It honestly made me cry when I heard that the Eshop was closing. Of course, this was inevitable but why so soon? Being an early 3DS adopter, it makes me kind of sad that they are going to close a part of my childhood. I have also bought as many exclusive titles as I could before time runs out which seems stupid when they should have put these titles on newer consoles. It seems like a cruel joke that Nintendo is hiding a bunch of games that we can't reach without either pirating or paying a shit ton of money. Rest in peace 3DS and Wii U Eshop, you will be missed.

What's interesting to me is that Pokemon Bank will go down, thus transferring from 3DS to Switch will no longer be possible. It's just like back with the Gameboy Advance where lack of connectivity to the Gameboy Color made transferring from gens 1 and 2 to gen 3 impossible. Back then, the solution was to release remakes, Fire Red and Leaf Green. Something tells me they're going to make Kalos DLC or something.

On the note of Fire Emblem Fates, there is three paths. You can buy one physical copy of Birthright or Conquest, but the carts with the third route "Revelations" are rare and expensive because there special. So that means once the eshop closes, you will lose access to the cheapest method to buy the third path, which is pratically exclusively digital. • @Quasartist

Another very important thing to make note of is that with the closure of the e-shop, a myriad of Gameboy Advance games are gonna be off the table too. The Legend of Zelda: The MInish Cap, Fire Emblem and Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, Metroid Fusion, and a handful of other flagship titles are ludicrously expensive on the second hand market right now and the e-shop is the only way to play them on official Nintendo hardware without breaking the bank, or without jailbreaking your system. It's a huge problem that will only get worse after March when the shop is down for good. I've been tackling myself for the last couple of months by getting a $10 e-shop card every other week or so (you can add funds on your Switch and use them on your 3DS as long as it's the same account), and I highly recommend you do the same. The games on the e-shop are very cheap at face value, but when you decide that you want 13 or so, suddenly it becomes quite a mountain to climb financially. Definitely don't wait to cash in, buy a little at a time to make sure you get everything you're after.
Great video, very informative. I didn't even consider the thought that with the 3DS becoming completely unsupported, it's going to be very important to pick up physical copies of the newer games that I skipped like the new Metroid and Bravely Default 2.

I've been picking up a title every other week or so. I've been grabbing physical games more than digital ones for now because those prices will skyrocket as soon as the eShop shuts, and they're Nintendo games so they haven't necessarily decreased in price much since release

    • @Quasartist

@@thevulture3776 I wish I could say the same for the physical games. The 3DS game selection around here is already so scarce, it's crazy. My local Gamestops don't even have a section for them anymore so it's all second-hand market, with many of the games not being complete-in-box so you have to worry about fakes and scalpers, especially considering how cheap the shovelware games are vs how easy it is to make fakes of DS games. The DS family was such a strong line of systems and I'm honestly really sad to see them go, as well as frustrated.

I don’t even have that big of hands but they start feeling cramped like an hour into play. I just wish they still made quality grips still like they do for the Switch.
Having said all that, I love all my handhelds. Once we were all stuck inside, I started going nuts on eBay/thrifting/craigslist. I went from owning zero handhelds besides the Switch and the OG Gameboy to having 6 3DSs, 2 DSs, and a PS Vita. They are all cool in their own way but a hacked 3DS is probably the most bad ass handheld ever. There are just so many games that were made for the DS/3DS that will never get ported. You can't really blame people for caring about the 3DS less after 2015/2016, the quality of titles wasn't very high due to Nintendo's teams being stretched across development for games for the 3DS, Wii U, Switch and Mobile simultaneously. Plus Nintendo isn't new to shutting down their digital storefronts, the Wii Shopping Channel was shut down and a ton of Wii Ware games have become unavailable through legitimate means

  • @giglebebo

I agree with almost every game on the list, but I fully disagree with Majora's Mask 3D.
It's the worst version by far and the only thing that's going for it are the graphics and some QoL with the menus.
It unfortunately changes a LOT of the gameplay for the worse, such as Zora Swimming using the magic meter for some baffling reason, slowing the game to a crawl. The Deku Spin also doesn't maintain your momentum anymore. But they do not change the level design to make up for it, so it just feels extremely clunky.
The bosses also suffer minor to major changes for the worse.
I truly despise the 3D version of Majora's Mask and I have no clue why they made those changes.
I highly recommend the N64 version or a modded 3DS Version with a restoration patch, so you have the best of both worlds.
And yes, please Homebrew your 3DS, just do it.

    • @stanzacosmi

      edit fixed a typo
a good explanation for why those changes were made was becauyse the original was made in 1 year, so it was just "Lets just take what we threw at the wall" leading to very stressful development. as such ao numa went in with an already negative mindset because he didn't like the end result to begin with, going so far as to say he wished fans would forget majoras mask existed as a game. Deku scrub was probably "I fell off because of how instant the deku's acceleration is. lets nerf it" zora swimming was probably "Its so hard to control the zora, lets give it an easy control method as the default" Bosses were to match the previous and future games boss style with set patterns of how you approach them with glaringly obvious weak points.
When it came to asking for a majoras mask remake, I personally was like "If a dev hates their game, they're going to make changhes fans don't like. don't invoke the monkeys paw.

I understand being upset, but you can't realistically expect nintendo to support a service that only a handful of people are actually using.
Seriously, when a company stops supporting their product, just pirate. You're not doing anything wrong because they're literally not giving you a choice, and sometimes that's just how it is.
Once again, just pirate. It's easy to sit there complaining that certain games are impossible to find, but just homwbrew your 3ds (it's so easy I've been doing it since I was in middle school and had never owned a computer) and download the hshop. Any game you want a click of a button away.
