- At only sixteen years old, Josef Lewkowicz became a number, prisoner 85314. Following the Nazi invasion of Poland, he and his father were separated from their family and herded to the Kraków-Plaszów concentration camp. Forced to carry out hard labour in brutal conditions, and to live under the constant threat of extreme violence and sudden death, before the war was over Josef would witness the unique horrors of six of the most notorious Nazi concentration camps, including Auschwitz, Mauthausen and Ebensee.
This interview was pre-recorded and did not take place on a weekend.
Naftali Schiff and Jonathan Kalmus from JRoots are credited with the discovery and verification of Josef Lewkowicz’s story.

"We're short on time"
MF! He's 92! You're short on time?!
Listen to whatever he wants to say for as many hours as he wants to talk
I could not agree more
Longer interview here czcams.com/video/j_uVMx6vmTE/video.html
👍
He had to leave! I could have listened to him forever.
EXACTLY!! Thank you for saying this! TIMES MEDIA, figure it out!!!
Give this dear man more time to tell his story give him respect let him talk
Exactly. I hated when the interviewer interrupted him and asked him to talk about his experience of the liberation when he was trying to talk about his experience in the cattle cars going to Auschwitz and only 25 of them survive out of 160.
@@chanteloconnell8919 Absolutely. The interviewer is very indecent, doesn't respect the gentleman's way to talk. He constantly forces him canalizeing the dialogue in the way the interviewer wants, longing for "the top" of a story. Disgusting.
Yes, please. U wanted him to tell me what YOU felt was important. I wanted to hear what this SURVIVOR felt was important. I had to stop listening bc of ur interruptions and disrespect.
This absolutely incredible man deserves more than 38 minutes of our time. His story is so incredible he should have a full length movie based on his life.
@Peter B idiot; that was how long ago, and you checked his body under his clothing? Only the very strong survived; look at his body type; you would not have....
he has written a memoir...
@@peterb1534 what a c*nt! proof antisemites will always live in their self made sewers... ; that was how long ago, and you checked his body under his clothing? Only the very strong survived; look at his body type; volk like you would not have....
@@peterb1534 So he's lying 🙄
Please give this man way more time to tell his story.
I think the video time ran out
No, there's such a thing called, 'editing'. Apparently he had a better date elsewhere. 😢
It's a bit of shame that you didn't have more time for this interview. The old man clearly had a lot more to tell.
He has written a book The Survivor: How I Survived Six Concentration Camps
Absolutely!! Such a privilege to hear from this man for whatever time is left to him and to rush him in this manner felt disrespectful toward both his story and him.
Yeah I wasn’t a fan of the rushed approach
@@sroy9789 I would love to read this book as I think it will be informative and inspiring… but the Kindle pricing is rather hectic for me.
There’s a good chance you could find his whole interview in the USC Shoah project. Search his name and you may get lucky. The Shoah Project would absolutely have wanted to speak to him.
God bless you Josef for telling this painful story. My ancestors in Poland
helped to hide some Jewish families
during the war and risked their lives in doing so, which makes me very proud of my heritage. We must stand up to the antisemitism that is escalating around the world. Every person makes a difference. Shalom.
@Pokey my German Oma saved her jewish neighbor ,hid her in her woodpile for 11 days until the woman could flee to England w false documents ..God bless all the heroes of the Holocaust
You might want to share your story with Yad Vashem in Jerusalem so they can be listed and honored amongst the “Righteous Gentiles”- non-Jews who helped save Jews.
As a second generation Holocaust survivor, I want to thank your family for their heroic acts of helping Jewish people, my father family came from Austria and immigrated to Romania to escape the Nazis, but the Nazis entered Romania as well , only my father and his mom survived after being in the camps and all .. we are to never forget, history tend to repeat…🙏🕊💗
@@Estiallina “righteous gentiles” 😂
Just listen to the arrogance and pomposity of that supposedly honourable title. So, pray tell, if these happy few are “righteous gentiles”, how do you think they view the rest of us?
Are you familiar with the Jewish slur, “goyim”? Care to answer that? Or will you just run from the glaring inconsistency and call me an “anti-semite”?
God Bless your family members. When you save one person- you have saved a world 🌎. ♥️ 🙏
The poor man wanted to talk ,and didn't let him talk 😔
Exactly. And isn't this not a kind of "modern de- humanization" maybe like a "slight" atrocity of the old times??? It' s kind of schizophrenic to conduct an interview like this...
God bless you sir. I am a grandson of a Holocaust survivor. The world must never forget.
I can never ignore this kind of interview, may they Rest In Peace
I felt so sad during this interview that this incredible man couldn’t tell his story the way he wanted to. I wish this was a series of interviews so he was free to tell his experiences as he would like.
