Lyrics
Well c'mon darlin'
The stars are burning bright
C'mon now darlin'
Our luck is good tonight -
'Cause we're the all time winners
In the all time loser's game
Yea we're the all time winners
And here we go again
The king & queen of America...
Yea it's the king of nothing
And the queen of rage
With a pile of confusion
Upon a glittering stage
You know we never did anything
To make ourselves feel proud
You know we never did anything
So let's play it loud
Let's hear it for the -
King & queen of America...
So c'mon darlin'
There's a big moon in the sky -
We're gonna build
A little satellite -
We're gonna make it fly...
We're gonna send it up to heaven
All the way up to the stars
And all of them aliens
Are gonna find out
Who we are -
We're talkin' 'bout the
King & queen of America - Hudba
Extremely underrated song! Eurythmics are a wonder to the world!
I completely agrees. The best song of them. I love Annies voice!
'We're the all-time winners, in the all-time loser's game'. Wow
One of the most underrated songs there is!
I know
Her voice is great, their compositions of their songs are excellent but her presence is commanding and her portrayals in her videos is brilliant. What an amazing talent.
🎉 🎉 🎉 Congratulations to Annie and Dave of Eurythmics for their induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame earlier this year. There are cool pictures on-line.
Also, congratulations to Eurythmics for their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Nov. 2022 which is soon now. 🏆
Edit: Ceremony is in LA on Nov. 5, 2022 to be broadcast at a later date on HBO.
This is timeless - Lennox would be a superb actress, her range of facial expressiveness is astonishing.
The Oscar fit very well for her..... czcams.com/video/Uhpu2N4rQZM/video.html
Yep.
Second that! Striking with a capital S
Far ahead of its time. This song describes America today. Donald and Melania are the *king and the queen of America*.
The same thing could have been said about the Clintons, George and Laura Bush, etc
Harry and Megan?
Yeah a brilliant social commentary here in a catchy song
Such a massively underrated song.
It's probably been said already but Annie looks good in anything
Энни Леннокс могла бы стать великой актрисой.
Это мой первый комментарий на CZcams!
Anne Lennox could have been a great actress.
Absolutely!
She was in Revolution , a long forgotten Al Pacino movie of the 1980s. The film was a critical and box-office disaster
Annie*
She is :) She played a few smaller roles.
@@NorthSea_1981 I believe too.
I used to listen to this song again and again when I was a teenager and I never understood how strong it was!
I did too. It is weird how I learned years later. I thought it was only me that did this.
Arlington cemetery. Iconic image of 80's videos.
Эту композицию можно слушать вечно Они бесподобны Едкая и верная сатира
Как ты четко все понял!
omg I miss Dave and Annie’s videos so much! Haven’t seen this in ages
There just doesn't seem to be anything like them much anymore, eh? They're so good!
Eurythmics were FANTASTIC!
They still are and always will be :) .
I remember this song from my childhood in the USSR...
This song and video are not really a critique of everything about the United States. They are not saying that the United States is a terrible place. This song is a critique of THE KING AND QUEEN of America. This video is a succession of couples - Marilyn and Elvis; pat Sajak and Vanna White; The cheerleader and the quarterback, etc. - that the American public often idolizes, but who may not actually deserve such a reverence because they are ultimately “the king of nothing and the queen of rage, with a pile of confusion upon a glittering stage.” This song is basically saying that the American public needs to find more worthy heroes.
Americans worship mediocrity because most of them seek mediocrity.
Exactly!
Can we get a 4K remaster of this one please?

Really does a good job describing our country. ROFL
Americans won't get the irony, America entirely corrupt is the message, still nothing has altered
@@user-bo2tc4dv9p I think may Americans did, hence this songs lack of success here.
Annie Lennox hangja fantasztikus és ez a szám és a lemez is szuper jó!
THIS SONG IS JUST SO FRIGGIN AWESOME!!! SUCH AN UNDERRATED SONG!!
This video hits the American nail right on its proverbial head. So, flippin' true. Way to go, Eurythmics!!!
dereka79 God bless America! 👌🏻🐸🇺🇸❄️😂
I don't get it. What it is about?
@@randomuser2461 Americans are so caught up in their own little worlds, that they are not aware of the real world around them, or the nation itself. Because of this lack of awareness, the people of America have paid a terrible cost. (example: the acres of crosses at Normandy depicted in the music video).
