This is super weird but I legit teared up when he showed the days of the week streamed and then compared it to not streaming every day on his main. Just the putting it into perspective of how much happier he is not trying to cater to a specific fanbase and simply doing what he wants, hits me right in the feels. Really similar to what Felix did. I find it interesting that he has this self awareness, then shows immediate resistance to the idea of therapy and speaking to anyone else about how he feels. He brushes it off as "well I enjoy myself and it's only a problem when other people bring it up. When they bring it up, it stresses him out. That's something he work with someone on; managing the stress and response to other people when they overstep their boundaries. He can't control what they say or do, but he can work to make it less stressful for him. That being said, if he's resistant to therapy it's possible it's because of trauma. In that case, even if he went it may not be helpful. People who are resistant to therapy tend to write a self-fulfilling prophecy by making it difficult and frustrating for themselves, thus increasing their suffering and likelihood of ditching the therapy, chalking it up to a pointless endeavor, all because they were never willing to give it a chance to begin with. It'd be nice if that weren't the case, and people had more self-awareness about their own defense mechanisms and reflect on why they are resistant to a given good-faith suggestion.

Look no one is mad at Asmongold for doing what he is doing and we are glad he is happy. But it doesn’t mean that we can’t miss how things were. It’s like missing the old days when you could spend more time with the boys. We’re all happy for them that they have families and stuff and are taking care of business, but the old days with the boys will never be forgotten.

My very first video I ever watched with Zack was the video where his mom hits max level. Growing up in what seemed like a similar situation, I remember when my mom felt the same sense of accomplishment that he captured on that beautiful video.... the energy and good vibes that were in that classic video is the same reason I will always support Zack no matter which direction his content goes in, he's a super down to earth guy and he's funny as hell.
Zack has admitted that "Asmongold" is just him at 11/10 and it doesn't take much thought to realize that that can be super draining over long periods of time.
Times changes and hes moving along with it as we all should, besides, Asmon knows how to deliver to his audience, you can bet he's gunna milk out some nostalgic hype for a big stream when he wants to.

A friend of mine showed me the "Asmongold reacts to Asmongold's Lair" video over 6 months ago, and I was morbidly fascinated. Then CZcams started recommending Asmongold TV videos all the time and I slowly started watching them just because I honestly found him to be funny and cool and funnily enough, a nice dude. I don't watch Twitch at all. I've never seen him play a single moment of video games. But his enthusiasm for them is infectious and he's a fun goofball to listen to while I draw. Everything seems fine to me.
I remember a time in the supposedly *good* *old* *days* where he openly admitted on stream to have suicidal thoughts because of how stressful streaming was to him. I'm not going to pretend to know what's going on inside his head, but he certainly looks and sounds more relaxed ever since he began branching out with different content.
10:03 I feel like this is something that artists and performers have struggled with for a very long time after they achieve a certain level of fame. Artist does something that gets a lot of attention, they grow a fanbase, artist continues on a path that they try to forge for themselves, then some of the OG fans get upset because their expectations aren't met and they think the artist has sold out or changed for the worse or whatever.

Even as a small streamer I ran into this same problem many years ago. I caved into what the small minority of viewers wanted and it killed my channel honestly. Instead of doing what I wanted and what was making me successful, I caved into the few people who didn’t like what I was doing and making me happy.

I started watching Asmongold last year when the Johnny Depp v. Amber Heard trial was at the center of the internet's attention, stuck around afterwards since he seems to be a rather genuine individual who also brings occasional bits of wisdom to the table. This video is not about just WoW or Gaming. It took memorable moments and those are indeed a lot of WoW moment. Asmongold giving a show, having the intro music, talking with Mcconnell and being exited to host a event, show or competition. We as viewers being exited to wait for sunday for his Transmog Comp / Mount offs.. I liked WoW, FFXIV & react and even spinoff games like Stanley Parable. If you watch his Asmongold streams and his ZackRawrr streams you do see the difference.

as someone who just started watching asmond this passed year im more entertained by his topic discussions than his gaming because i agree with 90% of his view points and he actually makes me think about things a different way than i was thinking that i end up agreeing with. maybe thats because im watching youtube so their is no direct interaction like on streaming but i dont enjoy watching someone play games, i would rather play games. none of this matters though because he should feel comfortable doing what HE wants to do because its his life, his job and his hobbies. i feel like THIS is the golden age for asmong for ALOT of people.