The point is that @timesradio did not care. I think his testimonial is available on the Shoah channel, Steven Spielberg's foundation. It's FAR more reputable and courteous to survivors that this trash channel.
I feel the same way. Let the man talk!
His jacket lapel has the word 'remember' in Hebrew.
Very rare interviewee able to describe the horrors lucidly and with feeling. Shame he was not given more time. Survivors are a dying breed and we still have much to learn from them.
It's absolutely disrespectful.
how@@TrueCrimeSurvivors
Fantastic man and what a story and lesson to tell. Its such a shame he was rushed at the end. He should be allowed to talk for as long as he wants. He is one of the last eye-witnesses and soon there will be none of them.
Josef, you're a brave and strong person. I wish the interviewer would have let Josef tell his full story. He rushed him to liberation, but I think his whole story should have been told. Josef, you are remembered and honored. Always keep love in your heart so it doesn't grow into hate so we don't have a repeat of the Holocaust. It was like evil was realsed on to earth, but today in my neighborhood, there are Jewish schools and Jewish people walking in the neighbohood. The Nazis didn't win, they lost because they became hunted and people are repulsed by their crimes. Jewish people are thriving and surving, so take that Nazis you're the losers in every respect of the word.
thanks for you safe YESHUA
Les nouveaux nazis sont les islamistes radicaux !!!!!!
So would I, wish he could have told his full story. Unfortunately Times Radio is a radio station with time limits on their broadcasts, so we probably has to search for such an interview elsewhere.
What a wonderful man and i am ashamed of what humans are capable of. Great interview
Incredible story. I really enjoyed listening to him tell it. Thanks to him. God bless this man, his family and their future. NEVER FORGET!!! 💕❤️💕❤️
Hmmm I remember you, if I remember I said look at Russia
The guy is telling a story happened more than half a century ago with such details! I barely remember what I had for lunch yesterday!
This man is an absolute hero, and I hope he is rewarded in heaven for all that he has suffered and accomplish by telling his story.
This guy survived SIX?! SIX DEATH CAMPS?! To be that tough? He’s basically like Batman or Captain America or something!
uh......yeah.....
He needed more time to talk....May God Bless Him....
Very good and interesting interview. It is so important that we continuesly remember these atrocities so we can do our best to try to prevent them from happening.
The interviewer was HORRIBLE AND UNPROFESSIONAL in almost every facet. He constantly interrupted the gentleman, talked over him, and derailed him sequence-wise, never allowing him to share the story his own way. To call this a "great interview" is completely absurd.
The interviewee*** DESERVED MUCH MORE RESPECT. PERIOD .
@@roofking234 If it is "completely absurd" to call this a "great" interview I suggest you post that comment in response to someone who did. I chose another word and my choise was on purpose.
I watched the interview again now. From the interviewer I witnessed no "derailing" and very little interruption, each time rather to stay on track (or rail), or at a point to mention they had limited time. Letting the interviewed talk completely freely wothout any interruption at all could have led to a much smaller part of his story being told, for lack of time.
During some random parts, totalling about one third, of the interview I tried to write down how many seconds each were talking; Josef, the interviewed, accounted for more than 97% of the time, the interviewer less than 3%. In my view that is giving the interviewed much time to tell his story, within the time limit.
I witnessed very few and brief incidents of any "talking over" by the interviewer, not counting a "yes" here and there, simply meaning "I am still listening". Again, an interviewer must sometimes steer the interviewed back on track to make the whole story fit within any time limit they have.
Time is an issue when an interview has to fit within a schedule for a radio. As Times Radio is first of all a radio station, I suspect this interview was primarily made for radio. Times Radio often upload such broadcasts on CZcams as well to give the audience the possibility of commenting.
I do agree with all commentors who wish to see Josef interviewed with all the time he needs, without time limits, but then we will probably hope to see it done by some other channel that does not have such time limits, which Times Radio often does.
It could also be worth trying to see if maybe he wrote a book?
Now having watched the interview again, I find it interesting, and I still think it was good.
Lovely man I've been talking to other survivors of the camps & the stories are a part of history which we should never forget & tell the young people of it 😥😥
This 96 year old gentleman, Joseph, really deserves a hearty applause, as he persisted and emerged alive from not one or two, but SIX camps !!
Wish that he was allowed to speak in detail, of his harrowing experiences, may be in two or three sessions.
Would like to read his book, but it is not easy to find the book.
Also subtitles in English would be welcome, since I could not understand some of his words.
@@peterb1534 It sounds like your mindset is one that matches the German commandant’s and the staff at the concentration camps. I’m only 15 minutes into his video and judging from what he’s said already, I can’t imagine why you would say something like that. Shame on you. Asking if he got to swim in the pool or act in the acting troupe?? Something is wrong with you and you’re just acting it out here online… on a holocaust survivor’s video.