@@LaptopLarry330 Where do you live exactly??? I am in the US and have been a big Eurythmics fan for many years. I do understand the meaning of this song, as it applies to some American culture. However, I object to your interpretation of the graves of WWII US Service members in Normandy resulting from a "lack of awareness". These were brave Americans who volunteered for their country to join the Allies and gave their lives to liberate those who became oppressed by the Axis. I don't think France and other countries liberated by the Allies sees things the way you do. If you were alive at the time and in a country occupied by the Axis (and possibly subjected to torture) you would have had a different perspective.
@@larrycj4382 I am an American. Americans historically have been isolationists. They did not want to be involved in "foreign entanglements". They wanted to live out their lives in peace and harmony. There were some Americans that were worried about what was going on in Europe in the years prior to World War I and World War II, but most Americans did not want to have any involvement in what was going on there. They were focused on doing their jobs and occupations, and taking care of their own families. By not being more proactive as a nation, and being prepared for those wars, America lost a lot of lives, and most of them unnecessarily, in my opinion.
2023 we're all still giving the USA side eye like in this music video.
This is just timeless 🤗🤗
If I could like this a million times, I would
One of the best songs of the band. THE VIDEO !!!!!!!! Cool to sing in its lows and highs!
Really one of their very best. Really great album.
Wow. This video is amazing. Annie as Tammy Faye Baker is a riot.
the best damn costume she was in, in this video. LOL
Happy 4th of July
Этот видеоролик - один из лучших. Браво.
Отличная сатира. 💯 попадание.
I have NOT heard it before! How come? Amazing, thrilling, wow!
This song was released near the "end" of the cold war and it's commentary on Americanism wasn't well received, which was a pity as it was spot on. I've always enjoyed it though despite its lack of exposure.
@@tenor1411 1989. Yet now of course we have a reigning King and Queen. Great satirical lyrics and video regardless.
As time goes on this song becomes more relevant
Nothing changes
For those who don't get all the 80s and earlier Americana references...
Mickey & Minnie Mouse, Pat Sajak & Vanna White, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, Ronald & Nancy Reagan, Elvis Presley & Marilyn Monroe, Hugh Hefner & Bunny, Michael Dukakis tank shoot, Jim & Tammy Faye Bakker.
+Bfdidc And Jerry Hall
And do you suppose that the Mr. Universe in the video was portraying Arnold Schwarzenegger?
Bfdidc nice post.
Or the body cult in general
What about Annie with the long pink hair singing? Who was she supposed to be portraying there? And who was Dave supposed to be right next to her?
i love the Tammy Faye impression ..cracks me up!
Thank you! I couldn't figure out who she was impersonating, now it makes sense! LOL
Much more talented than most of today's bands
L❤❤❤❤❤ve this
Underrated track. Love it
I forget how beautiful is is
Annie Lennox -" I never felt I fitted in anywhere, and I still don't. There's no complaint, but it's part of the story-always looking for the tribe, never finding it."
Totally feel this statement 10 months later
The story of my life
@ My sentiments exact.
Sometimes we are just a tribe of one.
She's Scottish, she is always part of a tribe!
it's still working! Choose a character from this videoclip and you can become it - this is what the American dream about! :)
Sad to say, this song and video is as relevant now as it was in the late eighties.
We never did anything to make ourselves feel proud. 2019...?
oh yes!!
And up to date.
Why?
@@stephenhamilton1149 yah, why?
1:33 "You know we never did anything" while we see a shot of what looks like the Normandy American Cemetery. If that's accurate, then my goodness is this wonderfully subversive. This is amazing.
great
The King of America is looking for the Queen of America!
I just thought it was a catchy tune back then! ... Little did I know!.
Love her with long hair!
1989にボストン近郊で仕事してた時にMTVでよくみたよ。大好きな曲です。よくアメリカの事を皮肉っているなあと思って聞いていたよ。
America in shame today.I live there.
Вещь на века!
OMG! Annie in that Tammy Faye lookalike costume! LMFAO!!!!!!!!! Too great!
Love the video. Makes the song better.
So good with the visual. She'd make a good actress too
The Reagan's reference is GOLD
Someone gotta show them
Anie Lennox maybe could have been a great actress in Hollywood ..., if you check the video song
Best Video ever!
Priceless. Just....priceless.
Eurythmics, Annie Lennox, Dave Stewart 2022 🔊
Sublime and brilliant
"I love America more than any other country in this world, and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually."