You were a source of comfort and entertainment for me, Asmongold's channel. After I had started a new job, as a low-paid temp even though I was in my thirties, I would enjoy watching a rockstar hype up his audience without even showing his face yet, while I was on the train home, and then the Literal Mount God would appear. The guy who'd lived the dream of sitting around playing games and eating fast food, and won. I'd get off the train and walk home over the hill, listening to Asmon, Rich or Bellular complain incessantly about how bad BFA was. And how Blizzard should fix it. Then I'd arrive home. No idea if you will see this, I think what is missed has nothing to do with WoW. It is the community stuff, all the comps just happen to only happen with WoW. The one transmog FFXIV comp also felt the same, McConnell doesn't appear for a similar reason I think unless co op Souls. Transmog comps were genuinely hilarious and fun. Don't want to add to the pressure but I think this can be replicated.

Even if he was doing basically the same routine content, people would still find something else to be nostalgic about and wish it was "like the old days". People make fond and amazing memories and then the more and more they're exposed to it, the less new experiences and gratification they get. No matter what, Asmon's streams won't feel as fulfilling anymore to some long time viewers because they've basically seen everything, so it takes a lot more for them to be as entertained now as it did back then. WoW being at such a higher popularity in the past was part of that. A big part of why you see so many people who last long in the public eye get so much hate like "you're washed out, just retire" is because the longer that someone is relevant, the less and less exciting and new they are. Even if they still put out professional and strong content, unless they outdo their last, then people just get bored and find something else new and exciting to watch. People get bored if they stay the same and people get bored and offended if they change at all.
As some one who started watching during Johnny depp cases, and went back to watch his DS1 VOD(absolute banger) I can see how he's matured and is not always acting as stupid and cocky, I'd say this is good change.
The zackrawrr thing really changed something. When he had like 2k viewers on the 2nd channel that was some of the most pure and best zack we'd ever had. Now with 30k ppl there feels like zack is pretending to be the "asmon" persona like he was on main

He should do what makes him happy. Just my 2cents on what made the Only-WoW phase good for me. You always got the same thing, you knew if you turned in what would happen on stream. It made it perfect for me to put on the 2nd monitor while working and just listening like a podcast (a very very long one where each episode filled my whole work day). Occasionally something unique happened and you'd look over on 2nd monitor, chuckle, and go back to work or gaming. The current stream with different games and dedicated react segment (used to be sprinkled in whenever there was wait time) to get 100% out of the stream you have to watch it constantly. This resulted in me no longer being able to enjoy the streams live and i transitioned to a youtube viewer where i can just watch a dedicated .5 - 1 h video and can actually set aside time in my day to do that and wholly concentrate on the video. What I miss is not WoW (BfA) streams, "old Asmnongold", or whatever. What I miss is the streaming format that perfectly fit my unique way of watching his stream. Ofcause I dont expect anyone to change his stream style for one viewer. But maybe this is one piece of the puzzle on this topic. Not so much the actual stream people miss but the comfort of the known, McCool, Podcasty style that you could run in the background and still understand everything going on.
Also: I think we're all nostalgic and just remember the fun moments and memes (mailmuncher anyone) and all the art that came from it and forget about the lulls of watching him wait 30 minutes for a respawn to kill in one sec and hope for a .1% mount (on 10 different characters in a row). Also also: Yeah... EU unfriendly times bad! :(