I wish this man had been given more time to tell his story! Why the rush?
I’ve read the book and the way he describes the love of his poor wife will remain with me. God bless.
I've been to Plaszow camp site. Today it is a country park/ nature reserve. There are signs and memorials dotted around so you can't forget what the place was during the war. It is now a place of peace and reflection. I've also been to Amon Goeth's villa and the Gestapo HQ (The Grey House) on the edge of Plaszow camp. Huge respect to this gentleman for reliving his awful experience.
What a heroic man!!!
Can he be interviewed again... sad it was rushed at the end.. he is one of the last survivors .❤
What an incredible story of survival during those dark days of hatred and violence. The moment I saw the reference to Plaszow and Amon Goth, it immediately reminded me of Schindler's List. Thank you Times Radio for sharing this interview with one of the few remaining survivors and hero's of that generation. We must never forget - ever.
Schindler's List was brilliant!
Josef was very fortunate to survive Amon Goth when thousands of other people weren’t so fortunate and I am glad that he was able to bring his tormentor to justice for what he did to him. May those who Goth killed along with the millions of other innocent people who were killed during the Holocaust rest in peace.
What a lovely man who has been through horrors we can only imagine
I’m sad that he had to be rushed, he has so much to tell
Couldn’t you have don’t this interview in 2 parts? I’m sure we would all love to hear his WHOLE story
What a story. This man needed more time to tell his story.
Honestly. If this interview was 5 hours long I would have listened to it all. We need to hear his full story.
Bad interview, that man shouldn't interview anyone 😪 😕
Completely agree, Very disrespectful to rush this man's story.
I completely agree, this gentleman wanted to share so much more than he was able. I would really love to here him speak of all he has experienced. He is full of history just waiting to be told...
Unbelievable sharp for a 96 year old. Hope I go that way 💪
You will. 🙏❤️
A sensitive subject dealt with in a rushed manner. There was so much more Josef Lekowicz had to say but was rushed to just gloss over leaving those details out of this interview. We need to listen to people like Josef regardless of how much or how little they have to tell us. The number of survivors gets less and less each year. As they die, so do the opportunities to hear what they went through, and to discuss what they saw so we have a record of this most horrific time.
It’s worse than I ever would have imagined.I listened to a man who who survived the most horrible torture. Six million people. 😢😢😢😢
exactly!
Stop interrupting and let him talk...
If I could be 5% as courageous and brave as this man I would be happy.
Why were you rushing his stories? He should go to somewhere else who will listen to EVERYTHING he has to say about everything he went through and witnessed. He has lots more to tell and he needs to tell it. I hope he finds someone that will sit down and interview him and let him tell it all with out being rushed. Maybe he should write a book. I would surely buy it. I want to know everything he went through and witnessed. 👍🏻👑🌹❤️
You need to make a series of this amazing man’s stories. They should be shown in schools all over the world. It is so easy to sanitize the past. The German International schools all over the world should put more emphasis on the past. There is a lack of depth to influence youngsters on the madness of war and man’s inhumanity to man.
Without instilling the memory of the brutality of the past we are doomed to repeat it. Look at Ukraine.
German schools in Germany acknowledge and study the holocaust n depth
@@deeznutz8320 they showed the propaganda that lead to it yes
how old is he.We are eternally blessed to have this beautiful man here in the world, and even more so that he is able to tell us his story first hand.
To have lived through such brutal times and survived to tell about them is extraordinary. My step-father was such a survivor as was his ex-wife. their experiences twisted them into suspicious, fearful people. little stories filtered through to me. I don't know that I could've found the strength to live through such times, lose all family and friends, possessions and even personal identity without wanting blood in revenge for such losses. Faith is a wonderful thing-for those who have it. This gentleman is passing on a message, not only a story of his experiences. He's saying - don't ever forget! people are capable of the greatest and most depraved of deeds - friends and neighbours can turn - governments can manipulate populations AND THERE ARE PLENTY OF GULLIBLE PEOPLE WHO WILL OBEY BLINDLY.
I could have listened for hours! Wh 31:06 at do you mean, 'we are short on time!' ... TAKE TIME for this man! This was nothing but an introduction 🤨 what a legend Joseph! Patient with the interviewer, who had a horrible sense of urgency! Shame!
I’m reading his book right now . What this man went through is unbelievable .
I just visited Krakow few weeks back, I spent one day out to read his book; grateful I did.
This fine man is like a living history book and even if his story is dark it is unbelievably interesting to learn from
What a pity you were short of time I enjoyed this lovely man !
Honestly, I felt annoyed by the interviewer’s attitude. This gentleman’s story is so incredibly important.
