      Agreed. I currently only own a pool table as I do not have the space (or money lol) for a snooker table. However I do watch alot of snooker and appreciate everything about the sport. From making the tables to the cue control that some of the players have. If you appreciate good snooker tips check out Barry Stark CZcams channel. He has helped me out alot.

    Back to Reality.
    I will have to build the whole thing from scratch as the access to my cottage is through a covered passage to the back of a tall building and my back garden is 1.2 metres above 1st floor level and the only way to get the materials into the garden is over the top via scaffolding.

      @@AznHunter69 In the US, it is a two day job. The table is allowed to sag overnight under the weight of the slates. And the next morning the work continues. It's common practice because we don't have snooker table fitters in the US. And returning UK fitter to fix the sagged table would be a costly practice.

  • @saschalippe8797
    @saschalippe8797 Před 4 lety +20

    I suggest not to tighten the bolts in the legs until the slates are on and the table is levelled perfectly. The beams might not be settled properly if the floor and legs are not perfect even. So there could be a gap somewhere between the beams and the legs but the tightened bolts hold everything in place until they get loose with time or someone leans on it while playing and puts more weight on it. Then the table sinks in and is not level anymore and needs re-leveling. Which could be difficult as it might be that the slates 2 and 4 are affected, which you can't reach properly for re-leveling without taking the cushions or even the cloth off. Lots of messy work and time consuming.
    If you keep those bolts firm but not totally tightened, the table can "sink in" its position under the pressure of the slates before you level it and will stay where it is after it was perfectly leveled. Only reason why it could become not level anymore then, is when the carpet or the matts (to level the table) underneath the legs are squeezed in after some time. But then you can re-level it very easy under the legs with a jack (gently) as usually the slates 2 and 4 are not much affected or will get back in place when the legs are lifted in position again with matts.
    I used to it the same way as in the video but when I had to install 17 tables for the European Championships in Malta in 4.5 days, I had this idea and it worked 100%. All tables stayed perfectly level throughout the championship and players appreciated it.
    P.S. please use 4 men for the slates for the sake of your backs... one slate has 180kg... 😓

      @davidfarquharson5530 Před 2 lety

      Would it be a good or bad idea to do a rough assembly, let it sit over nite then do the final tweaking/leveling etc next day?

    • @saschalippe8797
      @saschalippe8797 Před 2 lety +2

      @@davidfarquharson5530 yes, BUT you should level it already as good as you can before you leave it overnight. Then do only the fine-tuning the next day.
      Otherwise it can be that the wood bends, if there are any gaps between a leg and the floor, for example.
      That's actually the savest way to avoid the table from settling later:
      Quick levelling before the slates are put on. Slates on. Immediately level it as good as you can. Leave it for a day or two. Then do the precision levelling. Then tighten the bolts in the legs. Done.
      Good luck!

I would have thought the the old-fashioned 'half butt' and long rest would have long been dispensed with by now, even for domestic tables, and replaced with the later telescopic versions. Gets me wondering if I'd be better off going with 'Star' or 'Rasson' as my table supplier, even though Riley were once top of their game. But, I still wish this table were mine! Lovely setting too. When the Rolling Stones are on tour, a crew assembles a snooker table so Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards can shoot a few frames before and after each concert. When they finish playing, the crew takes the table apart, the pieces are flown to the next city and it gets put together again. I'm not sure if they use two tables and build one while the other is taken apart, but if you really want to know, I can find out.

      How funny would it be if they marked the position of each ball before they tore it down so that they could continue playing the unfinished game. They’ve been playing the one game continuously for 17 years and there’s still 4 reds on the table lol. Mind you, if they actually did this I’d be quite impressed.