Hey, I totally feel you on that subject. Been living my life for others for a very long while now too - taking on jobs to satisfy those in my near proximity so they needn't worry and think it was the right thing to do. Just recently have I started considering doing something for me. Take on a job / hobby I want to do, away from what might otherwise be "reasonable". Truthfully, that is the most reasonable thing anyone can do. People consider the safest route of survival to be the better choice but fail to realize that going down a road that revolves around inner agony makes life as it is... pointless. You've put yourself in a magnificent position where you can choose to do whatever you please, and you should follow that path. Keep in mind though, however painful it might be, those closest to you will never quite understand your inner turmoil unless they live it themselves. It is just the way it goes and while it is easier said then done, look beyond it.
Asmon should consider reading more about personas. We are different to our parents than to our friends than to our spouse than to our colleagues etc etc etc. they each get a different version of us. Asmon is a version of Zach that stresses him out and he doesn’t want to force it anymore.
the early fans say BFA was the golden age lmao. His WoD streams with mcconnel and sometimes guest star alexsensual back then were absolutely golden and up there with some of the best streaming content I've ever seen.
I wholeheartedly feel you on this, and you are 100% doing the best thing for yourself and your mental health, and you know it. It's sad you have to explain it to fans and viewers like this. people don't understand how draining it could be trying to please EVERYBODY, and meet all demands - its essentially impossible. I never played WOW a day in my life but enjoyed watching your mount offs because they were hilarious and great content, but I also love watching everything else, from reacts to variety games. You are better than a one trick streamer and provide some of the best content out there.

Finally someone that understands. When things stop being fun there is no reason to do it. If someone wants to pay me to make art my body shuts down and I can not. If that same person said they liked something I drew I would finish the piece of art and send it to them for free. But the feeling of being forced to do something, even if you were going to do it, takes all life out of wanting to do it and in the end I will not. Keep being true to you. In all honesty, the old wow streams would have been as shit as they are now if McConnell wasn't there. If McConnell was in the streams again, it would change the dynamic. How they played off each other really made the streams amazing. Now it's just Asmon which is hard but when the stream is missing such a dynamic you can really tell how lacking his content is on his own. There's people who enjoy his content still which is great but for me it's boring. He sits in Stormwind jumping around on his mount, camera off, sounds fucking miserable, does a mythic and logs off to do react content for a few hours then play another game. That's not good content to me.

I've been watching Asmon since 2018 and tbh, I really dont want this Type of streams to return because he changed a lot as a person and content creator. sometimes i watch Cat Dany's videos to reminisce wow times and thats all because im Eu Andy and cant fit my free time in stream schedule :(. I honestly haven't enjoyed his content until now. He seems happier. He seems less stressed. I'm glad that this is the case. I completely enjoy his streams, his channel content, and everything in between. While I do enjoy WoW, I come here to watch Asmon. Asmon is the entertainment not the specific game he's playing.
It's sad to hear his close friends and family are pushing him to do streams he doesn't want outside of the fun intros I can't tell the difference.. I'm just happy he's online daily

My very first video I ever watched with Zack was the video where his mom hits max level.
Growing up in what seemed like a similar situation, I remember when my mom felt the same sense of accomplishment that he captured on that beautiful video....
the energy and good vibes that were in that classic video is the same reason I will always support Zack no matter which direction his content goes in, he's a super down to earth guy and he's funny as hell.
Zack has admitted that "Asmongold" is just him at 11/10 and it doesn't take much thought to realize that that can be super draining over long periods of time.
Times changes and hes moving along with it as we all should, besides, Asmon knows how to deliver to his audience, you can bet he's gunna milk out some nostalgic hype for a big stream when he wants to.

