Billy, you are building a bridge for the convent to live in a new era. You are providing for the transfer of nearly forgotten craftsmen skills to a new generation. Simon is definitely an artist in stonework and plasterwork. Yanis has a good teacher and is learning so much that he can use later. Billie is already getting events for the convent and i don’t know how he stays so calm and on top of everything.

And, let's not forget about them providing the necessary approvals and permits for creating road access to the back of the convent and possible parking; and any other future upgrades to the gardens, greenhouse, etc.
Billy, With Mayor seeing as how the renovation is going, you can more than likely see the mayor promoting the convent and the town ahead of finishing the renovation. So sometime in the near future he is likely to come and ask if the town can hold fete at the convent with part of the procedes coming into the convent to assist with the renovation / restoration.
Thank you for the care and empathy you use for this building, and for the wonderful team you all are. My suggestion is to have a gate that matches the cellar entry handrail to block off the steps. It would open inwards so as not get it the way, and when closed would keep everyone safe. ❤
Billy I think you should include the renovation of the garden into the success of the convent. You could rent it out or have garden venues. People would come. The English and French people have always been crazy about their gardens.
the clean up crew were probably just excited to see what you have done back there. They look like they were too excited to work...nothing like our city crew who usually leave more mess than they started with! I can't believe how good the floor in the hallway looks without that granite piece. I hope Steve will be in to help demo that wooden floor.
where I live in the UK we have brilliant tree workers.. tree surgeons who do the rounds regularly. They do a fantastic job and like the French crew have women in the team too. No reason why not but it still good to see. They are respectful of adjoining properties and polite when I see them around my place. they upkeep a medieval tree belt next to my house which marks the Parish boundary. They do have very high standards and clean up very well.
That's wonderful that the city is looking forward to the convent's completion as much as we are. May surprise you what types of events may be presented to you to hold there.
Once the kitchen and hallway are finished it might be an idea to have an open night, with a few bottles of vino, for the locals to see the place. I’m sure you’ll only get great feedback - you’re doing such a great job.

Billy…what a nice thing for the “tree people,” my apologies, I can’t think for the life of what they are called, to a little extra trimming. I love seeing the walls as they cleared the area. I really think a local TV station should do short segments on what you have accomplished there. Simon, good thinking, to “weather” the stones to make them not have such a straight edge. I see Janis is watching and learning. I literally, “laughed out loud,” Billy, when you said, “should I brush my feet on the way in,” and Simon, said “you may want to brush them all the way out.” Still laughing!

I'm in central California, USA. In our town a private residence with a lot of unused acreage made a horse riding event arena and it is used constantly by the community for many other purposes. I was there for a craft fair, but the owner said it has been used for concerts, boy scouts camping, church BBQs. It was not too much improved from just being a pasture. They did need to improve on parking and vehicle access to the enclosure. Nice rustic wooden fencing looked fine.
Must give a shout out to Alex.. Bravo! And Billy.. you never disappoint your sense of fair play & generosity with everyone you know is to be admired. Your a hard worker & we all know what that gets. How you juggle so much is beyond me… truly admirable. 🏆

I'm thinking that you should consider a Place of Honor for all of the people working on it in the form of a Plaque with all their names on it also a Photo wall of each of them working on a certain part of the Convent. That's great to see the town and Major behind all your efforts at the Convent. And they cut up the storm broken tree. We liked Yanis' shovel guitar and wondered what song he was thinking of.
I'm not into the construction business and I had no idea what goes in it. I always thought construction workers were laborers who mix things, measure and stack them up on top of each other. Especially in America where everything is already prefabricated and they just assemble. However, Simon opened my eyes. I'm in awe of this man. He is a real artist. Meticulous, sophisticated, and skilled. It doesn't hurt that he is funny and a show-off. I love watching his work. I'd love to see what he does with his house.
I think part of it is that Europe has so many very ancient buildings that are worth preserving in as close to their original state as possible, that artisans like Simon exist, to keep those traditions and beautiful old buildings alive. You need to be inventive and think outside the box very frequently.
Dear Billy and all your helpers I am enjoying your progress so much on the convent. The jewel of the building is coming alive more each day and I can almost feel the buildings excitement.. Such good news from the town Mayor. It’s a plus that he is pleased with all you are doing in renovating this historic building. Simon is a great teacher and patient with how he explains and encourages Ennis who has leaned a lot in a short time. Hey Billy, I’m going to state the obvious here and say that it is inspiring to see all the plastering and stonework go in with such expert hands. Giannis is such an eager hard worker. It’s very impressive to watch him grow. Perhaps more important that is that I want to complement you on your videos and the quality thereof, Alex is doing a great job with the videography, the editing is superb, the music is appropriate, and you, Billy are doing a fantastic job of keeping us interested. I also hope that Simon does a channel or co-opts time on Billy’s channel. He is a wonderful teacher for Yannis , Earnest and all of us. The railing for the basement staircase should look very nice. It’s easy to see you have a good eye for detail and beauty, plus functionality. Ryan is a perfect addition as your extra eyes, while you are not there. Extremely important to an investment of this magnitude- but of course, you already thought of that.
Another reason why you are the absolute right person to be taking on the renovation of the Convent! That the powers that be can see what you are doing and want to get on the “train” with you and use the Convent as a venue for all the townspeople to use. What a wonderful space it will be and a real solid investment of resources…. Congrats, Billy! Everyone should be so proud of what you are accomplishing..