This guy deserves so much longer than just 30 minutes to rush through horrific stories being prompted to speed him up along the way. 🥴
A 3 hour Joe Rogan Experience format would be far better and even then I suspect we would barely scratch the surface of the stories this gentleman has to share.
Absolutely incredible man .❤
We stand with Holocaust survivors in Canada and all over the world. Mey Jehovah the god of Israel bless the Holocaust survivors we love you
Excellent book.
This is an interview worthy of chapters, not just one interview.
Please do another interview with this man, he has more to tell. What a period in time. Just remember there are still concentration camps today in China and people are still suffering like this.
Please give him more time. I would like to hear more.
Thank you for sharing sir.
How dare you rush this man's story I'm discussed
Yes!! Disgusted by the interviewer as well. Dude, drink less coffee and let the man talk!
@@user-gz7sh9iz5u NO no he was discusseddd
He looks more like 70 than 96, amazing given what he's been through.
What an honour to meet him.
Thank you for speaking out.
Thank you for sharing this man’s incredibly important message! I don’t understand the point of rushing him through his story, however. It unfortunately made the interview rather uncomfortable to watch, and was frustrating to him as well as to the audience, no doubt. Why not allow him to share his story, his way? He deserves the opportunity, and we could all benefit and better empathize from the additional information.
The moderator was cutting short the valueable information. Too bad. The essence that Mr. Josef had was subdued.
Thank you for sharing your experience I will never forget
96 years old?
For heavens sake, I would listen to this man's stories for hours, but the interviewer says he short on time. Maybe he should write a book.
@Peter B fu
As so many have commented it really is shameful how this man was rushed through the Interview "in the interests of time". This man is 96 years old, speaking in a 3rd or 4th language about first hand experience of one of the greatest human atrocities of all time in the midst of widespread rise in anti-semitism. He should have have been given all the time in the world to tell his story. Shameful.
We are all related
We all need love
Let him tell his whole story! What he has been through is worth the extra time, and the media company should recognize this and pay tribute to him. What he has to share can't be rushed through, so let him talk. He's one of the rare survivors. Think about it!
Josef is right...survivors are a dying breed. Those who like Josef, are still here to tell their story should be given all the time they need. Pity this interview was cut short.
If you guys want to do interviews on such sensitive subjects you should prepare and allow for more time. Because it was starting to come off extremely rude and I wasted to hear what this man had to say
Excellent to listen to a real person who experienced the horror of the conflict
It seems the majority of individuals who have made comments are critical maybe a revisit to this special person is worth looking into a good interviewer is a good listener maybe worth dealing with everyone s comments
Thank you Sir, for telling your story.
GOD BLESS you Josef your a brave man thanks for sharing your horrific story
Thank you for speaking
If anyone harmed me or my loved ones my mind couldn't rest until I found the perpetrator and 'dealt' with them.
This testimony is SO PRECIOUS not only for the jewish people but for all the world. Why don't you give this incredible man more time to speak ????
Never forget...this happened during my life time...Frightening.
Most people don't care and think its funny
I hope that soon Ukraine will bring their Russian tormentors to justice; so many horrific war crimes are being commited there, we can't even keep count.
In Sobibor, selected Ukranians were were killing the Jews alongside with the Criminal SS Germans. Never forget it.
The Ukrainians are equally to blame.
Thank you for telling your story... I love my Jewish friends. You gave and give so much. It's not allowed to be forgotten, despite the pain
Most amazing narrative!
How did the world allow Germany back into the human family.
Thank you Josef. for your testimony, I sorry you didn’t have a chance to tell the full story, God bless & protect you & your family🇦🇺🙏🍀💕

Someone needs to give this gentleman RESPECT AND TIME and interview him properly
it's a pity that the interviewer was so bad. how on earth did he get that job?
I was offended on, not only his behalf but for all those 6 million lives lost! Rushing him is saying “my narrative is more important than your experiences & passing on stories for learning from history” 😢
He prenounces the Polish places perfectly, unfortunately so tragic
Polish was one of his first languages. My Grandmother spoke 5 languages, Yiddish, Polish, Russian, Hebrew and English.
Thank you for remaining HUMAN when the world around you lost their humanity. You are still here. They are gone.
Josef I salute you. You marvellous, brave warrior. You are a true Sabra.
Why organise to do an interview then rush him through it and interrupt him every 2 minutes . Should be ASHAMED
I THANK YOU
Wow. Imagine all this man saw. Never forget what happened.
I have a story to tell.. My grandfather survived his Notzy concentration camp experience. Ted Bialkowski was used as a test subject for the Übermensch (Super Soldier) programming project. Fascinating testimony.
This interviewer deserves to be fired! Watching him rush this man and make him gloss over his entire story to get to the parts he deems “important “ is infuriating! This man deserves more respect and time to tell his story the way he wants to. Shame on you
