- June 13, 2004 - Following a second half skirmish in Game 4 with Lakers forward Slava Medvedenko, Rasheed Wallace proceeded to score on the following two Pistons possessions. Wallace hit 6 of 10 shots after the dispute, scoring 26 points, grabbing 13 rebounds and leading the Pistons to an 88-80 win that brought them within one game of an NBA title.

Greatest TEAM they All had their roles and p played it to perfection. Based in raw individual talent you couldn't compare them to LA but they could out work and play their roles. Shaq was meant to be too big too strong. Tell that to the two Wallace's!

I always loved these style of games because points always felt so much more important and crucial. Down 5 with 3 minutes to go you were on the edge of your seat every shot. Now i exoect anither 20 points between both teams to score.

Rasheed took prime Shaq and Kobe to a game 7 in the WCFs and nearly won that game. He's one of the most underrated PFs in NBA history. Glad he got his ring. He should have 2 or 3 but at least he proved he could beat Shaq and Kobe.

***** Detroit was declining by that point. they some older guys on the team. even so, that was the eastern conference finals and they went 53-29 for the year. not exactly something to scoff at.

Rasheed was like the bear you didn't want to poke/provoke, he'd get into a zone and was virtually unplayable. He could make that short little jump hook, jumpers from the elbow & FT line or even a 3. Guy was all heart, loved it

+Andrew Harper Sheed was always a problem for my Spurs too. Only guy in the league that could consistently guard Tim Duncan really well. I don't think Portland was afraid of the Lakers though, they just hated them so much that if the whistle went badly against them they'd go crazy. Poor Sabonis was like the only dude that never lost his mind on that stacked team. They definitely should have won at least one ring.

Of course it woulda meant Larry brown staying on as head coach and team health but that rotation woulda just wore teams out on both ends of the floor. Dumars letting Ben Wallace go for a measly 13$M in the off-season of 06' was just a bad move compounded by drafting milicic over either wade bosh or Anthony. Chicago's offer sheet to Wallace was 60$M and dumars offer sheet was 47$M. That's what I mean by "measly 13$ million" u get my drift

They just played a slow pace and the bench didn't skip a beat offensively and mightve been better offense when Mehmet Okur came in as the stretch 5 and stretch 4 with sheed on the floor. Losing Mehemt to free agency is the only reason we didn't 3 peat.
I felt really happy for Wallace for getting revenge on the Lakers for Portland losing game 7 a few years earlier.

That's always been his problem. He woundn't always do what was best for the team (i.e. dominate), and yet people gave excuses for him that he's too unselfish. No, that's another form of selfishness. If he had Duncan's mentality he would have been the greatest PF of all time.

They let Shaq run around like a gorilla on the court, and it was a disgrace to the sport. Definitely need to be able to space the floor in today's game. If you look at successful teams back in 80s-90s their PF usually had good midrange. Mchale, horice grant, hakeem, kemp, malone. Then it went to dirk, KG, duncan, webber, wallace. Unfortunately now though the post game is fading.

A great, versatile defensive team; could kill the Warriors on the offensive back board; Tayshaun would've been perfect defender to slow down KD; the Wallaces could both move their feet and switch onto smaller players. Would be a fascinating matchup.

I guess he could have asserted himself more and been "the guy" but those Pistons teams were so focused on team ball that it didn't make sense to have a go-to guy, especially when you had Chauncey Billups one of the most put together, composed, clutch PGs ever.
And only gave a shit about himself while he played for Portland and kept them from winning titles

ive been a pistons fan since i was 9 years old. sheed was my favorite player growing up when he was in portland. i dont think theres too many people in the world that ever had the experience of having your favorite player being traded to your favorite team and then seeing them win a championship. there will never be another team like that 04 squad. memphis tried but there was no comparison.

dlawson688 Wallace didn't really explode until Game 4. (Don't get me wrong, Pistons definitely needed him to play stretch 4). Chauncey consistently produced on offense to help Pistons close out the games. Big Ben locked up the interior (and contributed enough enough on offense with his 15 ft mid-range jumper).

This was one of my favorite years for NBA basketball, and very soon after stopped watching altogether. When the Pistons got totally and obviously screwed against the Celtics, I was done. It was clear that the league didn't want the Pistons dominating anymore. There were so many blatant bad calls in that series, I had friends/fans of various other teams calling me to tell me the Pistons got screwed.
I started telling people the league was crooked, and was told I was just a conspiracy theorist. But of course we all know now that an NBA ref admitted the league dictates outcomes. He was fixing games. A handful of officials got busted for gambling. And Michael Francese, famous mobster, admitted to having the NBA under Mafia control.
The Pistons had a couple more championships in them. But the league didn't want that market to dominate.

Pistons last finals appearance was 2005, but they were close to facing the lakers in 2008 when they made it to the ECF, and when the lakers made it to the finals in 2009 and 2010 the pistons already broke up their team.