A friend of mine showed me the "Asmongold reacts to Asmongold's Lair" video over 6 months ago, and I was morbidly fascinated. Then CZcams started recommending Asmongold TV videos all the time and I slowly started watching them just because I honestly found him to be funny and cool and funnily enough, a nice dude. I don't watch Twitch at all. I've never seen him play a single moment of video games. But his enthusiasm for them is infectious and he's a fun goofball to listen to while I draw.
Everything seems fine to me.
Right? I don't watch a lot of his gaming content, but he's just a nice guy and has some very smart things to say while also being able to goof around

I remember a time in the supposedly *good* *old* *days* where he openly admitted on stream to have suicidal thoughts because of how stressful streaming was to him. I'm not going to pretend to know what's going on inside his head, but he certainly looks and sounds more relaxed ever since he began branching out with different content.
10:03 I feel like this is something that artists and performers have struggled with for a very long time after they achieve a certain level of fame. Artist does something that gets a lot of attention, they grow a fanbase, artist continues on a path that they try to forge for themselves, then some of the OG fans get upset because their expectations aren't met and they think the artist has sold out or changed for the worse or whatever.

Even as a small streamer I ran into this same problem many years ago. I caved into what the small minority of viewers wanted and it killed my channel honestly. Instead of doing what I wanted and what was making me successful, I caved into the few people who didn’t like what I was doing and making me happy.

I started watching Asmongold last year when the Johnny Depp v. Amber Heard trial was at the center of the internet's attention, stuck around afterwards since he seems to be a rather genuine individual who also brings occasional bits of wisdom to the table. as someone who just started watching asmond this passed year im more entertained by his topic discussions than his gaming because i agree with 90% of his view points and he actually makes me think about things a different way than i was thinking that i end up agreeing with. maybe thats because im watching youtube so their is no direct interaction like on streaming but i dont enjoy watching someone play games, i would rather play games. none of this matters though because he should feel comfortable doing what HE wants to do because its his life, his job and his hobbies. i feel like THIS is the golden age for asmong for ALOT of people.

After I had started a new job, as a low-paid temp even though I was in my thirties, I would enjoy watching a rockstar hype up his audience without even showing his face yet, while I was on the train home, and then the Literal Mount God would appear. The guy who'd lived the dream of sitting around playing games and eating fast food, and won. I'd get off the train and walk home over the hill, listening to Asmon, Rich or Bellular complain incessantly about how bad BFA was. And how Blizzard should fix it. Then I'd arrive home. My problem with Zackrawr is, he has no schedule, no Im live tweets and it has very low energy streams even no cam sometimes.
No idea if you will see this, I think what is missed has nothing to do with WoW. It is the community stuff, all the comps just happen to only happen with WoW. The one transmog FFXIV comp also felt the same, McConnell doesn't appear for a similar reason I think unless co op Souls.
Transmog comps were genuinely hilarious and fun. Don't want to add to the pressure but I think this can be replicated.
I understand the frustration of genshin fellows, he said u ll play it over a year ago, they watched him play every random game there is all that time while he teased genshin patch update reacts and never played it in particular

Life is short, Zack. Don't worry about what others want of you. Find happiness now, and enjoy your life as you want. People will support you. Your happiness should be all that matters now that you have success.
Even if he was doing basically the same routine content, people would still find something else to be nostalgic about and wish it was "like the old days". People make fond and amazing memories and then the more and more they're exposed to it, the less new experiences and gratification they get. No matter what, Asmon's streams won't feel as fulfilling anymore to some long time viewers because they've basically seen everything, so it takes a lot more for them to be as entertained now as it did back then. WoW being at such a higher popularity in the past was part of that. A big part of why you see so many people who last long in the public eye get so much hate like "you're washed out, just retire" is because the longer that someone is relevant, the less and less exciting and new they are. Even if they still put out professional and strong content, unless they outdo their last, then people just get bored and find something else new and exciting to watch. People get bored if they stay the same and people get bored and offended if they change at all.
As some one who started watching during Johnny depp cases, and went back to watch his DS1 VOD(absolute banger) I can see how he's matured and is not always acting as stupid and cocky, I'd say this is good change.
Though it is sad that Asmong died, I will continue to support his twin brother Zackrawrr. Asmold will forever live in our hearts.

