I've always wondered what goes through people's minds when they say it's their wedding, when it's actually their offspring's. I just DO NOT get it. My parents sure had an opinion for my wedding, but they didn't insist on anything. They paid for almost half of the wedding, but it was a (real) gift, not a way to get what THEY wanted on OUR day.
Amazing that the "lumpy, bumpy"mother took over the appointment with her snide comments.
I agree although the journey took her to the most gorgeous dress 🌹

@@mariegarside8830my mother kept using those exact words regarding me and my sisters, who were my bridesmaids, during my whole wedding planning season. She made my gown, which was great, but took liberties in making tweaks that made it more to her liking than to mine….I couldn’t do anything about it because it was so close to my wedding day! In fact, it only got finished the day before my wedding. My dress was very beautiful but in the end, I liked it, not loved it, but it was something to wear to my wedding! On the other hand, having spent my whole life dreaming about my wedding shoes and not my wedding dress, I was 100% in love with my shoes, and I wear them every chance I get!
I feel for any bride whose mother is so controlling.

Her mother knows her best, the dress that she ended up with is perfect! The lace and fit on the others wasn’t right.
Mom was right though, the first two dresses didn't suit her at all. They were too old fashioned looking.
That is why I alone planned my own wedding and had a custom dress made... I gave my mother the reception as I didn't care.. Funny.. I never got to nibble on anything.. I was pulled from one person to the next as I was moving across country!
Her mom is really controlling. Saying "it's my wedding. She's just the bride". That is so selfish. There is a different between supporting and selfish/controlling. It's the bride's day. Not the mom's

She reminds me of my overbearing mom. She bulldozed over all my dress choices throughout my life. In my culture, the groom brings the bridal clothes. My sister in laws very sweetly informed me that the dress would be totally different and unique and would suit me but my mother threw a fit when she came to know that the colour of the dress would be totally different from the traditional bridal wear. She made it into such a big deal, mocking my fiance family and pressurising me to say no to my fiance. All this even before seeing the dress.
When the dress finally arrived, I and my mom were stunned. It was the most beautiful shade of light blue with crystals and lovely pattern. I loved it immediately. Its been 12 years yet my family and friends still remember my wedding dress!
What a selfish mother! .. Mothers are supposed to want their daughters to be happy and feel beautiful and special especially when they choose their favorite wedding dresses. This mother is from an older generation and she shouldn’t impose her opinion on her daughter, just because she’s paying for the dress. Gifts are supposed to be unconditional, but apparently that’s not the case for this controlling mother.

Mom wasn't so bad. I could totally handle a mom like that. Remember the family is coached to disagree a bit for the drama of the show.
It is asking a lot to ask a mother to pay for something she doesn’t like.

No mother should interfere it’s the daughters wedding not theirs I never saw my daughters dress till her wedding day I just made her cake and helped her with what she needed and yes she looked stunning!
That's a great attitude! I know my mom would have been that way too if I had ever gotten married. One thing though my mom would have helped me make my dress (we both knew what I would want and because of my body type would know how to adjust to flatter.).
Notice how the mum says about the last dress how "that doesn't really look like lace to me" just to not having to admit that the lace was nice? I'm happy to see though that the bride stood her ground against mom!
Mum must have been a real blast shopping for school clothes and at the beauty parlor. I am amazed at how subdued the others were at first.
Why does no one ever seem to point out that, with the right dress, lumps and bumps will disappear with proper fitting. 🤷♀️

My mom helped pay for my gown, not only did she let me do as I pleased, but she wasn't at the store with me so as not to bother me. I actually went all by myself, and that was just perfect. Mom discovered the dress on the big day and loved it.
I went with both of my daughters but bought what they loved whether I liked it or not. Their gown, their day, but I did love their choices. They looked stunning on their wedding days.
This mother is just a complete control freak and is not a nice person at all
If you love your daughter and you want her to be happy ESPECIALLY ON HER WEDDING DAY, then let her choose what wedding dress she wants for HER OWN WEDDING. 🤨😡
This is why you're suppose to save money for your own dress. When i'm getting married i'm paying for mine.
I have noticed that when it's "the dress" for the bride, they carry themselves different, they smile more, the entourage seems to love the dress because of the way the bride carries herself in it. The entourage picks up on the brides indecisive behavior and veto the wrong dress.
I agree with Mum on the first dress. The second dress that had sleeves would be lovely for her winter wedding. She looked very pretty in her chosen dress.

