- Hikaru and Asuka Nakamura once played against each other in tournament, and it wasn't pleasant.

hikaru is more disrespectful to 13yo hikaru than he is anyone on the disrespect speedrun.
Hahaha exactly!
hahahaha some therapy issues to be dealt
Hikaru was throwing for content even as a kid
AND HE SACRIFICED HIS BROTHERR!
HIS BRRRROTHER!!!
Alphonse .....
@@DHHFanatic Great, now I have to watch Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood again!
@@brightonlund The original Fma has a "brothers" ost... check it out ... Fma has a bit of a darker vibe for me..
This doesn’t even make any sense. Also, please, don’t milk the joke. I see it everywhere and now it just seems so dry.
Hikaru really calling himself out hard on mistakes he made as a 2300+. Imagine what he sees in the 1000-rated player range.
@@KarlMarxBR700 what is the threshold for a serious player? I ask because I play at 1100, where do I need to be to be considered a serious player?
@@djvelocity 2000
It would be one or two blunders and the rest of the game speaks for itself.
@@sijenkai3928 how to get there though, eh? 🤔📚♟
@@djvelocity odds are you will never get there. 2000 is like .01% of all chess players
It's funny that instead of complimenting his brothers good game play he shames Hess 😭
Hikaru also started suggesting he might have been playing nice to his brother when Hikaru blundered. Then Hikaru started to get visibly annoyed when he saw his brother had winning positions at multiple points during the game. What a real barn house rumble the game turned out to be.
Hikaru should be congratulating his brother for beating GM Hess. Using it to prop up how good his brother is after stopping competive chess as a teen. Hikaru's brother is truely an impressive beast. Just wish Hikaru noticed it a little more.
I’m not sure if critical criticism is the way he congratulates his brother, but either way he said he didn’t want to play against his own brother, so I believe he just has good intentions.
I mean...mostly that what older brother do to their younger brother, bully each other
Why is that funny?
Yeah that was strange to me because Hess has been a commentator for Hikaru on his channel.
4:25 Hikaru is really dissapointed that he didn't find a top engine move at 13 years old😭
Haha!
well an easy to find one
understandable could be the stress and emotion involved with playing your brother
He is being way too harsh with himself. He was a good player back then, but he was still just a kid.
We need a Nakamura brother stream!!!
No one even knows what the hell happened
Has something bad happened with his brother/family? I'm too lazy to do research 😶
Yes
What happened?
I don't think they talk to each other anymore
"I used to be good at tactics" - Hikaru Nakamura, Reigning World Fischer Random Chess Champion
Hikaru: counts in Japanese
Me: wait, I thought he didn't speak Japanese
Hikaru: ichi(1) ni(2) san(3) go(5)
He may not speak Japanese, but it is no surprise that he can count in Japanese. He probably knows many words and may even understand some basic conversations in Japanese, without being fluent.
@@nymbusDeveloper86 point of the comment was that he counted wrong at 12:07
“Daily shame for Robert Hess who has fallen to the level of losing to my brother who is barely a master.”
At that time Hess was just a kid just as Hikaru and his brother. He seems to be comparing Hess from 2023 to his brother in the early 2000s. Also we don't know how good of a chess player his brother would have been had he not stopped playing chess. I think it is a fair assumption to believe he could have been a very decent GM. Just like Hess. I just don't understand why Hikaru had to throw that in here.
I feel like 2300-2400 elo in 2001 is not on par with 2300-2400 elo in 2023 with the increase of computer strength, and general player strength.
Hikaru always clowns on 2400s for not being as good as they were when he was coming up
if you watch 2300 they miss a lot of stuff so i wouldnt say that necessarily
@@jonny-dp2qr Not actual 2400s, there's a huge difference between online 2400s and FIDE 2400s. FIDE 2400s are soon-to-be GMs, online 2400s might not even have titles. Online ratings are heavily inflated, that's how Hikaru can be 2760 FIDE but 3200 online, it's not a direct comparison
That may be what is going on and surprising Hikaru. I just read at the end of 2001 Hikaru's rating was 2476.
@@klatchabobby you’re right I blundered
The moral of the story here is that even when Nakamura loses, Nakamura actually wins! 😂
Nakamura wins.
Cope harder Nakamura fans
Are you talking about Nakamure Sumire and the Nakamura family?
people have asked this a million times but it would be so cool to see them play a match now he already played against his stepfather time for the brother
they played each other in an arena king
@@yanlopesteixeira i want to see the interaction more personally
@@JustAPokemonCommentingOnVideos something aint right here 😬
@@KarlMarxBR700 Why would anyone feel bad about it? Hikaru is a super gm, his brother doesn't play anymore. You think his brother wouldn't have the humility to be okay with losing? It would be for fun and so people can see how he played chess and how they interact with each other. 90% of Hikaru's content is watching him destroy people easily. I don't see the problem.
@@lunlun4189 oh shi 💀
Watching you explain chess teaches me more than playing ever could. With your explanation as to why certain moves are better helps with my perception and how I integrate strategies. Thank you for being amazing and sharing your knowledge!
Good to know that you are enjoying chess and Hikaru’s stream! Watching him has helped me with the same.
Plop the pony on d4 is quite probably the funniest thing I've heard today.
My little brother also beats me at chess, and I can attest that it's frustrating. The only difference between the Nakamuras and us is our slight difference in elo, we're both around 400 rated. Our games end when one of us blunders a queen
If you’re 400, you shouldn’t resign even after you blunder your queen. Because there’s a chance they’ll blunder it right back.
as an 800, i've definitely thrown games that were heavily in my favour
I like how the intros reflect the title and lures you in, but leaves enough mystery to make you want to watch more. Brilliant.
I've been asking about your brother for ages, him beeing a champ back in days as well. I hope to see more of him! 😄
Alternative video title:
Hikaru beats Nakamura
I loved how he saved dominating his big brother by showing him beating Hess recently.
Yessss Hikarus Brother Returns
Hikaru's brother still doesnt talk to him to this day.
I like this set up with the Twitch chat bottom left corner.
mans had no need to say he cried after
😭😭
The legendary Hikaru vs Nakamura game.
Excellent video - thank you for sharing
Showed mercy‽ Oh how the times have changed! Glad you got that out of your system.
Hikaru’s thumbnail maker deserves a raise.
It seems like Sasuke and Itachi, but the young one is the real assassin...
The title should have been;
The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day Hikaru played his brother
Still waiting for Nakamura's vs Firouzja's hand and brain 😃
I don't know why but I would watch a tournament when the players should play in duos. Now, at the end of the day the Nakamura brothers would win the whole thing, 250 gifted subs and 100 000 dollars. Somehow epic for me.
Ngl I would love to see them play chess together
12:06 No Hikaru, there are not five pawns
This man's memory needs to be studied in a lab
He forgot that he didn't play rook e8.
It's time for a rematch, Hikaru. With or without the boxing part ;)
11:53 It says Qxa3 is a draw, so maybe there is a repitition he missed somewhere or something. He says it is "probably good enough to win" but it looses the advantage.
I actually thought Hikaru's brother was Stonkfish