- James Baldwin
prudent ,😢
The clip, like all of all of their clips is fantastic
great song + video!
God bless, America. 😉
Still the absolute best satire of 1980's America
It's still relevant. America never changes.
totalmente cierto.
@@sweiland75, sadly, so true.
@@sweiland75 Neither Britain.
It is now 2019..what's changed..other than half of the characters would be 230 pounds heavier and off their face on fentanyl and meth.
She always had fabulous lipstick 💋💄
Stanley James She was always a stunningly beautiful woman.
Quite nice to see Dave with a shit eating grin on his face! He’s usually so stoic looking!
None of this would've happened if it wasn't for you..
"'Cause we're the all-time winner in the all-time losing game!" The song is a harsh critique of Americans' obsession with the Cult of Personality, neo-imperialistic military, the facade of Hollywood's dream world, stadium evangelists and consumerism. Don't be fooled by the "upbeat" song and video. The British love satire and irony, and they go over most Americans' heads. Annie did it all the time! 😄
I thought she was Scottish? What country didn't obsess with a cult of personality? I don't see consumerism as a bad thing, it created a lot of awesome things. I believe the military top brass and politicians did a lot of wrong things, not the service men, but in no way imperialistic. America could have been imperialistic if they had wanted to, china yes, America no. Trying to spread democracy is the most you can say about America and I think that is a good thing but generals, politicians, and bureaucrats didn't always go about the right way or for the right reasons. Everything else I agree but still don't see how it's any different the most places in the world in one way or another, just change a thing here or there. I like the beat the characters are great. Dave Stewart looks hotter then I realized especially in the tuxedo and the game show host. Annie looked great in her limousine wig too.
@@shawnsmith2006, Scotland is part of the United Kingdom. I'm not sure how to say that. "People from the UK?"
@shawnsmith2006 , "trying to spread democracy". 🤣 Meanwhile, we're just going to take control of your oil reserve! It's funny how the US only gets excited about spreading democracy in countries that have resources we want.
@@mysticmerman The U.N did as well. Plus you're seeing it too broadly. A lot of the things you would consider doing for the wrong reasons have nothing to do with resources but only to enrich specific individuals. Besides what country doesn't have resources that the modern world needs?
@@mysticmerman Also if America was really imperialistic then they would have already annex Canada and Mexico.
double plus good
Masterpiece!
Awesome track from the awesome Eurythmics ❤️
FINALLY THE VIDEO IS HERE!!
Amazing video and song.
That song from 1984 shows us, nothing has chainged its the same theatre.
1989
"Chainged"? Changed
After reading the comments here I have to say most Americans got it wrong. I have lived and worked in the US (as a European) - and let me tell you. This song IS ABOUT AMERICA. This is how European and others see America. Not about Reaganism, not about any particular thing but the country and culture as a whole. Be humble you Americans;) and look at the video. Me as a European see the US like this and can relate to the lyrics. If and when similar songs are made about my European home country I laugh and most times agree. Americans lack that. Be humble and laugh at yourselves - or is that even possible?
Amazing!
Loved annie lennox
I still do.
A great country America with very bad politics. But if you work hard you will have success like i have had there.Best move i made me and my sister did.The company i worked for in America made me most welcome and made me wealthy for my service.I was greatly admired for my work.
Eurythmics forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We really need a 4K remaster for this video too
best Eurythmics song
I enjoy their humour !
Oh my god, I haven't watched this clip for ages!! I used to watch it on MTV, I was so amazed by the characters portrayed by Eurythmics...
I miss those days...
wow on relevance in 2023.
Супер! The Best !
Hear Annie rip through vocals, 'We're talkin' 'bout the...'
Did you see all the Crosses at the cemetery ?Those were American Soldiers buried in Belgium while fighting to free Europe when they were alive.
... or in Vietnam war.
@@augustlandmesser1520 With all the crosses it looks more like world war 2 ish

What a brave wonderful song and video
Bravo! Dear King and Queen
From italy. Simply the best. 😁🥰😍
Aye, it's almost great again. 2020.
A searing satire but also a way of endearment. In an ironic twist of time, Annie and Dave established their respective homes in Los Angeles, with Dave moving to Nashville later. If you can't win them, join them :-) PS. This from an E* fan since 1983.
I'm surprised to learn that this video actually did get significant play on MTV. Good to know it did.
