Any idea what they will do for Part 61/91 pilots who also have Part 107? I initially received Part 107 but then continued and became a GA pilot. I’ve already used my check ride as my last recurrent for Part 107. Curious if they will allow GA pilots who also have 107 to use their training on the manned aircraft side as the required night training.

Update after reading the rule: "Only remote pilots who complete an updated aeronautical knowledge test or updated training will meet the remote pilot qualification requirements to act as pilot in command of a small UAS at night. As with all persons who received their remote pilot certificate prior to the enactment of this rule, part 61 pilots previously holding a remote pilot certificate will also need to complete the updated training before acting as pilot in command of a small UAS at night."

Okay, so I took and passed my 107 in May of 2020. If I want to photograph the moon over a mountain at night, do I apply for a daytime waiver, or have to take the whole test again? BTW, I recently fumbled on to your site, don't know how, but I am glad I did.

Thanks, Jason! I'm most excited about this announcement I think. I never understood why us 107 pilots had to apply for a waiver when a hobbies could just slap a few lights on their drone and be good to go.

If we’d like a daylight waiver somewhat sooner, we should go through the waiver application or do you recommend waiting for you guys to get the training up? I guess I’m asking, will the training be available and substitutable for the waiver sooner than 18 months? Does the waiver process take long enough that it would be better to just wait? Thank you Jason! You guys have really made my UAV piloting possible!

I’ve the same question as well! Since I just got my 107 in 2020, I’ve a way to go before recurrent is due. I do hope there’s an interim solution.. cheers!

Was just reading through the final rule. Hope this helps: "After the effective date of this rule, remote pilots operating under a waiver received prior to the effective date will be allowed to continue to operate at night under the provisions of that waiver without meeting the updated recurrent training requirement for a period of 60 days. All night waivers issued prior to the effective date of this rule that authorize deviation from § 107.29 Daylight Operation terminate on [INSERT DATE 120 DAYS AFTER DATE OF PUBLICATION IN THE FEDERAL REGISTER]. This date provides time for waiver holders to come into compliance with this rule and allow the holder to request a new certificate of waiver, if applicable, prior to the termination date."

Where do you find the Remote ID Modules for your drones?

These aren't available yet, as those rules don't go into effect for 18-30 months. I use DJI drones and hope they have a firmware update, but if not will be looking around just like you for some kind of "add-on" module!

Hey Jason! I have my Daylight Waiver. When you say in 18-30 months, we’ll be able to be hired for night work, did you mean something more than what I’ve already been getting hired for?

If I get my part 107 in 2021, will I fall into the new rules on recertification or will I have to take the “night module” of the training and re take the 60 question exam again. Thanks

Edited: Was just reading the full rule, it sounds like the training should be available very soon. If you get your P107 before though, you only need to get the new training to operate at night: "Applicants who are eligible to obtain a remote pilot certificate must complete an updated knowledge test prior to conducting operations at night. This rule also requires existing holders of a part 107 remote pilot certificate to complete updated training prior to operating as a remote pilot at night."