Only game you played against him...Yes, say goodbye to bronze..
So, it was like Mortal Kombat's final battle where Shang Tsung turned into Liu Kang's brother?
Brother disrespect edition.
Hikaru have such a cool anime backstory
You're awesome at explaining the moves and tactics. I know, it's simple basic stuff for you, but can you slow down a little bit for us 1000s?
6:12 bruh I was doing something on my other monitor and all of a sudden I HEAR this lad count in japanese?
His face when he realized he didn't play Re8 💀
We ain't ragging on him for miscounting five pawns ?
This is almost as bad as when killer had to fight his brother on Half Baked, yo.
Not sure who got more burns Hess or Hikaru's brother
"He has now fallen to the levels of losing to my brother who is barely a master, that is our daily shame on Robert Hess" 😂 😂 😂
Ice cold ❄. Ice cold.
As I've learned from your Disrespect series, 2300s are bad, even in 2001, haha
Ahhhhh Brotherly love who's the master
My older brother is a professional rocket league and valorant player. I have beaten him in all the 1v1s, little brothers built different
Sorry to break it to you but he let you win fella
wonderful video! keep it up!
why his brother playing horizontal chess on the thumbnail tho
Gracias Nakamura.Saludos.
This is very different from games between Muzychuk's sisters
Asuka Nakamura is such a badass name
Thanks for the Modern/KID lesson.
Brother Nakamura epic
taht names sounds like some awsome anime charakters! We need a "hikarugogo" anime!
I'd quit too gg Hikaru brother
Hikaru brother is much more handsome.
Hikaru brother face reveal when?

What language was Hikaru speaking @ 6:11 ?
ichi ni san go ( 1 2 3 5)💀
hi hikaru, can you add Turkish subtitles to your videos? we are having a hard time following it this way, thanks!
Stop picking on your brother!
i wonder what 13 year old hikaru vs 13 year old magnus would look like
Magnus was a GM at 13 , Hikaru became a GM at 15 .. so Magnus might have an advantage :)
Me who didn't know that Hikaru had brother
My older brother taught me how to play chess. Pretty much just how the pieces moved.
Once I started making winning moves against him, he started changing the rules and I called him out on it
his brother is 2100
Kane vs undertaker
Disrespecting his brother also.
And Hess
summer of 2001 , yet i was born there hehe
You played in my town
This is the first time I've read the chat in these videos and bruh, this chat is so boring. Them boys seem to share one collective brain that never catches the information being presented to them
And yet again...no bongcloud-->bad game
To me it's very obvious that Hikaru was feeling bad for his brother and didn't want to embarrass him or win too overwhelmingly and kill his confidence. I can't believe I you had to play a whole classical game against him! I was assuming it was a rapid.
hikaru to his 13 year old self: YOU FAILER

Yooo I’m in Oklahoma
To me it's very obvious that Hikaru was feeling bad for his brother and didn't want to embarrass him or win too overwhelmingly and kill his confidence.
Isn't Asuka a girl's name?
Asuka silly question, get a silly answer
I was taught ichi, ni, san, shi. Not san, yon
4 can be yon or shi. Likewise, 7 can be nana or shichi. 9 can also sometimes be ku although it is normally kyu.
Yep, what Rowan said. When counting fast, I prefer Shi and Shichi (don't have to pronounce the last i), which just seems faster for me. Yon is a bit slow with the N and Nana is 2 syllables, while Shichi can be 1 if drop i.
There are also more pronunciations of numbers 😂 like counting generic things: hitotsu, futatsu, ...
I wish Japanese didn't do this. It's awful as a learner.
damn! when Hikaru was 13 years old he was close to 2400 elo
What is *ELO is Hikaru’s brother?* 🤔
Asuka's FIDE rating is around 2100-2200 before he retired professional chess at 2003.
@@julseu_lol whoa. What constitutes a grandmaster? Hikaru said his brother is barely a grandmaster but I play at 1100 so 2100+ to me is like blasting off rockets ha
