    Looked and sounded like the 125 was faster, but he actually pulled a faster lap on the 250F. Probably more due to rider comfort than anything. I would expect him to ride his own bike faster than a borrowed one, but given time to adjust and learn how to maximize the lighter weight of the 2 stroke and keep it piped, he would likely erase that time difference in a few weeks. Arguing between these two bikes is pointless. A good rider will learn how to maximize the strengths and minimize the weaknesses of ANY bike they are on, given enough time and experience on them. I've owned KTMs in both 2 and 4 stroke flavor. I love the weight, handling, sound and smell of 2 strokes personally, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy another 4 either. They are both good bikes... just different in personality.

      And that's really just down to the age. I think, if you put him on a KTM 125, with modern brakes and suspension (and even more power) it wouldn't even be close. Me personally, it's a tough call.

      @@charlesfisher3983 yeah he thought that because he couldn't engine brake like he did on the 4T. Brakes are fine, maybe different but anyone who rides 4T would be used to braking power along with engine braking.. take away that much engine braking on the 2T and anyone would feel different braking in a corner. I'm sure if he got used to it more he would come into the corner just as fast or faster on the 2T. Actually he did just that.. came in hot, found way less engine braking and went oohooh I need to brake fast.. hence idea of poor brakes. Funny because he hit the corners harder on the 2T Imo than he did when relying on the 4T engine braking and then the low pull power to make up for slow corner speed. Doesn't matter either way, run what you brung and have fun

    I have both an 2009 YZF450 and 2009 YZ250. I enjoy both. The best way I can describe it is the 4 stroke is easier to go fast on but the 2 stroke is much more fun. It’s easy to be “lazy” on a 4 stroke. The 2 stroke is much more “involved”, if you will. And let’s be honest, NOTHING sounds a good as a 2 stroke at full throttle ripping around the track.

    I read an article by some dirt bike magazine back in 2008, by then most pros had been on 250f’s for a few years, they got all the new 125 strokes and all the new 250 4 strokes and a heap of test riders with varied skill level, ALL the test riders predicted that they would do their fastest lap on a 250f,
    ALL the test riders thought they DID their fastest lap on a 250f after the test...
    Yet every test rider, even though the majority were more used to, felt more comfortable on, felt more confident on and had recently owned and ridden 250f’s, EVERY single test rider, amateur to pro posted their quickest lap of the day on a 125. Surprised me.

      4 strokes = power in the low end. 2 strokes = power in the high. Therefore 4 strokes are better when cornering a lot, where 2 strokes are better if you want to go fast in a straight line.
      For dirt bikes i prefer 2 stroke because of the sound and the power, and because to me, the sound of a 4 stroke suits a quad better than a dirt bike.

There's trade offs on both but all are a blast. I'm a 2 stroke guy, but ... I just love dirt bikes and would like to have a 4 stroke. I have 4 500s a 125 and a 85. the 85 was for my nephews but they never got into it. Weird right? What kid wouldn't want to jump on a dirt bike? • @brianrichard1768
    @brianrichard1768 Před 5 lety +37

    Smaller cc 2 strokes require more skill to be fast, you have to stay on the pipe and the lack of engine braking teach better brake control. The 4 strokes jump better (more internal rotating mass) and have torque that the smokers lack but on the downside they weigh more and rebuild cost are far greater. I have owned both for many years and hands down my fav is the YZ 125. At 200 lbs it's super light but to be fast you have to make her sing.

      @@elliehall6419 Hey Eddie, it depends a lot on what you plan on doing. If you want to go straight into racing, I'd say start off with a 250, very good bike to learn on, and once you do, the 250 4 stroke is a great bike to race on and send you up the motocross ranks. If you're just looking to have some fun, maybe hit the track once a week and some trails here and there, the 125 2 stroke is definitely the more fun option to go with. If you want an honest opinion, I would go with a 125 2 stroke, it will demand you to really get good at shifting and handling that power, making the transition to a 4 stroke so much easier if you eventually plan on doing so. I personally ride a 2019 Husqy 125 and race it!

      because you have no brain. The 2 strokes give power every time the piston travels up. The 4 strokes give power every 2 crankshaft rotations. You say that "Just the fact that 250 two strokes race with the 450 four strokes tells you that two strokes are faster." Of course they do because because the 2 strokes give power every time the piston travels up so 4 strokes have more CC in order to produce that power.

      synchro-mesh gearboxes were DESIGNED to enable you to clutchless shift!
      I have a 17 year old Honda CR, still on same gearbox, and ive never used the clutch to shift in its entire life!

      Snitchy1989 rip ur clutch plates

    • @Snitchy1989
      @Snitchy1989 Před 6 lety +37

      why RIP clutch plates? clutches are wear and tear.. if your not usng the clutch to shift gears, then the clutch plates arent having to seperate and make contact again thousands of times..
      So technically, its making the clutch plates last longer???
      Also, clutch thrust bearings arent put under pressure from clutch pulls, and nor are the clutch pressure plate springs.... So actually, Clutchless shifting, Gives longer life to all parts in the clutch basket...
      Anyway.. i ride a 2 stroke, Where clutch slips are required, so Who actually really cares about clutch plate life? When they are cheap enough, and extremely easy to replace...
      (btw, my clutches last 2-3 years which is about average with the amount of hours i put on my bike, and thats clutchless shifting)...
      Please be sure to learn exactly how the internals of clutches work, before commenting, because clearly you know jack shit about them, if you think clutchless shifting wears them out quicker... "clutch-less" means No clutch... there for, your not using it, to wear it out.... but thanks for the LOL..

    Both of my trail bikes are 4 strokes (Honda 500 and a Honda 185), but my 2 stroke 80cc will smoke either of them IF it doesn't break down that is.

    250 2 stroke vs 250 4 stroke

  • @theblytonian3906
    @theblytonian3906 Před 4 lety

    Always a polarising subject. Any noddy not a total waste of space just waiting for a time and place for the next incident/accident to happen can ride a 4-stroke reasonably well. Same doesn't apply to 2-strokes. Challenges are greater, but so are the rewards as perceived by me. Unfortunately that choice in terms of machine availability is now predominantly a thing of the past for sport riding. Having ridden both in the dirt (leisure), street and track for a long, long long time, I'm definitely a 2 stroke man by preference. But I ride and my choice ride is chosen for max enjoyment, not max comp. placing result in 2020 or rules dictated by spectator need to identify with what's being sold on the street however remote. e.g. MotoGP vs former 500GP. I still think some of the most exciting racing ever to be witnessed was with up and comers in the former 250GP class when it was 2 stroke even though the 500GP naturally held the series glory for the masses.
