Lyrics:
I had to escape
The city was sticky and cruel
Maybe I should have called you first
But I was dying to get to you
I was dreaming while I drove
The long straight road ahead, uh, huh
Could taste your sweet kisses
Your arms open wide
This fever for you is just burning me up inside
I drove all night to get to you
Is that alright
I drove all night
Crept in your room
Woke you from your sleep
To make love to you
Is that alright
I drove all night - Hudba
You never outgrow Cyndi Lauper
So much respect for her
That’s true she is so creative

Ages like a fine wine
Sorry Celine, this one hits the spot!
I absolutely love this song! Brings me right back to the 80’s, the best decade ever!!!!!
1989
100% these songs hit different to nowadays song's Celine dion sang it better but what a tune miss those day's
Roy Orbinson is one of my favorite singers of all time and this version is a proper homage to him. Incredible interpretation by Cindy Lauper
A great song can be song by many people. Celin Deon also recorded this song.
Cyndi's version was released before Roy's. Cyndis in 89. Roy's in 92. Although Roy did record it in 87 as a demo, it never got released until 92 because he had no record contract at the time. Tom Kelly and Billy Steinberg wrote the song trying to capture Roy's style. Which they done perfectly.
My favorite song by Cyndi❤

I listen to this song in 2024 and "till I die, love the music from the 80's
She doesn't get enough praise for her incredible vocal talent.
Sadly underrated....everyone focused on her quirkiness. It overshadowed her immense talent. I'm so glad this generation is rediscovering her.....
Okolo Pierre not underrated by me, born 1980 so it’s the music I remember the most! And since I regularly drive all night it’s fitting 😁
Agreed. She sounds best when she's wailing and really into a song. This for example really suits her. True Colors not so much. She sounds too mousy and sheepish for me when she sings quiet like that... Like my animal metaphors? :oP
I have no problem liking her and I was a grunge/rock type fan. She definitely was underrated due to her antics. But she has a powerful voice and she did this song better than anyone else.
Agreed.
This song makes me want to drive back to the 80’s .. incredibly gifted and a fan still till this day !!!

One of the sexiest songs, in the history of music! One of the best voices in the world...

This woman has an amazing four octave range and I don't think many out there realize it. Such an amazing voice.
Diamanda galás has an 8 octave range..fwiw
@@izzyjones7108 Cyndi Lauper
This person is correct. Ms. Lauper does indeed have an 8 octave voice range & belts it out quite nicely at the end of the song!! She is nothing short of awe inspiring--even among opera talent!!!
Yeah, they don't realize it, because I had to make a friend listen to I'm Gonna Be Strong, and she said jokingly, it's that good? and it's the Girls Just Want To Have Fun singer??? I said YES! lol. I can't believe so many just think of her as that song, when there's this song, Time After Time, All Through The Night, True Colors and more which either hit #1 or came close and are very mature songs. Girls is great, but I'm upset so many forget great music. I'm thrilled though she has had a #1 selling Broadway album, #1 Blues album, and a #1 dance album all in the last 15 yrs! Take that haters!!!!!!
@@JusticeForTheDead Does anyone actually hate Cyndi Lauper? I've never met a single person that does. She's a complete delight.
I cant believe Im 50 years old, have seen this literally hundreds of times over 34 years (its one of my favorites), and I think I just now understood the story in the video:
She never made it.
There was an accident (with the wrecked white car?) and now shes haunting that lonely stretch of desert road in her Chevy coupe and lingering in his apartment near the Vegas strip. She always sees it as she imagined with him sleeping, waiting for her.
Shes still driving.
Dying to get to him.
All night.
Forever.
😮 oh my!
i believe you've hit the nail on the head, the car, the fact she walks like a ghost (see-through) into his room etc. All makes sense now.
@@donnamcmahon251 crock of shit
OMG “But I was dying to get to you.” And she did literally. Also “I was dreaming while I drove” She fell asleep on the wheel while driving all night, dreaming about her lover. “This fever for you is just burning me up inside” I think this is the instant her car crashes, the climax of her fantasy, burning for her lover in her dream while burning in real life from the car crash.
Wow--this adds a whole new dimension to this video for me. Thank you.

Verdade, exatamente isso, a Cyndi é foda, ela é ótima....
Am I the only one who prefers Cyndi’s version to this song over Celine’s version?
Obvious
Not at all... i think Cyndi knocked it out of the park, her voice as we never heard it, the edgy production and the video since it was 1989... it was very “Cyndi” - Celine’s well, it was supposed to serve a different purpose for Chrysler hence the spin of eurodisco. I was 14 in 89 - only now in my 40s I appreciate Cyndi’s artistry... never too late ;)
Cyndi's version gives me chills every time .
Celine and Cyndi are grand although, I actually prefer Rob Orbison's version - he wrote it after all. However, Cyndi and Celine's vocals are just stellar and both deserve praise and do the song more than justice!
EDIT: Apologises, Roy Orbison didn’t write this song as I’ve been told. It was actually written by Tom Kelly and Billy Steinberg.
There is only Cyndi and Roy Orbison!
She has a beautiful strong expressive voice and an imposing presence on stage. Love her, and Roy would have loved her too.
This is song is Amazing.
Hey Cyndi can take any song and make it sound beautiful and Cyndi has a very beautiful voice love Doug from Missouri
Even Roy Orbison himself would praise her version.
Yes yes yes that's a fact peread
Absolutely one of the top 25 best songs of the 1980,s....haunting, have never forgotten it...

