@@Souloux Yeah I didn't play card games, and I get it that 1k may seem like nothing if you have a lot of money, but "realistically", 1k can buy you a TV, a console and multiple games to play or a decent gaming PC, so spending it on a game is actually insane and "should" be a luxury, something like a rolex or a sports car IRL, but in some online games, it's not such a "luxury" to spend so much money, some games "expect" you to waste that kind of money for a couple stats upgrades, gems, gacha/loot boxes, runes or whatever, and makes you a "pleb" if you don't spend that kind of money for in-game "upgrades".
A guy spent 40k on BDO in a few hours to enhance his gear years ago before Blackstar was a thing... He failed over and over and raged. After he failed everything the servers suffered cause he paid a DDOS service in china to try to take down BDO servers in NA

my favorite about about these grindy endgame things is once you get em you quickly realize you were never supposed to get them because trying to get them is the only actual content. Its like climbing a mountain for the view and when you get up its dense fog with 6 inches of visibility.

It sounds stupid but that tiny delay is an incredibly powerful gambling/addiction loop tool. If you're not paying attention and just in that spin spin spin mode, that tiny delay tricks the dumbest part of your brain into thinking you were closer to winning that time than the last one with no delay.
Makes me wonder why no one uses the skip animation check box. I mean, its right there! Just click it!
The delay is different every time because the client is waiting for an answer from the server. But you are right, even a fixed delay makes it more addictive. It's the same with slot machines, where the wheels come to a stop with a delay

@@erossenpai2884 It isnt, really. The whole clothes system is made for it, people buy them in the market to get cron stones, you change yours to get cron stones, every end game player does this. Reason being, cause they arent actually rare at all, they give them all the time and you can even buy them in the market for the game coin (Not the paid coin, the farmeable coin)
I never spent a cent on BDO, and it got to a point where i just hoard so many clothes that, if it werent because im not into enhancing and rather buy it directly from market, i would need them to turn them into crons cause there was no more use for them (Or sell them on market for silver, which, i did, multiple times). All my characters had clothes and copies of such clothes, they were just a waste of inventory or chest slots.
Before I quit BDO. My fist pen item not even the black star was 68 times and each time it felt awful that when I got the pen item I felt numb and not even satisfied. That was then I realized that I no longer wanted to play because of how unobtainable max gear was to poor people.

That "Delay" is the animation trigger calculating an RNG counter. Forcing the server to read the item, it will ALWAYS fail during that process. ArcheAge has literally the same exact script.

Call me stupid, but I snapped myself out of playing Destiny 2, after two weeks of nickle and diming purchases, by maxing out the battle pass. It took away my reason to play the game and made me realize how much money I just spent on a video game that I'm not enjoying. Haven't paid for any new video games since then, and I will watch streamers play new games before I choose to buy them.

Yo. I quit Destiny 2 too more because the loop wasn't fun and didn't really enjoy the people on there. I got the Xbox Game Pass for PC and since it's got regional pricing, it's pretty worth it for me. Just a thought. Gaming is lower in my priority list now honestly.

everyone who played the orignal Ragnarok Online back in the early 2000's knows the struggle to even get a +10 anything,
oh yeah and when you include the card farming with 0.03% chance. (for people who don't know, cards in this game are like gems you socket in your weapons/armor to make them very powerful) imagine theres 1 of each boss in the game and thousands of people are contesting them and the bis loot is not even 0.1 but 0.01 chance to get. yeah when you thought you played grindy games kids, you haven't seen shit.
but yeah upgrading in ragnarok was a bit sick and twisted when not only can your gear downgrade but it could also get destroyed during a fail attempt and there was no safeguards.