The zackrawrr thing really changed something. When he had like 2k viewers on the 2nd channel that was some of the most pure and best zack we'd ever had. Now with 30k ppl there feels like zack is pretending to be the "asmon" persona like he was on main
Handling the expectations of others is a tough thing. It doesn't feel right to just disregard things people say who are important to you, but that is exactly what you have to do sometimes. You know you best so you best be you.

Just my 2cents on what made the Only-WoW phase good for me. You always got the same thing, you knew if you turned in what would happen on stream. It made it perfect for me to put on the 2nd monitor while working and just listening like a podcast (a very very long one where each episode filled my whole work day). Occasionally something unique happened and you'd look over on 2nd monitor, chuckle, and go back to work or gaming.
The current stream with different games and dedicated react segment (used to be sprinkled in whenever there was wait time) to get 100% out of the stream you have to watch it constantly.
This resulted in me no longer being able to enjoy the streams live and i transitioned to a youtube viewer where i can just watch a dedicated .5 - 1 h video and can actually set aside time in my day to do that and wholly concentrate on the video.
What I miss is not WoW (BfA) streams, "old Asmnongold", or whatever. What I miss is the streaming format that perfectly fit my unique way of watching his stream.
Ofcause I dont expect anyone to change his stream style for one viewer. But maybe this is one piece of the puzzle on this topic. Not so much the actual stream people miss but the comfort of the known, McCool, Podcasty style that you could run in the background and still understand everything going on.
Also: I think we're all nostalgic and just remember the fun moments and memes (mailmuncher anyone) and all the art that came from it and forget about the lulls of watching him wait 30 minutes for a respawn to kill in one sec and hope for a .1% mount (on 10 different characters in a row).

Hey, I totally feel you on that subject. Been living my life for others for a very long while now too - taking on jobs to satisfy those in my near proximity so they needn't worry and think it was the right thing to do. Just recently have I started considering doing something for me. Take on a job / hobby I want to do, away from what might otherwise be "reasonable". Truthfully, that is the most reasonable thing anyone can do. People consider the safest route of survival to be the better choice but fail to realize that going down a road that revolves around inner agony makes life as it is... pointless. You've put yourself in a magnificent position where you can choose to do whatever you please, and you should follow that path. Keep in mind though, however painful it might be, those closest to you will never quite understand your inner turmoil unless they live it themselves. It is just the way it goes and while it is easier said then done, look beyond it.

It's sad you have to explain it to fans and viewers like this. people don't understand how draining it could be trying to please EVERYBODY, and meet all demands - its essentially impossible. I never played WOW a day in my life but enjoyed watching your mount offs because they were hilarious and great content, but I also love watching everything else, from reacts to variety games. You are better than a one trick streamer and provide some of the best content out there.

Finally someone that understands. When things stop being fun there is no reason to do it. If someone wants to pay me to make art my body shuts down and I can not. If that same person said they liked something I drew I would finish the piece of art and send it to them for free. But the feeling of being forced to do something, even if you were going to do it, takes all life out of wanting to do it and in the end I will not. Keep being true to you. In all honesty, the old wow streams would have been as shit as they are now if McConnell wasn't there. If McConnell was in the streams again, it would change the dynamic. How they played off each other really made the streams amazing.
Now it's just Asmon which is hard but when the stream is missing such a dynamic you can really tell how lacking his content is on his own. There's people who enjoy his content still which is great but for me it's boring. He sits in Stormwind jumping around on his mount, camera off, sounds fucking miserable, does a mythic and logs off to do react content for a few hours then play another game. That's not good content to me.

I honestly haven't enjoyed his content until now. He seems happier. He seems less stressed. I'm glad that this is the case. I completely enjoy his streams, his channel content, and everything in between. While I do enjoy WoW, I come here to watch Asmon. Asmon is the entertainment not the specific game he's playing.