there is no original
I thought Roy Orbison did this.
He recorded a demo. From Wikipedia: "a song written and composed by American songwriters Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly and made famous by American singer Cyndi Lauper. The song was originally intended for Roy Orbison, who recorded it in 1987, but his rendition was not released until 1992, after Lauper's version of it had become a top 10 hit on both sides of the Atlantic in 1989"
she not just singing, so wonderfully, her interpretation of this song is mind blowing in every way, what is she doing now? its singing and enacting this drama, its so artful,
i can play it all night long

+Juju Rellama When I listen to her, I often have a marathon session where the album repeats over and over again. I love this song in particular. Its so powerful. To use a Newfoundland colloquialism "She can belt it out of her!" :) I love the power in her voice. And the musical arrangements are great too. I listened to Celine Dion's "interpretation" of this song and I couldn't listen to it all the way through. She was doing her own take but just mangled it somehow. :) I never appreciated Cyndi Lauper's true talent until later on. I realize she's one of my favorites. Blows Madonna, Britney, etc out of the water!

Absolutely wonderful… I love Miss Lauper 🎉💫🎉
Real life betty boop..❤Cyndi
I'm sorry. I know that I'm going to be in the minority on this, but I think this is by far the best version ever released. She killed it. As a previous poster said, "This was her most mature and underrated hit." I like it much better than Celine Deon's version. It's so beautifully done. The cello's just put it over the edge. Unbelievably romantic and passionate. I agree - "no one beats Cyndi's performance of this song."
Cyndi's version takes me back to when I was a kid in the 80s the good old days. Celine's can't do that.
I would've loved to hear Elvis Presley sing this song, but Cyndi killed it.
It's one of those songs which Ms. Lauper makes it unique and masterful, Celine may have range but this is more like Ms. Lauper style and domain of genres which makes it unique to hers only & no comes closed to it even Celine.
Well, then, you’re on the inside that is the consensus Cyndi Lauper crushed it
Her songs are full of heart, her voice so emotional, this video very beautiful.

This is one of the gems from the 80's that is overlooked. This song blew me away back in 1989 when it came out and still amazes me almost 30 years later. That woman knows how to sing like nobody's business.
Yep! Cindi sure sang this song way before Celine and Cindi's version is way way way much much much better than Celine's. Song was originally intended for Roy Orbison who recorded it in 1987 a year before his death but wasn't released until 1992. By the time his version was released Cindi who already was very popular and famous sang the song 3 years earlier. Celine only sang her version in 2003.
I Love music.
So this was earlier or Roy Orbisons?
Lorenshyne well, is tricky, but the song was written for Orbison, and he recorded it before anyone else, but since he died so quickly after that, they asked Cindi to release the first version, although Orbison’s was recorded before
Yes and she still knows how to sing like nobody's business. Love Cyndi forever 💜 👌🏼
Cyndi Lauper She grew up in an abusive environment and spent two weeks in the woods alone with her dog after leaving the abusive family. . I grew up in an abusive family and will be the first to say it totally destroys one and makes them open to strange and perverse directions. Kids growing up with strong families are so much more adjusted and don't have to deal with the emotional damage which I deal with on daily basis.

+Rich Jacob who deleted their comments! Yea, same old story. My sisters tell me the same thing, even to point that I was responsible for being too sensitive as twelve year old kid. I'm not a psychologist but all I know is I grew up with extremely low self-esteem. How do you fix that? I was told how worthless and stupid I was
from 11 to 18. I grew up with a volatile father who would slap me across the floor for dropping my fork at the table. Abuse does permanent damage to a kid. Those in the war knew what could happen, even though that probably didn’t make things easier, but a 12 year old kid is an open book and handled wrong???
+Rich Jacob who deleted their comments. Also, what nerve you have for suggesting I didn't already forgive my father. You have absolutely no clue what you're talking about!
Roy Orbison's version is about obsession. Cindy Lauber's version is about desire. Celine Dion's version is about driving.

+giorgos makris You do realize that the great one Celine Dion sang it. I will go with the she is absolutely amazing part. It is like Whitney signing a Dolly Parton song. You can love both versions.
+dla734 Whitney butchered I will always love you. That song shoul be sung as a simple song from a pure heart, and not as the voice-masturbation-ego-trip that Whitney made of it. Same here: Some Songs are not for the main stage, but for the honest face to face Performance.
"I Drove All Night" is a song written and composed by American songwriters Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly and originally intended for Roy Orbison. Orbison recorded the song in 1987, the year before his death, but his version was not released until 1992. Cyndi Lauper soon covered the song and released it as a single for her A Night to Remember album.
That explains why I will forever feel this is the original version. Thank you.

Each interpretation of the song fits the artist and I enjoy listening to each of them. No favorites here unless you ask in the moment and it will be based on my mood: feeling like dancing and belting out lyrics- Celine, feeling like some good modern rock and some fantastic rocker vocals - Cyndi , but for the combo of soulful rock and a banging beat, it’s Roy all the way.