Ijust started watching but i heard bdo and money and after a few years of playing the game i realized how much money i was spending vs how much fun i was having and realized it wasn't worth it anymore. I was more of a lifeskiller an even lvling that gear was a pain. Not to mention at the time there was some gear that if it broke lvling you'd just lose it. The game has the “fix it with money“ thing.
There was also your character would get to heavy if you had to much on hand (at one point silver [in game money]) also counted).
There was limited backpack space.
Horses also had something similar with lvling.
I remember at the time also someone took 3to4 months to get from 64 to 65
Oh pets had the issue where if you wanted to lvl a pet up you would need one of the same teir and there were about 4 teirs i think. And to change what the pet did also had to spend money.
The nicest furniture had sets for $100 and that was for part of the set i think.
The main things i miss is how open the world is the grapics, character outfit/body customization, and surprisingly sailing also my friends that i kind of slowly stopped chatting with often.
This is actually sad that video games have turned into this and there is nothing we can do about it bc their will always be ppl who are willing to pay 😞

Thats why people that don't spend money on the game tell you to buy your upgrades. You don't get that rush of finally getting it, but you literally never have to suffer like this regardless if you spent 30hours grinding or swiping.
It's difficult for people not to throw their silver away though and take a punt at getting lucky. Ive been there myself in this game. I struggle to save up even like 20 billion without spunking up the wall. But I've had time where I've tapped stuff on a 5% chance in 1-5 tries and I've had times like recently where I cant get a TET accessory on a 30% chance after 6 attempt. Or even failing 5 x 50% chsnces in a row. I never gamble IRL, but somehow it just doesn't really feel real doing it with currency obtained in game so I dont care. It is disheartening though and im currently on an extended break from the game because ive failed a certain TET accesory multiple times.
U should probably just not come back at all if failing a couple tets caused you to take a break. It'll only get worse

In that game enhancing your weapon and failing had a possibility of destroying the weapon completely, and these weapons would take weeks or months of raid drops to craft. In a way typical character gachas these days like the Genshin Honkai series and Nikke are much more forgiving with your money.

@@Kramway99 well I have 5800 hours in the game. A lot of those are probably AFK, but still a lot of time. I don't regret that time. I have a lot of good memories from the game. But the gear upgrade system really late into the game is so fucking garbage and toxic. I quit over it.

This kind of upgrading was pretty much how it was back in 2007-08 in a MMO game called Risk Your Life. Great game, which is still playable. Not quite as ridiculous, but pretty much just as painfull.

i built a 282 stack from 140 just trying to get from TRI->TET Blackstar lmao. Failed like 50 times in a row. Used a new stack, popped at 120fs. Crazy stuff

Not true anymore. Now you can start seasonal-get the gear you need in less than a day and be able to do MOST END GAME PVP. Most of bdo content now is capped content with low end gear reqs there are only a few spots that arent capped and they give the same rewards. Honestly it's a great game now, Kanon was just proving the point in this video that Asmongold missed that the game isnt really p2w anymore. It just gives you a small chance to speed up the process with gear that you really dont need anymore.

They really should add a small amount of increase each failure. Like .05% increase or something so eventually you could get it. It would also make people feel like they get something and then spend more.

the chance does increase with failure but he was using "cron stones" which was what prevented the gear from downgrading every time he lost which disables the ability for the chance to increase. Basically you either downgrade the gear but increase chance of winning next time or keep trying over and over at the same chance with cron stones like he did

As someone else said, the chance does increase upon failure typically, but the gear will also downgrade a rank. He was using the little blue orbs (cron stones) that add an additional cost onto each click, but prevent it from downgrading or increasing the enhancement chance with each attempt. Typically the "meta" is to intentionally fail using other gear pieces to build your enhancement chance up really high before you use Cron Stones with the actual attempt. He's using a +185 stack (3.9%), but most people will use around a +240, which is just under 6% odds of success. So not only is he not really properly "prepared," he's missing out on 50% increased odds when he decided to spend $1000. On average it should take 26 attempts for him to succeed, so most people just buy gear pre-enhanced.
It does, he was using crons, when you use crons you don't downgrade but you don't increase your chance. The whole method of enhancing in BDO efficiently is to have multiple "failstacks" (the number that indicates what the success chance is) rolling at once. So in this video for example, he had a 185. If he wanted to do it efficiently, he honestly wouldn't use crons for the BiS click, he'd use it after the downgrade. So every attempt at BiS would increase the 185 higher, so every click would get a better chance. Have a second stack + crons to get it back to the attempt. It's confusing when looking in from the outside but once you understand the mechanics it actually is pretty easy.
The delay is psychological, it makes you think that you almost got it. We may not like it but it works.
All of it reminds me how painfull it was that i needed 29 Pen Trys on a 315 Failstack and a couple houndred to get the weapon back to Tet up and down again. But the Failstack he used really was way too low.