If you concentrate with ground floor first that would be great for renting out for events and while money is coming in you can do bedrooms. Maybe clear out cellar and put in lights for extra venue/bar?

After the kitchen, put the bank/bar assembly in and then the Library with as many books as you can get. Tapa's and dinner in those places will (I think) draw many people in and will be great gathering places for events. G can get the events rolling and then you have a great place for everyone to relax in the evening or maybe before a day journey. This is going to be great. Also tell Michael to get the greenhouse finished and buy from other locals for a garden to table food service.
Billy at least you have somesomeone who is willing to use the convent when it's finished and it's the local community and authorities for functions and the rooms on the upper levels could be used as hotel rooms.

That's great to see the town and Major behind all your efforts at the Convent. And they cut up the storm broken tree. We liked Yanis' shovel guitar and wondered what song he was thinking of.
I'm not into the construction business and I had no idea what goes in it. I always thought construction workers were laborers who mix things, measure and stack them up on top of each other. Especially in America where everything is already prefabricated and they just assemble. However, Simon opened my eyes. I'm in awe of this man. He is a real artist. Meticulous, sophisticated, and skilled. It doesn't hurt that he is funny and a show-off. I love watching his work. I'd love to see what he does with his house.
I think part of it is that Europe has so many very ancient buildings that are worth preserving in as close to their original state as possible, that artisans like Simon exist, to keep those traditions and beautiful old buildings alive. You need to be inventive and think outside the box very frequently.

Hey Billy, I’m going to state the obvious here and say that it is inspiring to see all the plastering and stonework go in with such expert hands. Giannis is such an eager hard worker. It’s very impressive to watch him grow. Perhaps more important that is that I want to complement you on your videos and the quality thereof, Alex is doing a great job with the videography, the editing is superb, the music is appropriate, and you, Billy are doing a fantastic job of keeping us interested. I also hope that Simon does a channel or co-opts time on Billy’s channel. He is a wonderful teacher for Yannis , Earnest and all of us. Simon’s attention to detail is like Alex’s attention to filming beauty. Good to hear the city is willing to use the facilities after you have done all the hard work. It will be good for the residents to see the commitment to the history during the remodel.

Simon is great, love to hear his insights about plastering, where was he when I owned my farm and had to point all the outbuildings. We were flying by the seat of our pants. How about keeping Simon around for his brief insights. Just a suggestion!
The railing for the basement staircase should look very nice. It’s easy to see you have a good eye for detail and beauty, plus functionality. Ryan is a perfect addition as your extra eyes, while you are not there. Extremely important to an investment of this magnitude- but of course, you already thought of that.

Another reason why you are the absolute right person to be taking on the renovation of the Convent! That the powers that be can see what you are doing and want to get on the “train” with you and use the Convent as a venue for all the townspeople to use. What a wonderful space it will be and a real solid investment of resources…. Congrats, Billy! Everyone should be so proud of what you are accomplishing..

If you concentrate with ground floor first that would be great for renting out for events and while money is coming in you can do bedrooms. Maybe clear out cellar and put in lights for extra venue/bar?

Billy, why take up the wood floor? It would look beautiful sanded, stained, and finished with a sheen surface.
Good news about the council, are you able to get some sort of grant, maybe the town could do some fund raising or something to help with renovations.

After the kitchen, put the bank/bar assembly in and then the Library with as many books as you can get. Tapa's and dinner in those places will (I think) draw many people in and will be great gathering places for events. G can get the events rolling and then you have a great place for everyone to relax in the evening or maybe before a day journey. This is going to be great. Also tell Michael to get the greenhouse finished and buy from other locals for a garden to table food service.
Billy at least you have somesomeone who is willing to use the convent when it's finished and it's the local community and authorities for functions and the rooms on the upper levels could be used as hotel rooms.
