to exchange over his research subject was very compelling to me since there are quite a few of the so called experts in archaeology who just like to hear themselves speak. I couldn’t have thought of a better person to represent the archaeologists on this debate.

Graham also pointed out how the archeological community (and this smoothly translates to science communities at large) stifled and stomped out any opposition to their maintained views, ignoring evidence from their fellow members who were later proven right. • @supenjin1
      @supenjin1 Před 5 dny +6

      He's never said his wasn't a theory. There's no burden of proof either way. He's only saying his theory and fighting back the amount of insults and censorship from many so-called 'scientists'. What apparently many people lack is logical thinking. He has a theory, some archeologists snap at him. That doesn't mean any part is right, it's just that many scientists are inmovilistic, close minded and short tempered.
      There's a huge fact that Hancock says at the beginning, which makes absolute sense and speaks volumes about many archeologists' train of thought, and it's that only a very little amount of research has been done in the Sahara desert, so there's no way any archeologist may imply that the rest of undiscovered land is empty or lack of evidence. He just says we don't know and archeologists say they know even though they've done very little coverage on the total ground

      Flint isn't a geologist, he should be more humble when it comes to natural stone erosion. Flint can only recognize what he has already seen before. These stones can not be 100% natural. I think humans found this site and customized it. They may have learned to carve stones from their experience on this site. They would have start with small stones and progressively developed craftsmanship to carve and move larger blocks.

    • @supenjin1
      @supenjin1 Před 4 dny

      @@hoppy303 I suggest you acquire reading comprehension. When you have a theory, you don't have to prove it works, hence its name "theory". Hancock has never said he was 100 % sure his theory is real because he has no proof. Archeologists don't have proof either. That's why these debates exist, because if there were proof, there'd be no need for debate. I suggest you find the difference between "theory" and "reality". It's not that difficult. If you present proof, it's not a theory anymore🤦🏻‍♀️

    Regarding underwater structures and sculptures off the coast of Japan, there is going to be damage and effects of time so considering it's been under water for over 10,000 years, the fact that it still has so many recognizably man made features is frankly incredible.

    • @blaizecunningham6080
      @blaizecunningham6080 Před 3 hodinami

      How do you know how old the site is? You can't date the site by how deep underwater it is, especially in Japan. In their recent earthquake and tsunami, the eastern coastline sank by 10meters(33+feet) within 8 mins, and that is a geological process that has been occurring in Japan since the island rose out of the ocean. If Graham Hancock visited that coast today and didn't know about their earthquake and tsunami, he would assume that coastline was flooded hundreds of years ago based on how deep the water is there, showing how faulty that dating method is.
      The size and shape of the coastlines is a direct consequence of geological processes and therefore cannot be used to date underwater sites. We have never used sea level to date underwater sites, not now, not in the past.

    I think Joe deserves a bit of recognition for this episode, we all know how much he wants Grahams side to win this argument, a lot of us do because it’s a far cooler story but Joe holds a very central position and pushes back on both opposing sides when a valid point has been made. More episodes like this would be amazing but only because of Joes ability to remain open minded and moderate the conversation accordingly.

      @susanooalarichard Před dnem

      Comment is kind of extra funny as unicorns likely did exist. Elasmotherium, okapi, an several other animals as examples. Not saying did exist, just were real animals that turned into a myth. This is common in human history to make myths out of things that were experienced. The Japanese Yokai known as kappa for example are real. It's a description of human children and the horrific things their mothers did to them after a famine hit. Kind of more of a coping mechanism in that case; Understandably so, and kappa's origins have long been forgotten by the vast majority of even Japan's peoples.
      Anyway, not saying you're wrong or anything like that. Just saying it could've been a horse with a cutaneous horn or something else weird, but, also normal and real, that inspired the tall tale. Those are basically non-cancerous growths that even humans can get that look like, well, horns.
      Granted, I ought to have made an argument about the limitations of LiDAR and the like given that's my actual working background. Also granted, we probably ought to be saying things exist when we lack evidence. Don't really agree with either of them on this. It's kind of funny as well I suppose as they both require both claims to get the funding for the work they're each doing. I seriously doubt most people would watch this if it wasn't on JRE. I would, but I'm an old man still taking courses that will never stop until I have to.

      @@susanooalarichard right but a kappa is just a MYTH. There aren't ACTUAL turtle men that live in lakes and eat cucumbers. So yeah, maybe there were MYTHS about ancient people/gods bringing new technology to hunter gatherers but that doesn't mean there was an ancient lost civilization.
      I feel like both guests are neglecting to remember that great innovations can be discovered by literally one person. Nikola Tesla invented or discovered radio, the Tesla coil, alternating current, hydroelectric dams and more all in one lifetime. To me it would seem that he has "otherworldly" intelligence but sometimes people are just really fucking smart. Maybe these myths about receiving agriculture/technology from the gods were really just in awe of some guy who discovered boats or whatever, not an entire ancient race that had lost knowledge.

    Graham is like:
    I believe there are elephants walking on the bottom of the ocean.
    As only 5% of the ocean has been explored and charted by humans, it is ridiculous if oceanographer would tell me that there is not, they should do their job better.
    'You have no evidence that there are not, so it is highly likely that there are' -
    Meanwhile, not giving any solid evidence in favor of elephants walking on the bottom of the ocean.

    I wish this was a monthly episode. Where 2 different opinions of an interesting subject debate their points. Really interesting.

      Minus the childlike bickering and name calling by the cosplay side.

      Minus the fact that Graham Hancock is an intellectual hack with no integrity. I'd appreciate 2 actual learned opinions though

      Agree, this is great. And Joe is letting the bickering happen, which I really like too, we are seeing a very pure debate.

      Yeah but I wish it was 2 actual experts arguing the actual frontier of their subject rather than 1 expert and 1 crackpot.

    Finally somebody to shut down this whiny con artist.
    Well done

      Like how water can be liquid, solid and gas under the right conditions, this dude is a walking triple-point of age. 25, 50 and 75 all at the same time.