Yup, I add them to my list of companies i avoid like a plague. A game can only focus on so many things. When such a high demand for p2w is placed on a game; it subtracts from other elements that could have used it. If they focused more time on making a good game they could sell copies and make money that way. Instead they use this pathetic p2w model.

That's actually the most stupid way to upgrade your gear by using crones, it was 2019 or so , I was in a guild that had a whale that spends 100+k euros on the game and he actually came to conclusion that dinging with crones is 3 times less profitable than dinging with silver. They recently claimed that there was a "bug" with functional pearl items in the central market and removed all of them "temporarily", which was around 45 days ago. So no more buying premium time(value pack, kama buff, old moon buff) for F2P players, and no more horse flute.

Actually a fun game you can enjoy, this is all just extra imo. Some people play like this but not many. I got the same thing he is trying for first try and didn’t use cron stones. That’s very endgame play if your looking to do some high end pvp that’s about it
The game is still good. Merely following the story outfits 1 of your character with Pen gear and Tet accessoires i believe. (now that they have the season thing going every 2 month). What you see here is the pinnacle of the endgame in terms of optimizing stats
Getting money in this game is stupid easy so him spending this much money is completely unnecessary.
You can get everything the game has to offer in due time by just playing, grinding, saving up. It's not a game you play and just gamba or just swipe away to get everything. The option is there to speed things up, but most of the mtx are pay for convenience. You have the choice to upgrade your gear yourself which is heavily RNG based, or just play and grind for the money in game to buy said gear to save you time and sanity. Certain grind spots yield 100s of millions/per hour. Do that an hour or two daily, save up, put up an offer for said gear.
Of course doing things yourself from scratch gives you more sense of accomplishment and dopamine but this game has one of the worse RNG ever. You have the choice.
These kinds of games can still be fun if you completely ignore the PvP or any sort of competitive features(Basically playing it as a coop game).
We shouldnt forget that he just could have selled the outfits and would have had a 100% chance to get the item hahahahha
Some games account for this to happen, so they reward you the item you want after a set number of fails.

this game taught me not to gamble. I used to always grind to tap my gear but at some point I stopped, threw all my silver into gold bars that i put in some storage in the desert and then grinded until i could just buy the gear. I got so much faster growth since then compared to when i gambled my silver away (never whaled, only spent money on the needed QoL so like 60€)
its honestly insane that we let game companies get away with this. Pay to win shit just shouldnt be allowed out right but to spend $1,000 and not get that one item just shouldnt be a thing. There should eventually be a 100% chance after so many fails whether youre P2W or F2P, fail 10 times and your chance goes right to 100% when its this expensive to try. It only punishes f2p

I dont see a problem, every game has the topend gear locked behind the largest grind. If a game is good enough to keep you consistently playing then theres no issue am i wrong? I have quit bdo multiple times but this time i came back about 3 months ago and went from under tuvala gearscore so like 542 or so, and im at 678 now, about 250+ bill in gains in 3 months of play while working 10 hours a day 5-6 days a week id say bdo is very generous with progression for literally 90% of the game.

We all know the Kanon did it for content, no one would use such a low fali stack for PEN Black Star. Asmongold did the same thing many times before.
And I have advice for you - always buy your gear, enhance it only if you have enough free stuff.
The game is still amazing and fun if you enjoy it as a whole, going at your own pace, seeing where you can get and don't care about the meta end-game. A friend gifted me the game and In 3 years, 5000h+, I only spent 100$, got my tent and other permanent familial stuff that I can't ever lose. You don't have to pay to have fun, the game is huge. And , as you can see, the game costs so much to actually p2w that its basically not worth spending that much money on it. So just don't. That's it. Videos like this are entertaining for sure but don't make the game less worthwhile if you want to lose yourself in a big epic adventure. Just seeing Vell for the first time was worth a thousand bucks. I'm a gamer. I game to game., not to min-max everything.
