On my Minis it also have the wood dashboard. I prefer whitout it, but the rest was on a bad shape. So i keep it... Nice job!
much better wheel and looking awesome 😁🚀
Alex, do not forget to put the oval sealing gasket for each door retaining braket (later foam type works better). Otherwise will leak tons of water under the dashself and onto floorpan. Most forgotten seal in Minis
Cheers mate, I will sort that I did notice water when I jet washed it!
Great video Alex ,attention to detail of the scale as usual ,keep up the good work
Thanks mate!
Just discovered your channel and watched this video. First of all what cracking minis they look so good and rather jealous. Love the enthusiasm and the detail, interesting without being too much. Will catch up on more videos soon. Great content
Thanks Steve! I do try to keep them short and sweet with little bits of information and not waffle to much! Take care mate
Yes, wise choice on the Steering wheel swap. The original is so much better looking than the aftermarket one. I never noticed the strip across the top of the dash, so leaving it on is a good choice too. If You ever want to make it even less noticeable, You could paint the screws black to match the vinyl. glad to see the MK 1 back. Please take us for a drive in it!! Can't wait for the next video. Cheers from The US.
Yes black screws are certainly on the agenda mate, I am looking for a new lower dash rail but prefebly not a new one
the dash looks alright does it mate... nice job bro
Hi Alex. Exciting times ! I bet you're chomping at the bit to get in the "S" and give her a good airing ! It always amazes me how just basic petrol caps suddenly become valuable . So how much are they worth ? ......."Don't tell him Pike !" And it 's the same with the steering wheel and gear knob ...unbelievable ! I had about 5 sets of Riley Elf , Mini Cooper stainless mouldings . I had a clear out and gave them all to Paul Tupman about 10 years ago ! 😨😨😨😨Thanks Alex.
I am behind massively and all I can say is its unbelievable!!!
The standard steering wheel and gear knob look much better. Well done!
Don't they! Thanks David
1 Dislike... why?? ... must be a Ford owner 😁
How can anyone dislike this guy and his vids ... always great content and attention to detail is phenomenal 👍
Thanks Jon! Dont worry about dislikes they actually help promote the video further!
Thats the Biz Toony, that steering wheel looks much better 💎
Thanks Vince Glad you agree
The big hole in the dash rail may well have been where a rev counter was fitted.
To think how keen we all were to get rid of those bus steering wheels back in the day 😂. They make the steering quite a bit lighter and are great for hanging on to when throwing it through the corners.
Yeah that's a good point! I will dig back through the history and see!
Hi Alex, I enjoy how you get really excited about fairly mundane stuff and it’s really good (in my opinion) that you’re getting your my 3 closer to original. I guess that you probably know Simon Wheatcroft who is just a mind of information on originality and always happy to advise. Please change the interior door handles back to standard black plastic ones as yours look to be chrome? I have a 1971 “S” with a Motolita wheel and after watching this, I am tempted to put a standard one back on as I have one hanging up in the garage that I bought a few years back. Take care and keep up with the great videos.
Thanks Helen! Yes changing the door handles is on my list! I believe Simon is a very Knowledgeable man when it comes to Mk3s
lovely wheel in 'yellow'... nice choice bro
Thanks Stu
Looking great Alex. Liking the big wheel 👌
Cheers Sean can't beat a big bus wheel
@@classicminidetails8887 my mk3 had a big wheel when I bought it. I may reinstate it when it's restored 😁
@@BMCWorkshop definitely!!!
Must admit I'm more tempted now to swap my 14" -Lita back to the old factory bus wheel in my Mk1, it does look good in your cars, and it's actually really nice for motorway cruising - being so wide you can comfortably rest your arm out the window and hold it nice and steady, and it basically acts like a flywheel, it's nice and smooth!
Yes the bigger wheel is great for the one arm cruise position!
Like your workshop heat lamp, I need one
Machine Mart mate
Looks far better with the original steering wheel.
Definitely!
I bought a proper steering wheel for my Mk3 Mini 850 and It's so much nicer than the little go cart one I initially had. Also swapped my gearknob for a proper one. I leave the bolt for the steering wheel hand tight so my party trick is to remove it when I park up somewhere dodgy lol :D
Good idea about the steering wheel! They are probably fine finger tight as the splines hold the wheel on tight
Wheel looks great and a good job on the dash but something tells me your be replacing that lower dash pad soon I know that tear will keep you awake lol..
Yep 🤣 going to be a winter job mate
Good stuff Alex, standard steering wheel is just to big, in my day in 1970s when we ran Cooper and Cooper s almost first thing was remove standard steering wheel and replaced with Moto-Lita which cost £20 with boss.
Next was a bracket to lower steering column down towards driver, clamps on steering rack were loosened to allow rack to turn.
I remember bracket was made by SPQR.
Yeah the big wheel isn't to everyone's taste, I personally did it for the looks and driveability. Makes getting in more difficult being bigger
Don’t forget the brackets to tilt and move the driver’s seat back - also SPQR😀. Also slip on seat covers with side bolsters……
Definitely a good shout not to replace the dash rail cover Toony- it should have the date of the car’s production stamped on the back in red. Essential in my opinion for originality- reads ‘11 Nov 1970’ for my mk3.
Ohh interesting I will look at that!
Definitely an improvement with the original steering wheel . I think you did the right thing with that dashboard piece, why replace the whole thing? It looks good. 👍
Thanks Stephen!
Dude. You’re the biggest nerd in the World with your Mk1,2,3 steering wheel knowledge! 😂😂🤣
Someone's gotta do it 🤣🤣
Steering wheel looks much better ... and I’ve got one of the ‘mini’ centres . I will check it’s condition for you
Yeah let my know mate!
Hi Alex great job on all the cars. I’m just considering a Mk3 Copper S and just wanted to ask how it compares to your Mk1 Copper S.
I currently own a 1978 1275GT but the MK3 Copper S I’ve wanted ever since the first car I owned back in 1977.
The Mk3 S is much more refined than the Mk1s. It's really hard to pick a favourite as they are so different
beautiful mini ... who knows how much you earn working to have 2 like this.
Oh wow that steering wheel and centre reminded me so much of my parents mini that I learned to drive in, it was an old M plate would that of been mk2 or 3?
Mk3 I think M mate
@@classicminidetails8887 loved driving it despite it going down the road like a crab 😂
Nice detail, one question,How does the horn push work?
Mk3 had them on the stalk from memory
@@timsminigarage that's correct, mk1s had a centre horn push 👍
Love the steering wheel 👍 what’s the actual diameter of the mk2 wheel?
I don't know mate of the top of my head
Where da whaxxxxx oil at ?
It's coming.
My question is simply this, did anyone else reach for the paracetamol trying to keep up with the Mk1, Mk2, Mk3 stuff? 😅😅
Mate I give myself headache the amount of research I put into these cars 🤣 if I am not an expert by the time im 40 I'm giving up
Just paracetamol. I even took ibrophen too
@@classicminidetails8887 You're becoming like me mate, a bit of a Stato of the car world. I barely remember being 40 😂
Classic mini pervert strikes again hahaha
That's it I'm changing the channel name.
No don't put the bus wheel on
To late 👀