Actually #2 was better than the fitted. When you have a tummy like that (and I do too tbh) fitted like that highlights the tummy and it really doesn't look that attractive in person. Actually makes you look expecting and brings a lookers eyes there. But other than that it was a very nice dress.
You can very obviously tell on her face when she put that last one on that she liked how she looked in it!
I wonder if mum chose the groom too! I mean, according toum, it's HER wedding, and she's "just the bride"!!

I am my mom’s only daughter. She couldn’t join me to look at wedding dresses or my best friend or any other friends. I went by self and with the help of a fabulous woman at the bridal salon we found my dress and our eyes light up together when I found my wedding dress. I was confident and truly happy with my selection and the best was no negative responses. I truly picked out MY wedding dress! 😊
My mom was so supportive when I went dress for my wedding she said ' I was the one who was going to be wearing it for 8+ hours so I'm the who had to like not her.".

This is my daughter’s future mother in law. It’s driving her crazy that she’s not driving the train with the budget we have our daughter so that she, the FMIL, can plan the wedding she never had. She has only two sons. One with cerebral palsy, who will never marry and the one my daughter is marrying so this is her one shot.

I have a sneaky feeling that the producers instructed the mother to say most of those things and act that way. She doesn't come across as genuinely self-centered as some other mothers have in this series.

This mum.. she has had her moment. Now it is her daughter's turn. Do you want you daughter to be happy or do you want to push whatever dress you want (while you are not even wearing it)?
My mother chose my wedding dress without me even being present. All I had to do was show up for the fitting. I loved the dress. It was perfect. I have treasured it for over 52 years.

The wedding is all about the bride and the groom mainly the bride it's not about Mom it's not about Dad it's not about whoever thinks a lot it's the bride only that mom needs to shut up and let her daughter have her day
It's weird and kind of archaic - the whole issue of who controls the purse strings and what does that mean. On the one hand, if a mom or other person is dishing out all the money for the dress, I think that their feelings should be taken into consideration, to a point. If it's an issue, than the bride needs to pony up with her own cash. It's 2023, after all. But so much of this is barely concealed control games.
If the bride has to wear a potato sack in order to wear what SHE wants, so be it! And David, Mum is NOT the boss...
Remember brides, if you can't kindly but firmly stand up to your mum then you're too immature to be married!!!
Not when mom controls the purse strings. A selfish mom like this one isn't going to buy a dress she doesn't like & unfortunately isn't going to let her daughter choose her favorite one. My advice would be for brides to save money to buy their own gown so they can buy what they want no matter what mom & others think.

Can I just remind you Mom how much I truly love you. You were always, honest, supportive, and you knew me so well. I miss you so much and I am immensely glad this woman was not my mom.
Funny, my mom and I had opposite problem. She and I got in an argument when I was going to purchase fabric for my wedding dress. She insisted I needed to have lace. I did not want lace. My wedding dress ended up without any lace, entirely made of moiré fabric. But I did include a bit of lace on the bride maids dresses.

Am glad my mom isn't like that 😢. If she does have an opinion about something she'll tell me what she thinks but she's not gonna stop me from getting it. not to mention if she sees that I really do want it she'll put aside her opinion instead of forcing me to do something I don't want.

I think alot of these shows are acted as such for entertainment purposes. Quite often people don't actually talk the way they do
My only advice to my daughter would be don’t take too many people with you (I would love to be one of them) and, even if she has a firm idea of the style going in, try various looks if only to confirm it’s the right look but, she could change her mind so try everything first. And, whatever she chooses, I will love it.
Also tell her to try on styles she might not think she likes because she could be surprised. This was my experience with my daughters throughout their prom years in high school & also when they went wedding gown shopping. Everything looks different on the person than on the hanger. ❤
I'm happy my mom never did that to me, it's all about the bride and groom mom! not about you! If you got insecurities, don't put them on your daughter.
